First of all employees should be changing their gloves in between tasks and washing their hands and then putting on a fresh pair when doing the next task, these people straight out, go from this to that without washing their hands and think that wearing gloves makes it OK as they dig in the food with their dirty gloves to serve to you. I'm sure this is a health violation. You can't do it in the hospital between patients or in a laboratory contaminating everything. Why can they do it between stations in a deli? Super dangerous kitchen hygiene. Then there's the almost 9 dollar sandwich with two slices of meat doesn't even look like the picture not even close. It's a joke. All of that to only get up to the cash register in the aisles because they won't ring you up at the deli, where you have people who hate their job and and act like it by not even saying hello when you enter their line to do business, just a blank robotic stare as they scan items, completely despicable, greeting people is part of your job it is also part of common courtesy in the service industry since time began and they can't get that right. Now that Albertson's has bought Safeway, the whole store has become a most undesirable place to shop. So I don't, but I have continued to use the pharmacy for a single reason. The assistant, Heather, is the only one who knows how to deal with people and how to get things done. One assistant wears a red cap indoors and treats people with zero skills. The old pharmacist has been helpful one time out of many. If Heather leaves, so do I. Managers are frequently on break when needed and let you know that you can just wait. Buying meat at Safeway is prohibited in my household. The store feels unclean. I remember when Safeway was a respected store. Those days are gone. And so is my business. read more

A major problem with this Safeway is the customer service. There are a few that are genuinely nice but before that everyone is quite rude.

I'm hoping the managers see this "review" (message). Your employees need some major training in customer service! I shouldn't be the one saying, "Hi, how are you doing?" and then they say, "Hi. Fine." And I shouldn't be the one to say, "Thanks! Have a good night." They don't reply because they're on to the next customer. Other than this, I love this store! Stopped in for quickie take out lunch of fried chicken thighs and a container of macaroni salad. Yeah, I know - a pretty sketchy proposition at best when there are so many good places to eat in town. I was in a big hurry, had lots of errands to run. I had to gobble and go. No time for a real sit down meal at a respectable place. The store is a typical Safeway. If I blindfolded you for 4 hours, drove you around in a car to confuse you then took you inside the middle of a Safeway and then removed the blindfold you would never successfully guess in what town you were standing. How any Yelp reviewer can complain that one particular Safeway is better than another seems unfathomable to me. Anyway back to my hurried lunch... The fried chicken was warm. It was crunchy on the outside and extremely oily. Took 9 napkins to clean my fingers before I'd touch the steering wheel in my car. Macaroni salad was gloppy. Yep, a meal from the Safeway deli department. Buuuuuurrrrrrrppppp! 4 hours later as I write this I don't feel sick, just unhealthy. Next time I'll just eat the pre-packaged sushi. read more

Glad to see Safeway wasn't too far away from where we are on vacation here in Healdsburg. Very nice store and the cashier was very pleasant. I asked him if he was ready for all of this because we had a basket full of groceries. We did the shopping for an entire week for 8 people. Lol. So you know that included lots of booze. If I could give a zero I would.... They are awful, rude, almost took my license away. I shopped here 10 plus times before,they pulled this..... I am a traveling nurse and I am 26 years old and they denied me buying food or alcohol because my Arizona license doesn't expire in 50 years they didn't believe the facts, and were the rudest EVER about it. Stopped by to pick up a yummy signature sandwich. The first guy that helped me pawned me off to a trainee who kept going back to the back to ask for help was being ignored. When he finally did get another deli employee to answer him she comments well .....is suppose to be training you and gives him the cold shoulder, ouch. The whole time I'm thinking, great what kind of sandwich am I going to get. Now the guy yells out "this guy is going to be waiting at least a half hour if someone doesn't come show me how to make the sandwich. Head checker is standing near by and says where is... The first guy to help me. I am thinking great a sup visor will straighten this childish squabble. Wrong! He just starts BSing with the deli guy that pawned me off at the beginning. Finally after the trainee makes enough stink about not being able to make the sandwich the deli employee who gave the trainee the cold shoulder the first time comes over and walks him through making the sandwich. I can't believe how a single one of them could have received a job in a nice market and keep it. Just an FYI management and current staff, there are a lot of people unemployed who are ready to come in and actually help a customer wanting to spend some money. read more

I am so pleased with our local Safeway! They have the best Produce Dept , and have expanded it to include so very many organic vegetables and fruits. The Deli has such a variety of wonderful cheeses and meats, and delicious "made on the spot" sandwiches. There is a special glass case filled with top quality choices of meat and fish, in the Meat Dept., and butcher prepared chicken and beef recipes to pop right on the BBQ or in the oven. They also have a Manager's Special area where one can find 30% off bargains on certain meat cuts! I particularly appreciate the convenience of the Pharmacy, and their kind and efficient Staff. Justin, the Pharmacist, is especially helpful and knowledgeable. Most times I call in my prescription, but sometimes I order it there when I first enter the store, and then shop while it is being prepared. I feel perfectly safe in the Healdsburg Safeway during the Covid, as the cheerful and respectful Staff and Manager follow the virus Protocol to a tee, and expect the shoppers to do so as well,..... and we gratefully do. Overall this good really good store this is not a complaint about Safeway itself this is a complaint about their deli department. Every single time I go into the deli department I'm always standing there for a long time waiting.. no one is there to say hello no smiles . Also every time I get a sandwich it seems like every person that is behind the counter can't seem to understand how to make a simple sandwich is it really that hard..have you never made one in your life before. safeway is a few blocks away from downtown healdsburg and many eateries here offer cheap eats, (subway, chinese buffet...) sandwich review only: with a regular burrito in the 6.50 range in healdsburg, i just grabbed a pastrami & swiss cheese panini (5.49) at safeway. it wasn't that great but meatier than a pannii i had at raleys maybe more dijon mustard would have helped. if you have a safeway club card, buy 7 sandwiches, get 8th sandwich free. very friendly, courtous and relatively fast service. read more

Having been married to a Safeway employee previously, I have heard all of the good days, the bad days, the wins and the horror stories. But I can honestly say that over the course of the last two weeks, I have been pleasantly surprised and thoroughly impressed with 2 individuals on 2 different trips to the Healdsburg Safeway. Aaron, the Assistant Store Manager leads his troops in to daily grocery battles on the front line! He is in the trenches with his team and has the best attitude I have encountered at any Safeway in some time!! I tip my cap to his leadership abilities! And then there is Janie- she was just a delight!! So attentive, so kind, so genuinely sweet to my Fiancee' and I that it was quite refreshing to where we both were taken back by her customer service! We invited both of them to come in for a free wine tasting at Alexander Valley Vineyards so we could pay it forward and return the quality customer service experience we got from them!! The main reason why this store is so bad is the store manager who I won't name (Guerin) *cough cough* This guy was a district manager who obviously couldn't do his job right so they made him just be a store manager. I have shopped at numerous Safeway stores with no problems but ever time I shop here my blood pressure rises! Worst grocery store ever! Usually out of 1 or 2 things and so hard to find things! Not nearly enough employees never anyone to help! Prices are wrong often! I went this afternoon and it took me nearly 2 hours to buy 12 items! My cashier was rude and refused to do my refund and the women in front of me had recently had a hip redone asked for help out and he didn't check just said NO! Store isn't great and their prices are getting too high compared to other stores. The homeless around the store are dangerous and they do nothing from what I can see to get them out of there. There were several times my wife had to leave her groceries, get in her car and get out because of weird people following her in the store or harassing her. The deli is not good either, watch what you eat. read more

I came by this Safeway to grab some quick things as I was driving through after a day on the river last weekend. The guys wanted "Steak and Beer!!" I noticed two things right away. The steak selection was meager and the deals that the Safeway on Mendo advertised didn't seem to apply here. Not finding any cuts of the steak I wanted and noticing outrageously higher prices, I opted to drive back into my home town. Spending this much more up north made me realize it just wasn't worth saving the 20 minutes. I don't get why they have to be so much more expensive ... I mean I understand it's Healdsburg and all but come on. The selection really really could be a lot better. I'll still shop here in the future but not if I have a particular list in my head. Only if I need a quick stop on my way to somewhere else. And if I can't find anywhere else better. read more

Most Safeway employees have to work one or two other jobs to make ends meet, im sorry for the people who have the hard life of living in Headsburg have a bad customer experience. About dogs in the store honestly calm down did you die? Safeway isnt going to kick people out for having a dog, I've brought my dog into Safeway and Walgreens so many times and the employees aren't paid enough to care. If you've read any of my Safeway reviews, you will see I never really have any positive experiences at my local Safeways. But this is like the most fabulous Safeways around. All of the shelves are fully stocked. Not an empty slot anywhere. They ofcourse carry a few things that my local Safeway doesn't have. Pepsi has something called Manzanita Sol which is an apple flavored soda. Kinda like apple cider. I love anything apple or pear flavored so I had to try this. I bought a case and we finished it the next day. I came back the next day and bought the other 3 cases they had on their shelf. Upon checkout, the soda wasn't ringing up in their system. A supervisor (I didn't look for his nametag) went to look on the shelf for a price tag. He didn't find one and gave me the current Coke promo which was buy 2 get 1 free. What an awesome guy. Thank you Mr. Awesome if you're reading this. Everyone was so helpful and friendly here. Makes your shopping experience here so much happier. Well for me anyways. This totally beats the customer service we have here at home. Yay to Healdsburg Safeway and boo to San Francisco Safeways. read more

Can you please explain why stores install 5 times as many checkout lanes which are mostly closed all the time? This store is always ok, not always, perhaps around 10 at night always backed up with the fewest amount of check stand open. You can't use the self checkout because they don't allow you to buy a 6 pack of beer or bottle of wine with those, and besides half of them or broken or closed for some reason. They use to have the 16 items or less check stands manned but no longer, I cannot stand very long due to a back issue, so having to be number 5 in line is not pleasant. They use to look and see if a check stand needed opening but they no longer do that either. So, aside from the high prices for basic stuff, this store is a real disappointment from how it use to be about 5 years ago when the service was decent. Now I try and do most of my shopping at other stores. The other store in town is a real rip off, so welcome to Healdsburg. read more

This store is a huge disappointment. From it's constant understaffing to terrible customer service, particularly by managers. Not only have the hours changed...they're always understaffed with only two registers open and lines backed up half way through the aisle... self check out stands are always closed and the few that are open seem to require a clerks assistance and not to mention always having a line full of frustrated customers. Their employee bulletin board by the Redbox stand frequently has employee names with letters that are seemingly scolding their employees is very unprofessional. Frankly, it should be hidden in their break room (if they even have that). I'd rather drive further to pay for over priced groceries at Sheltons or Big Johns than to shop here. Something should really be done about this. read more

I had the most UNPLESANT experience this morning with a lady checker who acted like I was breaking the law for returning bad salad greens and awful tasting seafood. It was not busy, so I can't imagine why I was treated so badly. She would not speak to me or explain what was happening with the transaction, and it was not clear on the receipt. I have shopped at this store for over 30 years and watched it go downhill ever since. I have shopped at many other Safeways and Healdsburg is by far the worst. Safeway treats their employees like crap, especially the good ones. The customer service is crappy as in there are NEVER enough check stands open. The express lane (15 items or less) is rarely open past 5:00 pm, you know when most people get off of work and need to grab a few things real quick. Their selection of products is the worst of all Safeway's I've shopped at. The prices keep going up and the quality and service keep getting worse. The meat dept. only has 1 decent butcher, he has been there quite awhile, a few others try to help and a few more are useless. I once waited more than 15 minutes for the butcher after being paged several times. The next day I waited 10. It was the same butcher. The deli has a few good workers that are very nice and helpful and a lot more that like to hide behind the wall. The floral dept. is phenomenal and one of the few reasons I go back. I try to support the several nice people and departments I have become familiar with, but it is really hard when the management obviously doesn't care about the customers or the employees. So now, I do most of my shopping at the Windsor Safeway, Oliver's and other stores, it is worth the trip. read more
