This review is specifically about their flowers and their florists. I came to this Safeway twice to get birthday bouquets. I didn't want to pay $35+ for a nice premade bouquet but I felt like the cheaper bouquets were lacking. SO I asked the florists if they could combine two of the cheaper bouquets and they said YES!!!! It's only a $2 fee!! My favorite one was a bouquet of red roses and yellow flowers to which I added sunflowers to. Absolutely STUNNING. My friend LOVED IT. I believe it came out to about $20-25 for that bouquet and I liked it better than the $35 premade ones. I loved that I was able to customize the bouquet and I was even able to choose the color of the tissue paper and the bow. The florists themselves are incredibly nice and they know what they're doing!! I was even able to ask them for advice as to which bouquets would pair nicely together. read more

Ah, Safeway. I remember coming to this brand spanking new Safeway quite often years ago, but due to higher prices, a severe lack of good advertised deals, and an even more severe lack of Just For U deals, I don't come to Safeway very often. Right now, I only come for deals on coffee (Lavazza), and FREE things from the Safeway App lol. This Safeway is located on Piikoi and Beretania. There's a decent sized parking lot that does get busy when people get off work, especially on Fridays. The lot is spacious, but it's getting more and more dirty and smelly. The entire Safeway is on the second floor with four entrances: the stairs next TMobile, elevators next to it, escalators next to that, and another set of stairs from the going down escalators. The inside is very big and spacious with a sushi bar, sandwich station, bakery, deli, seafood, and a Starbucks. It's almost exactly like the Kapahulu Safeway. My biggest issue with this Safeway is the slow pace of the cashiers and lack there of. There's always a long line at every register whether busy or not, and sometimes an even longer line at self-checkout. I usually do self checkout as it is slightly more quicker, and I often see the person working there running around to this register then to another register to mostly approve something or help customers who have no clue how to use it (why are you even using it!?). So it can be frustrating checking out here. Overall, it is a nice, big, and spacious Safeway that's well-stocked to shop in, especially when it's not busy. read more

This Safeway is clean and has the most selection of the other stores. I can usually find whatever I'm looking for here. My favorite sections, though, are their Bakery and Florist. Our go-to celebration cake is their vanilla cake with custard and fresh strawberry filling. It's always moist and sure to please mostly everyone! Whenever I need a bouquet or roses this is my first stop. Their prices are very reasonable and they always have something I can use. The flowers are usually fresh and pretty. If you need balloons, they've got those, too! Not as cheap as Walmart balloons, but they're there if you're in a hurry. read more

This review is for the Safeway Bakery at this location. My son's 1 year old birthday party is next weekend & of course I'm looking for his cake last minute. The party is Superhero+comic book themed so I wanted a sheet cake with his photo dressed as superman on it. He will have his own smash cake--the cake I'm ordering is for the guests. I've been calling around, looking for a bakery that can accommodate my theme and photo request, as well as provide an affordable, delicious cake. By far, this Safeway bakery has offered the best customer service. I called once to see if they had what I needed, as well as get a price quote. The customer service rep was super friendly and answered all my questions. A full sheet cake runs about $65 (say what?! so affordable compared to other places I've looked) & feeds about 70-80 people (half a sheet is $40+). We'll have other desserts at the party as well so the full sheet was exactly what I was looking for. The bakery only needs 24 hours notice prior to the event to order the cake, but it never hurts to order earlier. If you want a photo cake you also need to bring in a photo when you order (not a pic from your phone or anything, just a regular hard copy). If you opt for a themed cake they had some great options, there was a wide variety and they all looked awesome! The variety of flavors for the cake and filling was nice too. They had red velvet, white, chocolate, marble, etc. The filling ranged from custard to chocolate and even strawberry. I will definitely be posting a pic when I get the cake on Saturday. I had 2 people help me when I went in to order the cake. The first was a really nice lady who told me I needed a hard copy of the photo (I should've asked on the phone lol). When I came back Thomas helped me (pretty sure that was his name). He was very helpful, told me what flavors were popular and was very patient with me since I can be pretty indecisive at times lol. I put in my order and I pay when I pick it up. I was surprised that their bakery is open after 5p, not sure when they close but they are there late and they are flexible when it comes to the time you want to pick your cake up. I had a great experience here and I will definitely be back for more birthday cakes in the future--just because it was an easy order process and the staff was so friendly. I included a partial photo of the cake that I just found. I didn't love how it looked because it did seem a bit plain. I thought the photo was going to take up the whole cake, I should have clarified & communicated with the actual cake decorator. Now I know lol. Overall, the cake tasted great and it provided enough small pieces for over 100 guests so it did the job. You really can't beat the affordability and great customer service here. read more

I went to Safeway Beretania to claim my "free" 3-roll bathroom tissue. No free tissue and according to Safeway staff, there is no substitute and there is no rain check. Rain check only made on the expiration day (July 5). They asked me to come back tomorrow to claim it. If I am unable to get it tomorrow (July 4), I can return on July 5........ What a scam! I do not like their APP. It did not save me money and this incident adds more reason NOT to use it. By the way, after calculating the time and gas, I decide not to claim the tissue. It probably was what Safeway wanted in the first place, lure me there to buy something but no reward. read more

This Safeway is located on the corner of Piikoi and Beretania. It's different in that the store itself is on the 2nd floor and parking is on ground level. Most of the parking is nice in the shade to protect you and your car from the brutal sun. If you don't feel like driving around looking for parking, look for sunny stalls near the corner of the lot. I like that the stalls are nicely sized, you don't have to worry as much as other places about getting door dings and/or having to suck in your stomach to get to the driver door. There are stairs, escalators, and elevator to access 2nd level. I am happy with the customer service received overall. On 12/05, Saturday, around 11am, I had a question about the gift card promotion, the gentleman at the Customer Service desk was very patient and helpful. He was able to point out the flyer at the gift card section that my odd brain somehow missed. And I realized how stupid I looked asking a question only because I was too blind to see the promotion flyer. I liked that, at self checkout, seeing the prices, I realized that one of the items needed a coupon to be added to my Safeway U account. I had to void the items, finish the transaction. Add the coupon on my phone to my account, and make a second transaction to checkout the items with the coupon. The gentleman in charge of self checkout was also very patient and understanding. We need to save what we can in these trying times. That Safeway digital coupon clipping is a pain in the butt. They have regular price, advertised sale price, and digital coupon price. I would dock a star just for the inconvenience to save some $$. But that is Safeway corporation fault, not the fault of the store. So I won't dock a star for that. What I will dock the store one star for is the layout. If you ignore the earlier paragraph about me asking a stupid question, I'd say I'm a pretty sensible and logical person. The layout was not the easiest in finding stuff. Taco sauce - which aisle do you think you can find it in. Hispanic aisle? Nope! Spices? Nope! It was in the stuffing/gravy aisle! How about mozzarella cheese? You see a stand near the milk with various cheese including sour cream. You'd think it'd be there. Nope. Go the the Cheese aisle! And (ignoring my mention of not being to see things), I wasn't able to find the cheese aisle right away. It's written on the sign, but the sign itself isn't in a good location to see. While normally my go-to for shopping after 10pm, tonight (May 7th, 2023 at around 2:45 am) the "security" staff absolutely ruined my experience. I came in for the sole purpose of buying "Lagunitas Sparkling Hop Water" (water with hops in it) which is a non-alcoholic beverage. The box clearly stated that it was non-alcoholic but the security lady took it out of my hand and with an incredibly condescending tone told me that I was wrong. She then followed me around the store watching me as though she were expecting me to start stealing, before she suggested I get some ginger-beer instead. This security lady does not instill confidence within me regarding the safety of this store, nor me within it; all she appears capable of stopping is potential sales. The hops water needs to be moved away from the alcoholic drinks because it contains no alcohol, and imbecilic security staff will make it so that not a single case will ever sell otherwise. For the purpose of managing your POS system, the hops water needs to be reclassified as a non-controlled beverage because despite the helpfulness of the cashier, it would not scan. That is ridiculous considering the two ingredients are water and hops flavoring, and despite the ignorant remarks of the security woman, hops do not immediately turn a drink alcoholic. Some literacy classes for the particular security lady working tonight might also prove helpful, because she seemed unable to read what clearly said "non-alcoholic" in big bold letters on that box. I had already done my grocery shopping for the week but as usual was not able to get a few things on my list. I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop here at this Safeway. OMG! This store was amazing! It was nice, clean, well stocked and didn't smell. It was like going to a grocery store on the mainland. I was able to get everything I needed at this store. I would highly recommend going here. One tip though: if you don't already have it, get the Safeway discount card, some things can get kind of expensive without it. read more

I cannot believe it took me about 18 months to step foot into this Safeway since they opened back in late 2011. My sister had her house warming party several weeks ago and her friend brought over this incredible fruit pie that I just loved. I went up to that person and asked where she got the pie and was floored when she told me Safeway, but only the new ones of either Kapahulu or Beretania. I had to cook dinner a couple of days ago and did all of the shopping in Chinatown. For these group of friends I usually pickup a custard pie from Lee's Bakery but decided to come to this Safeway for the fruit pie. Upon arrival I was impressed of the parking lot as it's quite large and the stalls are wide. I was stunned when seeing the escalators going up to Safeway with a special belt to place your shopping cart! The bakery is located in the deep far end (Diamond Head side) of the store and was only disappointed to not find the fruit pie. I went up to the clerk to describe what I was looking for only to be corrected. Indeed, they did make what I was looking for but it's the FRUIT TART. It was after 11am and was advised they don't make the fruit tarts until about 3pm or 4pm. I asked the clerk to call if the Kapahulu store had any but then Marita (another staff) approached me asking if I was willing to wait about 7mins as she was going to make one for me! Of course I agreed and used that time to walk around the prepared foods section. After browsing the store I walked back to the bakery section with the tart ready. At that time I asked if I could place an order for another dinner party the next day. The clerk took my order and gave me my order receipt. At that time it was disclosed the fruit tart is on sale this week - - SCORE!!!!!!! I was so pleased with the fruit tart and carried it to the self checkout cashier section. It was very user friendly and walked out in a flash. We had a large dinner and didn't eat the tart until 10pm and everybody just LOVED it!!! The next day I came back at 6pm with my order receipt and the clerk remembered me. Once again, I took my tart to the self checkout area and walked out in a flash. I am happy to report that my other friends also LOVED the tart. It wasn't too sweet an the fruits were just soooooo YUMMY with the custard cream. The crust is very flaky and it has crystallized sugar on the outer crust. I primarily shop at Pali Safeway as it's near my home. But after this shopping experience I'll come back. I didn't have the chance to shop at other areas of this store but will be back very soon. read more

I've made 2 orders from the app. Both times flowers were out of stock. 1st order was substituted with flowers $10 more. Ok. 2nd time, flowers were canceled from order. I called "vip" Safeway assistance. No assistance. Person answering phone says "no bouquets, no floral person, no substitution. I can't help". Terrible! Really?! No flowers to buy in store because floral person isn't on the clock?! NO OPTIONS?! ZERO EFFORT FOR ASSISTANCE?! YUCK!!! I said I can call Safeway. She says she can get me the number. 5 minutes later, (Google is 10X faster) she gives me a number. I ask is this kapahulu Safeway? She says "sure". No the number 808 535-1780 is not kapahulu. I ask who she spoke to at Safeway "I forgot, but floral person is not working". I call number- it's NOT KAPAHULU! I call kapahulu, they say "sure you can substitute- just call back Safeway app number". Call Safeway app. They say "order is coming from beretania". I call beretania, he says "call app and make another order". I'm not calling app, calling beretania, calling kapahulu, call app, call beretania, make another app order. Sad store person can't walk to refrigerator, pull out flower lei, OFFER ANY KIND OF SUBSTITUTION WITHOUT 15 PHONE CALLS, but, instead "go make another order". why? Too much hum bug. Go elsewhere. I live closer to two other Safeways, but for some reason my deliveries always originate from here. I order online once or twice a week, and this week they really went above and beyond to help me out! I have a toddler who drinks a lot of whole milk (sometimes I have to drive to multiple stores because it's sold out) and this week when I ordered, the one I wanted was out of stock. The app asked if I wanted 2% milk, and didn't give me an option for a different whole milk. When I called in a panic to see if someone could help me, James went out of his way to check what options they had for whole milk and saved the day! When I put these orders in, I really only need the milk, and will order a bunch of other things just to make it worth it to the guys who pack and deliver the groceries. Went to get donuts tonight and found RATS in the pastry case eating the muffins. When we let TWO employees know, they brushed it off like it was nothing, saying that they had already been made aware of the situation. If they knew, they didn't do anything to try and deter people from buying pastries. The first employee in the bakery section that we told was rude and seemed more concerned about going home than taking care of the situation. This Safeway is actually my favorite location. Been going to this location for 4 years and my customer service was so bad last night I had to make a review. At 7:30pm Ms. Kim on register 5 seemed unapologetic about her poor and very slow service. Looking around like she was on a nice walk at the beach while she puts my groceries up in a bag. Said hello and never received a response bag. Only time she spoke was to ask me if I wanted double bagging. I was a regular at the old location, and loved it. It was very accessible and easy to go in and out. I visited this new location last night at around 8 pm. The parking lot seems a little awkward - lots of stop signs, hard right angles, pedestrian walkways, etc. Not a good layout. It must be a nightmare navigating the lot during the daytime when it's more crowded. I personally don't like that the store is on the second level because it increases the time it takes to go in, grab my groceries, and go out. For those times when I only need one or two items and I'm in a rush, I will probably not stop at this location. But otherwise, the store is pretty nice, clean, and the employees are ultra friendly. The store has self check out kiosks, and to this day I still wonder if those kiosks actually speed up the check out process, but it's a nice option. I didn't have a chance to check out the deli or other service counters on this visit. Can't wait to try them next time around. read more

I get it, COVID, blah blah blah. But have at least one full service lane open for people who have a full cart of groceries. Try closing the express lane and open one where everyone can go through. People with just a few items can still use the self checkout (which I love to use when I have a small order). But a large basket of groceries doesn't really fit on the one square foot allocated for bagging in self checkout. And if you have booze you have to sit and wait for someone to come over, then you put your bag in the bagging area and you have wait for someone to come over... I've been coming here for years, but if you don't want to help customers maybe it is time to find a store that will. I've always thought of Safeway as being one of the most expensive grocery stores on the island. They have a beautiful layout and extremely well-organized store. However, recently, they've been running $5 Friday specials. Most notably has have been the $5 a pound bone in New York steak and $5 per pound top sirloin steak with no bone. Apparently this location of Safeway is one of the more popular locations because they have been sold out of their $5 a pound New York and Sirloin specials before 3 p.m. However, the offer a rain check which allows you to come back to the store anytime in the next 90 days to pick up whatever item they were out of. About parking, at first it seems as though there is ample parking however, since the parking lot is shared with the bank and T-Mobile and other stores in the same complex, it can be a great challenge at times. The best advice is to come before noon and parking is typically very easy. In conclusion, this is a great safe way but can be very busy at times. read more

Unfortunately, during a 2-week quarantine, I attempted to order delivery through the safeway delivery service. Nothing fancy, just some bread, meats, cheese, mayonaise, OJ, and soda. I ordered on Friday afternoon, the first delivery available was Sunday morning. Fine. So I order for Sunday morning around 10 and Sunday morning at 9 I receive a call that the order is being canceled because they don't have enough drivers. The order can't be moved, just has to expire and then I have to re-order it for the next day. Of course, by Sunday morning all appointments for Sunday and Monday are taken. So I order for Tuesday bright and early at 9-10 A.M. which is the first delivery available. Around 10:30 Tuesday when my order hasn't arrived I talk to the chat on the Safeway website and they assure me my order is just running a little late. Fine, I'm not going anywhere today anyways. Finally around 11:45 my order arrives except 1/2 of if it is missing. I literally got bread and mayonaise without any of my meats and cheese. So I talk to the very nice door dash driver (how the fuck did they not have enough drivers if they're using door dash anyways?!) who delivered the groceries, he says that's all there was to pick up. He asked them at pickup and they said that's everything. Great. So I call Safeway's customer service and they tell me since more than $25 worth of stuff is missing they can schedule it for re-delivery for Thursday "Morning". So I went to this Safeway to pick up 3 HAPPY BIRTHDAY BALLOONS for my moms 88th birthday. And yea I can see they are busy but I was standing at the register for like 5 minutes and neither gal wants to even look up to atleast acknowledge me. Then one gal Kari asks what do you want. No hi how can I help you. Just what do you want. So I say I'd like to buy some birthday balloons. Kari tells me well you have to wait till we are finished with this order. The other gal was finishing up making a balloon order. I ask Kari is there a book choose the balloons. Kari says No you just tell us which balloon numbers you want. So I pick out three different ones and when she asks me what numbers do I want I tell her. She immediately tells me SORRY those are not available. Then Kari shows me a piece of paper with all these numbers written on it and says THESE ARE NOT AVAILABLE! It was a list of numbers NOT IN ANY SEQUENTIAL ORDER. And seemed like almost all the balloons were out of stock!! So tell me this HOW HARD IS IT FOR THEM TO JUST PUT A POST IT ON THE BALLOONS THAT ARE OUT OF STOCK?? For some time now, this location's Safeway haven't been selling butter mochi. I haven't checked the other locations but this location was the most convenient for me. When I inquired about it to one of the staffs in the bakery department, they told me I can place an order for it. And so I did. (Note that the day I ordered was on a Friday.) They written the order on a carbon paper and gave me the customer portion of the receipt. I requested to pick it up the day after as I had planned it for a potluck. On the day of, I received a phone call in the later half of the day where the staff informed me that they "didn't have it at the front." Confused, I called the bakery department to be answered by a lady with a heavy accent. I tried getting clarification on the matter. I understood that they didn't have it at the front, hence the special order. But it was difficult to comprehend the lady due to her accent as she kept repeating "no more at front" or that they lost my paper of the order. I questioned her how they lost the paper of an order, much less be able to contact me if they lost it. I have nothing against those whose English isn't their first language. But it does affect communication when a confusion like this occurs, so I asked her if I could speak to another staff. I heard her going to the back and indistinct chatter with the other staffs. But only to find the same lady coming back to answer the phone. The lady said "come back tomorrow" and by this point, I was getting a bit frustrated. I placed an order THE DAY BEFORE because they haven't been making it. If they haven't been making it for a while where I had to place a pre-order that they DIDNT COMPLY TO, then why would I think that they'll have it the day after? And I needed it for an event that was occurring on Sat. I don't need it the day after. After a back and forth discussion, the lady went to the back once more. A new voice answered the phone but then they put me on hold for over 3 minute. At that point, it wasn't worth it and I gave up. Because of this whole ordeal, I had to have a last minute plan to bring for my potluck event that day. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience and I would NOT be coming here again. I just can't help but to think what's the point of placing an order if you're going to NOT ADHERE TO THE ORDER AND LOSE THE RECEIPT. Best try your luck somewhere else than here. read more

I'm still recovering from sticker shock. I know that prices in Hawaii are higher than on the mainland but produce is more expensive than other higher end grocery stores on Oahu. I like how this location has ample parking, is open early and late, is clean, and has well stocked shelves. The produce section is ok but could be better. I was pleasantly surprised to find poblano peppers. But green onions for $1.99 and a plain brown onion for nearly $3 ea is outrageous! Because it is under the same corporate umbrella as Vons, they have the Select brand. Prices are slightly more but not by much. The bakery section is so so. We did like their salt and vinegar wings. Super yummy! Shopping here is convenient but crazy expensive. read more

I go to a grocery store because I need to cook, and I need to cook because I need food to survive. And food is awesome! Even better is when food is on sale. I've loved $5 Fridays at Safeway since they first started doing it several years ago. However, be warned that this Safeway gets ridiculously packed on Fridays to the point that you can't even find parking. Service is pretty good. There was a braddah Akoni (I think that's his name) that helped me yesterday, and he was really nice. I accidentally forgot to grab an item that I asked him to ring up for me, so when I returned he was really understanding. If I could give these idiots zero stars, I would! Do not order from this store, because chances are very slim that you will get the delivery as expected. I placed an order for over $100 on Saturday at noon, and found out at 5:30 on Sunday that it wasn't going to be delivered between 7 and 8 PM that night. I placed an order Sunday night for Tuesday between 7 and 8 PM, and I i didn't even get an email to let me know that my order had been canceled "due to high volume or low inventory." Thank goodness I didn't have an older person or a child at home! Mixed bag of service. The meat and floral depts seem to have the best customer service. They're attentive & know what you're looking for. The bread dept on the other hand look like they've checked out of their lives, and if you're a female like I am, they probably won't ask you if you need help. The younger male who stood by looking around a few feet away from me got asked if he needed help. So sexiest-- I think the bakery ladies need to equally ask if anyone needs help. I'm standing there for at least 30 seconds until I ask, "I have a question?" One of them doesn't make eye contact and the other one who somewhat helps is clueless to the bread brands and doesn't speak good English. Picking up odds and ends. Refrigerator empty, just putting in the bare minimum to keep things fresh. This store is on the second floor with a built in parking garage. Got some juices there that not to much places carry or the size that I want. Plus, it's close to my home, yay! Its after dinner so picked up some snacks as well. Nice atmosphere to shop. Although, it's on the second floor, they have a dedicated section for wagons to go down located next to the escalator to the first floor. So you'll be able to go down at the same time. Very convenient. Love to shop here. read more

FALSE ADVERTISING. I made an online order last night and it says the order will be ready for pick up at 5PM. I went to get some groceries at around 3PM and was planning to pick up my order after. I was done with shopping at 4PM and went to the customer service desk to see if I can pick up my order early. The lady pointed to the phone number and had me to call them to check. I called and no one answered. I stood there for about 5 minutes and another employee came up to me and asked if I need help. He referred me to the bakery area. I went there and saw an employee (Rory) passing by so I walked up to him and asked him about my order status. He immediately asked me if I ordered ice cream and I told him yes. He instantly informed me "We cancelled the order". I was shocked and asked for the reason. He replied "We just don't process ice cream in Hawaii". I told him I did not receive any email or notification about the order cancellation, and showed him my text messages from Safeway and Safeway App which both says In Process. He replied "We cancelled your order on our side. You will not be charged. Bye." and walked away. 1. The store fridge was full of ice cream. Safeway and the employees just refused to process it. (See the picture attached) 2. I did not receive any email or notification about cancellation until I went to the store and asked even until now 6PM during the pick up time frame. 3. My order got canceled on their side and they did not give me a valid reason or any form of notice about the cancellation. 4. The employee (Rory) was not able to tell me the reason why my order got canceled. He was not helpful to find out the reason. He reacted impatiently and talked rudely. This is FALSE ADVERTISING. Allowing customers to order and canceling it without notice. I need policy details and a reasonable explanation about this incident, including remedying the time I lost from this awful store experience. I will contact the Corporate Office and upper management if I do not hear anything. read more

12-31-22. My mom and I are still on a search for her love of spicy poke. We decided to do some shopping at Safeway before going to the fish market to buy some spicy poke. I ordered a shoyu poke and my mom got the spicy poke. We were greeted by a friendly woman, and she was very generous with the portion. The lines were long, but we didn't have to wait that long which is very good. When we got home, we thought we found our place for the best poke. My shoyu poke was previously frozen but still good enough to eat then solid and hard texture poke. My mom's spicy poke was frozen, also way too creamy and mayonnaise to her liking. I love the customer service at this Safeway so i'm very happy!. read more

Don't come here on a $5 Friday! Got here around 3pm and everything $5 Friday related I was interested in was completely sold out: the ice cream, the bacon, and the chicken tenders to name a few. My wife and I were trying to find the $5 bacon, we kindly asked a meat department worker where the bacon was and he had no idea what we were talking about, it took him a few moments to even remember where they stock their bacon! You should really know the specials within your own department. Couldn't even buy ice cream because the aisle was wiped out. Not just the $5 specials, but the regular sale stuff too. This was BEFORE the going-home-rush, and it was very slim pickings on everything. This location is okay on regular days, but on $5 Fridays or the days leading up to big holidays, they struggle to keep a decent stock of hot items. Go elsewhere. read more

They have an excellent selection of produce and everything else you need from a grocery store. Safeway is my grocer of choice at home so I was excited to see one so close to where I was staying at my friend's place. I stocked up here on avocados, breakfast snacks, and frozen guava ice! They have a nice parking structure attached for ease of parking and the store is clean and well organized. Employees here were sweet and friendly. I'm so glad my friend has access to this store on a regular basis - they are wonderful! I'm looking forward to my next visit to the island and making this my first stop for sure! read more
