We were out in Kailua and stopped by the Safeway at Aikahi Park Shopping Center. The store was clean and they offered the usual merchandise. All Safeways are basically the same. They have a deli, seafood, meat and floral department. This is one of the smaller stores, so they didn't have a whole bakery department. They did sell limited baked goods. We were there on Valentine's Day and they were out of strawberries and the cupcakes that we were looking for. read more

If I could rate my experience a zero I would. There is a woman that works early mornings at the cashier and she is so rude. She does not even say good morning, doesnt say thank you or anything. No matter how many times I try and talk to her shes rude every single time. After so many encounters with her I dont even bother anymore and nothings changed she still doesnt even crack a smile. We just did our second drive up order, perfect for Holidays especially since it's a new service and not many know yet. This time tried cold/frozen items. Ice cream still solid when we got home. Everything was A+++ perfect. Prompt delivery. No issues. As easy as the first order. This is a great service. Still no identifiable parking spots w/ signage that we saw. On Thursday, June 5 at about 330 I was starving after my swim so along with my groceries I bought the $10 chicken wings plate from Safeway. I enjoyed the fried chicken before from the Safeway across WINDWARD mall... Well, these wings (spicy) were so salty I felt like I was taking a bite out of the Pacific Ocean... On the off chance that it was only the one wing I ate a second one but... Horrible! potato macaroni salad and papaya salad were OK. The service was lovely. The young woman was very polite and patient explaining the different chicken wing flavors, etc. needless to say a horrible disappointment. It also tasted like the wings were fried twice over so rather hard and dry rather than tenderand crispy -ended up throwing everything away. read more

Is it me or does your Safeway Deli items from this location go bad quickly? For me it seems my deli sandwich meat, broccoli crunch salad, Mac salad can start to get slimy or taste sour within 3-5 days of purchase despite straight into the fridge. Their Deli SUCKS! No customer service at all. 3 employees working, one person making sandwiches, another stocking sandwiches on the floor, another walking around pretending not to see the 3 people waiting to order. If you don't want to wait your whole lunch break to order, don't go there. It's sad because they use to be good. read more

This Safeway has what you are looking for, they usually do....my 2 star rating is for the Friday evening cashier named Francis. He is horrible, no hi or hello, didn't even look at me when he started ringing me up, and not even a thank you after my transaction was done. It was almost like I wasn't even there. Thought it was just me because this has happened more than once, but he also didn't thank the lady before me as well. I always give the "look" to my husband when we have to get in his line. This store is right next to Target, so it has to be competitive on price. What I like about this store , the shelves are well stocked. They also have better prices on some items than Target and the other stores around here. They have $5 Friday's which have bargains. I like their $5 sushi. I think they do so well because Target is always missing something you need, but I always find it at Safeway. read more

Safeway seems to vary by location. I live in Kahalu'u and use the Kaneohe store which is AWFUL, always out of whatever is on sale, esp. Friday specials...and they refuse raincheck, saying wait for another shipment...(WTF?) I have wasted a lot of time w/rain-checks there, even trying to GET one when they are out of sale items. At a stark contrast, while at MGBH I stopped here @ Aikahi Safeway for a few items and again used a raincheck w/NO PROBLEM at all. They were also out of a sale item and the cashier gave me a raincheck with a BIG SMILE--and because I related the probs in Kaneohe, as they will give you ONE item on a raincheck, even if you have a raincheck for 2 or 3 items... She spent extra time doing three rain-checks with one item each so I will NOT have more pilikia cashing them in at the Kaneohe store. THAT was really appreciated and she went beyond...mahalos! read more

This has been my local grocery store for the last 50 yrs. I think the service is generally friendly & helpful. I like the produce & meats.

I had ordered groceries online for my brother I live in California The food was delivered to someone else and my brother never received the food I tried calling and talking to multiple people All they could offer was a redelivery for another day or a refund I asked for a refund the delivery driver said he put the address in his GPS he didn't mention where he delivered it to. I received an email stating it was delivered I was furious as I am a single mom and was just trying to help my family they didn't offer anything free in return for their mishap. This is the second time I had the problems with the delivery service. The first time the guy got lost and was late but at least he called and delivered the food this time is was delivered to another person I told them I'm never ordering from them again. read more

This Safeway location could really use some renovations and it doesn't look really that appealing on the inside as it is. Then again, I rarely like to shop at Safeway here in Hawaii as I'd much rather go to the other local market chains like Foodland instead. We stopped by this Safeway to grab some lunch items before we went to a rummage sale and tour of the WWII tunnels nearby. I was impressed with the prepared food selections, and because I couldn't decide on what to get, I ended up with spicy summer rolls from the bento area, and boneless honey barbecue wings and bone-in barbecue wings from the deli. @Janice H. got some caprese salad from the deli section, too. The summer rolls were a nice, fresh and low-carb option, complete with chili sauce, but I didn't use it. They were super cold, which is a good thing, but I had to let them to warm up a bit so I didn't hurt my teeth when I bit them. The honey barbecue boneless wings were really, really good! How often are the "sauced" wings/chicken fingers you get in a deli still crunchy? I had to eat them all up to enjoy all of the crunchy, saucy goodness. Of course, that meant that I was too full to eat my bone-in wings, but they came home with me, and I had them for home lunch today. Still good! I had a bite of the caprese salad too. It was grape tomatoes, shredded mozzarella & mozzarella balls, plus I think pest. Not your "usual" caprese, but I'd go back and eat it again. I'm rarely in the Aikahi area, but I'll remember the good deli eats there for future reference. Perhaps the other Safeways closer to my beaten paths have the same items! read more

The cashiers are unprofessional and won't talk to you. On no less than two occasions with two different cashiers I asked a question while checking out and received NO RESPONSE. I literally couldn't believe it. If that is your customer service I will gladly drive elsewhere for my groceries. Sad, because I am a regular. No longer. The deli is extremely, extremely slow. It is also, extremely disorganized. When it's busy at lunch time no one knows who is next in line. I stood waiting for 15 minutes today and the workers made a total of 2 sandwhiches, I counted. I will be back for 5 dollar Friday, but I left disappointed today with no sandwich. read more

I've been going to this Safeway for about 6 years now. It's not the nicest nor is it the newest Safeway(unlike the remodeled ones at Manoa, Hawaii Kai or Kapahulu) but its solid. Aikahi park shopping center has tons of parking in general so that isn't an issue ever. I typically go there during the midday and they typically only have 2 registers open. But if a line forms they usually open up to 3-4 registers. This Safeway also has its own deli department where they sell hot items, like fried chicken, burrito, potato wedges, chicken fingers, chicken wings, boneless chicken wings, sometimes rice and whole rotisserie chicken. They also have a nice selection of cold deli items like potato salad, grilled chicken breast, curry salad, mac salad, deli turkey, ham, roast beef and chicken. If you're going during lunch time they make pretty good deli sandwiches that usually run about 5$. You can also call in your order because sometimes during lunch time you usually have to wait. Typically there are only 1-2 people working in the deli area. I personally like the meat selection and the staff that runs it. They are always helpful and asking if you need assistance. The produce selection has good variety and everything I've gotten from there has been good. If this location lacks anything it is a good bakery area. Usually variety and quantity is very limited(for instance fresh bagels/breads/doughnuts) It's not a bad neighborhood store although the prices are probably cheaper at Don Quiote, Foodland and Times but if you live in the neighborhood you can't beat the convenience. read more

He should NOT be behind the checkout counter, and almost always has the longest line due to his incompetence. Scary to think what you're getting when he's in the deli which is most of the time. Why is this Safeway so run down and shitty? There never seems like there's more than 3 employees at ANY given time, and they seems miserable to be there, which is completely understandable if you ask me. The store, while it may have plenty of items, is so so so gloomy and old. It's dirty all the time, and smells pretty bad sometimes even terrible, probably because it hasn't been renovated EVER. This store is Very very poorly laid out, like someone hit the random button on the organization spreadsheet in Excel. For a bit I genuinely thought that it was just the safeway brand. But right now I'm at the safeway in Honolulu basking in it's glory at how beautiful it is. This store brings down the home values of the neighborhood around it it's so bad. Poor management I guess. Or if it's privately owned, the owner has to be too old to care, or too incompetent to understand. I shop here often, I was totally discouraged the other day when I placed my toddler in the child seat in the shopping cart. She wants to do things herself so I was horrified when I watched her try to strap the seat strap around her neck. Makai Animal Clinic, I suppose paid Safeway to advertise on the back of the toddler seat so someone took the time to raise the straps where a toddlers neck would be. This is unacceptable. This Safeway location was very convenient since it was the closest to where I was staying. Customer service was great and some of the cashiers suggested places for us to visit. There is usually an employee located within 2-3 aisles stocking, organizing and ready to help with any assistance you may need. This is my favorite Safeway on the island. The cleanliness, organization of items and flow of the store allows me to get in and get out with everything that I went there for. They also go the extra mile to accommodate their customers. They are constantly opening new cashiers to eliminate wait time and with a staff member on almost every aisle you never have to wander aimlessly throughout the store looking for that last item that you probably passed a few times without even knowing it. The staff is personable and welcoming to an extent that I have become friends with a few members of the team and continue to get to know the rest of the staff every time I go there. It's so refreshing to see an establishment that has so much integrity in their work making this my go to market on the island. read more

Safeway is a little expensive when you want to go grocery shopping compared to the NEX. But other than that they do have a wider variety of certain items there. I think though the best thing about Safeway is that they are everywhere and in good locations as well read more

Hey this place is a supermarket with all kinds of supermarket stuff. What I mostly plan to write about is the deli because the place is just like any other Safeway you may find. Anyways I'm a fan of the deli here because of the good food and the friendly service. Some of my favorite things to eat here are the asian spicy chicken and the tofu salad. Paired together this is a match perfect for my random stomach cravings and the tofu salad is especially good and always leaves me wanting more. Sometimes you can also catch some pretty sweet deals on the chicken but you have to buy a couple pounds to be eligible. The sandwiches are also very good and blow subway out of the water. From the meat, to the bread, to the veggies everything just tastes better here. Its a little more expensive here than subway but totally worth it to me. Also after you buy so many sandwiches (7 I think?) you get a free one! Lastly the deli servers are always friendly and let me know of any sweet deals that are being offered. read more

This Safeway is located in a very convenient location, right across the road from Paradise Palms Bed and Breakfast which is where my husband and I are staying for our vacation. It is open until midnight, and perfect for those last-minute purchases. We went at 10pm on a weeknight because I realized we were out of coffee creamer. I am frustrated by Safeway's deal match program. I signed up on-line for a buy-one get-one-free offer for raspberries. When I bought them, they charged me $5 for the second package of raspberries. They finally let me have the second package free, but only grudgingly, accusing me of not doing it on-line. The special price ($5 for 12oz) is still higher than CostCo where the same amount of raspberries costs $4. I also had a $3 off $10 of produce. I purchased over $10 of produce, but when the coupon was scanned, it reduced the total by only a penny. If they are going to push this on-line stuff and these coupons so much, they need to scrupulously honor them. read more

This place is "OK" if you forgot something small, but not a place to shop for bargains of any type. I really feel bad for the local community who doesn't have access to the commissary. Not only is it a place that time forgot, the selection is minimal and the prices are outrageous. When comparing to other local stores this Safeway is no competition, averaging $1 to $3 higher. I go there for one thing and that is their generic brand soda water. However, even that is $2 a 12 pack higher than what i paid on the mainland. Last time I went there to pick up a few items i missed for a dinner party, I spent $23 for two bags of chips, one jar of salsa, an avocado, and 2 small bottles of soda water. Give me a break. My suggestion, go out of your way and marry someone in the military. Even if you don't like them, the commissary benefit may be well worth it!!! read more

I went to the store today to pick up a couple of items and I was kind of shocked at the appearance of the store. It's the weekend. I know it's rainy, but it's payday weekend for most people. There were two cashiers open and the lines were all the way down the store almost to the door. It was difficult to navigate because of the lines. The deli shelves were not fully stocked, but I've come to accept this as the norm for this store. When I finished my shopping (I only needed 2 items), I stood in the 15 items or less line and saw that there had been a third line opened. It was still very crowded. As I was standing in line I heard them call for another checker. This is not a store that has self checkout. As I stated before, this store is in dire need of an upgrade. I'm hoping that someday Safeway will put some money into this store as it is a great benefit to the Aikahi shopping center. A great many people rely on this store for their shopping needs. read more
