I was working at this Safeway Supermarket branch in Enchanted Lakes this morning, and what really inspired me to write a review of this supermarket is because I saw a ton of great photos that were posted by my Yelp buddy - Donna O., lol! The store in the Enchanted Lakes neighborhood is clean, but the store appears to be on the older side, as compared to the Safeway store I normally shop at - Kapahulu branch. The folks who work at this Enchanted Lakes store were very friendly & helpful as several workers came up to me offering their help/assistance when I came to the store to fix something in their office. I swear if I lived in the Kailua neighborhood, I would totally shop at this store due to the friendliness of the staff. Parking here is easy, as the supermarket is situated at a small strip mall where the parking is shared by other business nearby. read more

Convenient Location near home with just about everything I need on a whim! Tonight it's a Friday night frozen pizza and big digital savings on that extra cheese please! $2.49 for 8 ounces! YES! Then there's the $5.00 deli items, 8-piece Fried Chicken! CheeeeeeeHoo! Also there's a BOH ATM for quick cash. They even have a change to bitcoin machine for anyone wanting to transform coins into da Kine! Service here has that friendly local vibe with Aloha. This Kailua Enchanted Lake Safeway store is an older Safeway store, compared to the newer main Safeway store in the heart of Kailua town. We also have another Safeway near the Kaneohe Marine base at the Aikahi Shopping Center. I like to shop at this Enchanted Lakes location, because it has a lot of shared parking stalls with other businesses at the Enchanted Lake Shopping Center. It's a busy store, but not as hectic as maybe the main store. I like that they have two fryers than some of the other stores may have only one fryer. They seem to have enough fried chicken available when they have a sale. Best deal on Five dollar Fridays and daily $10 plate with 2 sides with your protein choice. It can be those side salads like broccoli salad, Okinawan sweet potato, pasta salads, potato wedges, and more! It's a good deal! Maybe there are less frozen meals and bake goods/cakes since the Hamakua location has a bakery. They have different selection of frozen items than you would find at other grocery stores. This location I love the Arizona cucumber flavored drink. I can only find it here. Gift cards are easy to get from here and I like that a separate activation receipt with the amount is printed after purchase to be attached to the gift cards. I shop at this store regularly and this time when checking out the cashier named Annie seem a little annoyed because my purchases didn't include the Friday $5 deals. I even doubted myself and had to double check my items which should come out to $30. The total was $40 and she was able to fix the mistake. Super NICE! The way it's set up and arranged is super welcoming! Doesn't look messy or crowded & it looks well stocked and organized. WHICH THEY ARE! And I may be super bias at the moment as to rating them a 5-Star because they're the ONLY SAFEWAY that had our baby's formula in stock. Although it was one can... ONE IS MUCH BETTER THAN NONE! The short, elderly, Asian woman in the deli is very rude. I'm standing by the deli counter she stared at me, not even a " Hi can I help you" she just stares. When I ask for a 16 piece chicken she rudely says, " fried chicken, we don't sell it when we have others items on sale". I told her I'm not here for the sale! Lucky to live in Kailua! Among many other reasons, there are 3 (count 'em 3) Safeway stores in Kailua, as Lynne H mentioned in her review. This Safeway is located in the Enchanted Lake Shopping Center on Keolu Drive (look for the McDonald's and Ben Franklin). Parking is usually easy to get, except when the Farmers' Market is open on Sunday mornings. There's a great seafood counter to get your poke fix, as well other nearby counters to satisfy your craving for fried chicken, chicken wings, or sushi. Download the app so you can see their weekly ad and get special offers, especially their Friday $5 offers (which usually sell out quickly). Whenever I buy the Lucerne milk from here it is sour. It happened at the Kaneohe Safeway store too. I am not sure what is going on here.

First time in this store. I found everything I needed except for some of my favorite cheeses in the deli section. Great customer service and friendly cashier!!! Love looking at the flower section. The Keolu Safeway is the closest big grocery store to waimanalo. In fact, after the Hawaii Kai foodland closed, there is nothing but Shima's between HK safeway and Keolu Safeway. The Keolu Safeway is located in the small shopping center that has a Starbucks, a McDonald's and a few good restaurants. It's also right across the street from the shack. Now don't get me wrong, I love Shima's, but they don't carry everything that safeway has. Safeway has a larger selection of basically everything. I like that parking is pretty convenient and that I can get anything from flowers to ice cream and produce and spices. The only junk thing about this safeway is that it doesn't have a bakery. You'll need to drive to the Kailua safeway if you want to order a cake, but really, who buys safeway cakes anymore? Just get one from Costco, it's like 1/2 the price. read more

Let me start by saying that I usually shop at night (after 7 or 8pm) so take my review with a grain of salt and know that your experience may differ. [FOOD] Actually like the POKE here. In my experience it always tastes fresh. Same thing goes for the SUSHI that they sell. [PARKING] Huge parking lot here so we haven't had any problems finding a parking spot. Huge shout out to the Safeway staff over here providing outstanding customer service. I'm not too sure if the covid issues have affected the amount of fish they bring in but there wasn't much seafood out. I asked a gentleman if they still had crab ( I was making seafood boil ) he was extremely patient in helping me with pricing & deciding how much crab to get. Absolutely outstanding service. This Safeway team really went above & beyond. It definitely took me by surprise because any other Safeway I've gone to seafood/ deli service has been very basic or mediocre at that. Wow!!! The truth is I am tired of shopping at Sam's Club because I typically do meal prep and that is the place to go to get Bulky stuff. So it is always a treat when I get to enter a store but to me it's like the Gucci store yes I just said Gucci. I dub this the Safeway Gucci in Honolulu! This place has an a array of selections, did I mention there's a Starbucks inside of this place? This was a great location so well maintained! I even noticed the fruits were color schemes! No joke. THIS LOCATION HAS BEEN TRANSFORMED! I am so happy they have finally renovated and improved this wonderful Safeway! I live nearby and sometimes would go a little farther to town for organic produce choices and other healthy fresh cooked meals. I have no need to go anywhere anymore because they have everything here right now they didn't have before like: - fresh sushi made daily - poke! - fresh hot soups - sandwiches - fresh baked donuts! - deli meats and salads! - ORGANIC fruits and vegetables! - many other healthy choices, new yogurt types, farm fresh eggs, local choices! This was the grocery store I would go to growing up so it holds a special place in my memories. I remember playing "lava" while my mom shopped. My neighbor, who I called "mama" worked here, too. In high school, after mama retired, people I grew up with, worked here. When I had my baby, I shopped here. It was a great little grocery store that had everything I needed. Then I moved to town and got spoiled by the gigantic Safeway stores. Or the specialty grocery stores. Or the locally owned grocery stores. All of a sudden, these stores seemed so much better than the Enchanted Lake Safeway. Oh I have so much to select from! I loved it! But fast forward to now, I'm back at my childhood home and here I am shopping for the necessities that I need. If I need specialty items, I can go to R. Field or Whole Foods in Kailua town. But all the basics are here. Yes, there isn't much selection, but you need it, it's there you don't have to mull what brand there is, because there may only be 1 or 2 brands! (Safeway and another brand) It makes shopping quick and easy. So why the 5 star rating? The location is awesome to home. I can walk here and pick up what I need. I found that in town, there aren't many opportunities to walk to the grocery store to pick up something. I usually had to drive a short distance. And the employees here are awesome! No forced I gotta be nice to you because I have to. The people here are genuinely nice! I just love it! Good customer service usually wins me over. Another thing about this store is that it isn't crowded. I have never had to wait more than 2 people in line ahead of me. You pretty much get in and get out. Who doesn't love saving time? Kailua has 3 Safeways and this one is located at the Enchanted Lake Shopping Center. It's a medium sized store not as big as the Hamakua or Aikahi Safeway, and yet it's stocked it full of everything possible. There is no bakery, but they do bring in bread and pastry. I wish they'd do a feng shui makeover in the meat department . It isn't very appetizing (think messy and lots of stains...ick), but they do carry a decent selection. The vegetable/fruit dept. guy is always helpful. Tip: Safeway is the only market in Kailua where I've been able to find Ka Lei eggs (no hormones and antibiotic free). The nice thing about this Safeway is that there is always lots of parking so you can zip in and out. ps bread vendor guy.....it's not cool to let the customers see you kicking the stale-dated bread on the ground. read more

***Pre/During COVID-19 Visit*** I love their seafood deli here. The folks who work there are very pleasant and willing to help you. Heads up, they can run out of stuff so it's best that you go early for the best selections. When the pandemic hit in March, they obviously were wiped out with the much needed essentials such as hand wipes and hand sanitizers. The registers aren't always crowded and they have marks for physical distancing. Be very careful in the parking lot as people tend to just back out without even looking. Mahalo! read more

This is the most convenient supermarket for me to shop at (about 1 mile from my home), but the place has really gone down hill. There were rumors about closing this location for several years, mainly because there are (3) Safeways in Kailua and a Foodland and Times. Since Whole Foods opened their Kailua location a couple of months ago, there is less remaining business to circulate. This is more of a large convenience store, lacking a bakery, deli, pharmacy, etc. They basically have grocery items, produce, some meats (I would buy any of their fresh seafood). Very small liquor department. Yes, thats it. The cashiers at this location keep it running. Betty, Angie, Brian, always have friendly smile and provide excellent service. read more

I like this Safeway location because it has a large selection, friendly associates, and is somewhat less crowded than other Kailua grocery stores. The produce, bakery, and dairy departments are pretty good here, and they nearly always have selections of meat on clearance, so I like to stock up on that. Safeway carries certain types/brands of food that other large grocery chain stores don't carry, too. What I don't like is the overly busy shared parking lot (drive carefully!), the merchandise placed right by the front door that clutters the entryway, and the lack of cart corrals in the parking lot. This Safeway is one of those few stores left in their "original" condition, meaning that it's not been renovated and overhauled into modernized appearance. That's a good thing because it feels like an old friend, rather than a more sterile and efficient supermarket. Its still easy to find things and, unlike their newer and streamlined peers, this Safeway has cookies in the LARGE sizes, about three inches in diameter, and nice and crunchy! Quite the treat. And unlike a lot of businesses, they still keep their bathroom opened; however, there is only ONE bathroom for everybody, both sexes, and customers and employees alike. Lines at registers.. cashiers have no bag boys lines are long.. sale items always OUT on shelves never replenished.. and never can reach items on shelves .. new stock not pulled forward The DELI service is awful.. never anyone there to help you.. fried chicken / fries always LOW I found a manager stocking a shelf told him no one to help at Deli.. he said " oh yeah we are low on staff" ??? I feel bad leaving a negative review on my local Safeway; know i didn't come to this decision lightly because there are some very nice people who work here, and the store has recently been improved and renovated. Still, the way this place is managed is piss-poor; here is why: Going thru the checkout line at this place is beyond frustrating. There is typically only ONE cashier on duty, even though there will be a store full of shoppers. Coming in here during the middle of the day to get a single item? HA! So, the way this always goes down, is that the cashier will eventually realize that there are eight, nine, maybe 10 people in line and ask for back up. Then, one of the folks stocking shelves or just wandering around the store BS'ing will come up, QUIETLY wisper to a few of the people at the end of the line, and then rapidly check them out before everyone else catches on. They'll never turn on there light, and as soon as the main line is down to maybe, four cartloads, they'll rope their lane off. Absolutely rediculous. And, they seem annoyed that you dare come into their lane to check out because you've been patiently waiting 10 min just to buy some eggs. Please, this in unsat! The straw that broke the camel's back came today, when i was waiting in line with about four other people for poke. The only person behind the counter was the kid working the deli. He looked over at the line several times, but did not acknowledge us. Finally, some lady, clearly annoyed, asked him for help. 'Oh sorry the meat guy is at lunch. Come back in 20 to 30 min, sorry'. What!? You couldnt just tell us that when you saw a bunch of people standing around? I went to Whole Foods on Thanksgiving, and I kid you not I was in and out of there ten-fold faster than this Safeway on a normal day. If this is due to the fact that they can't hire enough people, then maybe i can cut them some slack. But, seems like the staff doesnt care about the massive lines that form in the front of the store. They didn't have fresh Poke! Ahh...so sad I'm going to have to go with 3 stars. Easy parking and in a plaza with lots of delicious restaurants (if you crave pho, go to Saigon Noodle House!). But it's definitely a smaller and older facility, which is fine...but we were sad we didn't see the display of fresh poke. The price here also seems slightly higher than what we saw at some of the other establishments in the area...but the spam, $1.99 per can - you come here to stock up!! read more

Came here after the satellite city hall and I was so pleasantly surprised at how quiet, clean and organized this safeway was. I was a woman on a mission and a clerk noticed this and asked if I needed help, sure enough, he was helpful and brought me right to my destination, PEANUT BUTTER AND CO PEANUTBUTTERS! She even helped me find one with a coupon! I love that, great customer service always makes me the happiest girl! And peanutbutter is truly a god send treat! read more

Generally I do not review grocery stores. But this one is special because it is a quarter mile from my house and I walk to it often, whenever I have forgotten something essential at the commissary (which happens quite a bit). The prices obviously are a bit more expensive BUT I have discovered that alcohol is slightly cheaper here than on base! So if I don't want seven gallons of vodka from Costco I can purchase a normal sized one here for a decent price :-) Also, the staff is super friendly. I have never been to a grocery store where the staff is so helpful! Yesterday I can here looking for olive oil and the bathroom. I hadn't even made it to the back of the store when a staff asked me what I was looking for. He even walked me all the way to the bathroom! After the bathroom I made it 4 steps before a nice lady asked what I needed and she walked me to the olive oil! I usually suck at shopping. When I am doing my large grocery shopping I normally walk down every aisle and STILL will forget something. It was really nice and refreshing to have such excellent customer service at a grocery store! read more
