Walkable to the beach. They have convenient store items you can purchase as well as a deli and coffee/cafe area. They even sell things you would need for the beach. There's a couple of tables right outside as well. Everything we tried at the deli and cafe were delicious!

Cute spot before heading to the beach. Very affordable, reasonable prices for coffee and drinks. We also ordered poke which was delicious. They sell fresh flowers at the door too along side very unique souvenirs. Market has huge selection of chips, sweets, and other snacks. A great mix of a coffee shop, restaurant, and convenience store. The staff is sweet and they draw a surfer boy on the receipt

Cute little store with lots of souvenirs, drinks, snacks and food. Two of the employees working the front counter looked less than enthused to be there which wasn't very inviting and the sole reason for the lower rating. Would love to try their sandwiches another time as they sounded good, especially after hours at the beach.

Best sandwich I had so far on this trip! Had the Caprese Sandwich and it was delicious! Worth the walk from the beach.

The fresh catch fish burrito is delicious, with fresh lettuce and savory dressing, so refreshing eating it at the beach. Always a favorite of me and my hubby, and I share it with my puppy. It is consistently good every time I ordered it.

My husband is traveling for work and is currently in Hawaii. He recently checked this place out for lunch. The restaurant is clean and well appointed and the staff was very nice. He ordered the Furikake Fresh Catch Bento and he said it was very good. The portion was filling and the flavor was great. if you are on the island and want to try something fresh and authentic, definitely check this place out!

Stopped here as we drove around the island... cute little market... fresh sandwiches... fresh flowers ....Hawaiian Butter Toffee... yum!

A classic example of an independent market that is super convenient, and authentic Hawaii to the extreme! The prices are what they are but the coffee is solid and the sandwiches are right on. The people who work there are friendly and the souvenirs are solid. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in Manhattan walking around with a Kalapawai Market Yeti!

    Must stop in Kailua Town

Wow it's like a foodie paradise. Tasty unusual concoctions that are amazing and unpretentious I had a risotto asparagus cake ( much like a crab cake) that was too yummy. The vegetarian counter gal was most helpfull. At the beverage bar the wide range of beverages and full bar was quite unexpected. Lorraina was too much fun and made us feel like "family". We loved our complimentary dessert...... psych! This place is a must-stop on O'ahu.

I always stop at this locally owned market when I visit Kailua. The historic market was built in 1932! They have a small sandwich shop in the back, a coffee station in front (serving Hawaiian coffee, of course) and convenience store items up front. I like that they carry locally made goods as well. This visit, I picked up red Hawaiian Volcanic Salt, which is hard to find. Prices were reasonable. The market is close to the beach, making it a perfect spot to grab lunch. Sandwich prices have gone up since my last visit, but the sandwiches are large and sharable. The clerks are friendly, helpful and efficient.

a cute stop with all the beach, breakfast, and lunch needs! we had their coffee before the beach and sandwiches for lunch on the beach and it was perfect! iconic location. I has the fresh catch wrap and LOVED it! so fresh :) they also had poke!!!

super yummy sandwiches. my boyfriend and i ordered two kailua club sandwiches and picked up some chips and drinks before heading out to lanikai beach for the day. the sandwiches were fresh and delicious and packed with protein. would recommend.

While on the north shore of Oahu thanks to booking a kayak tour, the package we booked came with lunch. One of the choices was here for a select menu of items. We came here as it looked like more our speed. More of a down home type place that is more focused on food than looking a certain way - vintage with paneling, dim lighting and some solid food. I went with the turkey BLT wrap - which could have used more meat but was good. The deal also came with a bag of chips and a can of soda. Was just the right amount of food - and I liked it here. Would come back and try something new.

    Where is the turkey?

Although the order window is closed, if anyone is browsing the menu, you hear the window slide open and a sweet voice asking, do you have any questions or how can I help you? They have a good amount of sandwiches to select from. Great healthy options as we would expect from Kailua town. And the sandwiches and drinks are reasonably priced. The service is quick but there could be a bit of a wait time during the lunch hour. With so many restaurants in the plaza and another sandwich shop a few doors down, there's quite a bit of patrons sitting outside of Mala Market enjoying their meals from this stand. My sister and I shared the turkey pesto sandwich which was really good and filling. I also got a cup of the gumbo that I enjoyed. And we quenched our thirst with a cold brew for me and a plantation iced tea for my sis. We really enjoyed our meal and appreciate the hospitality of the staff members at Mala Market. And yes, I'll be returning with visiting family members.

The ordering counter and cashier is right as you enter along with thr pastry counter. Inside is airconditioned with around maybe 10 tables and chairs some seat 2 others eat 4 and they also have outside patio seating back and front. Despite the fact that it's a considerably trek for city-dwellers, factoring either traffic or bus schedules into the equation, or both if you're particularly unlucky, it's a journey always worth taking. Hit Hanauma Bay along the way and make it a day trip; the only way to top those dazzling sights is to follow them with a stellar meal. Boasting a menu composed of locally-sourced produce and entirely vegan options, you'll want to take a number of friends for the best experience. Heck, get out there and make some new friends! Join one of the long communal picnic tables out back and introduce yourself; there are no friendlier folks on earth than those living in paradise, as far as I've seen. That said, if there was only one dish to order, it would have to be the Oh WOW Laulau. Wow, indeed! No where else on earth have I found vegan laulau, let alone such a stellar rendition. Traditionally consisting of fatty pork and/or fish steamed in taro leaves, this version eschews the meat in favor of hearty root vegetables, adding creamy coconut into the mix for richness. Not to be overlooked is the Tofu Poke provided on the side, claiming to be spicy but really bearing just enough warmth to taste perfectly balanced. This was easily my personal favorite from the small sampling of dishes provided, but it's a close call when all the options are so good. Another front runner is the BBQ Portobello Sandwich. Mushrooms marinated in a bright, smoky barbecue sauce practically sing between two whole wheat buns. Coconut slaw tops off the assemblage with just the right amount of subtle sweetness to contrast the deeply savory flavors within. Simpler but no less spectacular dishes include the Roasted Veg Platter and Roasted Veg Avocado Sandwich. The way that the vegetables are treated with respect, from the moment they're harvested from nearby farms to the care taken when they reach the kitchen is evident with every bite. Cooked with care and proffered generously with each serving, even the basics make the trek out here worthwhile. I'm still trying to recreate that impossibly umami gravy offered on the side. It's one of those things that are so astoundingly, inconceivably delicious, it's impossible to deconstruct. Each entree promises an ideal amount of food; satisfying diners without over-stuffing them. That said, you'll still want to make room for dessert, especially when you see the towering bowls full of Outta This Swirled Soft Serve. Cool, naturally sweet spirals of banana-based soft serve are dressed to the nines with cacao sauce that hardens much like magic shell, granola and coconut flakes tumbling down the mountainous terrain, and fresh fruits that vary based on local availability- Expect papaya always to be in ample supply, based on the thriving papaya trees on premise. Each order is abundant enough to be a considered a full meal in and of itself.
