Unfortunately, in Payson you have very little choice in grocery stores. I hate shopping here because I always feel ripped off. You HAVE to check your receipt before you leave every time! The prices on the shelf and the advertised prices are not what ring up. It never fails to ring up higher than what itt should be. Be aware! The bathrooms at this Safeway were absolutely filthy! Disgustingly filthy! The floor looks as if it hasn't been mopped in months. Health risk. If they aren't keeping the restrooms clean, chances are pretty good that it's not the best place to purchase the food that you plan to ingest. read more

I wish I could boycott this store. I keep praying Bashes cleans up or they open a Sam's Club or Costco in Payson. They know there's no competition and price way higher than in the valley. The produce is terrible quality. Digital coupons are the worst thing they have ever come up with. Just put it on sale stop wasting everybody's time sifting through the BS. Not to mention half the time it doesn't even apply the discount, so you spend another 1/2 hour double checking your receipt. It shouldn't take 3 f***ing hours to go grocery shopping!!! read more

I went into the bakery to order my 4yo daughter's birthday cake. She wanted a peppa pig "muddy puddles" cake. The baker informed me that they didn't have any peppa pig figurines but offered if u had some that they could make it. I ordered the figurines and came in to make my order, and let me tell you it came out GREAT! So happy with the customer service and product! This will be my go to in Payson for these things from now on! read more

I just popped into the Payson Safeway to grab a few things for dinner with my family. They had exactly what I needed and I was appreciative of that! Here's where it gets frustrating... the guy behind me in line was in a hurry & was well within 6 ft. There were no dividers & some of my items were still on the belt when he asked the cashier if he could go ahead & put his stuff on the belt. The cashier replies with a proud "I don't give a damn!" as if there wasn't a pandemic. I did let Chris the Cashier know that immunocompromised people like me give a damn. He backpeddled (insert shock). The Payson Safeway has resigned itself to little more than a Petri dish. Also, masks are optional in this store despite a city ordinance & signage all over the place. I was a member of Safecl/Vons for almost 20 yrs and today first time in my life I had super horrible and unacceptable experience. We stopped by at their gas station to fill 2 our Penske trucks. Then we decided to go inside of their store to use restroom and buy some groceries. We had 2 kids with us. The guy who work at their gas station came to us and started yelling and screaming so loud at us in front of my daughter and complaining why we blocked his pumps. When I asked him why he is yelling at us he raised his voice is much louder by yelling that he needs space for his customers. I told him that we are his customers as well. Excuse me, we just spent lots of money to buy gas there and lots of money to buy groceries inside. Then he yelled again and said: GET OUT FROM HERE. What a horrible customer service. Why management is allowing their employees to act with their clients like this? When I asked that person what was his name, he said Joe, but I saw different name on his name tag. This place doesn't deserve even 0 stars. My daughter was shocked and scared when this employee was screaming and yelling at us. read more

This is strictly for the Starbucks inside this store. Charged 26 cents for a cup of water, even though we were ordering other items. I use to live in AZ, didn't realize they could charge for water. The restaurant I worked for in the valley, was told it's illegal. I've been to Starbucks locations around the country, some in grocery stores and stand alone ones....NEVER been charged for water. Tacky. Service was also subpar. Complete opposite to the stand alone store across the street. read more

Dealing with a pharmacy is sometimes difficult, with this one it is like getting a root canal. Urgent care in Payson sent a prescription to the Payson Safeway pharmacy on 260, one hour later I show up to pick it up. I wait in line tell the assistant my name and that it had been sent in by the urgent care, she looks here and there then consults with the person that processes these orders. The assistant then tells me nothing has been received. I call urgent care they assure me it was sent and will send it again. I wait a short time get back in line, once again nothing received and that their computers had crashed earlier. When I ask if I go get a written prescription could they expedite filling the scrip, I was told no it would be at least two hours. Super customer service Safeway. NOT! Now I know why I shop at Fry's. read more

This review is really just for the Starbucks inside Safeway. I have only visited the other parts to the store once and it's the typical overpriced grocery store. Not worth it for essentials. So really, we only stop here while traveling through Payson since it's one of the only options for coffee that doesn't taste like flavored water. For a caffeine fix, it does the job. But seeing as it's the only Starbucks you'd think they'd have more than one or two people on shift at a time. It always takes forever, whether there is a long line or not. It's a bummer that they close at 8 PM, got there at 8:05 on a Friday, guess we were just out of luck. Extended hours could be a huge money maker for them, especially during the camping season. At least we got it on the way back through Payson. But then the pricing was off. My husband and I got the same thing, his iced and mine hot, and they were different prices. Never experienced that before, not even at a Safeway Starbucks. It was just kind of strange. read more

Floral Department-Fantastic. Brenda was very helpful when I called, she really came through with her promised arrangements. In discussing what I wanted with her, I felt very confident in her abilities. I called far enough ahead of my function so that she could order what was needed, I trusted her judgement about what type of flowers to use, just told her the color scheme and my budget. The end product exceeded my expectations for about 1/4 the cost of other florists in town. read more

I just finished shopping at the Payson store. Once again when I returned to the car and checked my receipt there was an error. So I had to go back in and get it corrected. This was not the first time. They advertise that if you but 4 you get a reduced price. So the tags on the items don't match what is in the register. So when you think you have selected the right items according to the ad and the signs you don't get the reduced price. Since the reduction doesn't come off until the end, you can't catch it when they are scanning it. So, people beware. Look at you receipt carefully! read more

Right off the freeway so it's convenient whenever I take road trips and need to pick up some groceries while passing through Payson. Decent wine selection and like that they have a Starbucks inside. This Safeway has the most amazing Bakery! Even when we shop at 1 of the other 2 stores in town we cross the highway to buy 7 grain bread, Falones, (or is it Filones?) and Almond Poppyseed muffins! The gourmet cheese & wine section rival any specialty store in the valley. Their fresh flowers are reasonably priced & even though they promise a week of freshness we find that they last AT LEAST 2 as long as I trim them & change the water every few days. The service is exceptional as well. We have lived in Payson for 9 years so this review is not based on a couple of visits! Whether you are passing through or live in Payson, they are definitely worth checking out! read more

Bathrooms were dirty and not kept up. One of the stalls had a toilet tank lid that didn't fit looked like it was falling off. It smelled like urine. They did have soap and towels which was good. Hard place to take my little girl to use the potty though. read more

This review is not for the Safeway, but for the Starbucks inside the Safeway. We stopped there twice, once on the way to, and once on the return trip from New Mexico. The first stop was nothing special, though the place was overly busy. The return visit was a disaster. During this stop I dealt with a "barista" Shioban who was quite possibly the rudest person behind a counter. I ordered two drinks, one tall, and one venti passion fruit tea...both sweetened. I was greeted with a heavy sigh and an eye roll. After receiving both drinks and tasting them I realized neither were sweetened like I requested. Instead of dealing with the Queen of Distain, I informed the other barista that neither of the teas had been sweetened, and was quickly informed that the sugar was on the counter around the corner. I had to request that she sweeten them with simple syrup from behind the counter. This is where Shioban pushed the limits of my patience. As I was finally about to have the teas I ordered sweetened, she yelled across the counter "I put 3 pumps in that one and 5 in the other"...and instead of honoring my request to sweeten the damn tea I ordered the second "barista" handed me back my tea unaltered. At this point I had to ask for honey...and then ask for more than one packet to sweeten my own tea...I left SMH, and dismayed that two simple teas could be this difficult. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a Starbucks. read more

Used to really appreciate this store...not so much any more. Since Safeway was bought out by the group that also owns Albertson's the entire dynamic of this store has changed. The prices are outrageously high!! If an item is not on sale it is at least 2x higher than Walmart. I've also noticed the selection of items is greatly diminished I.e. very, very small selection of canned vegetables. They no longer carry items they used to have and that I'd been buying for years. I still buy all my produce here since they seem to have the best in town. The same goes for the majority of my meat purchases. For the past 5 years the toilet tank in the handicapped stall has been without a tank top. Please put in a new 16 1/2" high toilet in this stall...I'm sure you can afford it since your prices are so high! read more

The floors in this store are filthy. Been in various times of the day and night and spill stains and dirty by the Starbucks entrance. The table to sit at by Starbucks is messy and dirty floor. There is an area with tables to sit by deli, but tables need wiped and dirt and grime all over floor and corners and pieces of food laying around. Went to tables out front and all filthy. Had to take cart sanitizing wipes and do somebody else's job to sit down. Just hose them off. read more

I went into the Safeway this morning to buy some endive that I had seen on a cooking show. It showed an almost "stalk like" greenery that was suggested as a healthy alternative for dipping in a salad spread. I asked "Rick" if they had endive and he doesn't budge but says it is next to the radishes. What was next to the radishes was not something at all like the endive I was looking for (apparently there are many varieties). Rick then says "Do you not know what endive is?" in very SNOTTY voice. I explain to Rick what I am looking for and he informs me that he has been working in produce for 16 years and he KNOWS what endive is. I google it on my phone which shows a clear picture of what I am looking for and it is NOT what he is showing me and he continues being rude and snotty. Needless to say, i left my grocery cart in the aisle and went across the street to Bashas. I wonder how many of Rick's 16 years has been putting away groceries from disgruntled former customers! read more

Can't believe the negative postings - "Katie E" where do you normally shop that has lower prices on quality items??? and "Charity" you have the nerve to complain about "free restrooms" - have you ever bought anythere there are do you just partake of free services and then complain? I am sure they will miss your gracious free use of their toliets -- NOT!! Safeway is a little more expensive than Walmart but huh??? it's a no brainer - you get what you pay for! At one time this was a dirty / shabby Safeway but over the last few years they have done an awesome job of making this in to a flagship store! Great Floral Service (yeah Sue), Great Bakery, Great Butcher, Super Liquor selection (even better selection than the Store in Las Sendas in Mesa) - SUPER PRODUCE department (and the produce Manager Michael is incredible and willing to do special orders)! Only flaw is there are a couple of cashiers that are regular chatty Cathy's and while I appreciate the friendliness - when there are long lines it can be a drag! They've even got a secret weapon named "RON" that helps our bagging (and a little of everything else) and serves an an incredible "Good will ambassador!" Keep up the good work!!!! read more

This safeway was decent. I go there every now and then from Yuma with my wife and 2 sons. The bakery has good product, the manager named Anne or something has a serious attitude problem. Produce is always top notch. The cashiers are friendly although they can talk up a storm. However, my review is for Starbucks. For some reason when I come in, this older woman with Glasses named Shoben or whatever her name is is always taking down the orders. She wrote my drink down wrong so it was made wrong and all she does is stand there and talk and goof off and when you don't indulge her in her horse playing, she becomes short and crude with you. I stood in line for 5 minutes just to hear her joke and laugh the entire time, "you got it sista!" Done brotha!" "I hear that!" She is a joke of a starbucks worker. The last time my wife was here alone a week ago while my sons and I grabbed food, she talked to my wife like she was stupid because she couldn't read Macchiato right seeing as my wife doesn't normally order and was impatient and she was trying to get my wife out of line as soon as possible. Then, when my wife had ordered for the both of us, this woman clinched her jaw repeatedly as she was writing on our cups and she rolled her eyes to the woman standing next to her. How rude! Then she whispered something to said woman who laughed and my drink was made with decaf. I can't imagine who hired these two woman but they had to have been the most easily deceived employers known to man for hiring a woman who has the worst customer service skills ever and a coworker who encourages her. From now on, I'm going to Bashas starbucks even though I hate bashas , just because that old bitchy woman works there. I would rather get coffe from the circle k then this Shoben. read more
