I don't frequent large chain grocery stores very often, but this is one that I'd visit any time I wanted a snack, prescription, a Starbucks or a needed ingredient. The parking lot is ample. The location is convenient. The employees are friendly. The selection is decent. They could use self-checkouts though because dropping by for a snack shouldn't result in a 5-minute wait to buy 1 item. read more

Always great food, great service, clean, and laid out well. Checkout is generally fast, when enough checkouts are open. I love that this place has other things I use like my bank and Starbucks. The outside area is usually clean and well set up. There are always samples, which I find a lot of stores don't do anymore. The little bar in the back is great to try some stuff - the staff and people who stop there are nice. I've gone two or three times. That said, the bartenders don't take tips! I wish they'd let them because there are some great folks there. I'm hoping they are paid very well. It's strange not to tip and I really like to tip extra for great service because I've been there.. smelling like beer after a long shift of socializing and standing up! read more

I just had one of the worst grocery shopping experiences of my life here. I've shopped here 1-3 times a week for the past 8 years & I'm not going back if I can avoid it. This is the closest & most convenient grocery store to my house. I went here the most in the past because of convenience, but never because they had the best selection. I was grabbing some quick dinner items on my way home & at checkout I was embarrassed that I forgot my wallet. Nobody was in line behind me, so I asked if I could I run out to my car to grab it. I didn't have my wallet, but luckily had my checkbook. My bill was only $44. I wrote a check, but she wouldn't let me use my check without ID. I've literally checked out with this same woman at least 50 times & she makes a comment on my last name every time as "Doolittle" isn't very common. I asked for a manager "override" & the manager (Dan N.) came over and said no. Ok, so a place I've been a regular at for 8 years won't let me use a check for a $44 bill. I took a breath because I was pretty embarrassed at this point, and asked her if there was anything else we could do. She told me would put my groceries to the side while I ran home to grab my ID. So, reluctantly I did exactly that. I live 5 minutes away so I was back within 15 min. I came back with my wallet (ID, cash & cards), and asked them what they wanted me to do...pay up front or at same register. They all looked dumb founded because my groceries were gone. They started pointing fingers about somebody putting them away. I had to laugh at this point, but I started walking out. I was not treated as a loyal customer, the manager did not make an effort to help, and there was no apology at the end. As I was walking out I saw the same manager (Dan N.) and let him know my groceries weren't up there, I shop there multiple times a week, but I'm never going back again. He had not reaction, no apology, and did not try to do anything. It was like he was half asleep and had no reaction at all. I drove up the street to Albertsons right after and purchased the same groceries. With all the big data grocery stores have on us I wonder what it takes to acquire another frequent & loyal customer like myself. Additionally, they use all this personal shopping data they collect on us to market, but they don't treat a loyal customer with any kind of special service or consideration? Hate is such a strong word.. I try not to use when I its not really called for. When I set out to Yelp the Safeway across the street from me and the Mr.'s place I thought of using that word to describe how much I don't like this Safeway. Of course it's warranted, they pissed me off! Okay you know how they always do BOGOF on milk.. well me and the Mr don't drink that much milk so the cashier usually just gives me half off the 1 gallon. Well this time she forgot to and I didn't notice until I got home.. so seeing that I used to shop here once a week I figured Id just bring my receipt back the following week. Well the following week I went in and showed the receipt and the dumb bitch behind the counter was like, 'what am I supposed to do about it?'.. I explained to her what usually happens as the cashier gives it to me for half off.. she then proceeded to ask me which cashier was doing that, 'it's not our policy.' After going back and forth for a few minutes I finally just told her to give me my 2 bucks.. she told me if I would have brought them the receipt back the same day they would have done something about it. Are you f-ing kidding me? Whats the difference besides my being inconvenienced having to drive back there. So I finally asked her if she was willing to lose a potential lifetime customer over 2 bucks? She responded, 'there's nothing I can do for you.' I then told her that her customer service skills suck and that I will NEVER return to the store. I guess never say never since I went into my very much disliked Safeway the other day. Believe it or not they make a pretty damn good sandwich and I despise Subway. So the 2 stars are for the yummy sandwich and the super cute guy who made it! So much for my convictions?! read more

Yes I am reviewing a Safeway. I swear I have my reasons: THE Safeway Café. I told my boyfriend that we should pick up Subway on the way home and once he realized the Subway by my house was next to Safeway, he said, " We should go to the sub bar in Safeway!" I retorted, "Whhhhhhhattttt???!!" Needless to say he proved me wrong. You can get any kind of sub with 6 different kinds of bread. They put lots of meat on the sub so you won't feel jipped. The meat is of very high quality compared to most sub joints (my Italian sub had prosciutto on it). Also, your chicken breast is actually recognizable as a chicken breast and not some weird chicken breast composite. The customer service is always great and friendly. They didn't even mind my indecisiveness...I hate it when I am like that. Also, after you buy 7 subs, you get the 8th one free! The subs only cost $4.99-5.49 and you can add on a drink and a pretty large bag of chips (the 2.5servings- size) for only a $1!! This of course doesn't compare to DeFalco's, but if I am in a hurry and just picking up something quick at the store this is a great option...and much better than Subway, Jimmy John's, Quizno's, Blimpie's etc. read more

Customer service is #1 here. The hours are great and the food/groceries are always fresh. If the prices are wrong they fix it and honor the ticket price. I popped into Safeway today to grab some fruit to make fruit salad and some wine. It started as a simple trip but as I shopped the wine I decided now was time to step up my game and take them up on their 6 bottle deal because really, that's a steal. After that I headed to get some fruit, I was on the fence on whether or not to get a real pineapple or sliced and then I realized that I know nothing about picking out a pineapple. I asked the produce guy how to pick a pineapple and he was awesome! A wealth of information, even taking the time to help me pick one, giving me advice on ripening fruit fast. Did you know that bananas ripen faster in the bunch? I didn't! I wish I got his name.... I paid and was happily on my way home. On the journey from my car to my house, the wine holder gave out from the bottom and I lost 3 bottles of wine! 3 bottles!!! I took a deep breath and called the manager, hopeful but not assuming, and asked if they could replace the wine. The manager I spoke with was very sympathetic and kind, telling me to bring the receipt and they would take care of me. WOW! Just like that! I went back (with my own reusable bag) and they replaced my wine, no questions asked. Thank you Safeway! I'll be toasting to you tonight! read more

I called the store this week because I needed to have a plastic wrap put over a gift basket I'm donating to a charity event at Christmas Eve I asked if they would be able to do that she said they would and told me to come in and talk to the person in the floral shop I came in but they were out of the wrap and I was told to come back in a few days She tried to sell me other things that I didn't want and I told her what I wanted and she finally let up and said come back I was not treated very kindly by the woman in the shop but I decided to come back again anyway I came back again today and she remembered me and I told her what I wanted that it was going to be for a charity event that needed the gift wrap on it I gave her all the items in the basket and told her she could rearrange it a little bit she said don't you have any other shopping to do she didn't want us around so we went and took care of a couple things and we came back I also had asked her to put tissue paper in the bottom so not to hide the items When we returned she did not put the tissue paper on the bottom but shoved it all the way around the sides of the items to cover half the items so you cannot see what the items are A $100 worth of items for this event people are going to be bidding on hidden partially and I wouldn't see half of what was in there yet that was a large value so there's no way that the bids will come up to $100 I was also not impressed that she did not give me back all of my tissue paper or use all of it I asked if we could open it up and rearrange things that you could see Yes she opened it telling me it was shrink wrapped and it was going to ruin everything she shoved her hand in there moved a few things around it tied it up again she never thanked us for coming very unfriendly very moody very poor customer service I am very unhappy with the package I am not going to be putting it together myself at home after paying her $10 to do it This person was not willing to do this and take care of us she should never have said she would do it and the store should've never told me they would accommodate us I've wasted a lot of time and energy and now I have a package and I need to take care of it myself anyway I'm very unhappy about it as it's been a lot of time purchasing these items and trying to stay within $100 I've been allotted by my group to make this a special basket for this particular event I feel we should be refunded the $10 that it cost us to pay her to do nothing for us but give us a bad attitude Thank you very much Patricia Brooks 480-250-5556 please text me if we can pick up $10 dollars at the store read more

This is a little funny. I never actually thought I would be taking the time to review a grocery store. But, after seeing that there are several other reviews posted, I don't feel so weird anymore.  The only reason I'm reviewing THIS particular Safeway store, is because it is the one I've had the most positive experiences at. For the most part, the staff is friendly and helpful (minus the Customer Service desk). It seems that there's rarely one around to be found when I'm in a hurry and just happen to need assistance.  My favorite areas of this store are: the floral shop, which usually has a great selection of fresh arrangements, vases, and potted plants. I've had great experiences with the friendly and helpful florists on many occasions too. The Starbucks (West side of the store) because it's very convenient. Unless a sour-faced girl who's been there the longest is behind the counter. She NEVER smiles and always looks as though customers are bothering her.   Most of the cashiers are friendly. They actually acknowledge and greet you.  Unlike at some of the other Safeway locations I've been to. This store location was only about 3 minutes down the street from me, so it was very conveniently located. It looks even nicer now that it was remodeled and expanded. I moved to N. Phoenix a few months back, so I miss this location. Noticeably better than the other three locations I have visited near my new home.  The only thing I found truly annoying was the parking lot. Why was it usually so crowded when I needed to just go in, quickly pick up a couple of things and get out? Ugh!  Trying to find a spot near the entrance and deal with the slow moving seniors and rude patrons, often tested my patience. If I happen to be in the area, I will try to stop at this location instead of the ones near my home. * One reviewer said that their deli sandwiches are "better than Jimmy John's".  LOL  No! Sorry to disagree with you.  Another one just made me laugh outloud at the ridiculousness of not easily finding the bar inside the store. Seriously??? I'm not even a drinker and yet I would always spot it, when I was in the produce section or the meat section, which was often.  She stated: "my friend and I had a hankering for alcoholic beverages.." "hankering"? Well, maybe they already had a few... LOL Poor Rhett Doolittle. I felt bad for him. I don't blame him one bit... I would never want to return either, if I had that bad of service. That is no way to treat any customer! Especially, a frequent and loyal one. Shame on that employee! Sounds like she needs some serious CS training, or shouldn't be there at all. read more

Nice, clean, large grocery store with great variety, good sale prices, lots of registers (regular and self-checkout) and a nice layout. All in all, an excellent local grocery store - perfect for weekly shopping, quick stop-ins and weird recipe ingredients. They have really great service - the manager cracked jokes as he helped me find what I was looking for, the deli counter guy was super helpful when I was deciding between varieties of Swiss cheese, and the checkout people are efficient (and they don't have that wish-I-were-anywhere-else look, either - they're nice). The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that there are some suuper fancy, newly remodeled stores that are just a tiny bit nicer. I'm so glad we live near such a great store! read more

By far the best Safeway I have been to! For a Canadian, the Scottsdale store knocks our local stores out of the park. This location has been recently renovated and expanded. It now has a large liquor section, complete with just about anything you could imagine and yes, even a tasting bar! They have a large produce section, with plently of organic choices. As part of the renovation, they also relocated Starbucks and expanded their seating area. Grab a coffee and the paper, and relax in their lounge, watching TV or sitting in front of the fire. Overall this store is not overly hectic or crowded, and they have very friendly staff. It's my go-to grocery store when I'm in Scottsdale. read more

Didn't matter if people were following the signs, there was still potential to have people clustered in certain spots. 6 or 7 people picking out coffee, or 10-11 on another aisle. Knee jerk solution. He's helped me save hundreds of dollars in wine over the past few months! Also, I've found a few new favorites. If I could give it less than one star, I would. I used Safeway grocery delivery for years and loved it but their customer service has gotten terrible in the last six months. They constantly arrive late - sometimes more than 2 hours late. Two weeks ago, they only brought half my items. The delivery driver shrugged and walked away without any apology or acknowledgment of the issue. I was on hold with customer service for almost an hour and they finally reluctantly reimbursed me for the missing items. No apology, no offer to redeliver, just a credit to my account that took 3days for them to process. I have sent emails and called to complain and have received no response at all other than an automated message. No apology, no offer to make things right. They simply don't care about their customers. I am boycotting Safeway and getting the word out there about my experiences. read more

Today is my first time using this pharmacy. I had my Doctor switch all my prescriptions to this store and already I'm sorry.Woman who answered the phone put me on hold for 10 minutes then the phone disconnected. I called back 4 times just to get SOMEONE to answer to see if my script was ready. Some lady with an accent answered and I must say she was rather rude. Come in half hour, I fill your prescription.....went there 2 hours later NOT READY.....good thing I'm not in pain....looks like I'm going to go back to Costco....little farther to drive but worth the NO hassle..... read more

I stop here pretty regularly on my way to work and the wonderful ladies at the counter are always so sweet and delightful {even at 6:30 AM!}. There are about 10 Starbucks along my route to work but these ladies have me coming back time after time! One of my usual shopping places. I prefer Trader Joe's or AJ's, but I do like this particular Safeway location. It has better decor than most I have seen. They also have a great selection of wine, and other spirits. Plus, the Safeway deli sandwiches and ready to eat meals/soups are fantastic. Try their selection of pre-breaded ready-to-cook fish fillets too - Yum! Their recycling bags are nice and only $1 each. read more

The nice woman approached me, shared their flower selections, asked some good qualifying questions. And when i decided to get two sets of flowers, she made a nice bouquet out of them, some ribbon. I shopped twice here yesterday. Typically, I really like this Safeway. Their organic produce section has increased a lot over the past few years and overall, their produce is great and their staff are helpful and friendly, the deli is fantastic for parties. But yesterday, I just happened to shop for two items involving nuts, and both were rancid! Awful smelling. First, the large bin sunflower seeds are rancid and need to be removed. I went back later in the day to get a gift item for my elderly mom. I selected a can of Almond Roca, took it to her assisted living, handed it out after she opened it, and all her friends spit it out. The entire can easily rancid because the candies are covered with nuts. Do better Safeway!! read more

Very disappointed by the meat department today (4/3 around 6pm). All of the steaks were huge so I asked the butcher boy to cut a smaller piece of a steak. He did reluctantly as if I was asking something extraordinary. Anyway I just needed one half (still 0.69 pounds for just one half!). The butcher said this is not something that they normally do, but that they "will let it slide this time". And no, he was not joking! What a way to deal with customers! I told him this is not normal to sell pieces this big. I hope the store manager will read this. Forcing customers to buy more than they need, well... will force them to shop somewhere else... I am not obese and don't plan on becoming by eating 1.5 lbs steaks! read more

My friend and I had a hankering for some alcoholic beverages... you know that feeling. you know. Anywho, we head over to the newly renovated Safeway and I tell her that there is a bar somewhere, although I apparently keep missing it. Must be some CS Lewis passage you got to walk thru to find it. Maybe it was desire for vodka that allowed us to discover the liquor section. But we found the drink we wanted and lo and behold, there was bar. I believe we were verbally assaulted by the bartender, awesome. Seriously, awesome... Today I went back to Safeway for a refund on an overcharge, third time this month. I like this store because it is clean and well stocked, but their sale prices on the shelves frequently do not get picked up by the scanners at the register. When I find the overcharge, inevitably at home, I return to the store, take a picture of the sale price at the shelf, then I take my receipt and picture to customer service, where they are usually friendly when refunding my money. Who knows how many shoppers never notice these overcharges. For me, I just wish they would get their pricing correct, between the sale price signage and the checkout scanners, so I wouldn't have to return so often for refunds. read more

First time here and will probably be coming back. First, I like that it has some shaded parking. Second, the store was brightly lit with lots of friendly workers helping customers. I saw the workers leading customers to what they were asking for which I rarely see at any grocery stores! I also liked that there were a lot of sales/deals--but I went during 4th of July so the sales probably coincided with that (ie 74 cents lays chips--yes please!). Safeway has an app so I had some other coupons like $5 off $50 purchase and free items! Except most of the free items or really on sale items, like 25 cent personal watermelon, were all out of stock:( that's kinda the only reason it didn't get five stars from me-- a bunch of items weren't stocked. I get it was busy for the holiday but the store should be prepared for that, right? They do have the posted arrows for each aisle but most people didn't follow it. Masks are required for entry, but I saw a few people just pull it down as soon as they were in the store lol the cashier that checked me out was super friendly and chatty asking me about my day and stuff. She even offered sanitizer to me after she finished ringing up. Afterwards, I noticed that I was charged for my potatoes (I had a coupon for free 10 pound bag but I got a 5 pound bag) so I went to customer service to ask for a refund and they gave it to me cheerfully in cash. I was expecting it back on my card but cash works lol. I thought that was really good customer service that rivaled Whole Foods:) read more

This Safeway has been remodeled a couple of years ago. They added a large wine and liquor section and a bar! The place is always very clean and well stocked with organic and regular vegetables and fruits, an isle with international products, fresh meats and fish, and a great bakery! There is a selection of ready made fresh food that includes chicken, potatoes, salads, and even sushi made fresh all day long. They have a Starbucks and a large dine-in area with TVs. There is also an area with couches if you prefer to drink your coffee there. Their flower section is large and has a great variety of flowers, plants and arrangements at very good prices. Plenty of covered parking too! read more

If I had stayed in the checkout line to buy one item, it would have been expired by the time I left the store. Bring back self check out. If t was removed because guests couldn't navigate it, hire someone to help them. This floral department sucks. As someone who worked and has been a loyal customer to Safeway's throughout the valley I was more than dissatisfied by the floral department today. I bought a flower arrangement from another Safeway yesterday. The hospital wouldn't allow flowers so we waited to take them until today. When baby was able to go home. Those flowers had wilted. I went to my nearest Safeway (the one on chaparral) and the two women working in the floral section were full of attitude. When I approached they informed me they could not refund or let me exchange my arrangement. I then followed THEIR advice and bought new flowers. I went back with BOTH my receipts and they shrugged me off saying I needed to pay another fee to have them throw away the first arrangement and use the already bought mason car for my new flowers. I only wanted to celebrate my newest nephew and was basically shooed off. No, recommendations were made nor did I feel heard. Will not be returning. I hope these two women can be more compassionate and understanding and better at letting people hear their needs. Especially in working in the department that goes hand in hand with such special occasions. What if I had been there grieving? Smh. read more

The store on Chaparral almost always overcharges to the point where I am going to contact a government agency next time. 4 times the meat department has overcharged off the stated prices. This week, they overcharged for olive oil. I NEVER buy more than a few items at this sore to keep an eye out for the overcharging . On the plus side, when I catch them overcharging, the cashiers are VERY NICE about adjusting the price without hesitation. Several months ago my local Safeway gave away black recycling bags with goodies as a TV promo. I tossed the junk food & coupons but kept the bag in my car. I use it at TJ's & Sprouts to save plastic and paper bags. I would like to see one or more of the grocery chains repeat the give-away with no commercial logos except for the recycling emblem on Earth Day April 22. As far as my local Safeway goes I am there at the crack of dawn most mornings for my tall drip at the inside Starbucks. This Safeway is relatively small but fits my day to day "emergency" needs. For my "special" needs TJ's and Sprouts receive more than half of my grocery budget... read more

I live closer to the Basha's and Fry's in the same area, but always go to the location for groceries since they have an in-house Wells Fargo and I can kill two birds with one stone when I need some groceries. They have a great selection of everything you need, with great prices. Their liquor and deli sections are probably the best out of the supermarkets in the area as well. The only thing I wish I could find was large bags of frozen chicken breasts. For some reason, either they don't carry it or I can't find it. Oh, well... read more
