It's a good place to shop for groceries and other household stuff. It's a relatively large Safeway, mostly well stocked compared to others in the area. We go here usually after 8PM, it's mostly pretty empty and we are able to get our shopping done quickly. They have sanitized carts, hand sanitizer etc available. The workers are pretty helpful in the store. Definitely recommend this Safeway! read more

I only came here to use the DMV kiosk to instantly receive my registration and sticker. There is a catch though- DMV will charge you 2% for using a credit card. I didn't mind because when I paid online it took 2 months and a phone call to receive my stuff because of the Covid pandemic. I shop very often when I lived in Sunnyvale. Now just once a while if i go to the next store Petco. Yesterday i shopped at Safeway but was not good experience cashier name CHRISTOPHER, he's seem young, not friendly! When i was at register i brought my own bag, and he did not even try to help me to put away my groceries in my bag but just watching me and did not do anything! While people inline waiting. Clearly this location has struggled with basic customer service for many months by seeing all the comments, and mine will not be any different unfortunately. Came in a couple of weeks ago on their so called Re-Opening day and was met by some pretty awful service by your corporate folks, surprisingly. Starbucks service, cashier service was honestly one of the worst service I've experienced at any Safeway. Let's start with your Corporate folks speaking Spanish about management with clerks is very unprofessional and inappropriate. Starbucks employee ignoring customers while gossiping with the corporate folks. No greeting, no eye contact, no acknowledgement or apology for making me wait at least10 minutes until I asked for her attention and got attitude followed by her moving slower than molasses. Word of advise to the Store Manager, District Manager and Corporate- your re-grand opening was a fail from the service perspective. You should probably retrain, hold your employees accountable or help them be successful somewhere else because its obvious they are not happy there. I won't bother you with my lengthy management, customer service and corporate level experience including big box store openings. Not sure how long this Safeway has been here. I was there on a Sunday evening. I believe the store was in the preparation mode. Everyone was working to get shelves stocked. I saw a lot of things were falling apart. I hope they'll put them back before sunrise. This is the 2nd Safeway won't accept my rewards card reader on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phone. I have a special app called Beep'n Go but I had to increase the screen brightness to maximum. Thanks to a couple of smart young cashiers. One said, "it's one of those again." I thought he saw me carrying a Randall's card. The entrance was funky. It appeared to have 2 sets of double doors. But don't walk in so fast. You'll find it the hard way. The middle of 2 doors is a metal beam. So, it's technically 4 single doors. I love the cheese gallery. They have so many different cheeses to choose from. So does the floral shop. I found a good looking bouquet for a friend before I left town. It's nice to have a 24/7 grocery store next to 24/7 gym and 24/7 ATM. I think we need is a 24/7 clothing store. After eating and workout, you'll need bigger or smaller clothes, you know. read more

This safeway has a habit of posting handwritten notes on their doors saying they are closed when the website and the official signage on the door says it is open 24/7. These notes inconsistently say when they will open, IF they say at all. It seems to be at their discretion and willy nilly if they will be open or not. Hit or miss. It has happened to me 5 times now. The last time an employee came out and told the people outside it opened at 6:30am. The previous time before that a sign said they are closed till 4am. Just this last time it just said in crudely in pen on a piece of printer paper that its closed with no indication of when it will be open. Corporate really needs to know about this. read more

Apparently they take the weekends off and assign a poor scanner who not only has to scan your grocery's and hear your complaints. This Safeway location is right next door to 24 Hour Fitness Sunnyvale Supersport for convenient shopping. Shockingly enough, I had never popped in until tonight! Boy, was I surprised... 1. Oh my gosh! The rows and rows of Safeway Select ice cream flavors put our local Safeway to shame. I saw the Seasonal Gingerbread, a butterscotchj ice cream with oatmeal cookie, and some type of toffee ice cream with other mix ins that I have never ever seen at our local Safeway. Also, they carried brands of ice cream that our Safeway doesn't even have. The frozen foods section in general was ginormous! 2. Most Safeway locations carry candy from The Sweet Factory in their bins. But, this Safeway locations does not. They had a couple types of coated pretzels and mixes I had never seen before!!! This is saying a lot considering the extensive number of grocery stores and bin locations I have visited. 3. Lots of cereals! They had the Fiber One Honey Squares I have been looking everywhere for! 4. I also bought a melon. Very few supermarkets seem to carry ripe melons offseason! But, I managed to find a good one here and it was only $2.45 at the Club price. It was a bit expensive at 1.29 a pound and somehow came out to over $4! But, fortunately, the Club card made it much more affordable. This Safeway is not necessarily upscale, but its size makes it so great because it has room to carry so many products! When you are on a search for a specific grocery item, Safeway will probably have it! I didn't even explore the entire store, but I am looking forward to exploring this Safeway for new grocery finds. read more

This might be the best Safeway I've been to. It almost felt like a Whole Foods with their cheese selection and mochi station! Mochi station! Yes! It's one of the largest Safeway's in the Bay Area, and they cater a lot to Boar's Head company which is fantastic, since that's one quality company to partner with. They pretty much have everything you need in terms of food, and then some. I really enjoy this location and wish I lived a little closer as the staff here can really make the experience worthwhile. Linda in the bakery is extremely rude. On Saturday I came into the bakery at 2pm to get a cake made with a picture on it. Immediately she tells me that the printer is broken. This is my favorite Safeway in Sunnyvale. I mainly come here to pick up my prescription medications and they are always on time to deliver. They call me when my medication is ready for pick up. They are a very well organized pharmacy. They always ask around what time will I be picking up my prescription so that they know to have It ready for pick up. I believe the Pharmacist's name who usually helps with my prescriptions is Liam if not his name starts with an L. He's very helpful and always answers all my questions. He helped my transition all my prescriptions from the Safeway pharmacy in Salinas to Sunnyvale which was very nice of him to do because I didn't have to take time out off my busy schedule to do all off that. read more

How can you trust a pharmacist who is willing to tell a lie no matter how small? I called on 12/2/2021 and asked about walk-in for covid vaccinations. The Safeway representative stated that the stopped walk-ins at 5:30 and to come back tomorrow(12/3/2021). So, I arrive at Safeway the next morning and the pharmacy opens up late 9:05 instead of 9:00. Perhaps safeway could improve their digital coupons. I wanted to buy 12 cans of Progresso Soup. It seems you need to scroll thorugh each flavor of Progresso Soup and select how many cans of what flavor and click on it. But the way the different flavors are displayed on the App, it is very inconvenient to match what you have on the app to what is actually available on the shelf. If you have the time and patience, I suppose you could do this. But why can't you just download coupon for progresso soup for any flavor. Why make the customer go through this? Why are the different flavor so randomly distributed on the app. Why make a customer scroll all through the cans. I am not patient enough to expend my time on this. Be careful when you purchase fruit on sale, most of the time its because its starting to go bad and the store wants to get rid of it. 2 boxes of blueberries for 5 bucks yeah sure why not!! looking at which one to pick I see a few with mold on the bottom. I purchased 5 packs of steak and one was brown and smelled awful. I called and asked to speak to a manager, they said okay hold please. Someone else picked up the phone and said hello. This store is wayyyyy to huge and just confuses the crap out of me. I am not a fan of those half isles at all. However due to its size... they have EVERYTHING!! Anything you want... they will more than likely have. My home Safeway is over by SCU and is tiny, so they don't have tons and tons to chose from like this one does. Can be overwhelming for sure. Anyway... we picked up a cake for our friend/co-worker/breast cancer survivor today from the bakery and swear... my 7 year old could have done a better job decorating this cake. Big and clean grocery store.Lots of aisles and options. There are some pros and cons about shopping at Safeway these days - PROs - personalized digital coupons with offers based on individual's shopping behavior. I find this to be extremely helpful for me as I don't have to always wait around for something to go on sale. Safeway is now able to offer me coupons for things I often buy so it's a real plus for me and for them. They are so clever with this addition. - Self-checkout is great! CONs - The same PRO above also has its flaws. Safeway now forces people to have to go through multiple places to find deals. You have the regular weekly sales, the personalized deals and the digital coupons. Now shoppers have to search through different locations and have to manually add the digital coupon deals in order to apply the discounts. Maybe over time the system will be more streamlined allowing better management for the consumers. Other than that, I am happy with Safeway. They are really stepping up in keeping with new technologies in order to stay competitive. Kudos to them! read more

We've been happier with this Safeway lately. They have wonderful fresh French bread. We get it when they announce that it's coming fresh out of the oven. Wonderful! The self-checkout is always a pain, as there are always glitches with the machine thinking something is in the bagging area and you have to move it and get an employee to help sometimes. I've learned to lower my expectations regarding their sandwiches. Their deli section just isn't stocked well. About 1/3 of the time it is sufficient. When it is, it's great. I love that there's a bathroom in the store Starbucks. That's a big draw. Definitely influences our decision to continue shopping here. read more

After the gym, I sometimes stop into this Safeway for my immediate grocery needs. It's big and has a great selection. I can't think of anything I've needed that they haven't had (that can typically be found in an American grocery store). It's a big store so you can plan on quick trips taking a few extra minutes. Most importantly, the alcohol is also on the left by the bread. This place is well stocked, and the prices are reasonable.... like any other safeway. At the beginning of the pandemic, it seemed like they had their act together - multiple lanes open, getting people out quickly, and ensuring that the store wasn't too crowded. Now the lines for open lanes extend all the way to the second half of the store, and two lanes are open with 15 people + in line. LOVE this new Safeway! Spacious, clean, and parking isn't as complicated as the one about a mile down the road. I think the best part is the Starbucks Cafe. It's huge. Plenty of seating and Wifi! This place is expensive. They switched the deli to Boar's Head and everything is at least $10 a pound. If and when they stock Di Stefano burrata it's 11.99 a package and not fresh (WF has had it for 9.99 for the last year). Lines are long thank goodness for sales on Ben&Jerry's and the cheerful checker Kevin or I wouldn't go there at all. 4/13/18 Update* They put a TV in the middle of the waiting area for the deli (you'll definitely be waiting because they only have two employees working the whole prepared foods section at lunch on a Friday) to try to sell more Boar's Head. Seriously annoying listening to the epic ham slicing music looped over and over. You might sell more product if you had more employees present to help the paying customer.
