This used to be my favorite store to shop at. It had the feel of a neighborhood grocery store where everyone knows the checkers names and they know yours. Yes, the prices have always been higher than other stores around but you used to receive amazing customer service so it was worth it. Not anymore. Every time I go in there now the employees are rude, short, abrupt and act put out to help you. They have a ton of self check out lines now and usually one or two actual checkers working. So either you are doing the work yourself or waiting in a long line. It is without fail that something rings up more than it should and I ask the employee working in the self check out line to help. I am usually met with annoyance and a "cant you figure this out" attitude. No, I haven't been trained in your system and don't know the nuances of being a checker. Lets talk about prices. They are over the top more expensive than Winco or Walmart and often, Fred Meyers. They have digital deals but they are a pain in the arse to use and half the time they don't ring correctly at the check out stand. So, why come here? That is the question. Rude employees and high prices. I don't know what has happened with management because the culture used to be kind employees and now, I feel like I would get better service at Walmart, which is saying a lot. I will choose other stores from now on to shop for groceries. read more

This is my nearest market so is always a wonderfully quick stop for pharmaceuticals, and even basics like milk bananas apples, etc. I do not do any of my "big" shopping as the store prices seem quite high for the quality of the products sold, not to mention it's more of a small-chain "corporate" feel. Less than .2 miles north of this Safeway is a fantastic GEM of a grocer by the name of Spud's Produce Market: in this locally focused find they can replenish your growlers with local craft brews, they represent local bakers artisans and farmers (I bought 9 varieties of apples at the end of my last stop), and they have the best intense variety of coolio condiments I had never heard of quite literally went through the store loading my shopping cart to overflowing, and did the same with a second cart... it was like Christmas in November! So sorry, Safeway: my vote will always go to Spuds. Note: I would have assigned only 2 stars so unimpressive and unremarkable the location and what I've seen of "professionalism" among the floor staff, but Safeway Cleveland Ave PHARMACY? As I entered the Trosper Safeway this morning, I noticed the hand spray and wipes (at the entrance) weren't there. A helpful employee mentioned this to a manager. His response was angry & dismissive, saying "they haven't been there for months." The "conversation" ended with him glaring and turning his back. 1) Covid is still with us. Even the president isn't immune. 2) Reinstating sani-wipes would demonstrate care for yours customers. You may have noticed that more customers have returned to face masks. 3) I'm a Vietnam veteran -- not easily impressed by angry faces, "power beards" and condescending manners. 4) Your other store employees are friendly & helpful. 5) It takes me about 10 extra seconds to drive over to Fred Meyer; a larger, better stocked and much friendlier store. read more

Boycotting Safeway. All...but mostly the one located in Tumwater on Cleveland. Been eating their deli chicken almost every day for years 1 breast 1 complementary ranch dip. 1.99 went to 2.29 per breast during Covid times still 1 complementary ranch dip. Today I went and asked for my complementary ranch. Oh no not complimentary anymore...25 cents....why..... Because the company that they were getting their dips from kept delivering opened dips so Safeway was loosing money so now due to the above issue they decided they would charge the consumer for their company's supplier's issue. WTF Safeway ...give me a break Safeway that's really cold and low in my opinion. read more

They now have a chicken wing bar. I can't get enough of it. Salt and vinegar, teriyaki, bbq, buffalo, boneless, and it's all hot and ready. You just take what you want. Prices are really good here generally and they have some good deals every week. It's clean and the staff are usually helpful. I would give it five stars but they don't staff the customer service counter which stresses out the self check staff. They also have a smoking area in front of the store which is very unappealing. read more

high schoolers walking in and out with full cases of alcohol unchecked but ive been falsely accused of stealing twice. (On orders less than $5) employee followed me out to my car and took a picture even though she checked me out? And didnt explain when i asked why. management did not provide a clear explanation either. +1 star for the deli and everyone working it, and the guy that gave me my cash when i forgot it at the self checkout. otherwise really disappointed because i used to go here most days. I understand shoplifting is a problem especially at this location but I had a really uncomfortable experience as a customer. If there was store security this would be much less difficult. an employee shouldn't follow a customer out to their car, especially if they aren't equipped to actually confront me in any way that is meaningful. I have been to many of these stores in my day. Safeway is one of my favorite stores to shop at. This particular store is a wee bit dated. Looks like it hasn't had a facelift since 1982. Isles look like they are dirty and worn. The store front definitely looks aged more than cheddar. Not to mention all the homeless that were hanging around outside (definitely not the stores fault). Cashier was friendly (like most of the Washingtontonians, that we have encountered). Most likely will shop here again, but not really digging this store at the moment. read more

They change procedures at the drop of a hat. I went in to get a covid booster with no appointment one day with no problem. The following day my elderly mother went there to get the same shot. A male pharmacist told her no shot unless you have an appointment. There was no one in line ahead or behind her and it was clear it had been difficult for her to walk to the back of the store. She asked if they could please make an exception so she didn't have to come back again. He said "no exceptions" and their policy had changed the night before. Wow. read more

So as I have learned in my travels to other counties, Thurston County charges for bags. I keep my resuseable bags in the car. For this trip, I was like well I dont need much so im not taking the bags. Well this mistake was i took my partner. 20 mintues later we had quite a few items. Some fruit, icecream, soda, water and snacks. Around 15 items or so. We went through self checkout, no i did not bag my items. Receipt in hand passed by 3 employees, all whom were polite volunteered my receipt and they said have a good day. Got to the door put the receipt away, took out the car keys there was a pause at the door becuae of my partner(parked in front if the store about 3 cars in) and proceeded to bag my groceries in the trunk of my small suv. This employee who was orinally at another checkstand (how do i know?because i already walked by her) i noticed she was watching us at the door. We were near the clearence section and debating on weather to buy a small cooler for the drive back to seattle. The receipt stayed in hand, cart at the foor under the camera (on purpose). Now were almost done bagging and she runs out umm can i see your receipt? My partner questioned her of course. Well its not usual for people to walk out with fulls carts and not bags. (So of courses he exchanged some words with her). He knew this was going on yelp, the monent i started checking the reviews for the location. Its a shame i have to check reviewes for a grocery store now too. Just for clarification if i can fit items into 2 resuseable bags, that is not a cart ful and pretty sure if i choose not to pay for bags its a choice. read more

I go to Safeway at least 3 to 4 times a week and even tho they are more expensive than most stores I still go there, but they have radically changed their beer selection. Once having a bunch of single bottle options to now having 5 choices and the variety sucks. Let's go Safeway step it up. read more

Wow. I wish there was an option to rate ZERO stars. They advertise their "friendly" service, but when my Aunt died suddenly and we were scrambling to figure out how to get to the out of state funeral they charged us for another entire day when we returned our rented carpet cleaner after the rental desk staff had left for the day. Never mind that a manager came over and could have checked it in and thus avoided another rental day fee. And were rude about it. They were the closest store to us so we have kept going there despite having purchased sub par groceries like moldy blueberries, bad olives, and corked wine. Lack of empathy is the last straw. I will really avoid shopping there again. read more

Gross gross gross. Today I bought some ground turkey. Mom and Pops wanted me to come home and make them some of my delicious turkey chili. No prob! .. Except when the meat that's marked Exp 4/11 turns out to be expired!! Opened the package and almost puked. GROSSSSSSS I had to truck it all the way back to the store (like I don't have other things to do??) and exchange it. No apologies or anything! The manager just shrugged and told me to get another one. Is this common practice or something? It's not a problem unless you get caught? I had to sway the line between irritated customer and flaming psycho pissed off customer... rationality won out. I'll be complaining to Safeway HQ.. because this is just gross. Look, I get it, they're trying to save money by having the self check-outs and employing less people. However, it SUCKS. I constantly have issues and need the employee to fix the self check-out. The people are usually by themselves and running ragged. It's awful to see this once neighborhood friendly store turn to crap. Hire more employees and get better produce, Safeway! read more

I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this store, so I'm only giving it 3 stars. Some days it deserves a 1 or a 2. The store itself is very clean, somewhat organized (manageable to navigate) and for the most part employees can be nice and helpful. The cons: This stores employees can be nice and helpful UNTIL you pay with WIC. (Not all, but a majority of employees). I've had so many odd remarks thrown at me and treated different than the times I just used my debit card. Employees also seem to be very untrained with how WIC works. I work at a grocery store. It can be time consuming, annoying and very strict..I get it..but do not question me in odd ways and treat me different. The pharmacy staff is also very rude and impatient. They seem very immature and don't seem to care and even just walking past them I can hear them giving customers a hard time. Rolling eyes, having an attitude and in a rush to get back to joking around with the other employees. Aside from prices being higher than most stores, and not being stocked up (it's all doable) this would be a great store if staff was trained better with WIC or with any assistance, and the pharmacy didn't seem to be taken over by 16 year old boys. read more

Compared to the other Safeways around...this one is the best. Rarely are there long lines, the deli counter is friendly while still being fast, and there is a decent selection of items. Also, there are several self check outs that help things go smoothly. The downside? Since when did Safeway items get so expensive? If Safeway wasn't on my route home they would probably have a smaller chunk of my budget...but after going to the other area Safeways: I'm glad I go to this one. read more

The people working at the pharmacy treat you like your very existence is a problem for them. Every question is met with rolled eyes and prescriptions are no where to be found. The experience of going into pick up medications feels like being called into the principles office. My experience of this place is that they both do not care at all about the experience of the people who come here and almost completely incompetent, treating sick people who need their help to an unpleasant and totally pointless experience. This is a pretty decent safeway. They have a good selection, well too much of a selection for me actually, but their prices are the same stupid standard safeway prices, where everything is expensive unless it's on sale, then it's just average. The bonus about this one is they have cool carts that aren't huge and bulky and they're fun to twirl around with. I love Safeway, but I avoid this store at all costs. The shelves are close together and are really tall, I can't reach some things (and I'm 5'7). The flow of the store doesn't make sense and so it is difficult to find specific things. I hate wondering around to find basic stuff! They don't have a healthy food section, which bothers me bc the West Oly store has a HUGE selection of healthy foods. I think space is the issue here, and I just don't like the selection, OR the prices. read more

I like this Safeway largely because it tends to be more convenient in my life. They are better than some, but not as good as the one in Hawk's Prairie (but that's so out of my way). The customer service is usually better here than any other Safeway in the area (the produce girl Shannara is especially sweet and helpful). I have never had any issue at this Safeway and I sincerely wish the other Safeways in the area would take note of what makes them successful. I wish I could leave a lower rating. When it was just my father and two boys we would have Safeway cater thanksgiving dinner. The food was good and we picked it up hot and ready to eat. No longer the case, I just picked up a fully cooked....however frozen turkey. The directions say to heat up in the oven for 3 to 4 hours.....seriously? Why wouldn't I just cook a raw turkey? The side dishes are no longer prepared in the deli but rather are pre-made side dishes straight out of the freezer aisle. Nothing like TV dinners on thanksgiving. I feel a little odd writing a review of a Safeway store, but I really think this is one of the better supermarkets in the area. I've been to all of the other local Safeways, and this one seems the friendliest and the least crowded. I used to go to the store on Harrison quite a bit, and that one always seemed packed -- as did the one in Hawk's prairie. The Indian Summer store also gets really busy. I'm not sure why, but this store is a slower and more relaxing experience. I'm not big on grocery stores, and I want to get in and out fast. This one works for me. read more

Three weeks in a row I had spoiled food and had to either go back for a refund or toss. The customer service and staff are always super friendly and helpful, and willingly refunded my purchases (plus a gift card, the last time). However, I am disappointed in the quality. The staff in this store are seriously rude and obnoxious. I avoid this store at all cost. We use to go there exclusively and spent $1800 a month there. After 3 bad experiences with rude staff. I had enough. I make a point to take my business elsewhere. QFC, the new Walmart grocery store, Costco are all better choices than this place. They just mark everything up to mark some things down.
