lt's a Walmart so you know what to expect, but it's also my Walmart so I know where everything is. I like checking the Clearance sections because you'll always find some old tech or seasonal items that make you think, "I wasn't planning to get that, but how can I say no to that price). They have a pretty legit electronics area and have things you wouldn't expect, like a glow in the dark neon Roku remote sleeve which I got because it seemed interesting, but my Dad swears by it because bnow it's easy for him to find the remote when he loses it. Avoid using Scan & Go. You are supposed to be able to skip the line at self checkout when you do but I ended up having to wait for the one terminal they reserved for it. Ended up waiting 10 min as they allowed someone with a half full cart to use the terminal reserved for scan & go. Got to watch the self checkout line go by as I waited. Walmart likes to make a big deal about being happy to allow rv parking for one night when traveling. I've tried 5 different locations and they all say no. This location told me yes for one night on the phone. Went there, spent a bunch of money on groceries and stuff to support them and then was told No by someone else. I made the mistake of merely eyeballing the amount of items I had in my cart when I chose to go through the self checkout. As I'm halfway done scanning my things, the register shuts down. The old man working the area proceeds to tell me that loss prevention stopped the transaction because I had too many items in my cart. Mind you, it was very early and there was no one in line and I think I had maybe a few more than 15 things. Definitely not enough items to attract this kind of attention. I had to put everything back in my cart and go to another register. These idiots won't go after shoplifters, but have no issue with humiliating a paying customer. Will not be returning. read more

This is a very good Walmart location. I needed to finish my Christmas shopping and this location one truly one-stop shopping. The staff were incredible, from Debbie who gave me an amazing greeting entering and departing the store, and Ben (I believe that was his name) in electronics that checked me out in his department, so I could avoid the enormous line in the front. I met all of my shopping needs for the year, that included cards and gift. I would definitely shop at this Walmart location again. read more

Last 2 delivery orders were each missing an item I was billed for. Called local "Superstore" multiple times on each occasion with no answer. First time, I went to the store to resolve the problem. Second time I called corporate c/s to get a refund. I think the Tumwater shoppers are just lazy, need more training, and they need to answer the freakin' phones!!!!! Ordered groceries here without any problems. Folks were kind and service was excellent. Inside store was clean and spacious. Staff was friendly. I usually order 2 day shipping from this store if my local WM doesn't have what I need. Only thing I didn't like was the high prices on plants but then again the store is directly across from a Home Depot. Their prices for plants are probably pretty good compared to theirs. Parking lot was non-sketchy which means there wasn't a tent city of homeless folks with bull horns, RVs, transfer trucks etc. Give me a parking lot where I don't have to scan the area like a security camera every few seconds. Make sure you take you shopping bags with you 'cause the ones in the store are only available for purchase. Keep up the great work folks! read more

First and foremost I got followed by the security in an open and bold manner. He felt no need to blend in like the customer. I had been noticing in my recent trips to Walmart that he was following me. I felt victimized and singled out for my brown skin. I could see no other reason. 2. Now I came to the store looking for vacuum filled space saving bags. I picked off the shelf a deal I thought was great which was three Magic bags in one box for the very attractive sale price of $8.97. At this point I still see the security guy watching me . I picked five boxes and walked with intent to complain at the customer service and he had the audacity to follow me there . I reported my "concern" to the lady behind the customer service counter but she seemed as powerless as every Wal-Mart employee seemed to me. I asked to speak to the upper management and now suddenly I see the "iron curtain " drawing to a close because she did not know who the store director was, but she paged the next manager on the floor. 3. While I waited for this manager to hear my sad plight I proceeded to the U scan to pay for my items . Now this was manned by an 4. Associate ". As I scanned my items I was surprised to see that the item rang up got the original price of $12,97. On bringing this to the associates attention , I was told that he was the only person manning the floor so he could not go back to the aisle to verify sale price . He told me to go and take a picture of the tag and then he would override the price, 5. By now the manager who was asked to come and hear my complaint finally arrived and after complaining about the security , and even pointing him out when asked to point him out , I asked her to ask him what was the one thing about me that made him suspicious that I was a shoplifter . He admitted it was a big misunderstanding. 6. I proceeded to register my complaint and my experience with the Ethics and Code of conduct dept where the associate records your narrative and gives you a reference number and supposedly they will send you a letter listing out in detail what steps were taken to improve or correct the situation . 7. I did receive a very general letter that is a standards letter affirming that " my concern" was being addressed. 8. I proceeded to step up the urgency of the manner in which I was treated with the customer Relations department.The first time Agent R took down my complaint , the second day agent K hung up on me. 9. This experience at the Tumwater Walmart showed me a failure of an organization top down , left, down center to deliver the basic exchange of decent behavior between two humans. From the security guy who thought I looked suspicious because of my skin, to the scared associate sitting under the sign of Customer Care" but stripped of all her power, to the all smiling Meaningless floor manager who understood and promised to investigate to the disinterested clerk at the U scan who refused to call out for a check price to the code of conduct department employee who is only trained to press the recording button of voice recorder to record your complaint to the customer relation Agent K who hung up on me when I asked her some hard to respond questions . How can an organization like Walmart tumwater improve when the cancer has eaten away the very core of the human in each one of them. And as for the mistaken price adjustment , it was no mistake it was intentional but I caught it as I know this is a routine practice in Walmart. read more

I'm not sure any Walmart rates above a 3 star, which I think would disappoint Sam Walton. The Tumwater store isn't too bad though. It's large and seemed clean and organized for the most part. Parking would be my biggest complaint. The spots are small and pick-up trucks don't fit. Therefore taking up two spots or parking in the farthest spots (which sucks when it's raining). They definitely tried to make as many spots as they can but this is Tumwater and Washington.... Tons of people drive pick-ups. We have a Chevy Silverado 2500HD, which I wouldn't consider a big truck really, but parking that bitch at the Tumwater Walmart is a challenge. read more

YELP NEEDS TO UPDATE MASKS ARE NOT REQUIRED!! I was not aware that this retailer does not require face masks to be worn. Per Employee M if you are medically exempt, you do not have to wear a mask. I will not be shopping here or at any Walmart again. I also ordered a television online and the whole screen was cracked. I will only be shopping at businesses that require face masks be worn at all times. The woman not wearing the face mask was holding it in her hand!!! Touching things in the store! If she does have it she may have spread it, if not that's still not very sanitary. It is not the proper way to take a mask off... Employee m was very hostile and rude to me. She is okay with this behavior. I don't understand why the woman was carrying her mask everywhere. I have never been treated this easy at any retailer! The employees are few and far between. Checkers are slow as molasses. Self check stole 20 dollars from me and I had to wait forever for them to review the camera footage, meanwhile I had a sick toddler with me. Also, I bought a book my son already had, so I bought the book he needed, and even though my transaction of the first book came straight out of my checking account, they wanted to give me store credit. Maybe I don't want to shop at this trashy store again?! In the end I got my cash back, a whopping 12 dollars because their stupid machine froze up. They had 4 check stands open, the store is visibly busy, my girlfriend and I waited in line for over 20 minutes. Soon it was almost our turn. OUT OF NOWHERE one of the works pushes herself thru the line - LITERALLY MOVES the poor lady in front of out of the way (Just pushes her out of the way) The worker doesn't say A WORD to anybody and slams down a "closed checkstand" sign. Staff are rude. Nothing is ever stocked. You cannot use certain tender for USCAN and they won't tell you until you've stood in line for 15 minutes. You're just supposed to know. Worst walmart ever. I've never been to a more terrible walmart. Before a camping trip, our group of 7 came here to buy some food and we happened to buy beer. Keep in mind that all of us are over 21. We walked together to the queue but decided to wait up front while one of us paid for the bill. The check out person demanded that ALL seven of us take out our ids. It was such a hassle. We all complied and brought out our ids. However, just one person in our group had an expired id and had a renewed paper copy of her license. She had gotten it verified from the department of motor vehicle and even had a cop verify that it was legitimate and useable in the U.S. The lady who checked us out rejected it and said that she couldn't sell us the alcohol because of this. If the police would accept this, why wouldn't the walmart lady accept it? Ridiculous. We asked to talk to a manager and he denied us the right to purchase. My problem is: a) how can you assume that we were all in the same group and then demand to take our id. Did she racially profile us to all be friends just because we were all asians? b) If our friend got back into line and purchased the alcohol without us standing up in front, would that be okay? Or if we just stayed outside? How antiquated and illogical is this Walmart rule? If we were really underaged, do you think all of us would be standing up in front while our friend bought the beer? There are way shady ways around this stupid rule of theirs. Its ridiculous that this happened to our group, especially when we are all in our late 20s and early 30s. I've heard from other reviewers that there are some sketchy activities going on around the back or sides of the building. I haven't seen this yet but if I do I'll amend my review. As Walmarts go this one is a bit average. On one hand you have tired or disgruntled employees and long lines which feel like they take 30 minutes to get through. I'm not really sure anymore of bagging edict because when I used to shop at the Lakewood Walmart they would always bag for us (they also had plastic bags up there). When I bring my own bags I leave them on the conveyor belt and about 50% of the time the checker will start bagging. The other times I end up bagging. The selection at this location is also just so-so at best. In Lakewood the store constantly had a wide verity of foods, movies and toys for my family to choose from. At the Tumwater center things are often sold out or just devoid of any real presence. The movie section often has gaps in it or an uninspired selection. The same goes for my daughter's toys. Conversely I have felt that the store itself is clean. I can't comment on the restrooms as I've never needed to use them. Parking is also not an issue at the Tumwater location. In Lakewood there were always drifters and people living in their campers. Tumwater doesn't seem to have that problem. I suppose with Walmart you win some and you lose some. With a bit more of a diverse selection and some extra checkout lanes this could easily be one of the best Walmarts in the area. read more

They do not know how for the life of them teach their employees, customer service, training how to do the job they get a pay check for, and actually make them work... 1130am today 5-17-20 went only for one reason. To purchase item website said in stock real time and they had plenty. Went to shelf or aisle item was suppose to be at, not there stocked on shelf. Stopped employee with mask on that walked by some dude, asked him where is the item that website is showing in stock real time at, Rude ass employee tells us they don't have item, once it's not in so called area website claims, it's gone, they don't have any more. So we asked employee to use his inventory scanner to scan sku to see if item sitting in back stock room because employees to lazy to stock shelves for weeks... Came up with excuses on why he can't inventory check An item in his scanner and they must not have it. Told him website said they had plenty in stock, it did not say limited stock or out of stock. Had a rude demeanor, told us won't help us so I told him he is useless. This is the fifth dam time employees don't help customers, make up excuses why they can't hunt down an in stock item for you, then has a dam attitude with customer. Employees getting a free pay check to be "useless" walking around a store all day doing nothing Do not shop at this Walmart or any of them!!!! Stupid store managers should care about Lazy employees only hired to get a pay check and not earn it..!!! Never in the history of customer service have I seen employees allow customers into a store and then sit there and be told 100 time throughout their visit that they are closing in 10 min (5pm) and that they need to go to the front of the store. Just after entering. Not allowing customers to go to the isle they need because they want to close on time. He asked if I needed assistance and proceeded to check the back for what I was looking for and managed to find some. When he returned he observed cleaning wipes in my cart. The wife and I made a late night trip to this Walmart in Tumwater. Something strange is going on here. The outside appearance was very clean. Inside for shopping employees were smiling and offering to help us find things. There were no loud obnoxious PA calls or loud radio chatter. The store was stocked well, having items I had looked for in two other stores but could not locate. Overall, a very pleasant shopping trip. My elderly mother and father came in your store on April 2nd to AGAIN find ALL the electric scooters plugged in and not ready for customer use. The 'Greeter Leader' rudely told my mother that they weren't ready. She needed a place to sit while my father searched for a charged scooter, the only place to sit was a scooter that was plugged in. 'Greeter leader' then again rudely told her they weren't ready and proceeded to shake her head at my mother and give her nasty looks. Meanwhile my father was going to the other entrance to check the scooters there, only to have an employee nastily tell him " they're all charging down there too". Not realizing my Father had spotted someone returning a scooter in the parking lot. When my Father made it back to my Mother he walked past the "Greeter Leader' and overheard her talking with another employee about them and shaming them for being desperate for a scooter. If all your scooters need charging at the same time maybe you should plug them in sooner. Maybe your store needs more scooters if they get used up so much. Maybe instead of being nasty your employees could have helped her instead of being rude. Your store is right next to several retirement communities, so most of your customers are elderly, you need to treat them better. Get more scooters or hire someone to wrangle them better. This happens a lot. I doubt my parents will shop Walmart anymore, they're going to Winco from now on, my parents say they have better customer service. read more

This is the newest Walmart in Thurston Country, so it's clean and modern. It seems a little small, though. The layout is quite different from some of the other Walmart locations in the area, so it can take a little bit of looking to find your specific department. Groceries are still on the left side of the store, but frozen foods are closer to the front rather than the rear of the store. The photo department is at the front of the store, in the same area as Customer Service. There are a few photo kiosks if you're looking to print a few digital prints from your media. I was disappointed that this location does not offer Self-Checkout. The store can be busy, and lines for checkout can be a little long at times. Self-Checkout would be a nice benefit for those of us who prefer to do it ourselves rather than wait for a cashier. The parking spaces aren't as wide as most parking spaces, so there's not a lot of room when getting in and out of the car. If you have a brand new car and don't want to take a chance, you might want to park at the end of the row. I'm not sure what kind of lighting is used in this store, but it's definitely not as bright as many other Walmart stores. I would assume it's in an effort to be more environmentally friendly, but it makes the store seem a little dim and slightly less inviting. read more

I visited the Tumwater Walmart at 3:00 PM on a Thursday, and found myself avoiding at least ten people without masks. When at the checkout stand, I noticed a big burly guy behind me in line without a mask. I asked the checkout lady if they had changed their policy about masks, and she said no... they just couldn't enforce the mask policy because of those with disabilities. The young man at the checkout stand next to me started yelling at me about how he was a veteran and had disabilities and on, and on. I am a little gray haired lady, with a medically fragile husband. I don't need to feel threatened while shopping. I called the store manager and she told me they have the same policy as other local stores. I won't be back. read more

This is your typical Walmart. I just visited the store with a list of 5 items to purchase, and left the store having found only 1. While it's a huge store, I always find that I leave without being able to find what I want. I desperately need to buy a new fan but their shelves were bare. I also had hoped to find paper cups (no plastic for me!) but there were NONE. And Carmex chapstick, there was none. Sweet jesus. I went here on my lunch to print off 16 pictures. Everything was fine until I had to stand in a line of 6 people to pay my $5. The line didn't budge for 15 minutes so I had to THROW MY PICTURES AWAY so I could get back to work on time (mind you, I have a 1 hour lunch) . I've had countless awful experiences here. The jewelry department manager lied to us about the "product replacement plan" that we paid extra for. She said if the chain broke they'd replace it, THAT WAS A LIE! Another time a cashier refused to cash my coin star voucher because "they don't cash those here". Coin star literally tells you that you have to cash it out at that store the same day. Another time a greeter accused me of stealing something that was clearly on the receipt. Another time I asked if they had something they were out of up front and the dude said "I'll check in back" and I literally watched him go by the bathroom and stand there for a minute and then came back to me saying they were out. This store is a simple two minute walk from my home and I now drive across town if I must shop a walmart at all. I have had many occasions where the customer service was horrible, to say the least.....and last night was the last time I accept it. Every time I go in, I politely decline showing my receipt, as permitted by Washington state law. This time the receipt checker not only charged at me but claimed I had to show him my receipt.
