This was seemingly the pick of several Indian restaurants in the area. They had a conventional menu and a separate dosa (savory crepe) menu, which they did not offer me for some reason I could not understand, given that someone else ordered one so clearly the crepes were on offer. That being said, I preferred to order an okra dish, and I was not disappointed. The spice mix included whole cardamom pods and dried chili, and probably quite a lot else. And my soupy okra in a tomato and onion base being ordered here in the deep south led my mind to wonder if I was eating gumbo for a moment before the spices kicked in. Ordering a samosa chaat was also a wise decision. The samosa is of course in and of itself a classic, but the chaat offers a surprise in every bite. Are you going to get some mint sauce? A fresh bit of tomato? A coating of fried noodles? It's good regardless. The menu offered clear vegan choices and plenty of options even though they stiffed me on the dosas. I was a bit taken aback by the check. Don't get me wrong, the food was good, but I know what to expect from an Indian restaurant in the region and this was well more than I would have paid for the same sort of meal in Augusta or Atlanta. The decor feels like a restaurant in India. The vegetable samosas were fabulous - crispy and piping hot! Always enjoy the mix of the green chile chutney and the tamarind chutney. The fish curry was good. The spice level I ordered was medium, and I would have liked it to be a bit more spicy than what I got. This is the best Indian cuisine I've had in a while. The setting was nice & clean. The dishes & utensils were clean. The water was clean. The mango Lassi was great. The food tasted awesome. The lamb shank was fall off the bone. The butter chicken was delicious especially with the garlic Naan. The spaghetti with chicken was also really good. The samosas seemed a lil over priced but when I bit into it, the texture was perfect so I couldn't complain. I just wished they put meat in it. But everything was great. The service was amazing. We were really surprised when our son who is at Fort Benning brought us to this Indian restaurant in Columbus, Georgia. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the waiter was very pleasant. We ordered Samosa Chaat and Onion Bhajia for appetizers. They came out nice and hot and the portions were really large. We were almost full after the appetizers. Nonetheless, we ordered Paneer Dosa, Saag paneer, Goat curry and Saffron chicken curry. All curries came with basmati rice. We also ordered garlic naan and bullet naan. The food is amazing, I like it hot so went spicy. They took it easy on me, but plenty of heat for most. The naan is legit, Tandoori is great and the Jalfrezi is a flavor explosion. Me and my husband give this restaurant a 10! From the moment you walk the host and waiter are so friendly. The food was so good and they brought it out very quickly! We ordered garlic naan and samosas to start and it came out within 3 mins. My husband ordered a Mango Lassi and it's one of the best mango smoothies we've ever had. My husband ordered chicken Biryani and he gave it a 10, I ordered Butter Chicken I give it a 10 also and both those came out with 5 mins! I just ordered for the first time the Dum Chicken Briyani and WOW!!! I just watched a travel show where a guy went to India and was trying all these Briysnis and it made me want to try it. My Mom and I visited yesterday evening to have dinner and the food and service were AMAZING! The restaurant looks beautiful inside and soft traditional Indian music was playing in the restaurant. I ordered Tandoori Chicken (it came with basmati rice) with mint chutney sauce and raita sauce (yogurt based sauce). My Mom ordered Chicken Chettinadu, which also came with basmati rice. We both enjoyed our meals which were delicious and very fresh. For dessert we ordered the homemade mango ice cream. It was like eating a very juicy and ripe mango in ice cream form. Competition is fierce, as they are all within a five-minute drive from each other. Before we talk about the food, let's discuss the experience. It's a multi-part journey when dining at one of these places' buffets. I believe only two of the three offer a buffet service. The first part is the eating, which always lasts at least an hour and involves many trips to and from the buffet and dining table. Following this is what I call the "pregnancy phase" . Not to get political, but if you love Indian food as much as I do, even a man can get a baby bump. These two phases are subsequently followed by the food coma phase, the most dangerous phase. This phase usually begins towards the latter half of your ride home, so it's a bit of a battle. Make sure you allocate plenty of time for napping, as you'll need about a 2-3 hour nap. The last phase, which varies for each individual and can last literal days, is determined by how well you handle spice. Let's just say you may be taking many trips to the restroom and doom-scrolling to pass the time and the movements. I'm from Vicenza Italy. Best believe they use fresh ingredients and make their food with love! I've eaten at the buffet here a few times now and had some of their menu dishes delivered and so far I love this place. I would say there are some items I prefer at Taste of India over this restaurant, and some I prefer from Saffron over Taste of India. I'm just happy to have more Indian food options in Columbus because it is my favorite type of food. This is definitely a restaurant worth trying out! After searching the local foods forever, I finally pulled the trigger on Uber Eats and got me some Saffron. I love Indian food, and this place did not disappoint. The naan bread was so freaking good. I would recommend getting a variety of breads and things to dip it in. Uber offered me a deal the lead to wayyyy to much food, but I'm glad I got to try multiple options. For those local that like Indian food, please find your way to Saffron and keep them in business! Support a locally owned and operated, always friendly and accommodating staff and much tastier food than other current Indian options IMHO. We eat at Saffron about once or twice a month, and our favorite time to go is lunch for their buffet, although they offer a full menu as well. Walking past the aromatic climbing jasmine as we enter and smiling at the staff as they prepare our usual drinks without us having to say a word (they remember our preferences), and getting to the food within a minute or two of entering (for the buffet at least) always sets the mood for a good meal. They switch a few things in the buffet up here and there while generally keeping some staples that everyone likes. If this is your first time trying Indian, the chicken tikka masala is always a safe bet and what most Americans prefer. I like to try a little bit of many things personally but my husband sticks with this tasty dish. They try to keep a close eye on the buffet to refresh things as they get low, but if anything runs out or gets old one can remedy it with a simple request within minutes. They have plenty of different items to cater to everyone, but if you like Mexican sopapillas you cannot pass up their Bhatura! I mean their Naan is great with any curry of course, but often times if we have enough room in our bellies, we will sit and dip bhatura in curry or - if your tastebuds are ready for mouthwatering - into their Semiya Payasam which is a sweet, soupy dessert. A piece of fresh bhatura dipped in this warm dessert with flavor reminiscent of milk-and-honey will have your eyes rolling back in delight and tingles going through you. If that wasn't enough, the home-made mango ice cream can be the cherry on top! If you're adventurous and mix the ice cream with the semiya payasam, you get a bit of a mango lassi combination that soothes any heat from the curries and settles you in for a nice food coma. read more

Food here was fabulous. We are the buffet and I never eat the buffet because I'm not a fan of sub par food. That wasn't the case here. It was fabulous. I tried most things and loved the coconut rice and the mango ice cream was a lot like gelato. The curry chicken and the chicken Marsala was fabulous. Today was my second time at Saffron and both times I have been pleased! First and foremost, I love that the employees are not forced to wear masks. (I'm not sure what the owners rules are regarding masks, but there were employees not wearing them and this makes me HAPPY! I am much more likely to return places where employees have a choice.) I love the atmosphere in this restaurant! It's very bright and welcoming. They usually have music playing, but it's not so loud that you can't hear people talking. They did a great job with decorating and they don't seat people right beside others during slower times so there's plenty of space. The employees have all been very nice and observant. They noticed when we were out of drink and when we needed more rice. The food is extremely good! I get aloo gobi at every Indian restaurant because who doesn't love potatoes and cauliflower?! I get mild spice, which still has a kick but it's not unbearable. The spices in the aloo gobi are on point! The portion was perfect! Tonight my mom got the vegetable fried rice, which was delicious and a HUGE portion! She will be able to have two more meals from it alone. I like to stick with garlic naan. (I wish Saffron had the Indian cheese naan because I like to add the garlic topping to it - I'm not sure the cheese name. They do have a cheddar garlic naan though.)
