Finally made it to Saffy's after having it on my list for a while, and it was absolutely worth the wait. This place stays busy, and for good reason. We ordered what felt like a solid mix of dishes to get a full sense of the menu, and honestly, everything we tried melted in our mouths. A big standout for me was the wood-fired yellow cauliflower--perfectly charred, flavorful, and a dish I'd recommend to anyone. In fact, I'd highly suggest this spot if you've got vegetarian friends in your group; they'll be more than happy with all the options here. The vibe inside is lively but fun. They had a 90s playlist going that kept the energy up, and you could see the kitchen staff actually enjoying themselves on the line, which made the whole experience feel even better. There's also a full bar inside, so don't skip looking over the drink menu--some really creative cocktails to round out the meal. The only downside was more about timing: eating here during the daytime, the space is so open that flies were coming in and out. Not a dealbreaker, but you might find yourself swatting a bit between bites. Suggesting that we order extra bread knowing that we're about to get so much more pita bread with the main courses. Suggesting that we order more food as if each serving was small, although most of the mains were very generously portioned. Aside from that, however, they were friendly and attentive. Food (5/5): I really did enjoy their food. Wood-fire shawarma plate is DEFINITELY the highlight of the night. The wood fire shawarma plate and the beef kebab were top-tier. Saffy's definitely lives up to its counterparts Bestia and Bavel. This restaurant was upscale and trendy, very good for celebrating our friend's birthday. Although the dishes we ordered don't come with rice they definitely give a good amount for pita bread for you to feel full. Would recommend hummus ful and the falafel. Both were so delicious, the sauces were great, very rich in flavor but not super salty. For the kebabs, I wasn't a fan of the pork&veal. Honestly think the most banger kebab was the juicy beef kebab, would just order 4 of that instead next time. The lobster skewer was so tender and flavored well, it is expensive though, but I'm glad I tried it. Overall, very nice vibes in this restaurant. Middle Eastern restaurant brought to you by the husband/wife team that brought you Bestia and Bavel located in the East Hollywood neighborhood and adjacent to Thai Town. The restaurant feels upscale enough for a nice dinner out or for a celebratory meal, but casual enough where it doesn't feel stuffy and you can walk in and have a nice quick meal or grab breakfast here on the weekends. This restaurant uses a lot of wood fired cooking and does a lot of smaller shareable plates so there's a lot of flexibility in terms of how much or how little you want to order. Me and a couple of friends were in the neighborhood and we didn't have reservations, but we were able to walk in and grab seats at the bar (usually my favorite seating in any restaurant). The bartender/ server was really great along with the rest of the folks we interacted with. Food run down (what we ordered): -Peruvian scallop crudo -Hummus ful - came with some fresh, delicious challah -Wood-fired yellow cauliflower -Grilled chicken wings -Tempura sweet potato & fennel -2 skewers: lamb kebab and beef shishlik Cocktails: -Clarified milk punch -Mango lassi Really enjoyed both cocktails. After reading reviews, seems like dinner is the ideal time to go in, but wanted to try their brunch. Was able to get street parking, which I feel might be a bit hard at times. The staff was super friendly, were happy to be there and recommended the Swedish cardamom rolls. Went with the Arabic breakfast and a cardamom roll for dessert. The food was amazing. The Shashua was not as vicious as I'm used to, but still delicious. The whipped sweet butter with honey was amazing with the fresh bread. Was a nice casual atmosphere for lunch. First time at Saffy's and would recommend it to anyone who loves elevated Mediterranean. Compared to the sister restaurant Bavel, Saffy's is a more casual affair but with just as much flavor and attention to ingredients. Would definitely recommend it as a nice date night or group dinner spot. Both the indoor and outdoor seating was really nice and chic. We managed to get an early dinner reservation for Saturday night and saw that as it got later, the more the crowd grew waiting to be seated. Would definitely recommend coming with a reservation, especially during prime time on the weekends. Parking situation echoes other reviews, it's not great. All street parking with certain side streets being permit only in the evening so park with caution. Valet was $13 at the front of the restaurant at the time of this review. Now for the good stuff, the food. Peruvian Scallop Crudo: Amazing, especially if you're a fan of scallops. Super fresh and flavorful. One order comes with four scallops on the half shell. Hummus Ful: Debated between the Ful and the Tahini but the soft boiled egg on the Ful got us. Great texture and rich flavor, a must try. The accompanying Challah bread paired perfectly. Lobster Skewers: Pricey but worth it if you enjoy lobster. Cooked perfectly and had a nice little kick. About the same price as the entrees so I'd recommend it if you're feeling sumptuous. Wood-Fire Shawarma Plate: Lamb and Wagyu Beef, you really can't go wrong. The meat was really tender and rich, the lamb flavor was a little strong so I'd only order if you enjoy lamb, which we did. Skewers - Chicken and Beef Shishlik: Skewers caught us by surprise and ended up being one of our favorite parts of the dinner, especially the chicken. Chicken was cooked skin on which got super crispy and flavorful. The accompanying laffa and tahini sauce were excellent paired with the meat. Waitress warned us it was a bit spicy but we didn't think so at all (we're also used to spice). Banana Cake: Banana flavored desserts are really getting their moment (as they should be). Think of this like a banana bread with frosting and pecans. We'd order this again for sure. Soft serve with Chocolate Shell: Nothing too crazy but it was a refreshing finish to the dinner on a warm evening. Mediterranean heaven! I love food that has so much personality and gives you an experience as you are consuming it. That's the only way to describe Saffy's. We started off with peruvian scallop crudo. It tastes exactly how the dish looks. Explosive with flavor. So so good! Next up is the tumeric mussels. What can I say?! I love seafood. The spices in the turmeric sauce made the dish so memorable. We also had the hummus (not pictured). I don't think you can mess up hummus lol. we also ordered the beef kabobs. Well seasoned to perfection and so tender. I took that hike and had leftovers the next day. Just as good as the night before! The service was great. The waitress was very knowledgeable and offered her opinion on the dishes we ended up ordering. Parking is also available on the streets and is pretty easy to find. People have been raving about Saffy's since they opened and I finally made the trek down there. We sat outside on the patio which is a cute little corner spot and great for people watching. It does get very dark after sunset and they could definitely use more lights. As for the food, I was expecting off the charts amazing. Everything was good but it unfortunately wasn't worth the hype for the prices & location. We started with the hummus, tomatoes, scallop crudo and gem salad. I was expecting the hummus to be full of flavor but it wasn't worth surprisingly bland. The bread had way more flavor. The scallop crudo was excellent! Small bites but a perfect blend of spices. The tomatoes were fine but nothing I'd order again. The gem salad was interesting, served more like lettuce cups and could use more dressing. For our entrees we shared the skewers; getting a mix of lamb, chicken, beef kabobs & beef shishlik. The chicken and lamb were the stars! Both were super tasty and different. We also got the coconut rice which was very good. Service was excellent, very attentive and helpful. Overall everything was good. It's worth trying once but there's far better places in the city for better prices. It would have been 4 stars but I am deducting 1 star because at the end of our meal, we were talking and enjoying ourselves, our server came and just took all of our food when we had two whole skewers and a plate of rice left, which is about $50 worth of food. Came for dinner a few weeks ago and it was actually my second time here. I remember walking away the first time thinking it was underwhelming, okay food but underwhelming. Second time around, still feel the same way. I find that they take themselves too seriously. We had a reservation and still had to wait about 20ish minutes or so. I found that pretty annoying. What's the point of a reservation if you have to wait such a long time? They ask you to place your order in all at once. We asked for the hummus to come out with our entree and the waiter said no. We asked for this because we wanted to have the hummus with the skewer and knew we'd gobble it up if it was served beforehand. They served it right away. We found that to be a little ridiculous and another example of them taking themselves too seriously. It's hummus... you can hold off 10 or so minutes until serving it with the entree. We were also really disappointed because so much of their menu was sold out by the time we got there. The waiter crossed out multiple dishes that they no longer could make, including ones we were excited to try. Food breakdown... the hummus ful was okay but not the best hummus I've had. And frankly not a ton of hummus on the plate, really just the circumference of the plate. It comes with two huge slices of challah bread. Peruvian scallop crudo had a beautiful presentation. Really nice flavor, but minuscule portion for how much it costs. Green falafel was plated nicely. Small little falafels, they were okay, nothing memorable. The waiter was really pushing us to get a salad and said we needed one to "round out our meal", which in hindsight was probably just a way to get us to order more. He told us to get the endive and onion salad which was solidly not worth it. A ton of endive slices, extremely underwhelming and again not worth the cost. Then we got 2 skewers - chicken shishlik and beef shishlik. I think you can guess what I'll say. The meat was cooked okay and tasted good but is it worth $42? ... not so sure. In terms of cocktails, the waiter recommended I get the raspberry margarita. Per the theme of the night, I didn't enjoy it and thought it was very average. I wish I got something else. My bf got the mango lassi cocktail which was pretty good. Saffy's is one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. The service is awesome. There was a bit of a wait even though I had a reservation. The crew made it up to us by offering free drinks, appetiser and dessert! They were courteous throughout the night. Their best dishes are the Peruvian Scallop Crudo and the Woodfire Shawarma Plate. These are exquisite. Do not leave without trying these. My friends and I also loved the hummus ful (that challah bread is divine). We also loved the turmeric mussels, especially the sauce. That crispy pita is to die for. For wine, I highly recommend their Salento Rosso 'Notarpanaro', Cosimo Taurino 2013 offering if you love big and bold red wines. 2 Chicken Shishlik Skewers 10/10- no joke I genuinely think this is the best chicken that I've ever tried. It was INCREDIBLE. The chicken was super moist and tender- not a single dry part. They marinated it in garlic, cumin, cinnamon, green fenugreek, and sumac. I'm a bit more particular with chicken as I really hate dry chicken but this was superb. 2 Beef Shishlik Skewers 9.65/10- the beef skewers were also incredible. I liked how tender the beef was and how it perfectly melts in your mouth. They marinated it in yogurt, mint, garlic, pepper, marjoram, and oregano. The skewers come with laffa, tahini chopped salad, and beet amba. I loved the beet amba- it was my first time trying it and I think it's exclusive to Saffy's. The salad was really good and I loved how it was perfectly dressed in tahini. The laffa was okay- I prefer doughey-er pitas but it was still a great accompaniment to the skewers and beet amba. I really wanted to try the lamb kebab but we went around 10 pm (they close late) and a lot of their items were sold out- excited to eventually try it though. Hummus ful 9.78/10- made with slow cooked fava beans, cumin, lemon, pickled serrano, soft egg, and challah. This was so good. The fava beans were perfectly cooked and I loved how the soft egg mixed in with everything to create this super creamy texture. The pickled serrano added just the right amount of heat that complemented the earthiness of the beans. The challah was perfect for scooping up every last bit. Green falafel 8.35/10- I'm normally not a huge fan of falafel as a lot of restaurants make it dry but this was incredible! It was so fluffy. I loved how the dill flavor was evident and they also had carrot chutney which I've never seen before but added lots of flavor. The falafel had this amazing crispy exterior while staying super moist inside which is so hard to find. Mango Lassi Cocktail 4.32/10- I was super excited to try this but honestly wasn't a huge fan. It's made with vodka, mango, amba, dried chile, coconut, lime, cardamom, mint. The dried chile kind of overpowered the flavor of the mango and cardamom to me and was the only strong flavor other than that it tasted a bit bland. I couldn't taste the mango flavor. I also couldn't taste vodka but thank god haha so it's a bit dangerous. I had been dying to try Saffy's for a while now and I'm so happy I finally got around to trying it as it was amazing and now I'm dying to go back! Came here for dinner last night and left very satisfied! Saffy's is located on one of the busier streets of East Hollywood, so I recommend using their valet to save yourself the hassle of parking (it's not cheap unfortunately, but nothing about Saffy's is cheap). The restaurant is super vibey, with a lively open kitchen and lots of outdoor seating (with heat lamps). It's probably my favorite out of the 3 restaurants (Bestia and Bavel being the others) in terms of design and the taste of food. Service was good overall, though we did have a host who was super condescending and not very helpful, but that was quickly forgotten because our actual server was wonderful. Staff is quick and attentive too. For food, we got a variety of items include the hummus ful, beet salad, grilled onion and endive salad, red snapper, lobster skewer, and beef and chicken skewers. Everything was super flavorful and delicious, with the standouts being the lobster skewer and beef skewer. I think the prices are definitely on the higher end for the amount of food you get, but everything tasted great and was unique, so I didn't mind shelling out the cash. We all checked the menu beforehand, and it looked like I may be able to have a few appetizers and just enjoy time with my friends. Nothing crazy. No plant based entrees were listed, so I figured this will probably not be super vegan friendly, but some appetizers did look promising. But you know, we should make note of restaurants that go out of their way to make diners feel unwelcome. So here I am, sharing my experience with you. Saffy's indeed do whatever they could to make me feel like I should never come back. So I won't, don't worry. The waitress (who was lovely) took my menu away as soon as I said I was vegan. She came back after a few minutes with almost all of it crossed out. See the pic. Almost none of the veggie appetizers were vegan friendly, and guess what? No modifications. Not even to just exclude cheese from a salad or put dressing on the side. Zilch. Absolutely no changes. My friends were shocked and felt horrible for suggesting we go there. It felt very exclusionary, not the type of experience LA usually has to offer. And let's be clear, to charge almost $20 for hummus, $17 for falafel and $23 for endive salad (that I didn't even want) is not okay. Simply not okay. It was very clear that no one in the restaurant cared about the level of experience I had. They couldn't get us out of there fast enough to bring in the next diners. Vegans, just don't. She gave detailed, vivid descriptions of the menu and made thoughtful recommendations. We decided to follow her suggestions, and she didn't steer us wrong. That said, we chose not to order more since our bill, including drinks, was already nearing $400. The crudo and snapper were easily the highlights--absolutely delicious. However, given the prices, I can't help but feel this spot is overhyped. Finally made it to Saffy's right at 5:15, which meant the full menu was available -- a small win after a few prior visits where things had sold out (honestly a good sign that everything here is fresh). This visit fully delivered. Everything was a straight 10/10. The gem salad changes seasonally but keeps its core, and it was perfectly balanced and bright. We ordered the beef kebab, pork & veal, lamb kabobs, and beef shish -- no chicken this time, but we've had it before and it's excellent too. Truly, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. We skipped the lobster skewer this time, but it's absolutely a must-try if you can get it. What really elevated the night was the service. Virginia was amazing -- incredibly friendly, genuinely funny, and knows exactly how to take care of guests. When the food is this good it's already an experience, but when the service feels like a party, it takes everything up another level. The foods were great, overall. If I go back to Saffy's, these are the dishes that I'd reorder: 1. Grilled lobster skewer: The marinade was delicious but not overpowering and the lobster meat was juicy. 2. Turmeric mussels: The sauce was amazing--it was fragrant, coconut-y, and creamy. But the mussels were very fishy and didn't taste fresh. I think either chicken or clams would've been a better protein in this sauce. Also $32 was a bit too much but the sauce was so good that I'd order it again. 3. Shawarma plate: It's a mixed plate of lamb and wagyu beef and the meat was very tender and well-cooked. The sauces complimented the plate well, too. I don't usually eat lamb but I enjoyed it very much. And I'd pass on their desserts, the gem salad, and hummus ful. I have a strong feeling that Saffy's dessert chef is the same person as Bavel's because the desserts that we had at Saffy's were subpar. Skewers were good but a bit boring and the chili sauce that came with the skewers was an odd condiment that didn't go well with the meat. read more

Service at Saffy's is excellent. We requested that our seating area be changed, and although it was a full house on a Friday night, our request was accommodated. Our server Daniella was extremely helpful with her recommendations and really made our evening exceptional. She recommended a passion fruit margarita which was superb. The mango lassi missed the mark as I was unable to detect any alcohol or mango flavors. The non-alcoholic saffron meyer lemonade was interesting; light notes of saffron with a perfectly balanced sweet and sour lemonade. To start, we ordered beets, Peruvian scallop crudo, green falafel, and roasted celery root. Our favorite of the three was the roasted celery root! Creamy, perfectly roasted, and decadent. For the price, it was a generous portion. The scallops had the most beautiful presentation in the half shells and the dressing had a good kick with just the right note of acidity. Our least favorite ware the beets and falafel; they were ordinary and really did not stand out. Hands down, the wood-fire shawarma plate was our collective favorite. Lamb, wagu beef, tomato, sumac, onions, tahini, red ajika, with beef chutney created the most delicious shawarma served with their homemade bread. At $45/plate, it was well worth the price. The skewers are also a must! The wagyu beef kebab and lamb kebabs were packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. Slightly spicy, these Kabobs were juicy and scrumptious. The beef shashlik was served medium, tender and generous chunks. We also ordered the roasted duck which was also delicious; however, there was more fat than meat. The cardamom rice served alongside the duck provided a nice balance between the heavy duck. For dessert, we ordered all three options: the strawberry millet tres leches, orange blossom creme caramel, and tahitian vanilla soft serve. The millet in the tres leches added a interesting texture; however, it really did not stand out. The creme caramel was definitely the best of the three desserts. It was silky and absolutely delicious with the orange blossom essence. Our least favorite was the soft serve as it was ordinary. This casual space has very cool vibes with a hype crowd. Inside seating can get a little hot near the open fire and a little loud on the bar side. Outside seating is ideal for larger crowds with our wonderful LA weather. read more

Saffys has good vibes overall, but the experience was mixed. The space feels nice, but the service was a bit cold. The barista came off standoffish and was not very helpful when I asked about the food. The cold brew was fine. Nothing memorable. It did the job but did not stand out. The banana pancakes were the highlight. Great texture, soft inside with a nice consistency. The butter worked really well with the pancakes and made the dish enjoyable. Not a bad visit, but nothing pulled me in enough to want to come back. read more

I'm honestly surprised this place doesn't have a higher rating because it's easily one of my favorite spots in the city. It's perfect whether you're meeting a friend for drinks or coming with a group. If you go, you have to order the celery root because it was absolutely incredible! The drink selection is just as impressive, with great wines, creative cocktails, and delicious nonalcoholic options. Such a fun spot with amazing food and drinks. Valet parking was only 13 dollars which is cheaper than any other restaurant I frequent. The food was absolutely delicious which made up for the fact that you cannot wait at the bar for your table; the bar is for walk in patrons, so you wait outside next to heat lamps until your table is ready. They do have a nice server to bring u a drink while you wait which is great. Back to the food. It was heavenly. We had the mussels, we had the hummus, we had the gem salad which was absolutely delicious. I definitely recommend the gem salad and mussels. The bread which came with the hummus was fresh baked. Truly satisfying. We also had the celery appetizer it was very unique and did not taste like celery. The main course was fried sea bass which i loved so much. We also got the kabobs: Wagyu and lamb, both were excellent. I had a latte for dessert because i like to finish my meal with some type of coffee. The meal was a ten out of ten. Truly great food. An intimate setting with Cool vibes and decent people. Looking around everyone was smiling and laughing. It was worth every penny. read more

The vibe here is trendy and full of energy, and I love that they take walk-ins. The menu is small but creative. The turmeric mussels, hummus ful with toasted sesame challah, and yellowfin crudo were all delicious, but the grilled lobster skewer with green harissa was easily my favorite. The drinks were amazing, and the chocolate cake was the perfect ending. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. A great spot for dinner with friends! read more

Wow - I already had high expectations because I love Bavel but Saffy's still blew us away anyway. They always encourage ordering lots of appetizers and entrees to share so here are some of the things we got in a nutshell because it was quite a lot: Hummus ful - The toast that comes with was perfectly toasted and warm pairing well with the creamy hummus Turmeric mussels - The soup was kind of watery but still tasted yummy+ the mussels tasted very fresh Lobster tail - Absolutely diabolical how small the portions are because they are so good and have a strong spice to them, with somewhat of a minty/herby taste Grilled onion and endive salad - A total underdog but a very flavorful salad and now I love endives Lamb and beef shishlik - Amazing, just the most tender and juiciest cuts of meat, and they provide sauces that complement everything so nicely ? Short rib - Not sure if it's on the menu anymore, but this dish was a little tougher and dry than the others though very well-seasoned Chocolate & avocado honey butter swirl ice cream - An interesting flavor combo for sure..I'm not the biggest honey buter fan but I'd say it's worth trying I would love to try the iconic Saffy's dish kebab but their menu seems to change here and there, so will definitely come back to try that (when my wallet recovers). They have a lot of seating both inside and outside, but you definitely should have a reservation. Service was super friendly even when my friends and I were yapping for who knows how long after dessert and even offered us tea because it was cold outside T^T they were very sweet and the restaurant itself is beautiful as well, great for an evening out! read more
