Came here after I watched Bethenny Frankel make love to the Sag Harbor Tavern burger and wanted to do the same. I made a reservation during off season for a weekday lunch table. I'd initially requested indoors, but it was such a nice day that the restaurant decided to conduct outdoor service only which, honestly, was the right decision. Sag Harbor Tavern is situated on a scenic block off the main strip of Sag Harbor right by the water, so if you're coming here on a nice day definitely try to grab a table outside. Once we arrived we were promptly seated. We were here for one thing - The Sag Harbor Tavern Burger, but the deviled eggs with caviar caught our eye and we had to try those as well. Deviled eggs and caviar are a match made in heaven honestly, this was such an excellent bite that I wasn't even mad about paying $24 for eggs. It was finally time for the main attraction: The Sag Harbor Tavern Burger. The bun was crispy and toasted to perfection, the cheese was melted on to the bun, it was stacked with a perfectly caramelized slab of onion and god the burger itself just oozed with deliciousness. The outside of the burger is coated in a spice crust that I will dream about forever. I was honestly surprised at the low reviews here because aside from the excellent food, service was also friendly, helpful, and on point, and the restaurant itself is beautiful. So I went to this place alone on Friday night and I ordered the Roasted Chicken. The next day I started feeling really ill and I realized I had contracted food poisoning. This was SUCH a disappointment. I had heard great things. We didn't have a reservation, but were told we could be seated inside right away for lunch. The outside patio is modern and beautiful with a water view, so I was very surprised at how dark (honestly, dark not dim) and rundown the interior was. Someone approached us and asked if we wanted anything to drink. We did not even know if this was our waiter. He said, "What are you getting, the burger?" We said yes. We decided to share a burger and fish and chips and set aside our menus. After a very long time, probably about 40-45 minutes, the same person came back and took our order. When asked how we wanted the burger cooked, we said medium rare. He said it would be very pink inside and asked if that was ok. We said yes. Our waiter never checked on us, never told us the food would be out soon, nothing. It took a very long time to get our food. We finally got the food and the burger was medium-well to well done. We were so hungry that we didn't even flag down the waiter. We just ate. The waiter never came by. Every time he walked by us he did not make eye contact. We needed more ketchup and could not flag him down. Finally, we got ketchup from another waiter. We were completely ignored by our waiter. The service was terrible. And the food was just mediocre. That was not a $34 burger! Finally, another waiter came to clear our plates. He asked us how everything was. I told him that the burger was well done, but that we were too hungry to send it back. Food is incredible! Don't listen to the Karen's and city yuppies in these reviews. If you come here regularly they treat you very well! I pop in almost every weekend & the key is to sit at the bar for an easier experience. Getting a table especially during dinner can be tricky & service gets jammed. Food is much better now than when it used to be dockside, and the ambiance is very similar but looks more like the sister location in Red Hook. Leone & Damian at the bar are very nice & make great cocktails. Billy the owner is very nice too & sits by the bar at lunch sometimes. I must say I wanted not to like the place because of the hype and somewhat confusing reservation system but it was fantastic. First of all we all went for the burger and it did not disappoint. Each of us had different temperatures and they were all spot on. Simply the best burger on the South Fork. Additionally we had the deviled eggs which were outstanding. But the mussels were to die for they were in a light red sauce with a hint of chorizo. We actually took the extra sauce home. We observed other foods coming out the cavatelli and bucatini looked delicious. The staff was great for a Memorial day weekend and I suspect they kept reservations at a minimum so that hey could provide such excellent service. Our waiter Juven was immensely helpful. Went here in late august for dinner for the first time. But have been wanting to try since it opened this summer. Reservations were extremely hard to get but I would definitely recommend. We sat outside and the ambiance was really nice and quaint for such a large restaurant. The food was actually very good and I wanted to give them 5 starts, however, the service was very slow. We started off with the crudo which was delicious, so light and fresh. We shared the burger and the oxtail cavatelli for our mains. Both were amazing. The burger is obviously what they are known for and it definitely lives up to the hype, and that is also coming from someone who generally perfers a smash burger. The cavatelli is what stood out to me the most as it was very creative but the flavors blended toghther so well, they made a very adventourous sounding dish extremely comforting. I will for sure be going back and trying the oysters, french onion soup, mussels, and the branzino also looked amazing. But everything I have already tried is definitely a reorder. read more

We walked up to the host and she was more than happy to seat us but she continuously got interrupted twice by 2 parties that would walk past her so we kept getting sideswiped, which I didn't appreciate. When we finally got seated at the bar, our bartender was playing triple duty. She was a bartender, busser, and our waitress. She was top notch and handled everything well. Dinner at Sag Harbor Tavern was a bit of a mixed bag. The Branzino deserves a special mention--it might just be the best preparation on the East End. Perfectly executed, flavorful, and memorable. That said, it was also one of the smallest portions I've come across, so you're trading quality for quantity. On the wine front, things fell flat. The list was virtually non-existent. The explanation? Off-season, limited stock. Understandable, but still disappointing--especially when wine should be part of the dining experience year-round. Service, however, was excellent. The staff was warm and attentive, and the kitchen clearly knows what it's doing--every plate that came out was spot-on. The one thing that lingered a bit too much was the price point. It feels excessive for what's being offered in the current off-season. Maybe tighten that up when the village is quieter, then raise the sails again when all the ducks are back in a row. As a single diner it was nice to walk in to see the bar set for dining. The interior has been decorated warmly, more the design of someone's home than a tavern, but very welcoming. I ordered the prawns and an Aperol Spritz. The drink was large and well-balanced, appropriately priced for The Hamptons (or pretty much anywhere now) and the prawns came out in a timely manner, were cooked perfectly, the sauce so nice. I was thankful for the accompanying, perfectly grilled, sourdough bread to get every possible drop of sauce. Christy, a bartender you may recognize from other Hampton locations, is a treasure, and her behind the bar work mate tonight, Tia, was extremely pleasant and cordial.
