Picked up a chicken Parm dinner. It was absolutely horrible. Barely any sauce on the pasta or chicken. Whatever sauce was on it was watery. There was no flavor. Extremely disappointed. Went for an early dinner with friends who had been here a number of times. Was a little nervous that we were the only ones there but it was early and even joked with the owner about the great service we were going to get. We were going to order salads but were told by the server that house salads are included. Our meals all were very good, from pasta dishes with plentiful seafood to my chop that was cooked perfectly and served with roasted vegetables. BYOB is always a plus. read more

Today, a normal day, October 27th, I wanted to visit this place because I'm new to the neighborhood and I truly regret it, I would never return. The entrance took 40 minutes to come out, they didn't have any more tables than us at 7 at night, and my entrance arrived with a burnt and salty steak. My daughter ordered a pasta that didn't have a bad tasting sauce. They really don't know how to cook a steak and the waiter doesn't care or ask you why you left all the food. We have lived in Fair Lawn for over 4 years, but we discovered this amazing restaurant with the pleasant, warm ambience during the summer. I praise the chef for the filet of flounder Francaise, which I've had at other eateries, which cannot compare with this dish at Sage. There is little competition for the eggplant marinara elsewhere. Rob, the chef is always welcoming and friendly and asks whether we enjoyed our meal. The coffee and cappuccino is a great end after our delicious dinner. We went out to dinner with the in-laws and we chose the Sage restaurant. I called ahead and reserved a table for six. Upon arrival, we were immediately seated. There was a large private party, which added to the atmosphere. We requested a couple appetizers and the waiter informed us that they do not serve alcohol. My father-in-law is a wine snob and he requires wine to be served to him when he goes out to dinner. Luckily, Sage allows you to bring your own bottle and they don't even charge a corking fee. In a strange twist of events, we had two bottles of wine sitting in our trunk. So I ran out to the car and brought them in. My father-in-laws frown turned upside down. Since I had eaten earlier, I wasn't really hungry. So I requested creme brule cheesecake for dinner and I picked from everyones' plates. My father-in-law's veal was rich and wonderfully flavorful. Came here for a birthday. We had a party of seven and they were able to accommodate us at a nice long table. The place doesn't look much like it from the outside but it's nice in the inside and more spacious than it appears. Service was good but a little slow. They also didn't pour the wine for us which I don't like. We had the Thai calamari, which was really good. Then we had the burrata appetizer, which was very small and not as creamy as I normally like burrata. I had one of the chicken specials and it was really good then had chocolate lava cake. It was just all right. It wasn't warm. I would go back and give it another try if I was in the area area. read more

Nice interior and professional staff. We started with the Thai Calamari and Shrimp Pommey, both good. My son enjoyed his shrimp penne vodka while my wife hated her Chicken Alfredo. Sage is located on a somewhat busy avenue with a strip mall. Parking is spread out around the building. Not much to look at from the outside, but expansive, yet cozy on the inside. The manager and staff are very friendly & accommodating. BYOB. The menu is a good size with many Italian dish choices. Portions are normal to large. There is also a Daily Special menu. So many choices that sounded delicious and diverse. THE FOOD--Apps Although I really wanted the Pomeray Shrimp ( sauteed in shallots, port wine, and stone ground mustard) , I went with a simple Burrata cheese salad. Burrata being a style of a Mozzarella ball that is creamy as soon as you break into it served with fresh tomatoes and thinly sliced prosciutto over a bed of mixed greens and sprinkled in olive oil. It wasnt the best Burrata I've ever had but all the components of this salad were fresh & very good. Refreshing. THE FOOD--Entrees One of the Specials we had was excellent; a pasta dish named Tuscan Ragu: Beef short ribs and pork shoulder slow cooked in tomato sauce and served over fresh rigatoni pasta. Topped with cool ricotta cheese and shredded aged provolone cheese. SO GOOD! I had the Salmon Griglia, made of white wine sauce with portobello mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, fresh basil and capers. Another well put together meal. I usually never order farm raised salmon ( we must assume here at $32 and the fact the menu didn't claim it was Wild. Still good although a little salty, but that could be a one time thing. We usually skip dessert but when we found out they had homemade mocha bread pudding with ice cream, we split a serving. Another great choice served with some good old American coffee. read more

Each time we go to Sage we are met with culinary delight. I have to say that we have sampled much of the menu and we leave very satisfied every time. The dishes I recommend are the Thai calamari, the stuffed flounder, pork chops Murphy (my favorite) and chicken parm or francaise. The stuffed flounder is consistently fresh and the stuffing tasty. The Thai calamari is crisp light and a great twist on a classic appetizer. The pork chop Murphy is slightly seasoned with cherry peppers to give it the delicious flavor but not the intense heat. The sauce used to glaze the chops is wonderful. Any chicken dish is tender and yummy. Portion size is large so you'll have lunch the next day. Go and experience it for yourselves and see! read more

We absolutely love Sage. We do a lot of take out. The short ribs with rigatoni and ricotta is absolutely delicious. My husband is a chicken parm person and enjoys that every time. The salmon dishes are very good as well as the shrimp. The fried calamari with the ti sauce is not to be missed. We've held graduation from college party at Sage and food always a hit. Stopped in the Sage Restaurant after work because it was recommended by a business associate. This not my first visit to Sage having dined here once before, pre-covid-19. They offer outdoor dining and take-out now but I prefer indoor dining. We stopped for the take-out calling ahead. The order was waiting for us and we ate at a local park. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall on route 4 in Fairlawn and is easy to miss. I ordered the Penne Portobello. I prefer the Italian dressing and light on the dressing. It came just right. The preparation was with sun dried tomato, Portobello mushrooms, fresh spinach with a sprinkling of olive oil and garlic. Fresh ingredients prepared to order with lots of flavor. I never knew this place was there. My husband wanted to take me out for my birthday and my brother suggested we go to Sage. From the outside it doesn't look like much but the inside is nicely decorated and roomy. I believe our waitress was Rebecca, very sweet and helpful. The staff was super nice. The food, amazing!!! We had Thai calamari to start that was so good! My husband had the Tuscany Ragù special and thought he would take some home but ended up eating the whole thing. It was that good! Two words: hidden gem! I must have driven by Sage numerous times while traveling on Route 4, never knowing the flavorful food my mouth was missing out on. Well no more! I came here with a party of 8, and thought it was great! The place is a decent size for being located in a strip mall, making good use of the table layout. The decor is simple yet classy, making you forget you are right off a highway. It's BYOB, so don't forget your favorite libation. We sure didn't as there was almost no room on the table for appetizers. We started with the Fried and Thai Calamari. The squid for both tasted super fresh and the Thai Calamari remained crispy after being tossed with it's delicious sauce (not spicy). We continued with the Muscle Special, the Shrimp Special (both served with bread-dipping flavorful sauces) and the Buratta Cheese for good measure. For my entree, I ordered the Tuscan Ragu - rigatoni pasta with yet another delicious sauce, short-rib, topped with ricotta & Parmesan cheese. The rigatoni was the perfect al dente and the short-rib fell apart at the touch of my fork. If my stomach was large enough, I would have joined the "clean plate club". I was really looking forward to trying out this restaurant for Christmas Eve. I wasn't that impressed but I found some good points to it. It was a little bland for me. We went for an early dinner at 5 because that was the only spot they had open . It wasn't that busy when we got there but still waited ten minutes for our waiter to take our order. It also seemed like the food took forever to come out. We did really enjoy the appetizer of Thai shrimp it was delicious as a larger portion than we expected. My mom said the rice balls she had were very good as well. The calamari was also tasty very light not greasy at all. For entrees I had the shrimp sage it was ok, I hated the rice it was served with , very odd flavor to me although my boyfriend didn't mind it. At $30 for the dish I think they could have done a little better . My boyfriend loved the stuffed sole and my nephew said the chicken Parm was great. I also really did love the bread they served , a foccia with olives baked into it. Outstanding. I would go back to give it one more try because sometimes the service and food is better when it isn't a holiday. The environment was nice and clean but it did get very loud.
