Everything about our meal was spectacular except dessert. We ordered a dark chocolate mousse cake to share on the suggestion of our server. Underwhelming after a good meal. But let me back up. My companion ordered a sirloin that was cooked medium, not medium rare but was still delicious topped with what looked like chimmichuri. It was served with asparagus and sweet potato medallions. The bite I had was worth another bite. I chose to have a beet and orange salad with the appetizer crab cakes (kinda small but full of crabby goodness). My salad was nicely dressed and refreshing. I would definitely recommend and order again. The crab cakes were silver dollar size at most (2 on plate). We drank Old Fasioneds. And really, they were the best part of the meal. Lovely to look at and just perfect. The dark chocolate mousse cake was recommended by our server. The selection of desserts was not exactly thrilling so we went with her recommendation to share. I found it not up to the quality of the rest of the meal and underwhelming. The best thing on the plate was the blob of fresh whipped cream. Service was impeccable. The service was great and the presentation of the food was impeccable. There were a couple of dishes that did not have the spices in correct proportions in my opinion, but the food was still good. Celiacs beware! what was labeled clearly on the menu as "(GF)" was actually wheat pasta. I assumed it would be gluten free pasta since the dish is advertised as gluten free, but this was not the case. Had to run home quickly as I started to feel sick. (Which was when I asked our waiter to confirm it was gluten free. He had to ask the kitchen. ) I hope in the future they change their VERY misleading menu and train their servers on what does and does not contain gluten. Yelp may have come through again - drove 3 hrs to meet someone and looks like I made a good choice. More after eating. Well, food was the weak spot here. I personally love a good shrimp and grits and you will not get that here. It was so-so at best but diminished to horrible based on the greens placed on top. They were worse than eating rubber bands. Not even close to chewable!! Totally detracted from the si-so shrimp and grits. What a shame. Off to a great start and ended up in last place. What a treat in Tallahassee! Sage is a hidden gem worth finding. I don't give out 5 stars that often anymore, they have to earn it Sage earned it. I'm here at the Capital to visit my sister, and for lunch she recommended Sage. Sage can be a very nice intimate restaurant, or a place for just friends. Nicely decorated, clean, and the staff very frIendly and helpfully. Full bar and a nice wine list to boot. A good selection for everyone is on the menu. My sis was eating lite and had French Onion soup (It was a cold day). Served hot and plenty of it. Got to love it when they do it right and melt the cheese over the top. Sis loved it. I had croque monsuier. Ok. In English. A toasted ham sandwich on sourdough with cheese and fancy mustard. Almost a grilled Monty Christo, but more. Trust me it was out of this world. Served with fancy fries and a salad. NO ICEBERG! The salad was nice and to accompany the meal. All this for $12, and it was no small sandwich! By the way, it was knife and fork, no way with fingers. We didn't hit the wine or bar, just tea. Maybe next time a dinner with all the trimmings (bar). Sorry. Sis and I had a lot to catch up and I forgot photos. Check Sage out. Pretty and quaint restaurant. The appetizers were great. I had the filet which was not the best I've ever had, but it was good. Little pricy but as was expected. Weird, they did not have any bottled sparkling water i.e. San Pellegrino.. brought a bottle from the depths of the basement though which was flat but shows a dedicated service staff. read more

I went to this restaurant with high expectations as I've only heard good things about it. I was pleasantly surprised by how great the service was; my waitress showed me all my options for the night and explained in detail each one I was interested in. She made sure to answer any questions I had about the menu and also give me great recommendations. The charcuterie board came out really well - the blueberry cheese was my favorite. The wine and cocktail was also a great pairing with my food. The one issue I had was with the entree (the filet mignon). It was very peppery, and although it was very tender, I couldn't get the overwhelming taste of pepper out of my mouth. However, the chocolate mousse dessert was a very good finishing end to my meal. read more

Yas Sage yas. You go on with your obscenely tasty self! I came to Sage for lunch for the first time and it was uh-impressive. I called and made a reservation for a table with a booth because my daughter is a wild animal and must be contained. The maitre d' was very friendly and accommodating. We arrived and the place is very much decorated like the hot spots of more metropolitan areas: wood paneling, Edison bulbs, shrubbery adornments etc. The menu is very reasonable in terms of size and price and it seems like the chefs are willing to make accommodations as well. I split the quiche and crepe with my mom and both were seriously fantastic. The quiche is sky high with a perfectly flaky crust and a filling that had the perfect balance of soft and light-as-a-cloud egg and veggies. My mom was disappointed at first until I explained that she had never eaten a REAL quiche before: she had only eaten flat, dense quiche that is more like a fritatta than a quiche. I really can't think of a more decadent and perfectly cooked quiche. The side salad is a blend of really fresh and flavorful greens with a super mild and really tasty miso dressing. The crepe is also delicious: the crepe itself is a bit eggy, but I loved it and the creamy mushroom topping is exquisite. Also served with the side salad these meals are decadent but simultaneously very light. I was shocked at how cheap the meals are because it's a very reasonable amount of really fine food for $12 and $13. The icing on the cake was the Chicory-coffee pumpkin torte with house-made whipped cream and other really tasty garnishes that I shamelessly licked off the plate. It was SO dang good, a balance of mousse-like spicy, coffee body, fluffy pumpkin bread base, and soft whipped cream to round out everything. The service is a bit slow but this never bothers me if I'm really enjoying the meal and while the dinner menu does look a bit pricier but I'm willing to bet it's worth it. read more

Absolutely exceptional food! I have been to Sage at least 20 times and still yet to be disappointed. Sage is a small quaint restaurant with a wonderful outdoor patio and elegant dining room. The staff is professional and well educated on the menu. The menu isn't exorbitantly large, but they always feature specials. I rather like when restaurants focus of having a couple handfuls of superb food instead of tons of pages of a menu. I would make suggestions but everything is good! Order what meets your eye, you won't go wrong. If something isn't prepared as it should be don't feel badly letting your sever know, they will gladly get it done right. Had another wonderful brunch at Sage today. My husband and I had the Bloody Mary's then shared the deviled eggs. The drinks had the most interesting vegetables, pickled okra, a pickle slice, radish slices, olives, thyme sprigs, and grape tomatoes and were very good. He ordered the French Toast which came piled high with fruit. He gave me a small bite which had a syrup that wasn't too sweet. I had the Poached Eggs on Crab Cakes which came with mixed vegetables. The eggs were cooked perfectly. Then for dessert he had ice cream, 1 scoop of vanilla and 1 scoop of chocolate malt. Both were made there. I had the key lime pie with a coconut crust covered with marshmallow cream-need I say more? It was SO good. Everything was perfectly prepared. read more

Superb spot! I wanted to try a new spot in Tallahassee. I've heard of this restaurant, but never remembered it when I wanted to try something new (funny thing is it's close to one of the fitness centers I go to). Anyhow, this restaurant is now one of my "go to" date spots in Tallahassee (if that ever happens!). I decided to try the cashew-crusted Grouper with some bread pudding for dessert. We had heard about this place from some friends and decided to give it a try. We ate at the bar and found the service from the bartender caters more to the regulars than unfamiliar faces. Waiters and waitresses also seem to enjoy congregating at the bar chatting to each other and the bartender which leads to a lot of ignoring paying customers. Service definitely bordered on downright rude and a few times I suggested we leave. When we were waited on, the bartender was curt and provided the bare minimum as far as information on the menu or help in general. We also were not provided water although we did request it. Food was ok but not sure it was worth the price or dealing with the bad service. I wouldn't recommend this place. Feels like a restaurant that creatures of habit keep returning to because it's comfortable, not because it's actually worth going to. read more

We were seated at a tiny table next to the bathroom and the waiter's station, I was constantly being bumped by the staff as they hurried back and forth. The predominant flavor of the mussels and the braising liquid they were served in was salt, if there was any wine , garlic, and herbs they were totally lost under the salinity. My main course was the New York strip steak. The steak itself seemed to be of decent quality but again the salt was so excessive as to mask any other flavor. My wife was served fried oysters which arrived barely warm, and a filet minion cooked as ordered, however the compound butter on top of the meat was cold and unmelted. Both the filet and strip were supposed to be served with a wine reduction sauce, again the only discernible flavor was salt. We decided not to risk dessert. We've had many fine relaxing meals at Sage before, this time too many problems to consider going back any time soon. read more

I had heard a great deal about Sage, so I asked the hubs to meet me here for a lunch date. I must say, the service was pretty good, my husband's burger had great taste, and the homemade chips and ranch appetizer was a good treat. However, like many things that can be hyped up or over publicized, I left somewhat disappointed. Their deviled eggs (3 halves to be shared) were comprised of remnants of kimchi for one, chicharrones in another, and a beet-like item for the last. These flavors weren't disclosed on the menu, but more of a "surprise!" situation. The presentation was that of any 5 star restaurant, however, the taste falters in comparison to many a deviled egg I have had over the years, from traditional southern loaded with mayo to a curry deviled egg. I had the shrimp and crawfish etoufee. This too had good flavor, but the grits were lumpy and lacked flavor outside of the accompanying etoufee that lay atop the carb serving. All in all it was a good stop, but nothing I am racing back to eat. read more

We had a 2 o'clock reservation. We checked in at 1:55. We were told they were waiting for a table to leave but the check had already been paid. It should be about 5 minutes. Parties came in after us and were seated. We waited...waited...and about 2:20 I asked the hostess about our table. She seems flustered. I believe she forgot about us... which happens just apologize and move on...but she didn't apologize..she told us again they were waiting for a table. Finally a waiter (not ours) said something to her and then someone else seated us. Around 2:30. The food was ok. Not what I was expecting but it was Easter and they were busy. Not what it used to be We had dinner at Sage to celebrate our 50th anniversary. We have had many wonderful meals at Sage pre-Covid, and thought it would be the perfect place to celebrate this occasion.. we were extremely disappointed. The only positives I can think of were the server's offer to locate a Portuguese wine for me, and the latte and coffee were good. Other than that, the raw oysters were salty, my husband's filet was barely rare (ordered medium rare), the lobster was so tough I couldn't even chew it completely. I had asked that they remove the tail from the shell, which they agreed to do, but it was brought in the shell and had to be sent back. It was served chilled ( which was fine) but I it was served in a gigantic bowl of ice. There was no plate on which to place the lobster so I could cut it. They were aware that we were celebrating our Golden anniversary, but there was no complimentary dessert brought to us. This is the only time in over 50 years that a restaurant did not acknowledge our milestone in any way. We left shaking our heads at just how awful the food and service were. Dear friends, for it is as such that I esteem you. Something is wrong. I'm home now after a dinner with my wife and another couple. The service is so fine, so expert, smiling and friendly that I hesitate to write this. As always, the bread from Tribeca bakery is perfect. But the food, alas, the food. My plate, the lamb chops with mushrooms, I think, was a muddle. The lamb I ordered rare was without char, without a crust. It was raw, fatty, and overwhelmed with mushroom, at least I think they were mushrooms, inundated in a dark, dark sauce, one thing indistinguishable from the rest, a sloppy melange. It was among the worst meals I have ever had. The sage salad could have been fresher, crisper, and a vinaigrette would have served far better than the muddy stuff at the bottom. The simple art of plating was absent throughout. My wife, by the way had much the same reaction to her grouper, pecan crusted. The breading was much too thick, the whole overwhelmed by sauce. Simplify, simplify, simplify. My wife reports she could scarcely taste the grouper, and being 30 miles from its native waters, that's just a crying shame. Something has gone wrong in that kitchen my friends, and though the restaurant was crowded and the service generous, I fear that unless you are willing to change, you are doomed. Wife and I went out to eat and decided to try this place. Staff was very attentive and polite, seating us quickly. Prices are higher than most restaurants, but everything now has gone up significantly, so that was not as big a concern. We split two appetizers, the Deviled Eggs three ways and the crab cakes. presentation for both was well done and both got thumbs up for flavor and texture. We both ordered the Iron Grilled Shrimp and Scallops. The scallops came out perfectly seared on the outside while still tender on the inside. The presentation was very well done and the asparagus, leeks, pea puree, and faro all went well together. This restaurant should be on everyone's list to try. read more

We had only heard of this restaurant because we received a gift card from a friend but it's become my new favorite place. Everything was cooked to perfection, and nothing felt haphazardly thrown together. I've never had a better shrimp and scallops dish in my life, and the half chicken was mind blowing. It was seasoned perfectly too and everything had a bold, robust flavor (that is something to keep in mind though- I love big flavors, but my husband likes milder ones so it may not fit everyone's palette). This restaurant impressed me not only the tasty food but also the excellent service. it was one of the best service I had ever experienced. We had soup of the day-shrimp corn bisque. It was flavorful with hint of spiciness. The steak frite I ordered was a 6 oz grill sirloin, toped with pomme frites, marinated shiitakes, arugula, in a red wine reduction.
