Uptown Saggio's is a great time. They have a fun little bar area and of course the food is to die for. I hadn't eaten there in a long time and I was so glad my friend mentioned it, because I was long overdue for a baked ziti. The baked ziti is hands down my favorite. Large pasta, zesty marinara sauce, layers of delicious creamy ricotta cheese, and topped with melted, mozzarella. Sooooo good. My son had their pizza slice which was huge and my friend had the Napoli sandwich with pasta salad. It looked amazing! The portions are a great size! We also ordered brownie cheesecake, cannoli, and red velvet cake. They had so many flavors of cheesecake to offer! The service was quick and very kind. I will definitely remember to go back sooner! Bravo! I mean bravo! My compliments to the chef on this one! Last night I got real curious about the uptown location after visiting the old location near UNM. I had heard that one of them was better than the other so I was very curious to find out which that was. Last night it was a site for sore eyes! The staff was stellar! Very friendly and very accommodating. Those who know me know I freaking love cheese! That being said you know I had to make sure my calzone had plenty. Let me tell ya they did not disappoint. Before handing it to me they let me take a gander. Omg that thing was a work of art. It was so beautiful. When they asked what I thought I said it's perfect! Like a bandit I ran for home with this treasure. I saw a raccoon sitting on the dumpster next to where I parked and I clenched that box ready to fight if I had too. I got inside took that first bite and I was in heaven. The crust had the perfect crunch, the gooey cheese layered between the savory pepperonis sent my taste buds on overdrive. Combined with the sauce I thought I died and went to heaven for a moment. It was that freaking good. Thank you Saggios in Uptown for restoring my faith in calzones. I've been searching high and low for a great one in town since my go to place recently closed shop at the new year. I'm so glad I came in. For real my compliments! Great pizza and salad. Reminded me of Nunzios from when I was young and is run by the family that used to have Nunzios. I had a slice of pepperoni and a Caesar salad. They were both delicious! Pizza was crisp and the marinara sauce had a great flavor. They run a special of a one topping slice and a draft for $9.95 which is a great deal! My server Judi was very friendly and attentive. Worst place to eat on a Saturday night!!!! I wanted to try one of their specialty sandwiches I was told that they were not making sandwiches and needed to order something different! I just don't understand what is it in Albuquerque New Mexico every restaurant you go they refuse or never have what they claim to be on a menu! I think it's the mentality of not being responsible or having any type of integrity to their patrons. First off, they charged me for a full and only gave me a half sandwich but what got me really upset is when I went to pay, they told me it was 36 dollars and change, and today when I looked at what they charged me it was 49.47. I don't recommend this restaurant. I had the shrimp scampi which was flavorless and just oily with pasta. They wanted to charge me for a glass of water too but didn't. Really? My friend had a green salad and slice of pepperoni pizza. While she finished her salad it was just a bunch of lettuce and a few tomatoes. She didn't finish her slice. I've been on Keto for 1 and 1/2 months and was really craving an actual good pizza. I used to be a Dion's fan until they decided to increase their pizza prices by an insane margin. They lost a customer for life...I've spent $1000s over there. From a few friends to personal parties, to team parties etc. Before Keto I had ordered a pizza from Pizza Hut and was hugely disappointed in the entire experience and I never got my final farewell to delicious carbs. So with these things in mind I set out to find a new pizza to call my own. I searched for online reviews...best pizza in town. Saggio's was in the list but not at the top....and I remember from previous experiences I never had a complaint....besides the location. I was surprised to see they opened a new place 5 minutes from my house. I read reviews...and didn't see the best reviews but I decided to go with my gut and give it a try. Not disappointed at all. I got there and it had a similar ambiance as the Cornell location. Very bright. It had a great painting on the roof.... Creation of Adam. It brought back memories of their original location and I became more than excited. Me and my wife sat at the bar and decided to have a beer and ordered TO GO. The Bartender worked diligently. Business oriented man. Extremely clean bar. I was impressed. I also noticed the bartender, took our order, was serving guests, and then he also went back and made my pizza. This dude was doing like 3-5 peoples job. I've worked in the restaurant space and I noticed the hustle. I appreciated seeing someone with work ethic. Someone not afraid to work. I have also seen other comments about this same man. And I believe they mistake his professional attitude as rude. Sure he's a bit short when it comes to small talk but the dude works. I can relate to him as well. Nothing is worse than having to work 3-4 jobs and get paid for 1 of them. I would give this guy a raise. Either way the pizza was delicious. I was worried about the $3.50 up charge for toppings on the giant pizza.... but they put $3.50 of the topping on your pizza. So you get what you pay for. And thats a good thing. I will be going back to Saggio's probably in May when I will allow myself to eat another Carby Pizza. read more

Went here on a Sunday and it was sorta busy. They seemed to be spread very thin. The service was not great and everyone was very brief and rude a couple of times. We ordered the half fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and the pizza drink and bread stick combo. We also got a cannoli. The bread was amazing. I'd come again for it alone. The pizza was delicious and the fettuccine while bland looking was full of flavor. The cannoli was good. We witnessed them charge an old lady for ranch which seems weird to be nickel and diming people when they're a chain. When we needed a drink the line was really long and we asked one of the workers for a refill as he was going to clean tables and he told us to get in line. (He was also helping at the counter.) The artwork is cool but confusing as I'm not sure what fish have to do with pasta and pizza. Overall not a bad experience and the bread was to die for. I've been a returning customer for over 10 years. Saggio's pizza is the best in town, period. Ever since my college days, Saggio's was always my go-to-place for pizza (there used to be a location inside UNM campus). Although the pizza thickness seems to have gotten thinner over the years, I love Saggio's still. I order Saggio's giant size once a month. Cost about $30 for a full giant pie but it's worth it. My favorite pizza in Albuquerque. Dion's is overrated. The best pizza I've ever had in my life was in Chicago but Saggio's is almost close enough. I definitely recommend it. read more

I went to this place to watch Sunday afternoon football as I wanted to have a slice with a beer. The service was extremely slow as the bartender was also the cook, making a pizza. When he finally arrived to the bar area where I was sitting, I told him I wanted a beer. He asked for ID, then asked what type of beer I wanted. He quickly said he was "not comfortable" serving me. I was puzzled and asked why, he said he could not give a reason. I then went to Uptown Sports bar which was nearby, and got service with no issues whatsoever. Ordered wings with a brew. Extremely puzzled as to why I was not served at this (Saggios Uptown) place, a real dissapointment. I been going to the Saggios near the UNM for years with no issues. Sorry to say, but this was a disappointing experience. What saved it was the staff: Angelita at the counter took my order, and she was delightful, fun, courteous, engaging, very pleasant and helpful. Not wanting anything too heavy so late in the evening, I opted for the potato gnocchi with the pesto cream sauce. Perhaps I shd hv gone along with the recommended dishes but again, didn't want anything too heavy or too spicy and acidic. I luv potato gnocchi with pesto (I didn't think the cream should make that much difference, and it didn't, one way or another, just bland); it's one of my fave dishes in Italy. This is not the iteration you want. I don't know if the pasta at Saggio's is homemade, but my gnocchi was vastly undercooked. It was mushy dough-y. I brought the plate back to the counter where the friendly staff who'd handed me the dish initially were still congregated and informed them. One of the young ladies said, "it's supposed to be dough-y; that's what they are: dumplings". Um, I let her know I've had gnocchi before - and there is a vast difference between what was served and gnocchi cooked properly. They asked if I'd like it re-done; I said no, as I'd lost my appetite. Did I want a refund; I declined: I just wanted them to know so they could address it. My stomach got queasy later in the evening, but no nausea or vomiting, so, ok. I hv a foodie friend who thinks one cannot mess up Italian food so she sees it as less sophisticated; she is clearly wrong, case in point. I think my anticipated experience was colored by meals at the original Saggio's at UNM where I am enamored with one particular entree, so I thought we'd be at that level. It's not. What this space at the Coronado Mall does have going for it, in addition to the aforementioned terrific Angelita, is a spacious dining area and huge TV screens where a terrific battle was going on between the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills. It will likely be awhile before I return but I'd like to think that one bad meal shouldn't ruin a place forever in my eyes and will give this place another try, but I'll think hard, maybe see if there's a kid size piattino of gnocchi available. read more

I loved Saggio's back in the good ol' UNM days. I haven't been in years as I'm hardly ever in that area anymore. Then I heard that an Uptown one was opening and...omg. I was stoked! I believe they opened in the late fall 2021 and I finally had a chance to visit today. If you're expecting something like the Cornell one, I have some good news and bad news. It really depends what draws you to the Cornell one. The good news: the menu is similar to what I remember. It didn't have one of the calzones we used to love to get but I'm not even sure it's available at Cornell anymore (sweet and spicy calzone...like the best thing on the planet). The location is also fantastic- it is situated on the Louisiana side of Coronado between Fudruckers and Kohls so is pretty easy to get to and find. The new location is definitely a facelift from the Cornell location and is much more sleek, modern, and feels upscale casual with a MASSIVE TV screen in the bar area which was pretty cool. Basically, it's got the familiar vibe of Saggio's but with an Uptown attitude. There's an argument to be made that's not the Saggios vibe at all but they each have their character. The Uptown location will likely appeal to folks who may not care for the Cornell location. Some people like the charm of the weird layout and kinda divey vibe. Uptown Sag is not that by any stretch of the imagination. I failed on a number of levels and completely forgot to take pictures but they do have a huge mural in the Uptown location. One of my favorite things to do at the Cornell location was to find cool stuff hidden in the huge NM mural. It would be super cool if Uptown had something similar. Uptown is much more sleek, modern, and (obviously) new spot. I dig it although it doesn't fit the Saggios that I had ingrained in my memory. Now the food. Hubby got a sandwich and they're massive as anyone would come to expect if they know Saggios. The pasta salad is exactly how I remember- it was like a bite of nostalgia. I had the slice and salad combo. The house salad was nothing to write home about but everything was fresh, the dressing was good. The pizza was as good as many of the other spots around town and I appreciated that it wasn't at all greasy. The prices were pretty reasonable as well, especially since it seems every time we go out to eat there's sticker shock. Same deal as the other location where you order at the counter. Staff was friendly and helpful. We didn't have anything at the bar but it's a really nice bar area with a massive tap selection of local beers (mainly La Cumbre and Marble). They also looked to have some decent wine as well. Prices were very reasonable ($5.50/pint). Overall, I really enjoyed finally visiting and we'll definitely be back. read more

Now we all know that the sequel rarely measures up to the original. For those Burquenos that are aware I'd the original Saggios location near UNM on central, you may wonder if the sequel has what it takes to measure up to the original. It is hard to measure up to the unique ambiance of the original location, but the location at Coronado mall is its own spaces with the same good pizza. The menu is not As extensive, but most of the staples are still present. Did I mention the pizza is still the same good pizza?! They have a full on bar, with plenty of tvs to watch the game, which made the original such a fun place to be! I'm not sure if the new place will capture that in the same way since it is probably attracting the mall scene clientele. However, it gives a great space for dads to escape to watch the game and have a slice, cuz who doesn't want pizza after shopping?! It definitely doesn't have the same ambience but the food is good and the service is better at this location then the UNM area location! I say give 'em a try after a long day of shopping! read more

We've eaten at the midtown location and liked what was served. This location has recently opened and is a completely opposite of the midtown locale. This one is smaller but modern, open and bright. It has a bar area complete with a huge central TV and a few others surrounding it. Also menu is smaller. Missing are some pasta & salad options. Choosing lunch was still easy. A build your own calzone and penne green chile chicken pasta. As usual the calzone was enough for 2, stuffed with meat & veggies and baked just right. Good thing I got an extra marinara. The pasta was not over cooked, nicely seasoned and flavorful. There was a decent amount of chicken & it was moist. Not a bad meal with plenty to take home for later. read more

They said since they can't confirm if there was chicken in it, there's nothing they can do. They wanted our dish that had two bites taken out of it. BEST EXPERIENCE Hands down, that we've had in a while. The staff was friendly, food was fast and incredible. We were able to eat and enjoy our time and watch the Lobo game all at the same time. The restaurant was clean and inviting. I NEED ONE ON THE WESTSIDE, preferably in Rio Rancho close to Rust but will take it anywhere closer than Uptown. I don't like the original location, not because of anything more than the area so UPTOWN is our only option. But living and working on the Westside make it a trek to have a great meal. However, she was indeed going to ordering, since I was already making my order with the service attendant. His tone and facial expressions were completely ride and left us in shock, even the service attendant apologized for his demeanor. We left with complete disappointment, the manager refused to apologize and continued to want to argue. I thanked him and left, sadly not returning. This is the second time we have been to this location, both times have been on a Sunday afternoon, between 1pm and 3pm. Both times, we had the unfortunate opportunity to be greeted by a young man at the register (I did not catch his name because he wasn't wearing a name tag) whom did not have any customer service training. The young man did not look at you while you were ordering, instead he was looking around making it seem like he's not listening or maybe there was something he'd rather be doing. I ordered, he then asked what sides I wanted with the sandwich. I said, "chips". He then replied, "we don't have any", and left it at that, did not offer any other options. All of the tables were full, we found a table but it needed to be wiped down. I went back to the counter and asked if we could have our table wiped down. The same young man proceeded to hand me the wet rag and spray bottle. I then told him, I don't want to wipe down the table. The food is great, the environment is fun. But if they want people to have an even better experience, this young man needs to be moved to a position where the customers do not have to interact with him.
