Let me start off by saying the decor of this place is gorgeous. From the ceiling that is lit up like stars in the night and the floor to ceiling murals of Portugal on the walls near the bar, this place is very classy and a place to bring a date! It was my first time having goat Portuguese style and it was a great meal. I made the right choice. The portions are huge! Plenty leftover to take home. The Portuguese steak was ok. It's made with sirloin cut beef and wasn't all that tender. They did however cook it as requested (medium). I wish the egg was runny but it wasn't it was a fried egg. The Portuguese soup needed a little salt and pepper but overall it was good. read more

I'd suggest finding somewhere else to spend your hard earned money, came here for dinner tonight and meal was subpar and also once we finished our meals and spent over $200 the owner came over to "politely" ask us to leave due to the amount of people waiting ,mind you we had sangria and wine that we didn't get to finish. We left but never plan to come back again and wouldn't suggest it to anyone else. There are far better Portuguese restaurants in New England that would love to have your business. read more

We went to Sagres last Saturday night with our friends. We split an order of fried calamari to start and all had different entrees. My wife had chicken on a skewer, one of our friends had the pork chop, another had a shrimp appetizer that they served as an entree, and I had the grilled octopus. Everyone raved about the food and my grilled octopus was one of the best meals I've had in a while. read more

After trying to call to place a takeout order for over a half hour, I finally decided to drive over to see if they were open, which they were. I go inside and there is a male employee who asks if he can help me. I tell him I wanted to place a takeout order. He responds we're not taking takeout orders, the phone is off the hook cause we are jammed with reservations. He then reluctantly asks me what I wanted to order to take out, takes my order and tells me to come back in so much time. I understand they are jammed up with reservations because of COVID, but takeout in a time like this is how most restaurant businesses are staying afloat because of take out. And his poor attitude that I was inconveniencing him was very uncalled for and reflects poorly on the business. Hopefully the food will be worth all the trouble and disappointment I went through to get it considering this is such as desired restaurant by many people I know. read more

The food was alright, however significantly overpriced. Enjoyed our night with a party of 6, until the ignorant owner of the restaurant decided to "politely" ask us to leave since we already paid our check of over $250. Not to mention, we caught the same ignorant owner reprimanding our sweet and lovely waitress to come clear our table because we all had finished eating. It is also important to note that as we were leaving the restaurant a party of 4 walking behind us were also very vocal about how unhappy they were with his behavior. read more

It was meh... Got cod with roasted potatoes and veggies. The string beans and broccoli tasted like dirty dish water, or foul fish. I was with a group and my friend said her veggies tasted like metal. Disappointed December 4, 2020. Our group of 8 was seated at a table that had a lot of food scraps and breadcrumbs on the floor. My girlfriend's "medium rare" steak was served blood red and absolutely cold. Sent it back, and it came back bright red again after 15 minutes. The third time back it was actually medium rare, but by that time the entire party had almost finished its meal. The bartender was a real piece of work. We had to wait a while for our table, so we all sat at the bar. During the first few minutes of talking and deciding on a bottle of wine, this woman asked my sister in a bitchy tone, "are you going to just sit at "MY" bar waiting for your table without ordering drinks?". We all ordered drinks. Our meals took forever to be served and my and my sister's" peixe a Portuguesa" (cod and potatoes) had the tiniest bit of cod beneath a mountain of potatoes. Smaller than a credit card. Maybe 1/8 ounce. $21 each for a pile of potatoes. And cod was the fish of the day. read more

Very tasty food! I had only lived in Fall River for roughly 3 months when a friend mentioned this restaurant to me. When my mother came up from VA I decided to splurge and treat ourselves to what I had heard would be a good meal. I was not disappointed! My mother got the paella and I got a steak. The price Point is a little expensive but it is well worth the portion sizes they give you. There will be plenty of leftovers! Enjoy! read more

My wife and i with another couple and there son had dinner here saturday night. My wife had kale soup which tasted watered down and she had salmon for her entre which was way overcooked. I had lamb chops which were cooked well but the port wine sauce was bland a veggies had no seasonig no taste. My freind had the octapus which came out burnt and his wife and sons meals were just ok. We ordered rice pudding and the rice was so overcooked it was like mushy.We heard so much hipe about this place but itdid not deliver for 250.00 dollars i expected alot more. read more

After several recommendations my father and I stopped in for dinner on a Saturday early evening. Parking was a bit of a pain and ended up a couple blocks away. The host seating us was grumpy but we were seating quickly at a high top by the bar. Lighting was very dim and tough to see the menu. Being a little out of sight the service was a slow but not terrible. I ordered an entree of monk fish and shrimp with rice and gravy which was PHENOMENAL. Reminded me of a paella or jambalaya. Tender fish and succulent shrimp. Couldn't eat it all so took home for a 2nd meal. My father got the Portuguese steak and had nothing but good things to say about it. What was our #1 Portuguese Fall River restaurant has now ranked down to 2! With reservations for 7:30, my family and I arrived and were brought to a table that had no settings - not even a table cover. The waitress came over to ask what we wanted and let her know we were not ready to order since the table was not ready to be eaten off of-- about 15 minutes after we sat. We ordered an appetizer cheese that came with NO bread. The table bread took almost 20 minutes to be refilled and at that they were burnt from being heated up in an oven- not fresh. Dinner was ok. Expect the the prices to be obsessively increased! My husband and I ordered order a bottle of wine that cost $8.99 literally up the street at Portugalia- we paid $28.99. Be careful to all those who think this is still a 5 star- operating more like a 2 star!!! read more

Started with littleneck clams in olive oil, both the octopus and duck in port wine as appetizers. Everything was fantastic. The duck was tender and cooked to perfection, the octopus was so tender it melted in your mouth. The clams in olive oil and garlic was so yummy we went through two portions of bread sopping up the sauce. Main entrees was paella And rib eye. The paella was excellent; lobster, calamari, scallops, sausage, chicken and seemingly endless shrimp in rice. the ribeye cooked a perfect medium rare was delicious and served with rice, vegetables and freshly sliced fired potato chips. Our waitress Andrea was wonderful. Parking in the lot could be tight but there's plenty of street parking. Would definitely go back when in the area. read more

This place is fantastic. We got take out and had an hour ride home and we're a little worried it would not be good. Take out is tough on its own never mind with an hour drive. The food was excellent. We got the caldo verde soup, carne de porco a alentejana , and the bacalhau a Gomes de sa. The food was all to die for. The soup was very good. The pork had a great spice with the broth and with the clams and potatoes was excellent. The bacalhau was just perfectly done. I highly recommend going here and I know I will go back. read more

It was dry and very salty. Being of the type that firmly believes that every good restaurant can have a bad day, I decided to give them another try. The first couple times we went several years ago, we thought we had died and gone to Portuguese food heaven that would make Fall Rivers own Chef Emerill Lagassi proud. Only to learn the restaurant burned to the ground. From the ashes rose Sagres' rebirth (ok, so it took us five years to realize it had reopened - kicking ourselves that we've missed this gem). We've gone the last two Sundays and have been treated to two of the best, authentic Portuguese style meals (and midweek leftovers) we've ever had. Attentive, Christine's knowledgeable and friendly bar service, incredible small plates and 'how can anyone eat this in one sitting' entrees set in a 'if you could design a fabulous restaurant' environment. Being 100% Portuguese myself, I'm confident that this is the one of the most authentic Portuguese restaurants this city has to offer, and there are many. It's my first choice. The best way to experience saudade for yourself is by listening to fado music: a melodic, melancholy mix of Iberian and African influences that's best described as the Portuguese version of the blues. And one of the finest places to hear live fado, every Friday night, is over dinner at Sagres restaurant in Fall River. Sagres offers hearty doses of both Portuguese cuisine, and Portuguese culture. The prices are extremely reasonable; the service, expectedly excellent. The vibe is European all the way, with house wine and delectable seafood, chicken and steak options on the menu. Being a creature of habit, I almost always order the Portuguese steak: a flattened serving of steak swimming in a delectable garlic sauce with rice and fries. Don't forget the fried egg sitting atop the steak. This dish is swoon-worthy. For dessert, don't even think of ordering anything but the ubiquitous and dreamy, custardy flan, with a little glass of port. Friday night guests get the added benefit of hearing a fado singer (usually female, a fadista) accompanied by guitarists. It may feel as though it's your own heart strings they're pulling, rather than their instruments. Whether or not you speak the language, the plaintive, pained notes of the singer, whose voice can break at points during the song, are moving enough to give you goosebumps. The ambiance lacks some warmth and charm, but I have noticed this to be the case in many of the area's best Portuguese restaurants. What is missing in the appearance is more than made up for by the product. Much Iike the Portuguese themselves, substance is favored over flash. So there's no chandelier, cheesy wall mural or yellow gold gilt trim; the stuff that matters most is outstanding, so you won't see me complaining. The soul-enriching benefits of a European vacation are undeniable. But when that's not an option, the real deal is found close to home in Fall River or New Bedford, and at Sagres in particular. On a low key Sunday, my husband and I decided to visit Fall River, Mass to explore the amazing Portuguese heritage in the area (also because we're suckers for fresh seafood and chorizo). We attempted to visit the acclaimed Portugalia (a highly rated local market) but unfortunately got there too late on a Sunday. Fortunately, Sagres was open for reservations and we jumped on the chance to visit this local treasure. As we were walking in, we ran into a couple diners leaving, and we asked how their dinner was. With huge smiles on their faces, they said it was amazing, and it was their first time back since the place burned down. Burned down? I would have had no idea. Everything was fresh and updated and seemed liked it was always that way. First impression after sitting down: It's always a good sign when you visit a restaurant and the parties on either side of you are speaking Portuguese to the waitstaff :). This was a true Portuguese community with a strong sense of family. The menu was straight forward with tons of seafood, chorizo, beef and pork. Little neck clams are a spotlighted ingredient on many of the dishes. We opted for paella. Just look at the pictures. It's huge and jam packet with shrimp, scallops, clams, chicken, calamari, chorizo, and what seemed to be a half lobster. It was not dry with a crust like many paellas, but more of the juicy deep dish variety. The broth on its own was amazing, and a perfect complement to the Portuguese bread on the table. We ended up having enough to take home for dinner the next night, and the flavors may have been even better then! Thanks for the great dinner, Sagres.
