All that yummy platters I ate today (07/26/2024.)
István K.

Question: Is your lentil soup made with chicken broth or vegetable broth? Answer: Vegetable broth of course! Me: Great! Question: Does you use anchovies in your Greek salad dressing? Answer: no, we have homemade dressing without anchovies! Me: Perfect! Question: (I thought I was going to get him with this one.) Do you fry the falafels in... (Interrupted before I could finish asking.) -In vegetable oil, sir! Me: Awesome! That's what I call a perfect 10. Since Yelp allows only 5 stars :( There you have it, and thank you so much for Sahara Cafe Restaurant for catering to peculiar costumers and for the excellent quality food! Highly recommended this restaurant in Gretna, LA for the sophisticated vegetarians!

It was my first time eating here and it was definitely worth it!!! The customer service was great, you are greeted as soon as you walk in. You seat yourself but they are very attentive. We went at slow time so it was only 2 other customers there. Everything was so flavorful and clean. We were all stuffed but didn't feel sick. The hummus and the half and half are my favorite. I look forward to going back. They also have a lot of vegetarian options which I thought was nice but didn't get to try any.

This is a small place in a shopping center. It's Dingy. The ceiling tiles were old and stained. There was one guy waiting tables and bussing tables. The food was good. I got the gyro plate and the half and half. The meat was crispy on one side and juicy and tender. Humas and pita were awesome. Zaater bread was heavily spiced and delicious.

Second time I came for a private event. Very nice exclusive upstairs private event space and bar, I loved the interior. I had delicious pomegranate lemonade mocktail. I loved the fried chicken hummus, Mediterranean cucumber salad, Brussels chicken, steak the most. Everything was amazing and flavorful, I don't think you can go wrong. The cinnamon date dessert just tasted like bread XD but overall I would totally come back! I think I prefer the sister restaurant though Parking: limited parking lot, limited street parking

The reservation process was easy, and I was able to find a time that worked well for us. We arrived and were seated promptly, and our initial order was taken without delay. We went for the falafel and hummus combo, along with a variety of dips like baba ghanoush and muhammara. The food was good and offered a nice spread of flavors. We were specially impressed with the muhammara .We also ordered drinks and had planned to get another round, but unfortunately no one came back to take our order, so we eventually decided to move on. The ambiance is beautiful--bright, airy, and very neutral with a beige-toned aesthetic. Seating was comfortable, though the noise level was a bit high, likely due to it being a busy lunch hour. Pricing reflects the restaurant's popularity and positioning. Overall, it was a decent experience, but not particularly memorable. If I return to New Orleans, this probably wouldn't make it back onto my list.

Order taken quickly at the counter: gyro wrap w/side of yellow rice, an order of Dolmas (8) and a soda. With tax & tip $34.88. Sat at a booth type table for comfort, only to discover we had to tip toe around the messy floor and I kicked away a ball of something rather than squish it. Husband said wrap was tasty but didn't remember they use a wrap instead of a pita for the gyro sandwich. (I had the gyro on our last visit.) Rice was good. My dolmas, however, were gross. I don't dip them in tzatziki, I typically like the taste. However, today the rice inside them was very, very gooey, as if they sat over the holiday. I ate 2.5 and threw the rest out. Someone came out to ask how things were but apparently didn't notice they were standing on rice. I didn't say anything about the dolmas, because by this time they were in the trash. Took home the remaining portion of the gyro, rice & tzatziki. Asked for a to go box, then asked again for lids for the sauce. Both times I interrupted someone playing on their phone, and the rest of the staff was hanging out talking behind the counter. Really wished they had taken the time to check the dining area.

All of the local Turkish community have been elated that we finally had an authentic Turkish restaurant in the area. When recently sold it to their friends, we were a little concerned if the restaurant would maintain the quality of the food and the service.Well, let me tell you that last night all my fears were alleviated. For the past few days, I have been hosting some Turkish friends and ee were trying different restaurants, I have been trying to expose them to some of our local cuisine. Last night they wanted to try Istanbul Grill even though they normally eat at some of the best restaurants in Türkiye. Our dinner resulted in excellent experience because we were greeted warmly with a typical Turkish hospitality. We had the meze combo and mixed grill plate. We had the Turkish baklava, baked muhallebi, and künefe for desert. The food was top notch. My Turkish guests rated the food five stars. So, thank you very much Istanbul Grill, because you are not just a restaurant but representative of our culinary and hospitality culture.

Came with 5 pieces on hummus. They were fried to perfection with a crunch. I wanted to try a pasta, cheese dish with pistachios, but I will have to savor that next time as it was a dessert & I was there for dinner. Ordered the lamb kebab which comes with two sides- of your choice--I selected bulgar and salad. The entree also came with bread--thicker and toasted, and two sauces. The lamb was so tender I could pull it apart with my fingers. My cat enjoyed some leftovers!! I had the delicious meal with a turkish coffee. Packed the leftovers and enjoyed it the next day and it was just as tasty!!
