I kind of like pulling into a strange town, middle of nowhere, that I have no idea what the town name means, or how it is even pronounced. Cle Elum is a non-stoplight town (as the mayor proclaims in his 'welcome' section of the free newspaper) and was built as a logging town, later coal mining, and was a stop on the westward roll of the Northern Pacific Railway. The town was pretty much wiped out from a fire in 1918, which destroyed 29 square blocks of buildings. Only one building remains from that era. I had just come through the Snoqualmie Pass, was making my way east on US Hwy 2, which I am navigating across the US in short spurts, and was tired and hungry. After cruising the entire strip of the town looking at the motel options, I turned around in the parking lot of "GIANT BURGERS SERVED ON FRENCH BREAD" (it wasn't open, damn!), and settled on the Traveler's Inn, a modest motel whose sign assured me they had "FREE WIFI". Funny how that's changed over the years, the 'come-on'? I remember when those signs said "It's COOOOOOOL inside," or "Color TV". Now it's wifi and breakfast. I have sure had some pitiful "continental breakfasts" on this trip. Perhaps the skimpiest was the Good Nite Inn, in Calabasas, CA. (Where guests also have to sign a pledge that they will BE QUIET at night!) GOOD NITE! Checked in the Traveler's Inn, with the help of Mr. Patel, who assured me that the 'wifi was very good'. The room was very small but immaculate. The motel filled up as the night went on with contract workers for the Bonneville Power Association, I guess they were either clearing timber or maintaining lines. The were a rag-tag looking crew. Settled, connected to the internets, it was time to peruse my dinner options, I was really in the mood for a sit down, leisurely meal, but Cel Elum (local Indian word roughly meaning "swift water"), offered few choices beyond coffee shops. I had spotted a few billboards for Sahara Pizza on this trip ("The Hottest Place in Town"), which I learned later was a modest sized chain in the Pacific Northwest, and two locations in Boliva (????) (the country). So when I spotted one in downtown Cle Elum, I figured I'd grab a pie, go back to my motel, and catch up with my online work. The sign outside promised there was a pool table and games inside, but once inside, the greeter board said "excuse our dust, we are remodeling", and the seating area was pretty decimated, and gaming stored away somewhere. It may have also said under new ownership, or management, IIRC. I ordered a medium, Pepp, Sausage, and Double Cheese, and a couple of cans of Diet Coke. There was a brief discussion about whether or not they could change a hundred dollar bill, and I asked where the nearest ATM was, just in case, and that was an enigma to the employees, they didn't seem to be able to tell me that. (Turns out they did have change for a hundred, and there was an ATM directly across the street). 15 minutes later the pie was out, I was on my way back to the no-tell motel, and digging into to the pie, which was a lot better than I could have hoped for. Some of their POP materials states that "they use the finest mozzarella money can buy", and I don't know about that, but it was pretty good. Toppings were ample, crust was firm, sauce was a little sweet for my taste, but not to the point of my not liking it. The famous "BurgerDogBoy how is it the next day after sitting out all nite" test was passed with flying colors. Sahara is a good choice. If I rated this pizza on the worstpizza.com scale, it would get 6 out of 8 slices

Expensive pile of cheese. Decent crust but it was literally just cheese with a small amount of toppings. Not worth it

I'm a pizza enthusiast who's eaten at just about every pizza place in Upper Kittitas County. Miners…read moreis easily one of my favorites. I never accept payment for reviews, and I wait until I've visited several times before writing one because a single visit doesn't always represent a business fairly. This review comes after roughly 10 visits. Size The family pizza is enormous. It barely fits in our oven as a take-and-bake, but Miners also offers ready-to-eat pizzas if that's easier. Ours had 12 large slices, plenty for two adults and two young kids. Value Our meal averaged about $16 per person after tax, including a family pizza and garlic cheese bread. Compared with other local pizza, Miners is typically $2 to $6 cheaper while delivering excellent quality. Take-and-Bake Tip Every oven is different. If your pizza seems floppy, especially in the center, it probably needs a few more minutes. I look for browned cheese and what I call the pizza's "heartbeat," the gentle bubbling motion across the top. Once you see that, the crust is usually right where it should be. Flavor The pizza strikes a great balance. The sauce is flavorful and slightly zesty without overpowering the toppings, and the fresh ingredients really stand out. The crust isn't buried under butter or salt. The take-and-bake has a thinner, crispier crust, while the ready-to-eat version has a firmer crust that reminds me of New York style. If the take-and-bake crust isn't your favorite, definitely try a fresh slice. The toppings are well balanced. This isn't Chicago-style loaded with pounds of toppings, but it's far from skimpy. Everything feels proportioned just right. Recommendation If you like taco pizza, don't skip theirs. My wife is incredibly picky about taco pizza, and this is the only one she'll eat anywhere in Washington. Desserts The desserts are fantastic. We've tried cookies, cheesecake brownies, and several other treats, and they've all been excellent. They also make custom cakes for special occasions. Atmosphere The shop is cozy and celebrates Roslyn's mining history. There's a small dining area, a window bar for people-watching, and a little arcade room. It's especially fun during festivals and community events. Staff The staff is consistently friendly and helpful. Ashley, the owner, is often working alongside her team and genuinely cares about customers. If something isn't right, they'll make it right. Community This place feels like a true small-town gathering spot. It seems like every visit includes someone running into friends and catching up. Bonus Miners also offers catering and, through a partnership, has a limited selection of pizzas available at the new arcade in Roslyn. If you're looking for some of the best pizza in Upper Kittitas County, Miners absolutely deserves a visit.

Got a take and take and it was delicious! Lived up to expectations! Would definitely go back.read more

From the stunning views over the valley below, to the tasty cocktails, to the wonderful eats it was a great way to chillax on a lovely Saturday evening. Having had a not-great experience with wine (at a different venue) earlier in the day, we opted for cocktails here. My extra dirty martini with cheese-stuffed olives was phenomenal, and my friend enjoyed her old fashioned. We shared a roasted beet and burrata salad as an appy, then moved on to our main courses - I got the prime tenderloin and she got the cider glazed pork. We washed it all down with a couple of chocolate espresso martinis for dessert. My tenderloin was cooked to perfection, and accompanied by some sweet little roasted carrots and a lovely heap of mashed potatoes. My friend reported that her pork was more like a stew, and she really enjoyed it. What really put our experience here over the top was the absolutely amazing service we received, especially from our waiter, Trevor. He was friendly, funny, and helped us navigate the menu when we couldn't decide what to get. He also told us a little about the geological history of the area, which is built over an old coal mine. Perfectly fried and paired so well with the intense and rich flavor of the coconut curry broth. The halibut was seriously the star of the show, you can tell it is fresh by the quality of the meat. I was having fomo so we ordered the ribeye medallion crusted with potatoes and I wish we wouldn't have. It was the most bland dish I have had recently. I don't think the ribeye or the potatoes were seasoned. I get that it came on a sweet onion jam, but that was just sweet. There was no salt or pepper coming through at all on the meat or potatoes. I wish we would have sent it back. I am just not that person. Luckily with enough fresh ground pepper and salt at the table, it made edible. We told our server, she didn't seem to care. We decided we couldn't end on a bad note with the ribeye medallion, so we got the lemon tiramisu. I have never heard of lemon tiramisu. It was so good. I highly recommend. I saw the chop tomahawk come out of the kitchen multiple times and it looked amazing. Ambiance is great. There is an open kitchen so that can be loud.
