I have been here three times (I live in Oklahoma). I love visiting though. I am craving it and my mouth is watering as I am typing this review. I have always gotten the fish and do the the traditional rolls with the mam nem sauce. I really think it's all in the flavor of the fish and the dipping sauce that can make it or break it for the meal. Saigon Block as gotten it down in their sauce. Recently I tried the appetizer with the snails dipped in ginger garlic fish sauce and I must say I am impressed! If you check in on Yelp you get a free appetizer. You can easily spend over $50 here if you order a fish. For my husband and I we shared the medium fish and we demolished it. Everything is delicious and I am very impressed. If you like bo bay mon or nem nuong they also have that too. They have pho, and other noodles dishes. I haven't tried them but I have no doubt it's all delicious. Saigon Block has been a family favorite for the last ~10 years and speaks for itself as one of the top Vietnamese restaurants in the area. It's our go-to for a "fun" dining experience and is a great place to take out-of-town visitors to. They have all your basic pho, vermicelli, and rice plates that a typical Vietnamese restaurant has but they are most well-known for their Ca Nuong Da Gion (baked catfish w/crispy skin) and Bo 7 Mon (7 courses of beef). I love making my own spring rolls - I enjoy a meal more when I have to put some work into it. The baked catfish comes with rice paper, fresh & pickled vegetables, vermicelli, and a delicious dipping sauce (mam nem). The crispy skin on the catfish and the sweet but slightly pungent mam nem are to die for. The fish comes in medium, large, and extra-large - the extra-large is definitely enough to feed my ravenous family of 5. We also like to add an order of the bo la lot (grilled beef wrapped in lolot leaves). I highly recommend. If you're feeling a little lazy about putting together your own food or not as adventurous then their pho, vermicelli, and rice plates are all pretty solid. We love this place for their baked catfish! Catfish came out to be so crunchy and the umami's sauce! The dipping sauce was so good it's very umami. The second you look inside, you'll see every table with a healthy spread of assorted greens (greenleaf lettuce, Thai Basil, and bean sprouts). Most customers order (ca nuong), a specially-prepared whole catfish with crispy skin and tender flesh. You can eat the fish alone or wrapped with fresh veggies in a sheet of rice paper (immediately softens when briefly dipped in a bowl of water). They have a special dipping sauce too. I'm sure from all the reviews and pictures, you can tell that this place is known for their signature ca nuong (baked/fried catfish) dish. Let me tell you that all the high reviews and delicious pictures are more than deserving and fitting. There is a yelp check in for a free appetizer and we chose the Cha Oc, which is a pork and snail paste. It was served on sugar cane and pretty tasty. We ordered the medium sized ca nuong (only comes in medium or large) and they brought out the rice paper (with hot water to roll your own), rice noodles, fresh vegetables, fish dipping sauce for the table. The fish came out and it was as delicious as it looked. The herbs and seasonings of fried shallots, garlic, and green onions really help bring out more flavors. The dipping sauce was just addicting. There were three of us and we easily finished the fish. Definitely will order the large size next time. The meal was delicious and I cannot wait to come back again for this same dish. We do come here frequently when we are in Dallas. It tends to have good food and good ambiance. And it is clean - especially for a Vietnamese restaurant. We arrived at 8pm tonight and we were starving. Even at that late hour, there was a 20 minute wait quoted. Within minutes, a long table that seated approximately 14 people left. However, no one cleaned the table. We waited much longer than 20 minutes. Everyone comes here for the fish. So we did get to put in our fish order while we waited on the table. Once we were finally seated, we ordered our drinks and added an order of the fried chicken wings. When they brought our drinks, they were short one cup of water. Had to ask several times for it. We also needed another plate. I lost track of how many times we asked for it. Then we inquired about our chicken wings, they had to find out what was going on with it. They came back out to tell us that they never put in the order and asked if we still wanted it. Yes - still wanted it. He said it would be 5-10 minutes. Ok. After 10 minutes, we asked if our chicken was ready. He looked at us blankly and said - oh - let me check. Then he came back out and said they were checking with the kitchen. Doesn't make sense to me. Finally, he brought our chicken. It smelled so good - we could smell it from the other side of the table. It was piping hot and very hard to bite into. But once we did - it was nice and crispy, good flavor on the outside - and completely bland on the inside. I took off a star for the service - constantly had to ask them for water, plates, chicken....and slow service getting tables cleaned and set. I then took off a star for the bland chicken. But It's a must. You can choose from sizes that fit your family and it's a eye catcher when the servers bring it out. It's good as is or to wrap with spring roll paper to eat. The dipping sauce, Mam nem is bomb. They have a huge menu with lots of options to choose from. The servers in the place are mostly men. Only lady I've seen there is boss lady and she stand behind the register. The servers are very attentive and they make sure you are taken care of. My kids love the grilled pork with the broken rice. This place is where I like to go since its pretty much a D-I-Y spring roll restaurant. Of course, they serve other vietnamese dishes but they are known for their "seven courses of beef " and baked catfish. For "seven courses of beef " , seven differently prepared meats are brought out for you to eat and wrap into your very own spring rolls. It's balanced with noodles, veggies and herbs on the side. Make sure to come with people to share since it's alot of food. Alot of people order their catfish to share and make spring rolls out of the fish instead of meat. I took my daughters and their friend today to try the food here. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We were a bit nervous since this is our first time dining out because of Covid-19. This is the best place for fried fish in DFW and I drove 45mins to an hour for it. Beware of the wait time for the fried fish because it is FRESH and CRSIPY AS F. You can call in ahead of time but make sure youre accurate on when you're exactly getting there. My family's always get a big fish ($70) for 5-6 people and it's comes with vegetables, bún, and rice paper. They're very generous and you can refill the sides. My parents love the house sauce here but I'm not so fond of it but their fish sauce is low key watery. I also got 3 Món something banh hoi but that wasn't fragrant nor seasoned well. It came with nem, bo la lot, and cha tom on a sugarcane. It was kind of bland but I was craving specifically banh hoi. I hope I get to try more dish here though because I'm sure I'm missing something. 10/10 I recommend the fried fish and the pricing is pretty good. read more

This is probably my favorite Vietnamese restaurant. I'm an avid eater/users of nem wrappers (rice paper) and vegetables. I've eaten here multiple times and have yet to have a bad meal. Our last visit included extra people so we could order the baked catfish. It's huge and needs to be eaten when ordered. The vegetables are fresh and are used with the fish in the wrappers. The vegetables are lettuce, cucumber, sprouts, pickled shredded carrots and daikon, lemongrass, and mint leaves! Everything is finger food so be prepared for dirty hands! This place is packed with people. Notice that the majority of folks that frequent the restaurant come in large groups, thus the need for cafeteria style seating like an elementary school! It works well for this type of food and service. The majority of restaurants like this are casual. The staff does not wait on you like most Americans are used to. Raising your hand and flagging the waiter down is common practice and is not an offensive gesture. Sitting at a table and being annoyed by not getting service does not allow one to enjoy the food and company. I've always enjoyed coming here. I had checked in on Yelp -- which offered up a free appetizer with an order of an entrée. However, when we asked if our order of bo tai chanh qualified to get us the Yelp free app reward (the two options are: cha gio imperial rolls or goi cuon spring rolls), our waiter was extremely short and rude with us, and not at all helpful when we asked what qualified as an entrée. He said our bo tai chanh dish didnt qualify as an entree, but when we asked a more seasoned waiter, he said our order did qualify for the free app. Disappointing service level aside, my favorite dish here is Bo Tai Chanh (beef underdone with culantro, lime and mam nem, a thicker and more pungent fermented fish sauce). read more

However, recently I went with a large group of friends and ordered the whole catfish, which was the bomb. They bring out an entire baked catfish (mostly de-boned) along with rice paper, rice noodles, veggies, and sauce. You can make your own lettuce wraps or rice paper rolls with the fish or eat the fish plain. It was amazing and i would highly recommend it! Great baked fish but oh such horrible service! -slow to bring out drinks -forgot order -condescending manager Called in ahead for the medium baked catfish. When we arrived, gave the host/waiter the name we reserved under. Sat us down at an empty table then came back and moved us to another table that they had setup after the phone call. Plates, chopsticks, vermicelli and dish of variety vegetables was already set up. Next he took our drink orders. Few mins later Another waiter came by to see if we ordered our drinks yet, we said yes and ordered an appetizer from this second waiter. (There's a Yelp offer for free appetizer with check in.) Baked fish came out fairly quickly afterward (due to advanced call). Fish was cut to remove the spine before placing on our table. The baked fish is great! Crispy skin, soft and moist meat. Drinks finally arrived. First waiter dropped off 2 dishes that wasn't ours. Belonged to table next to us. We reminded him that we had ordered an appetizer from the other guy. But he forgot. So now both waiters forgot this one damn appetizer order. 30 - 40 mins later we again reminded waiter #1 that we're still waiting on the appetizer. At this point we were getting full, so when he came back to let us know he put in our order we asked for boxes and asked for the order to be taken to go. Manager came out to tell us that they usually do not allow the Yelp free appetizer to be taken to go. It's for dine in only. My blood pressure rises and I informed this manager that we had ordered it way ahead while we were eating there. We did NOT order it when we were finished eating. Instead of apologizing for FORGETTING the order, had the nerve to make us feel like freeloaders!! Baked fish was truly good but we all know customer service goes a long way. There's not much to say because it's not a unique dish nor they do anything special to it. But they do cook it perfectly and everything tastes amazing. Their other food is also good but not as amazing as the 7 beef course or the baked fish. In the recent years the fish seems to have gotten smaller, whether they changed their sizing chart or supply chain issues is unknown but it loses a star for the noticeable size changes. My wife and I used to be full off the medium fish but now it leaves me wanting. But not it takes a large to feed us. I got the bun bo hue and it was delicious, but it would've been better with more noodles. Parents got rice dishes, which they said were ok - portion size was a bit lacking. Of all the Vietnamese restaurants I have been to this one was a nice surprise. Busy yet clean and everyone was having a great time. Minced shrimp on sticks of palm and pork with snails on lemongrass stalks. Damn, a little dip in the fish sauce and very yummy. Maybe could be a little warmer when served. Made the super long track here from Fort Worth after picking up some family from the airport. We had a huge party so called ahead of time and put in a few orders for the baked catfish. Omg it was so amazing!! Deliciously crispy and the pineapple sauce they made was an absolute hit for the spring rolls we wrapped the fish in!! This was the best Vietnamese dining experience ever. The food was delicious and the authentic. We ordered the medium sized baked fish for a party of four and it was plenty. The fish was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I was surprised how moist the fish was considering it was baked. I expected it to be dry, but instead it was moist. There were sprinkles of toasted garlic and green onion covering the fish that helped compliment the soft fish. There's plenty of leafy greens and herbs for the spring rolls that came out with the fish. The combination of the warm crispy fish with the fresh vegetables feels light and flavorful. The textures in this dish was helped enhance flavor of each wrap. We also ordered the imperial spring rolls and beef three way. We ate the beef rolls by wrapping it in lettuce and dipping it in the sauce. I really enjoyed the imperial spring roll. There was what felt like a crispy egg roll wrapped in the inside.
