My order was pad Thai ,shrimp spring rolls ,the kid favorite pork chops &rice . I will admit my eyes are bigger than my stomach , My order was a lot lol . Didn't make a dent . All of it was good , but common knowledge Thai food is sweet and savory, however pad Thai was definitely more sweeter side FYI . Portion are generous my order could feed four people easily. After meandering back from Mountain View to the East-er Bay, we decided to stop off here for an early dinner. Because of the time of day, I wasn't bothered by how empty the restaurant was (one older couple - and I imagine most people don't hit up Vietnamese joints for their early-bird special). Quite a few people stopped in to grab take-out, so my faith in the food was affirmed before ours made it to the table. White as they come, we thought we were being adventurous by ordering Chicken Curry and a fried rice that had both chicken AND shrimp in it (both $8.95 for a substantially large plate of food). We were going big. The service was plenty attentive (as long as my food makes it to me and I get occasional water refills, I'm happy, so your standards may be higher than mine), and the food made it to our table incredibly fast. Even though I lived for a year in a room-share with a Vietnamese woman, I know next to nothing about cuisine. Our soup was light/good, and had scallions and what looked like garlic in it? The plates themselves were fantastic after a long day - delicious, filling, and even though we tried to save some for leftovers, able to be destroyed in one sitting. The curry wasn't necessarily spicy, but very flavorful. The only thing we noticed was that the menu called for cashews on the fried rice and there were peanuts, but finding faults in our dinner was more difficult than a game of I-Spy. If I lived in the area I would definitely return - a great place for a quick meal in a convenient location. read more

Good convenient location in downtown livermore. I had the Pho medium size for $7.50. They have rice plate dishes too ~$12 at dinner time. I thought that price is a little high. The only place I go for Pho! It's been a high school favorite and the only place I go to in the 25 mile radius. They are fairly quick so you don't have to wait a long time and it's temperature is perfect you can dig in as soon as it hits the table! Good solid place for a meal! Portions are huge and prices are very fair and the flavors are there. Food comes out all together fairly quickly. Today, my 7 year old ordered chicken noodle soup from kids menu, a good portion for his appetite and it comes with a drink of choice all for under $6...My eldest ordered a vegetarian version of Bun Bo Hue, she chucked it all down. Dear hubby ordered the large regular BBH, he said it was a different version but still good flavors. I had my Banh Xeo, with alot of ingredients inside, very filling but yet also very healthy, so i tell myself(lol). A plus for having a generous amount of vegetarian options. I can't believe this has been rated 4 stars on yelp. I ordered the spicy beef soup while my husband had the steak and brisket pho. The meats were okay, the noodle in the spicy beef soup was very good, but the soup was sooo blah. It was like dishwater. No depth of flavor, my husband's soup was actually sweet. Yuck! My soup wasn't even spicy, very diluted and one note. The noodles in my spicy beef soup were the saving grace or else this would have received an even lower rating. Would not recommend for the pho. We love coming here for lunch! We live right down the street, so this place is easily accessible and there's parking all around. As an appetizer, we always order the fresh shrimp rolls, my favorite! They are always fresh and never sticky or smelly. I always go for the chicken pho, which has a nice broth, a lot of white meat chicken, and noodles. There is also fresh cilantro sprinkled on top of it, so if you're not a cilantro fan (How could you not be?!) ask to get the soup without. My Husband is more adventurous and has tried a lot of things on the menu, which he always raves about. My favorite he orders is the house pad thai, yum! It comes with shrimp, tofu, and chicken! Great little spot with multiple vegetarian options! We came here a few days ago, and got takeout (hopefully by the time you read this, Covid will be ancient history, but in our case, we had no choice but do takeout). I ordered the spicy vegetarian noodle soup, and my hubs ordered the Mongolian tofu with rice. Both were delicious! The tofu dish and soup broth were so flavorful, and the soup came with tons of toppings. Amazing! Their pho with tofu and vegetarian ham is awesome! I'm newly vegan and this is the first time I finished a bowl of pho. Usually -- at other places -- I would get pho with meat and I would only pick out and eat the meat because I couldn't stomach the broth or the noodles (weird, I know) but I kept trying to like it. I've been here numerous times and whether it be the pho or the rice plates - everything is always pretty tasty. The owners and servers are laid back but attentive. They are usually sitting down watching tv or eating something themselves yet always have their eyes up and ready to help. The location is decent - sort of away from the busy first street but the inside doesn't feel inviting or welcoming. Actually it's the outside and inside that I feel really doesn't do this place any justice. While the food and Vietnamese coffee and Thai iced teas all taste good in my opinion - it's the general appearance of this place that I can't bring myself to give more than 3 stars. A refresh outside and inside to something in this century would really make a huge difference. read more

Driving back from Yosemite and decided to stop in Livermore for a quick bite. Pho is always at the top of list when exploring food options. My expectations are high and my cravings are strong. Saigon Cafe appeared to be one of a couple of better vietnamese options in the area. +1 star for the serving size and the amount of steak. My bowl was huge! I was a little disappointed in the broth as it was more on the sweet side. The combination options are attractive. You can get a meal with a fresh or fried roll and a drink for $11-13. I also noticed a sign on the wall promoting free ice cream, it read "Ask us about a free scoop." The service was friendly and it's clear the value their local customers. Decided to try this place out and I must say I am very pleased with their food and service. They have a great list of vegetarian options which worked out amazing for me since many restaurants have limited options. I ordered the vegetarian spicy noddle soup and it was delicious. This was a friendly reminder that a Livermore 4-star restaurant is not really a 4-star restaurant. Ordered a pho dac biet (large for $9.95). Portion was great, and came with the standard garnish (sprouts, lemon, basil, peppers). However, the brisket was a bit overcooked (and thus dry) and the soup was far, far too sweet. Even if sugar is needed for the broth, they went far overboard with that. The noodles also lacked the texture of fresh noodles, leading me to believe that they might not be fresh. Considering I didn't have to drive half an hour to Oakland/SJ, this is just tolerable. There still might be some better spots in the Tri-Valley though. read more

After trying Viet Noms we wanted a comparison. Viet Noms noodle soup has more meat in it, but, Saigon Cafe has a better broth. Saigon Cafe only gave 2 slices if jalapenos. Viet Noms has better service. We are not sure if Saigon Cafe just happened to have a server call in sick or something.
