After a few minutes of watching other people being served their soup, I went back to the counter and asked for the soup. The same cashier/waitress said "Oh sorry." and assured us we would get it right away. We again watched other people being served their soup, and I had to go up and re,moind the waitress a second time to fill our order. When she did bring the order a few minutes later, again, there were no paper napkins and no butter with the bread, the waitress asked if we wanted some. Why was our initial order incompletely served? Why did we have to remind them to fill it twice? Why were we not given paper napkins? Why did we have to ask for butter with the bread when it is standard? I don't _know_ that it is racism per se, it might just be incompetence. But the corporation needs to understand why their employees' behavior needs to be not just equal but equitable: you have to be extra careful to not commit unconscious micro-aggressions, because the same "incompetence" lands differently when it is repeated, seems not to happen to white folks and the associated perceived bias has accumulated, we are not "more sensitive".
