We were a mixed race group. I (South Asian male) placed the orders for the whole table. My white friend and her kid got their entire order -two separate trays, both with all the ordered items, paper napkins and butter and sauce- served simultaneously. My kid and I got our orders a bit later (which happens), but incomplete: the young white blonde waitress/cashier who took our order (we were there at 3PM on 9 August 2026) did not bring my kid's soup, and our trays did not have paper napkins or sauces. After a few minutes of watching other people being served their soup, I went back to the counter and asked for the soup. The same cashier/waitress said "Oh sorry." and assured us we would get it right away. We again watched other people being served their soup, and I had to go up and re,moind the waitress a second time to fill our order. When she did bring the order a few minutes later, again, there were no paper napkins and no butter with the bread, the waitress asked if we wanted some. Why was our initial order incompletely served? Why did we have to remind them to fill it twice? Why were we not given paper napkins? Why did we have to ask for butter with the bread when it is standard? I don't _know_ that it is racism per se, it might just be incompetence. But the corporation needs to understand why their employees' behavior needs to be not just equal but equitable: you have to be extra careful to not commit unconscious micro-aggressions, because the same "incompetence" lands differently when it is repeated, seems not to happen to white folks and the associated perceived bias has accumulated, we are not "more sensitive". read more

Sometimes I know they have a lot of orders to go as we also order that way but the wait time can be longer if you have no idea how many orders are ahead of you. Just had the 6 inch crispy crunchy chicken sandwich with a side of fire roasted vegetable soup and a soda. Let me start by saying that really is a darn good sandwich, which is saying something because I don't usually even like chicken sandwiches. I added mustard to mine and it was served with a side of peppercini and a pickle. The fire roasted vegetable soup was also really good! Unfortunately it was just luke warm. My original reason for coming in was for hot soup on a cold day. I would love to try it again hotter someday. The restaurant was clean and nicer than most other sandwich shops. The staff was quick to greet us and make us feel welcome. The youngster with the conlin hat even recommended me a few sandwiches. One of them was the chicken sandwich I ended up having. Came in and there was a long line. Several people left without ordering. Ordered our meal and also asked for a loaf of bread. We were asked if wanted a pickle. Food came out in about 10 minutes, no pickle....no loaf of bread. Had to wait a bit to get the bread...and pay again as our order showed we did not order it. When calling the store, the manager who helped me said I had a good attitude, her attitude was fine, but no appreciation for the customer. say thank you or have a good day or have common courtesy. Just visited this location and received terrible customer service. Husband ordered and got me a sandwich but in a gluten free wrap. He mentioned the gluten free wrap multiple times while ordering. When our food was brought out, it was not on a wrap, it was on the standard sourdough bread. I brought it back to the counter saying it was supposed to be on a wrap. She looked back on the receipt and the cashier did not include the gluten free wrap on the order (receipt) my husband mentioned that he mentioned the gluten free wrap multiple times while ordering. It was clearly the cashier's error in not including it on order. Instead of apologizing and re-making the order the correct way, the manager asked me if I had a gluten allergy. I said no, I don't eat bread. I'm on a weight loss journey and have drastically changed my eating habits over the past 6 months. When I said no, she hesitated about re-making the wrap the way it was ordered. So she asked me again - "so you don't have an allergy" quite loudly. I again said no. I should have to explain why I want a gluten free wrap when the problem is that the cashier put the order in wrong. She eventually approved for my sandwich to be made the correct way. First thing I noticed was how clean the place was, great service followed by surprisingly delicious food. We were expecting your typical "sandwich shop" but this was above and beyond. Even the gluten-free option was so good and I watched them take all precautions of not cross contaminating due to my allergy. I am $48 poorer for trying. 2 french dip sandwiches and 2 cups of soup that took 37 minutes to make, and they didn't even get it right! The women said to me "The AU JUS isn't ready, DO YOU WANT TO WAIT?" Are you kidding me??? Did I order a "French" or a "French DIP?" because without the dip what is it? WOW. So now a longer wait while the sandwich gets cold!! The problem is they have poorly trained staff....even the owners. THEN, I get home and there is only ONE soup.....30 minute drive and one of my $7 cups of soup is missing. I called and the women said... " We can give you cookie with the soup"... Note: I had to add this business to Yelp, I had left a review but it turned out to be the Turlock store (also horrible reviews) when they notified me I told them Oakdale did not have a Yelp page. I had a 6" pastrami sandwich and a clam chowder bread bowl with a drink. Everything was good. Restaurant was clean, the service was quick, but they weren't busy. The cost of all 3 items...a whopping $28. The sandwich had very little meat and was mostly bread. The soup was good and the bread bowl was fantastic. How I review a Restaurant is I compare the same thing that I can get around this Restaurant. Well anyone that lives in Oakdale know the best sandwich spot around this neck of the woods is Ferrareses. Especially for pastrami, Hands down, side by side and same price, There is no comparison. I will never buy another sandwich from Sourdough and Co as long as Ferrareses is open. It's actually a shame the difference in meat and the amount you get for your money. Ryders actually sales a decent sandwich compared to SD & Co. Bottom line here is, there's no logical reason why someone would pay for a SD & Co sandwich with Ferrareses a few blocks down the road. Prices are just way too high for what you get. read more

I opted for horseradish on my French Dip sandwich .. OMG .. the fresh horseradish was lathered on so thick, my scalp & sinuses were burning so bad, you'd think I'd need an EMT. I tried to scrape it off, but it was a waste. I like hot, spicy, etc. , but raw horseradish should be applied carefully. Roast beef is that shiny lunch meat you find in a tub at Walmart.
