Saigon Spring is the fancy Vietnamese place you show your parents who are visiting from out of town and are worried over whether their child has access to good pho. The feeling of the place is definitely sit-down restaurant in suburbia. The decor is nice, and the tables have the cloth and glass tops. It definitely felt like a classier place than Van's in Albany. The pricing is reflective of the fanciness. You'll get a bowl of pho for about $12-15, which is expensive to me, since I grew up in the area of Southern California that had $6-8 bowls as big as your head. However, the pricing is only about a dollar or two more than what you'd find elsewhere in this region, and given the effort Saigon Spring put into their decor and great service, I'll concede that it's reasonable. Getting over the environmental factors, the food was pretty good. I shared some summer rolls, which were filled with fresh vegetables and shrimp. For entrees, I had the pho, while my partner had the Shaking Beef. My pho dac biet had a beefy base and contained the meats that they offer. One of my favorites is the rare beef, which you dunk into the hot soup to cook it. The Shaking Beef was also delicious, and my partner cleaned his plate quite thoroughly. All the food was what you'd expect in terms of quality and taste compared to the California places, but cost is just higher. Is it worth the price? Sure. I wouldn't be able to afford going to Saigon Spring every day, but when I want pho, I'll make this my first choice. read more

Love them!!! Our favorite place to eat in the area. We've never been disappointed with any choice we've gotten. The crispy pork rolls and the chicken rice noodle stir fry are our absolute favorites to order. The lychee ice tea and the lychee hot tea is amazing!! The pho is out of this world. I have been to this Vietnamese restaurant a few times and have had a pleasant experience each time. The inside of the restaurant is neat and well kept. The food is served generously and definitely does not disappoint. The prices admire also quite reasonable. Found this place by accident and it was one of best accidents ever! This place was packed at lunch time on a Saturday, so I got a seat in the bar - the staff were friendly and attentive. Yesterday I placed a take out order from Saigon Spring. While I would have preferred delivery or at least curb side pickup due to COVID19 neither were options. I placed the order on line through their web site, paid and got back a confirming email stating it would be ready at 6:21 pm. Twenty minutes seemed quick, but felt they must not be very busy for that turnaround. Arrived around 6:25 expecting to get my order and found over a dozen people, luckily all in masks, milling around waiting for their orders. Some had been waiting over an hour. The hostess was not able to tell anyone when their food would be ready as it appeared the kitchen did not have any type of process. That was obvious when orders did come out and the ticket numbers were all over the place, so when you placed your order versus where you were in the kitchen's queue had no correlation. While waiting I happened to look into the kitchen numerous times. I did not see masks on any of the people preparing the food. The only masks were on the hostess and waitress bringing the food out to the customers as well as one irate patron that stormed the kitchen in a fit. The lack of masks was a huge concern during this pandemic and I hope the Board of Health is monitoring this. My food finally arrived at 7:40, 80 minutes past the promised pickup time in the confirming email. While the food quality was OK, the poor service and suspect hygiene has lost me as a customer forever. read more

Some restaurants do indeed deserve five stars. I can't offer any words of encouragement, or ways to improve our dining experience at this magical eatery. We've eaten here several times. The food is consistently outstanding, and the waitstaff is sharp and friendly. You must try the summer rolls. Both the shrimp/pork and pork alone are just so fresh and flavorful. Every dish I've eaten here is wonderfully flavored and well-balanced, but I must praise the half crispy duck served only at dinner. Dear God this is perfection. The skin is amber brown and crispy indeed. The meat is juicy and rewarding. It is served in a pool of fish sauce and flavored with julienned ginger and carrot. A heaping pile of perfectly cooked short-grained rice is left to absorb all the juices. Just perfect. I ate the duck with my fingers on Saturday night and I don't care who knows it. Truly one of the best restaurants in the Capitol Region. All day today, the day after another heavenly meal there, I was secretly wishing to go back we had such a great meal served by a thoughtful staff. read more

Clearly the best restaurant in Clifton Park. All food is 100% restaurant-cooked -- no phony reheats here (like 90% of the other restaurants in this "town"). The ingredients are always top-notch, quality cuts of meat and an abundance of fresh herbs and vegetables. The service is fast (seems not to matter how busy they are, you will get served quickly) and friendly. They also have an excellent assortment of teas (hot and cold). Since I've moved to upstate NY, I have had a tough time finding authentic Vietnamese food without having to travel to NYC for a fix. Went here for the second time last night, so amazing. This food is better than Van's, My Linh, Pho Yum and most that I've had in NYC. First time I was there I had the Pho, which wasn't as plentiful as Van's but was bigger than Pho Yum's, the flavor was really nice and the meats seemed to be better than the others. Girlfriend had the BBQ'd beef over rice and loved it, lots of meat. Last night, I had the crispy roasted half chicken. OMG. This may be the best chicken in the area. Crispy skin, moist interior, slight fishsauce taste and tons of shredded ginger. I cannot like this enough, I don't know how they make it, but it is PERFECT. Girlfriend had the shaking beef, which was good as well, dipping sauce a little too salty and too many onions for her taste, but I liked it a lot! FOOD: Fairly good quality. I got the sliced beef over steamed rice served with vegetables. It was cooked well and had decent flavor, albeit the portion was small. My gf got a bowl of beef pho which was also good. SERVICE: We found the service to be quick and friendly. You'd be hard pressed to find your water glass empty as these people were always on the ball. Since a lot of the dishes have rice, thinly sliced meat, or noodles, the turnaround times are fast. You won't wait very long for your food. VALUE: This attribute kills the restaurant's overall score. My beef and rice dish was $14. For that price I expect to be full, but that was not the case. The "vegetables" were two slices each of carrots, onions, and cucumbers. The beef and rice quantity was approximately the size of a softball or grapefruit. My gf's pho ($11) appeared like it was a better bang for the buck, but clearly it wasn't cheap. I've been getting their sprimp or chicken salad, which is shredded cabbage salad with shredded carrots, peanuts, fresh herbs (mint, basil) & amazing sweet dressing, with the meat on top. Really, google a recipe & check it out. It's light & refreshing in hot weather, & a nice break from a big belly full of awesome pho. Given that I grew up eating homemade Vietnamese food and make few signature dishes myself (pho included), I can be a bit critical of Vietnamese restaurants, but I have to say the SSR is OK in my opinion. The first thing we noticed upon walking in for lunch was how clean the restaurant was. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly. All a plus. As for food, we started off with our standard Goi Cuon and threw in the Goi Cuon Thit for something different; the hoisin/peanut sauce for the Goi Cuon was very good, and the lemongrass pork in the Goi Cuon Thit was well marinated. For our main courses, I had the Pho Dac Biet, while my husband had the Pho Bo. We were a little disappointed in the broth which was a bit bland for our taste, but the jury is still out on whether it was just that particular batch or if it's always lacking a little something. The place looks OK, yet there was not enough servers, food has too much MSG, and tend to overcharge customers. We were there Jan. 3, 2016, which was a Sunday, around 6pm, six of us. They were not that busy, and after we closed the menu for 15 minutes, no one came to take our order. We waited, and I had to speak out to ask for a server. Later on, we ordered spring rolls and soup with pho, found that too much MSG was in them, our head feeling funny and sleepy and mouth tasted funny. When the check came, we saw there was a 20% surcharge on it. It was not written on their menu for a surcharge though, and it was on top of the 9% tax rate. That doesn't seem right, cause service charge should be on services only, not over the high taxes too. Seems like they are not honest about that, guess not a good idea for big group to go there. read more

First time at Saigon Spring last night. Meh. I'm sure when I go back a second time I'll have a better experience. We ordered the crispy spring rolls (4) to start. They were so tiny! Dipping sauce was tasteless. Pickled veg on the side was good. I ordered the shaking beef based on Yelp reviews. I was seriously disappointed! The portion size was extremely small: six small squares of filet mignon; I'm talking less than 1 inch pieces. It was "fluffed" with grilled onions and watercress. Sauce on the side was basically lime juice, which is fine. The beef had a nice grilled flavor but the portion was severely inadequate. Wouldn't recommend. It was nothing special. Hubs got the noodle stir fry with chicken. It was tasty; similar to a pad thai. His portion size was substantial. Our waters weren't filled once. Friendly service and the food came out quickly. I'm looking forward to going back for the pho and stuffed chicken wings. read more

What are you waiting pho? Checked out Saigon Spring today after a recent Times Union review and Clipper coupon double whammy. We started off with some crispy vegetable summer rolls. Or were they spring rolls? They were light despite being fried, and the dipping sauce was tangy. I ordered an avocado milkshake, which sounds weird, but it works! Downed that sucker in no time. My friend's mango milkshake was also tasty. My pho bo (beef & noodles) had a light broth, and was served with two sauces (brown/tangy & red/spicy), bean sprouts and basil. Our waiter was sweet and answered my stupid questions about what to do with said items, as I was until today a pho virgin. SPOILER: They go in the soup. I have enough leftover for two more meals! My friends got lemongrass chicken and a spring roll entree, and both were happy with their food. We all agreed it hit the spot on such a cold day. My party of three's tab came to $47, before the $5 off coupon. Not bad! Saigon Spring is unfortunately located in a strip mall (St. John's Plaza) set back from Route 9, so it's easy to miss. One of Clifton Park's hidden gems, this Vietnamese restaurant has become a regular destination for me. I have tried most of the items on the menu at this point and have never left unsatisfied. The prices are very reasonable, and they even have a great selection of wine and craft beer. I am never surprised to see that the dining room is completely filled any given day for lunch. They serve a quality product, and they do it QUICKLY. The servers really do a great job of skillfully keeping up with the volume, and are always happy to answer any questions regarding the content of the menu. If you haven't already, try it! read more

My husband is a huge Vietnamese food fan. Ive been looking for somewhere to take him and Saigon spring was recommended over and over! We finally made it over to Clifton and we were not disappointed! We got the summer spring rolls as an appetizer. So good. Fresh. And the peanut sauce . My husband ordered the brisket and beef ball pho soup and he loved! He didn't even noticed how busy the restaurant had gotten he was so occupied eating! Haha. I ordered the lemongrass pork chops. Solid Pho (had the eye round and beef balls) and fresh spring roll with shrimp. Built into a strip mall in sterile Clifton Park (this town is the butt of many jokes because of that..the land of the pseudo sophisticated chain store loving soccer Mom), Saigon Spring is a pretty non-nonsense joint. The folks running the place seemed very congenial (albeit crazy rushed due to lunch hour). Spring rolls were on the high side price wise but the Pho was in the ballpark. One star off for not having hoison and sirachi at the table. The more "rustic" pho places I go to (see Utica) have them. Will be back. read more

Their service is friendly and quick, various food items are delicious, and Vietnamese cuisine is one of the few around the area. That is probably why they attract a diverse and growing customer base from capital region. Their lunch specials range from $8 - 12. Here's what I've tried: - $10 Curry chicken with rice: Fragrant mildly spiced curry on top of tender chicken breast served with soft potatoes and onions. Bowl of hot rice on side. Any curry dish (tofu, seafood, etc) with rice is recommended. - $9 Half roasted chicken with rice: Big portion = well seasoned juicy half chicken served with rice. Great bang for buck. - $9 Special Soup Noodle or any Pho: Served with bean sprouts and hoisin/sriracha chili sauce on the side, this Vietnamese noodle dish is standard in Vietnamese restaurants. Here, Pho is soup filled in a large bowl with minimal ingredients. Certainly tasty, but not recommended if you eat a lot. - $5.50 vegetarian taro rolls or any roll appetizers (4) - flavor packed, but tiny portion (see pics) Here's what I would do: 1. Come to this place only if there's a coupon - Clipper Magazine has $5 off $30, $10 off $60, $20 off $100 2. Not come in dinner as I'd imagine it's lunch menu dishes with the same portion at twice the cost. 3. Give one more star if they increase their portion or additional rice requested with rice dish is free ($1-$2 now). Props for their well-done rice though! read more

Fine craft beer selection, Thai ice tea, sticky rice and creme brûlée for dessert. Excellent vegetarian entrees and crispy duck. Try the summers rolls, spring rolls or crispy calamari appetizers. I ordered the Beef over rice and ask to add shrimp they were okay w/it for a small fee. Presentation was awesome. Portion was great I had plenty for next day meal. Advertisement was not enough. We had a fantastic meal at Saigon Spring. Everything from the food to service was amazing. For appetizers we had the Summer Rolls and the Papaya Salad. The Summer Rolls were fresh, but overall a bit boring. The Papaya Salad was excellent, nice balance of flavors and textures. For dinner I had the Shredded Tofu with Vegetables and Large Rice Noodles and we also ordered the Shaking Beef. Both were AMAZING. The entrees were New York/Boston quality in a Clifton Park strip mall. The Beef was juicy and flavorful and the tofu and vegetables were perfectly cooked. My party got 4 different dishes: Pho tai and pho bo vien: the broth was o.k. Didn't give much meat Grilled pork and crispy spring roll over vermicelli noodles: this one was pretty standard, but I was shocked when they served it on a plate, instead of a bowl, and with the whole dish doused in fish sauce. Being Vietnamese, I guess I am just accustomed to noodles being served in a bowl with the fish sauce on the side to add to one's own liking. Lemongrass chicken with rice: this dish is the reason I give this restaurant 2 stars. I couldn't call this dish in any sort Vietnamese, and was quite inedible. The chicken was breaded and smothered in some sauce. I'm not even sure what flavor is was because it tasted like nothing. Never is lemongrass chicken ever breaded and cooked with cornstarch to make a slurry. I couldn't say this place represents authentic Vietnamese food well, but maybe this is the best this area has.. read more
