Been meaning to make a trip out to this french restaurant located between Greenboro and Elon. Located in an old historical building which has been converted into an inn, Burke Manor Inn. The interior is lovely. Showed up for lunch so had the lunch menu to select from. Noticed that the crepes are only served at lunch. Had the chicken crepe and the gnocchi. For starters had mushroom soup which was the soup of the day and the french onion. Wrapped up with the chocolate pot de creme. Everything was very delectable. Service was also very attentive and spot on. Definitely a venue that is deserving of return visits. read more

This was our first time visiting Saint Jacques and we loved it! The food was delicious and we ordered a lot of it. We enjoyed the French onion soup (probably the best I've had), the beef tip gnocchi and tomato pie for appetizers. We had the filet with lobster (special of the night) and the surf and turf for dinner. All very good! For dessert, we tried the apple crisp, chocolate dream and the bread pudding. The chef and I assume the owner each came out to speak with us which was so nice. Christina was our waitress and she was so pleasant and wonderful. Great experience! Nestled in the sweet town of Gibsonville stands the Burke Manor Inn and within it is the French cuisine of St Jacques. The dining rooms are beautiful and classy, and the wait staff is attentive and welcoming. Not being sure of what wine to pair with my meal, the waiter was quick to check with Chef Lil for recommendations. I had the soft and decadent short ribs with truffle Mac and cheese and my husband had the lamb with roasted potatoes. For dessert I had a perfect caramel bread pudding, warm and delicious. My husband had a French lemon tart that was a perfect combination of tart and sweet. Our entire experience was sublime and we left feeling really full and taken care of. This bed & breakfast is beautiful. My husband's family planned a surprise dinner here to celebrate a very special Birthday and we all had a wonderful time. The menu was a preselected coursed meal but we had a few options to select from for the salad, main course and dessert. Here is what we tried: Amuse Bouche- a cheese puff, this was a nice light option to start The bread basket was brought around throughout the night, I liked the multigrain but the table favorite was the olive bread. Goat Cheese Salad (we also had the option of a Mixed Green Salad but everyone picked the goat cheese), this was delicious Escargot- not for me but the table enjoyed it Peppermint Sorbet- I usually do not like peppermint but this was a delightful palate cleanser For our main course, we had the option to choose from the Butternut Squash Ravioli, Beef Bourguignon or Dorado Oscar. I chose the ravioli and my husband chose the beef. The fish was a very popular choice at the table but my personal favorite was the beef out of the three. Last we had dessert, I chose the Creme Brulée. Ice Cream & Sorbet was the other option. We had three wines that were recommended and it kept flowing all night. My favorites were the Chenin Blanc and Pinot Noir. Saint Jacques at Burke Manor is the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion. My husband and I hope to return soon and stay a night. read more

A table of 4 adults went to Saint Jacques for lunch on June 7, 2024. The ambiance was excellent and the food was out of this world, but we were amazed and very disturbed when we were told that they would have to charge us a fee for changing the sequence of her soup order. That's right!, they assessed an upcharge for asking for her soup with the appetizer instead of with her meal. The customer service here is phenomenal, cannot be matched elsewhere. The bread they give is baked fresh and well paired with their selection. The crunch on the bread and soft inside just makes you appreciate the atmosphere. I started with the beef tenderloin surrounded by a mushroom sauce baked inside a flaky crust served with a side of lobster bites and it was properly cooked and flavor was off the chart! I remember seeing a segment about this inn and restaurant on PBS, and we decided to treat ourselves to dinner and a night's stay for our anniversary at a place that was still away from our home in Durham but not THAT far away. We reserved a table at 5:30 on a Friday and were promptly seated by our server who told us we could take off our masks now that we were seated. The service and food were top-notch, from our amuse bouche to our salad nicoise, warm goat cheese salad, duck entree, flounder with caviar, palate cleanser, complimentary bread, and wine pairings. The only slightly disappointment was our dessert of profiteroles which were mostly pastry and very little filling. Our server joked that we must be part of the "clean plate club" because we made sure to eat everything on our plates. We started by ourselves but the dining area got progressively filled and louder as our meal progressed. One of the articles in our room said they don't usually turn over tables since most parties stay and chat. After returning home, I read our latest issue of AAA Carolinas Go! magazine which listed Saint Jacques among four four-diamond restaurants in North Carolina. I'm happy to say we've now dined in all four. Yes, it's pricey but worth a splurge. Even with two glasses of wine and all that we ate, my wife said she was expecting the bill to be higher. Our breakfast with our hotel stay included probably the fluffiest scrambled eggs I've ever had. It would have been nice to have dined on the porch but I guess you have to request that in advance and we did not. We'll remember that next time. read more

I'm generally not a big fan of B & B's, especially not B & B's in older structures that allow only so much in the way of modernization - I prefer my comforts in a less rustic manner. And though there were some very nice aspects to our stay here (the nicest being access to dinner at Saint Jacques without a long, dark drive home), I still prefer a more modern accommodation. While the room was very nicely appointed, with a huge, firm mattress, an expansive bathroom with a spa type tub and a separate shower, and even a small balcony, the down sides more than out weighted these pluses. The stairs are sharply inclined with narrow steps, the "house" aspect of the layout lends itself to the noise of doors opening & closing and voices passing in the hall ways, the proximity to the railroad tacks and the resulting noise is less than relaxing, and the location next to an almost deserted strip shopping center is less than desirable. Having said all that, I still might stay here again to have the pleasure of dining at the restaurant. And the breakfast the next morning was outstanding, and served by Kenny himself, a most pleasant end to the overnight adventure! read more

I would love to write a 5 star review but I was just told that they canceled our reservation made weeks ago because they decided to hold another cooking class. They obviously think their cooking classes are more important than the restaurant. I will update this review if and when they actually let us eat there. We have tried to book several dates but were unable because of the cooking classes. But this last time we had a reservation and THEY canceled it. I will say their restaurant in Raleigh was good. But I never had my reservation canceled in Raleigh while they were there. read more

This review has nothing to do with the food. The food was great! This is for the people who want to enjoy a special night and not get rushed. On dec 17 2022 I was proposed to here. I had 5 family members in total that were at the proposal. After the proposal happened the entire management was rushing us to the table. And rushing my family members out of the facility, we were then rushed to our table. We had even stopped by the desk to make sure it was okay ( I would have rather sat in an Applebees than be rushed to my table by the manager to keep them on schedule ON MY ENGAGEMENT NIGHT) and all the manager on duty said "ya but you need to get to your table" with a horrendous facial expression. rushing us some more. We were then told it was because the night was booked and that was the means of the rushing. We sat down around 6pm and had walked out of that place at 815-830pm and they had a total of one semi large party in one room and next to my fiancé and I were another couple. Shortly after that other couple left - 4 top sat down next to us. Other rooms were pretty cleared out by then. This place was by no means busy and by no means should my family members have to remember my proposal as being rushed out by the management. I wouldn't even return to celebrate an anniversary now that I know how this staff treated my special day. The waitresses were great and did an amazing job this is not towards them, and even asked to take a picture for us so we could remember the night. This is strictly to whoever trains this staff. I will now look back at my special night as rushed and head of staff as being rude to myself and my family members. My family members even told me they were told they were not allowed inside. Who does that to people? You think my family members will have good things to say to other people? No. Do better. Let people enjoy their moments. Life is short. What people walk away with about your business matters. Your night was by no means booked. So thank you so graciously for allowing me to be proposed to on your property. What a surprise and a treat! Waited months to get in and it was absolutely worth the wait. First time eating here and it definitely won't be the last! Everything we had was first rate. Starting with the wild mushroom soup and continuing to our main dishes, the food was superb, the portion sizes just right. We even sprang for dessert - something we do only occasionally - just so we could try their house made peanut ice cream. It was over the top. Highly recommend this place! read more

My husband surprised me with dinner at St. Jacques for my birthday. I cannot find words to describe how wonderful this experience was. The venue is beautiful with soft lighting and white table cloths and fresh flowers and lots of fireplaces. We ate in a five table room. The service is friendly and the food is both delicious and beautiful. Pansies decorated our plates. It is expensive, four or $$$$$. Worth every cent. I stayed at the Burke Manor Inn when the Acorn Inn was booked and I was trying to find a place close to Elon University. It was much nicer than I expected, though it's location next to a deserted strip mall and across from train tracks is less than ideal. It took less than 5 minutes to get to Elon's campus, however, so that made up for the lack of scenic location. The most memorable aspects of the Inn were the sitting room downstairs and the breakfast. The sitting room was comfortable and well-stocked with books and magazines, making it a pleasant place to waste a half hour or so. The breakfast was great too-they provided a nice assortment of things including scrambled eggs, French toast, oatmeal, and fresh fruit. I would definitely recommend the Inn whether you are visiting a student at Elon or just looked for a nice, upscale place in the Gibsonville area. read more

Count me in as another person who officially loves Saint Jacques. I was really wondering if the almost hour drive (one way) from my home was going to be worth it. It was. This is a hidden gem in the little town of Gibsonville, that requires traveling down some two lane highways and down the main street of Gibsonville to the Burke Manor Inn. It is a bit confusing to find exactly where to park, especially at night because it is mighty dark. The restaurant is located in a beautifully restored old home, loaded with character. We were met by a extremely pleasant woman that showed us to our table in the corner of what looked to be a former sitting room near the large fireplace. We began our evening with a glass of wine (2014 Vouvray Peu Da La Moriette Chenin Blanc for me and 2013 Nicolas Chardonnay for her). The Chenin Blanc was by far the better wine, nice floral notes and crisp acidity with a touch of sweetness on the front of the palate. We were then brought a nice little Amuse Bouche of potato and chicken in a creamy sauce; it was very flavorful to me so small. We paired our glasses with Brie en Croute, which was a piece of brie cheese baked inside a puff pastry with some candied walnuts and a simple mixed green salad. Beautiful presentation with this appetizer. I went with the Gnocchi with a pesto and cream sauce, a perfect light potato dumpling encased in a rich and creamy sauce. We then decided on our entrees she went with the Duck Aux Pommes, a beautifully cooked portion of duck breast medallions set with a polenta cake and green beans with hot bacon. I opted for the feature of an open faced ravioli topped with an impossibly tender slow roasted beef short rib, a sweet potato puree, and a beef demi glace. This was set with some baby asparagus. Both dishes were wonderful, I only say the latter dish was better because i like beef better than duck, but really they were awesome. We decided to pair the entrees with a glass of 2007 Saint Jacques Burgundian Pinot Noir. Not a very expensive wine but the earthiness (think mushroom here) of the wine paired perfectly with the beef and the "gaminess" of the duck. It was definitely the right wine for the time. We opted for dessert and went with the Crepe "Aux Pêches" This was a crepe filled with fresh caramelized peaches, homemade caramel sauce and homemade vanilla ice cream. This was PHENOMENAL!! I finished the meal with a little sniffer of 2005 Sauternes Chateau Saint Vincent. Again an excellent accompaniment to dessert. Notes of honey, peach, and pear and a touch of mineralogy that made it fit just right with the crepe. The service was wonderful, well attended to by the staff and even had a conversation with the chef and owner, Lil Lacassagne. He was a extremely personable and a gentleman, and in typical French fashion, told us to please take our time and enjoy our dinner even though it was around 10pm at that time. He even took the time to discuss the fact that my wife and I spoke Spanish and spoke with us in Spanish (In addition to him being fluent in French and English). This place just reminded me of a late night dinner in a French countryside, and I will certainly not let a lot of time expire before I return. If you enjoy relaxed fine dining, then you owe it to yourself to make a reservation and try it. read more

I wrote directly to this restaurant after a disaster of a meal and THEY did not like it one bit!!! Here's the "conversation"! My original message: Server was rude and served our order incorrectly yet still charged us for her mistake (she said "you ate it didn't you" and I thought but didn't say... "what were you going to do, serve it to someone else?"), the snails had no flavor as the pesto looked like pesto but NO pesto flavor and no garlic flavor either... totally BLAND. The menu is French BUT ONLY in the appetizers... the entrees were just standard American menu items. The cost was high and DEFINITELY NOT worth the cost of $195 for 2 with only $30 of that in wine. Very disappointing and will NOT return and will tell people to stay away. Good luck. But I was told I couldn't have it then as she only had the ONE roll. INEXCUSABLE I!! WHAT A DUMP OF A PLACE! I have eaten at some of the best 3 star Michelin restaurants in Paris at the time- Joel Robuchon, Alan Senderen's Lucas Carton, Tour d'Argent, etc. so I know REAL French food... at it's best. THIS is NOT French food, and it wasn't very good as American food. And your attitude is also EXTREMELY LOW CLASS! Good luck... after I spread the word to gastronomes around Burlington and Greensboro... you'll be lucky to serve hot dogs at the local ball game. This charming B&B is run by the same folks who own Saint Jacques French Cuisine in Raleigh! There is even a mini Saint Jacques restaurant on the premises. And it delivers just like the restaurant in Raleigh. We stayed at the B&B for my wife's birthday - and had a lovely time. The room was beautiful including a very nice bathroom with old school white tile. The shower was a bit dark - but that's not really a deal breaker. Service was fantastic as I would expect knowing the owners. Dinner was just like in Raleigh - fantastic service, fantastic food - and staying there we could actually indulge in some of the great wines! When you check in they ask if you want earplugs because there is a railroad running by across the street. Well, there are no earplugs in the world who can drown out the noise of a train blowing the whistle repeatedly at 5am... Breakfast was good - nothing too fancy. Omelet, Grits, bread, butter, jam, coffee, juice. All in all a very nice weekend - except for the train wakeup call. They also host events like weddings there - would have been a neat place to consider. read more

My daughter and I stayed here this weekend, we were attending an orientation weekend at Elon. We knew nothing of St. Jacques Restaurant in Raleigh. We just happened onto to this lovely inn. The rooms were lovely, comfortable and homey, the food both breakfast and dinner were other-worldly!! The most important thing about this inn was the hospitality. We had a car accident the night before we were supposed to leave and needed to stay one more night on one of the busiest nights around Elon University. The owner heard me telling the check in clerk my issue, he came out of the kitchen and re-arranged the entire inn to make space for us for one more night. One less worry 5 hours from home. This little inn is truly a gem in the Elon area!! read more

A night at Burke Manor was a secret birthday surprise. We stayed in the Paris cottage which was small but very adequate;just like rooms in Paris. Jacuzzi in the bathroom and separate shower. Dinner was delicious; I had a terrific filet (which they wrapped for me for leftovers) and hubby had really good fish. Huge wine list. Bed was awesome. Breakfast was good, couldn't eat it all. No choice of menu but omelette was good. Owners were very friendly and talked with us many times. Nothing to do in Gibsonville but is close to Elon University. A friend had a gift certificate so invited me to dine with her at Saint Jacques. We were promptly seated in the charming dining room. We had two servers throughout our meal who were friendly, knowledgeable and provided excellent service. This is definitely a fine dining experience. Started with an amuse bouche of a red pepper mousse piped into home-made pastry. Two perfect bites to start the meal. We shared the tomato pie. Tomato layered with pesto mayonnaise and Asiago, wrapped and baked in a crispy golden crust. Along side were field greens and radishes, with a lemon garlic vinaigrette, savory and bursting with flavor. We were brought a palate cleanser of a mint sherbet before the entrees, nice touch! My friend had the lamb shank and I had the short ribs. Both were outstanding and plated beautifully. They also had homemade rolls of various flavors. Their wine list is interesting as well. We went with a very nice rose. We were way too full to have desert but they all sounded delicious. The prices are high but the quality of the food, portion sizes and service make it worth the splurge! We will be back. read more

If you are looking for a wedding venue...unless you are ready to spend big bucks, RUN! Way too over priced for what you get, they wanted to up charge me $2 on every seat just to include a padded chair...are you kidding? Oh and they say linens are included but then they tell you that if you want them to touch the ground they are $12 a linen...seriously? Other venues provide the same chairs at no additional cost and table cloths that actually fit the tables. They say the food is the best around, even though I live in Raleigh, I have never heard of their restaurant, "Saint-Jacques," and when I told them I thought their food was over priced for one meat and two sides, they were not willing to work with me at all and said that they completely disagreed. Our waiter Kenny was thoroughly familiar with the history of the property as well as the details of every menu item. The food is excellent - better than most I have had in the Triad. The steak was cooked to perfection, the duck l'orange tender and tasty, French onion soup hearty and one of the best I've ever tasted. The sauces exquisite. Figure $25 to $30 for an entree. What a huge disappointment. Been there before and had a good not great dinner. Breakfast was disappointing. Despite all this we booked a table for five for Elon graduation. We brought a 1995 Dom Perignon. Sent a glass to chef/owner. It's tradition chef to come out...hmmm. Booked table 6 months in advance. Corkage fee no issue. Food was cold. Services abrupt and distant but they graced us with a foldout table to dine on!! And price fix menu with a bottle of wine was insane. Stay classy Burke Manor!!! read more

Other then train that passed nearby it was an excellent location, with its beautiful grounds that includes a pool. We stayed a night on a trip from DC to Atlanta - it is about half way. We did not eat at the restaurant for dinner but the included breakfast was great. The room was clean and decorated with a personalized touch. The place is run very professionally and is a nice break from the hotel chains without the usual fussiness and "weirdness" of many bed and breakfasts. read more
