The interior decorator(s) clearly had taste. The artwork is pretty and the windows add to the light and airy feeling. Now let's talk food! The food is bespoke. I had to google a few words (which I loved) to make sure I knew what I was getting. The Fried Cauliflower had a touch of spice, and frankly you would have no idea you were eating cauliflower if it wasn't in the name. Pimento Cheese Galette...what's the word...hmmm....divine! Spinach Salad felt like a summer evening on the patio - strawberries, feta, sunflower seed - wonderful! Artisan cheese Selection - it's cheese, what's not to love!?! The flatbread is 'hand-rolled' in house - babeeee! Seared Sea Scallops for the sea lovers. The real blessing was Savannah and Courtney. One of our favorite restaurants in Greensboro...and the patio is one of the best kept secrets in the city...give it a try! The food is always good and they vary the menu regularly...they seem to keep most of the same proteins and come up with new techniques for the preparation. Some go to items that are always on the menu include the lobster and shrimp spring rolls, fried oysters, and an excellent spinach salad. Additionally, I find their bar service consistently one of the best in the city. My go to is a Manhattan and they do an excellent job with it! I came in with high expectations based on my previous experiences; however, I left slightly disappointed this time. My Bloody Mary arrived with a single, wilted stalk which dampened the excitement I'd felt planning this brunch. The Korean style brunch bowl was lacking flavor and the choice of rice was disappointing as it was very bland and tasted like the bottom quality bulk rice you might find at a discount warehouse. I stumbled upon this place because I was staying at the Marriott across the street & this was within walking distance, so very convenient. My waitress was so nice & accommodating. The drinks were amazing. However, the lobster & shrimp spring rolls left much to be desired. They lacked a lot of flavor. For my main course, I was deciding between the corn soup and the poke bowl. The waitress let me sample the corn soup and it was delicious! The poke bowl was tasty, but did not come with rice. Once I put it over rice it was better. This was an exceptional dining experience! I recently organized a business dinner at Undercurrent and made a reservation for 10 people. Unfortunately, only 6 attendees showed up, and the remaining 4 didn't provide any prior notice--a situation that felt both frustrating and slightly embarrassing. The restaurant had graciously prepared two tables for our group, but we ended up only needing one. Despite the unexpected change, the staff handled the situation with incredible kindness and professionalism. Though understandably disappointed about the unused table, they quickly adjusted, and we were more than happy to relinquish the extra table for another party during their busy evening. I truly appreciated how the team didn't make a big deal out of the attendance shortage. Now, onto the food and service--both were outstanding! Most of us ordered the Ribeye, and it was absolutely perfect: cooked to order, fresh, and bursting with flavor. Alongside the entrées, we enjoyed delicious drinks (a mix of wine and cocktails) and desserts that were pretty good (I'm sorry, but I can't say the desserts were great but they were pretty good). Our server--whose name I believe was Scott--was phenomenal. His service was everything you could ask for: friendly, respectful, professional, and attentive without being intrusive. Decided to end my Greensboro visit with a light dinner at one of its most well-reviewed restaurants. Decor is elegant yet has a modern feel to it. Staff is friendly and i was seated promptly. Lobster and shrimp spring rolls- I came by specifically for this dish and...I could've just rerouted to my hotel and saved myself the time and bill. While you can faintly taste...something in it, I can't really pinpoint if I'm tasting crab or shrimp or just minced onion. It wasn't busy when I arrived and as I was admiring the artwork I was told the paintings were done by the owner and that I should wander around and look including the private room in the back. I enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. The service was very friendly as well. I went with the Waldorf Salad for lunch. Warm bread was brought out before that arrived. The salad did not disappoint. Went here for brunch luck for us. They were able to accommodate had the whole family out today. Staff was very friendly hostess greeted us right away. They already had our table ready set up with waters and fresh little mini biscuits. Top of them had a nice little crunch soft and warm on the inside packed with a lot of flavor. Plus they had butter and strawberry jam on the table made for a great little treat. I ordered the bloody Mary. Very good. My wife ordered the salmon. Toast looked amazing. Had a little bit of bite. Definitely worth it. I had the shrimp and grits. They use a tomato sauce in there the aesthetic pair as well with the sweetness of the grits shrimp was well seasoned not overcooked Our daughter had the breakfast burger had a fried egg on there. I had the black tie which was a nice twist on bourbon. My husband had a smoked tequila cocktail that was delicious. It's different having tequila that isn't blended or shaken with ice. Loved it! For dinner I got the ribeye with ratatouille and it was cooked perfectly. Paired nicely with a glass of Malbec. My husband got the yellowfin tuna special over linguini and it was so good! I went to Undercurrent a couple of weeks ago for the first time. The ambiance was great, the staff was nice and service was great. However, we didn't have as much luck with the dinner. We got the lobster and shrimp spring rolls which were pretty good, the fried Joyce Farms chicken with pesto linguini and the braised duck. It came out timely and everything was cooked just how it should be but the entrees both lacked flavor and were very bland. Well since I started the draft for this review, Undercurrent is our go-to for fine meals and brunch. They are so accommodating to vegetarians and other dietary needs. Tried undercurrent for brunch a few weeks ago and I'm super disappointed that I haven't been brunching at this spot before now. To start, the restaurant is super clean and tidy. The staff was also great. Our waitress was knowledgeable and friendly and really, I couldn't have asked for anything more when it came to service. Our food was delectable. We started with little mini biscuits that came with jam and butter. A great complimentary starter. For my meal I got the pork belly Benedict (UC Benedict on the menu). I've never had a pork belly Benedict and I'm so glad this is the dish I chose. If I had anything critical to say about the dish it would be that the pork belly was a little tough so it was hard to cut with a fork or butter knife, but the flavor was spot on. Definitely a dish I would reorder on my next visit. The cheese grits I got on the side were also great - seasoned perfectly. The company I was with ordered the nashville chicken biscuit with pimento cheese and the breakfast burrito. Both came with home fries and they both said their dishes were great. They looked great so definitely another option for when I return. Date night at Undercurrent in Greensboro. I had never been here and wanted to try it. Good parking for downtown, nice atmosphere. Our waiter, John, provided great service. The butternut bisque was pretty bland but the beef and lentil soup was good. We both got the pork chop special and it was tasty and the collard greens were very good. Desert was just ok . The banana cheesecake didn't have any banana flavor So pretty much can say been here done that probably won't make a return trip. read more

This was a great restaurant for Sunday Brunch after church. Called 3 other places and they all require to be added to the list, check in, and wait an additional 30-60 minutes to be seated. Husband called here and made our reservation with no problem or hassle. Parking is available right across the restaurant making it easy access. As we entered we were greeted by a friendly hostess. We arrived 5 minutes early and our table was already waiting for us with water already served. The restaurant had a peaceful and relaxed setting with natural light to enjoy a beautiful breakfast. Biscuits were brought to the table with butter and strawberry jelly. Biscuits are soft and full of flavor. Smoked Salmon Toast with a side of fruit was my pick and it was well presented, creamy with each bite, and egg were runny. Husband had the Shrimp and Grits and it was creamy and well complemented with the tomato sauce. There was not a kids menu, so my daughter had the Brunch Burger which looked amazing, but pretty big meal for a 9 year old. She enjoyed it, but had to grab a to go box. First visit was a great experience! It's a beautiful space and much effort has been put into creating just the right ambience. I appreciated the big, open space that allowed a lot of room between tables. Our server was also fantastic and gave us some great suggestions. We started off with our servers suggestion of the Crispy Fingerling Potatoes and the Braised Beef Turnover. The potatoes were wonderful and I could have easily gotten just a side of the Beehive Cheese Red Butte Hatch Chile Cheddar that comes with it. I loved the added caramelized onions as well. The turnover was also tasty, but the compote and the aioli it was served with was very unique! For my entrée I had the Maple-Smoked Grilled Pork Tenderloin. It was a very generous serving of pork and grit cake. The cauliflower was a little on the bland side and I didn't end up eating it, but I did enjoy the bacon grit cake, because who doesn't want more bacon in everything?? It's a wonder that it took me several years of living in Greensboro before trying this place out. It's excellent for date night, groups, casual drinks. What good are quarterly bonuses if not to spend them treating your friends to a fine dining experience? I hadn't been to Undercurrent in a few years and my friend had never been, which made it an obvious choice. Open Table made it super easy to make a reservation ahead of time. They're deservedly very popular but we were able to get a later reservation at 8pm on a Friday night. To start we ordered a couple of cocktails. They had several yummy sounding fall inspired beverages. I ordered the Perfect Pear (vodka, elderflower, pear, honey, lemon, soda) and my friend ordered the Cider Spritz (rum, apple cider, champagne). The presentation was beautiful with a dehydrated pear slice that topped my drink and a whole cinnamon stick in the cider spritz. Although a bit on the sweet side we both enjoyed our beverages. For our appetizers we split the brussel sprouts and a domestic artisan cheese selection. The brussel sprouts were perfectly roasted and tossed in a delicious mustard sauce with rosemary aioli. Our cheese spread included an Ashe Bleu, Espresso rubbed sartori wise, red butter hatch chile aged cheddar, Swiss cheese, red onion/date/raisin compote, and some crackers. The favorite of the table was the aged cheddar. It was so soft and melted right in your mouth. The compote was also a great compliment to all of the cheeses. My friend enjoyed the crackers saying they reminded her of thin crust pizza dough. For our entrees we ordered the seared sea scallops and the fried quail special. The sea scallops were cooked to perfection and so deliciously buttery and tender. I was a little disappointed by the risotto that came with it because it was pretty bland. The fried quail was also very good although a little awkward to eat since it was a whole quail. That's probably due to that fact that I don't order quail often. It was perched on top of whipped potatoes that seemed to have been slightly broiled along with some seasonal vegetables. Overall it was a really solid dish. I really wish we had had room for desserts but it just wasn't in the cards for this visit. I'll be sure to return and pace myself a little better next time! read more
