Pan Seared Salmon (so crazy good)
    Lauren M.

BREATHTAKING! PLEASE GO HERE!! i have so much to say. immediately went on my all time favorite restaurant list. i cannot recommend them enough, everything about this place is perfect!! food: pan seared salmon: 10/10 bread with olive oil: 10/10 salted caramel cheesecake: 10/10 chocolate mouse cake: 10/10 steak of the day (filet): 10/10 FRENCH PRESS COFFEE: 10/10 my most recommended items are the bread (free), the coffee, the filet, and the chocolate mouse cake genuinely some of the best coffee i've ever had it was so good. i had like 6 cups. same with the filet i've had a lot of steak in my life and it was so tender and delicious, also the best i've ever had. the bread was divine!! so soft it was amazing. the chocolate mouse cake was giving slice of heaven it was so good. ambiance and service: BEAUTIFUL INSIDE!! i loved the paintings and they had outdoor seating that was very cute. our waiter was so so nice i believe his name was Jeffrey. if the owner is reading this give him a raise!! everyone in there rocks and was very helpful and kind. we made a reservation through open table bathroom rating: 9/10 such a cute bathroom! the soap smelled so good parking: they have their own parking lot outside, very nice but relatively small

This restaurant redefines what a 5-star should be. The restaurant is cozy with a mixture of upscale and laid back vib. It's a old house that was converted to a wonderful restaurant. It still maintains the home feel but is definitely an upscale menu that changes frequently. Our waiter, Ian, was perfect. Very attentive without hovering. The food was delicious and well plated. The calamari was the best I have had in quite some time. It was tender and the portion was perfect for two people. My wife had the salmon which she loved and I had a 22oz KC strip steak which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. You will find MJ to be the perfect spot for any special occasion. I strongly recommend reservations made several days ahead of time. The restaurant is small with limited capacity but so worth giving them a try.

I took a date here for dinner. I ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and my date ordered the Shrimp and Grits. Both dishes were delicious. Robust wine list. Pros: Host was friendly. Service was excellent and very attentive. Food was excellent. Con: Parking lot is very small...My date and I were seated, on what must have been a back porch, on the first floor. It was extremely noisy and I could hardly hear my date speak. I wouldn't advise taking a date here, if you want a quiet space to get to know each other through conversation. I gave this location 3 stars due to the noise level.

My husband and I decided to try somewhere new for our wedding anniversary. We often written by this place and decided that tonight was the night and we're able to make a reservation on OpenTable. We arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation and the parking lot was already packed. The good thing is that there is ample parking across the street so you always have an option that doesn't result in too much walking. The internal downstairs portion of the restaurant is quite small and it was a bit too cool for my personal taste to sit outside on what looked to be a very enjoyable patio. I was a little disappointed by the placement of our table and a waiter, serving the other table, who kept hitting my chair without even a basic excuse me. My waitress on the other hand was bright and bubbly, very attentive, and very knowledgeable about the drink and food menu. We were promptly seated and greeted and cocktail orders taken. My husband and I decided to order the poutine appetizer, and as you can see from the empty plate photo, we devoured it before I even thought about the need to create this review. I also had a very tasty Ruby red grapefruit cocktail while my husband opted for what I believe was an apple pie flavored spirit. We were offered complementary bread and then ordered entrées of the braised rib on top sweet potatoes mash for my husband and the shrimp and grits for me. Both were awesome. And after the bread, large appetizer and t cocktails, I was able to only eat about half of the shrimp and grits serving, which was quite large. my husband cleaned his plate. We were offered a great dessert collection, which included a flourless, chocolate torte, another chocolate cake option, several cheesecake options, but given the serving size of our food, we were both too full for desserts, although they sounded awesome. I must praise our server, who was bright and bubbly, attentive, but not intrusive. Always there when we need something, but not hovering during the course of the meal. I will also know that while we were hoping for a romantic atmosphere the dining area is a little bit too crowded in the patio a little bit too loud to really call this a great location for a date night. We were also seated next to a larger party, which made it a little bit more difficult to have an intimate conversation.

Invited to a birthday celebration for a dear friend. The space upstairs was very charming and private. I arrived early and ordered a drink. Bartender recommended a cocktail. It was great- but $19.00. ( pricy for Greensboro- I almost think was a mistake) We started off with several appetizers- calamari, truffle fries, charcuterie!! I ordered the salmon. My meal was sooo goood. Chef came upstairs to check on us. Servers were all great. A+++

    Catch of the day

MJs is a restaurant that came highly recommended by a friend of ours, who knows the owners. We stopped in on a week night for dinner. We ordered the she crab soup which was full of nice chunks of crab and really very tasty! We ordered the catch of the day and the Braised Beef Short-ribs. The catch of the day was 2 soft shelled crabs lightly fried and served over coconut rice, it was a tasty dish, but not our favorite of the two. The short ribs were flavorful and so tender they were literally falling apart... So needless to say, this dish stole the night!! Also, if you are looking for a restaurant with a nice patio, this is your place. It would be the perfect spot to relax with wine after a long day at wWe will be back to try more items off the menu!

My last meal of 2021 was arguably the year's best. Somehow, during the decade-plus I spent living in Greensboro, I had never been to MJ's, but that changed when they were one of the few area restaurants still taking New Year's Eve reservations come mid-December. Regardless of the circumstances, it made for an excellent dining experience. A converted house (with limited parking), MJ's is sectioned off into a patio, a bar, and upstairs and downstairs dining areas. We ended up in the upstairs section, and it felt cozy and intimate. While MJ's runs a small menu normally, it was further pared down for New Year's Eve. That said, the few selections offered (including striped bass, Scottish salmon, prime rib) included several strong contenders. My wife and I went with an off-menu vegetable risotto (the chef can accommodate vegetarian requests, so don't be afraid to ask) and a seafood and grits, respectively, followed by chocolate cake and caramel brulee cheesecake slices for dessert. The food was all-around very good. The risotto was cooked well and offered a medley of vegetables. The seafood and grits (a scallop-added take on their usual shrimp and grits) featured a delicious sherry tomato cream sauce, savory chunks of Tasso ham, and no shortage of shrimp. The grits were creamy and smooth, almost enough to make "grit" an ironic misnomer. MJ's also offered attentive and amiable service and a decent cocktail selection, but the experience doesn't come cheaply. Entrees normally run in the mid-20s to mid-30s range, making this strictly a special occasion destination. All told, MJ's offers everything (food, service, ambiance) that makes for a great meal. Should you have an event worth celebrating, keep it in mind, especially if you enjoy the bounty of the sea

    Italian Gentleman

Hey family. I went to MJ's about two months ago. I was debating if I wanted to write a review because honestly, they don't need me to write one. Long story short, I had a doctors appointment and I wasn't far. My friend said they stopped in the day before and got a crème brûlée cheesecake. It sounded scrumptious so I was gonna pop in and have a glass of wine and get the cheesecake to go. I ordered a glass of Saint cosme Côtes du Rhône which was a fabulous red. But I'm not sure what happened if I was comfortable with the atmosphere or the faint jazz or maybe it was the wine. Something told me to stay and have dinner, so I did. I chatted with the bartender Ruthie who was super sweet and you all know I love good food and great conversation. I was sitting at the bar and I guess the stars aligned because everything was great. The only thing I will say is that I think the calamari and braised short rib was a skosh under seasoned. The calamari by itself I wouldn't have cared for but the aoli that it's paired with, made it top notch. I did need just a little salt and pepper on the braised short rib. Other than that, it was great. They have an extensive wine list and the drinks are amazing. The Italian gentleman drink is nothing to play with. I enjoyed it all. They didn't have the crème brulee cheesecake but they had an Oreo cheesecake which was great. The service was great and I love the set up. It's not really big in the inside but they do have outside seating. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation just to be on the safe side. Mondays can be busy as there are not many restaurants open on Mondays. Do check it out. You won't be disappointed.

I started with a Cajun Martini made with jalapeño-infused vodka, and it was exactly what I hoped it would be. It did not taste artificially jalapeño-flavored; it had a real kick and just the right amount of heat. We started with the Crawfish Rangoon Dip, and honestly, I could have made a meal out of it. I have had Rangoon dips before, but this one was especially smooth and full of flavor. If I had been at home, I probably would have been tempted to run my finger around the bowl to get every last bit. For my entrée, I had the Shrimp Étouffée. Others at the table ordered the Duck Jambalaya, Shrimp and Grits, and Gumbo Yaya. My dish seemed to get better with every bite. The Creole stew was rich and deeply flavorful without being over the top. I was especially glad our waitress suggested adding a side of garlic bread to mop up the sauce. Even the garlic bread stood out, toasted on the grill with a slightly smoky flavor. It felt like real attention had been paid to every detail. We all tried each other's dishes, and I would happily go back and order any one of them. The banana pudding at the end of the meal was just as good. It had a strong banana flavor and was not overly sweet. Our servers were friendly and attentive, and the meal moved at a relaxed pace. We never felt rushed. My only complaint was the noise level. The restaurant has a tiled ceiling, and it got loud enough that at times, it was difficult to hear people on the other side of the table. Even with that, I would go back to Blue Denim!

We don't usually venture out to many fancy steakhouses but we were very pleased with the service and food. The service was impeccable. Our server, Ro (per our receipt and I didn't catch her name so I hope I got it right!) was fantastic. She was quick with the specials and brought out a case of steak knives for us to chose from to cut our very tender and perfectly cooked Chateaubriand. She checked on us when needed and my glass was never close to empty, which was appreciated. The little plate of pickles and olives were nice little starter. Our sourdough bread basket was warm and soft with a chewy crust. The butter was not as salty as I would have preferred but it was soft and easy to spread. We ordered the delicious tuna crudo and the steak for two. For our sides were chose the caramelized brussel sprouts with bacon and onions, and the duck fat fried potatoes, which were my favorite. We opted for the cabernet mushroom sauce and the bearnaise, both tasty. My husband's birthday dessert were yummy little Beignets sprinked with powdered sugar and paired with a berry coulis. Overall, everything that we ate was excellent. The restaurant is much bigger than it appears from outside. Seating is broken up in cozy separate dining areas which helps keep the noise level down. It is definitely a more intimate dining experience. Most places are so loud these days but we were able to enjoy quiet conversation which was a pleasant change. Happy to add another awesome local spot for special occasions.

Their cocktail menu is also really interesting & creative. It's mostly whiskey of course but they do have other spirits. The inside is small but there's a nice outdoor seating area too. This really is one of my favorite places to get food in the area BUT the only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because anytime I've been there remotely close to closing, they definitely let you know & make you feel rushed. I'm not one to go to restaurants last minute when they're closing because I know how that can make it difficult for employees, but being somewhere 45 minutes before they close shouldn't warrant getting rushed. I've been there before just to have a few cocktails at the bar about 45 min before closing & had the same experience. We started off with some drinks. My friend loved her cherry ale and I really enjoyed my G&T , the glass it came in was just so unusual. The G&T took awhile to finally make it to me but i loved it. We ordered the tuna tartare and that was delicious and served up with fried green tomatoes which was a different take on it. Nice and fresh and nicely presented. Our entrees were the salmon for my friend and I had the Bahn mi chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. Usually this sandwich is with pork so I wanted to try this. The service for our dinner took almost 45 mins we had finished the app awhile back and my grind had another drink and still we were waiting. It was closing in on 6.50 Pm and at this point we would be inhaling our food when it came and rushing out the door . It came at 7pm and the sandwich was good but they should mention on the menu that it has mayonnaise on it as I don't like that but there was quite a bit on the bun. Not typically in this type of sandwich so I wasn't expecting it. The chicken was a good and flavorful and lots of other veggie fillings and the fries were great. My friend really enjoyed her salmon and the risotto it came with. Just disappointed we had to eat it all so quickly and leave some so we could pay and leave. We had our eye on the lemon posset tart for dessert but we didn't have time . We just thought since the server knew we had theater tickets she would have been more on top of it. Yes they were busy as it was a show night but the place wasn't totally full. Seemed like no urgency when we asked how long the food would be as we had to leave soon. I'd maybe try this place again on a non show night, as I thought they had a great menu. I enjoyed the place just not the service as we barely made the show before the lights went down.

They could definitely save themselves some money by eliminating the corn from this dish, make the coleslaw an option as an up charge and could lower the price on the dish in general or add a third piece of fish instead of the corn and coleslaw. Overall, it's definitely the best fish and chips we've had since moving to the area, but I would order it with no corn or coleslaw next time.

We finally had a chance to try Fishbones on Walker Avenue. We were looking for something casual and…read moreinviting and what we found was a rustic, engaging vibe at Fishbones. We started out with cocktails. I had a Hendricks dry martini straight up (it was delicious) and my wife had a Don't Call Me Sweetie which is mix of Hendrick's Gin, Lemon, Cucumber, Basil, Simple, Saline 15. It is very citrus heavy, so be advised. She had them cut it with a bit of cranberry to offset the citrus. For main courses, my wife had the grilled salmon and she chose sautéed garlic spinach and wasabi slaw as her sides. I ordered the shrimp and grits and my side was blackened green beans. Let's talk main course first. My wife's salmon was terrific. Flaky and moist and very tasty. My shrimp and grits was unique because it was a real balance between large pieces of shrimp and the grits. Many times you'll order this dish and end up with a pile of grits with some shrimp sprinkled on top. This version is very tasty and a really nice balance of flavors. The Cajun seasonings have it some kick, but it did not overpower. The side dishes are where we had a couple of surprises. First off the sautéed spinach was really delicious, but my wife's wasabi slaw was bland. It's a huge shocker because when you see the word wasabi, you expected to have some Asian kick to it. This did not. It was hard to even identify that it had wasabi in it. That was a disappointment. The surprise was the blackened green beans. They actually were one of the stars of the show. Their flavor and texture was just awesome. We could've ordered a huge bowl of it and eaten all of it. While it didn't need it, there was a dipping aïoli on the side, just in case we wanted to add that to the green bean experience. As I mentioned off the start, Fishbones is a very casual experience. It's very pub-like in that way. We really loved it and the wait staff, which is a team approach as anyone who passes you makes sure you're doing OK, were kind, upbeat and helpful. Even with the bland slaw, we can't lower our rating because overall the experience was terrific. We will definitely come back.

I went on a solo mission, and I sat at the bar, one waitress came by and gave me the menus, and another waiter came by and got my drink order and simultaneously another waitress came out and gave me chips and salsa, like a well oiled machine! I put in my crazy request for a veggie torta which of course wasn't on the menu but it was what I wanted, my waitress assured me it wouldn't be a problem and she and the chef delivered! The torta was delicious, there was a smorgasbord of veggies in there. The food came out really quick as well and everything was hot and fresh! I also got a cucumber margarita, they had actually muddled real cucumbers into the margarita and it was delicious. They also had red sauce and green sauces available which elevated the dish perfectly. The black beans were also delicious. The place looks small on the outside but there's a good amount of seating indoors and the bar area is fairly big. Overall though Crazy Mexico #5 had amazing good, impeccable service and a great vibe to it. If they keep this up, we'll be seeing a Crazy Mexico #6 in no time!
