my boyfriend and I came here for date night and got to sit on the rooftop. We have been trying to come here for a while, but haven't been able to get a reservation until now. It definitely met our expectations! We got one appetizer, drinks, and two entrées. if you are looking for good steak frites, I highly recommend the one here! Pro tip: get the fries tossed in truffle butter. I really enjoyed my trout and thought the sauce was really well balanced with the fish and potatoes.

Beef Cheek Bourguignon w/button mushrooms, lardons, pomme puree

Hey family! It's been a while and I'm happy to report, I've been outside again. The beginning of March I had a mini adventure and it worked out in my favor. I was in town for the symphony at Meymandi Concert Hall and of course I had to make it worth my while. I've had Jolie in my bookmarks for about a year but every time I was in Raleigh they were closed. I'd usually be in the area for a Sunday opera performance. Anyway, after the performance, it was time for some food and I lucked out because I was by myself and I got there right when they opened at 5pm. The hostess was very nice and accommodated me since I had no reservation. Just a heads up, it's small and intimate and they do have a bar and rooftop. It's highly recommended to make a reservation. When I arrived, there were already some couples seated. I was warmly greeted by my wonderful server Bee. Yes, just like honey bee. She was absolutely delightful and explained the menu items. Everything is made to order so you order your appetizer and main course and if you feel up to it, dessert at the same time. They ladder your items so you have more than enough time in between courses. I started off with a full bodied Bordeaux along with my Beet and Citrus salade. I love beets and I love red cabbage but I wasn't too sure about the mandarin vinegarette. I was wrong, everything worked perfectly and it tasted so fresh. I was very skeptical about Jolie because when it mentions it's a fine dining restaurant, I think of mini plates. Jolie gives perfect portions. I did not leave hungry at all. Then I tried the beef cheek. Don't judge but I did google what it was. I was absolutely in love. That was the most tender, succulent beef I'd ever had and the mushrooms and carrots were a great compliment. The pomme puree was excellent. It was creamy and yet light and airy. And lastly the lemon cream tart was to die for. If you love lemon, this is the dessert for you. There was no artificial flavoring, it was perfect with the pomegranates. Bee was the best. She was attentive and confirmed all my choices were excellent ones. She even helped me pick my wine because I do love a dry red. Overall, my experience was fantastic and I definitely want to come back and try some more items. Also the owners of Jolie also have Crawford n Sons next door as well as the speakeasy Sous Terre below the restaurant. If you make a reservation and you're curious about Sous Terre, you do have access if you are not a member. Check it out if you are in the neighborhood. Cheers!

    Charcuterie & Fromage

I came with my wife on a Saturday for dinner, and thankfully were able to get a reservation pretty last minute. I think someone had just cancelled their reservation beforehand, so we were able to get a 5:15pm reservation. It's a small space, so I would highly recommend a reservation. We started with the Charcuterie & Fromage, which included goat cheese, sheep cheese, chicken liver pate, some charcuterie, olives, and almonds with some slices of baguette. It was a good starter plate - I enjoyed both cheeses and meats, and really enjoyed the pate - it was just the right consistency and had nice flavor to it. I understand pate is not for everyone, and I'm actually pretty ambivalent towards it (I can appreciate it when it's there, but never crave it), but this pate was really good - it was probably my favorite part of the dish! I ordered the Beef Cheek Bourguignon as my main dish. It was beef cheek with button mushrooms, lardons (think small but thick pieces of bacon), and pomme puree (think very silky mashed potatoes). The flavor was excellent, the meat was tender, the texture of the pomme puree was so smooth, and the whole dish came together really well. The beef cheek is not for everyone, since it's a bit on the fattier side, but I enjoyed it. My wife ordered the King Salmon, which came over garlic rice, gribiche butter, and wilted spinach. The flavors were ok and the Salmon was a bit too raw (and she likes her salmon pretty rare). It felt like a standard Salmon dish in terms of flavor, and there wasn't much that stood out to me. The service was very friendly, our server was very detailed in explaining the menu and answering our questions, and prompt in bringing the food out, while allowing us to enjoy each course. Again, the space is small, so we sat very close to our neighboring tables, which may take some adjustment for some people. It's a unique experience in downtown Raleigh.

    Oaxacan midnight(?) cocktail, apple spritz

I've loved popping in here since moving into the neighborhood! The Oaxacan midnight is one of my favorite cocktails in Raleigh and Olivia the bartender is fabulous. I always enjoy the bread and butter (from Boulted so you know it's good), charcuterie, and gem salad as starters. My boyfriend loves the hanger steak and the burger specials. I enjoyed the roasted celeriac but I'm looking forward to a new seasonal vegetarian dish. The butterscotch crème brûlée paired with dessert wine is to die for. Also enjoy Sous Terre after dinner!

already thinking about when i can come back... the wait staff was so friendly, the ambiance was perfect, and the food was phenomenal. couldn't recommend the steak tartar and gnocchi more!! perfect for a date night, celebration, or nicer night out. they have a speakeasy vibe bar under the restaurant that's only for guests of the restaurant (or you can be a member of their cocktail club - "key club").

(Daily Special) Crescent Farm Duck with potato rosti, caramelized shallot, truffle hydromel, and table-side freshly shaved black truffle

Another phenomenal Scott Crawford restaurant, Jolie, has been on my list of places to try for a while. Located in the Oakwood district right next to his flagship restaurant Crawford & Son, this tiny French bistro brought all the flavor and flair. The service was remarkable - our server was very knowledgeable of the food with great recommendations, and the timing between ordering, apps, and entree was on point. We started off with the escargot and french onion soup. The escargot was served in a buttery broth with broccolini alongside oil/butter toasted bread, a butter-lovers paradise. The buttery richness was balanced out by the acidity and salinity from the anchoide and capers. The french onion soup had that essential crusty cheese top layer with croutons soaked underneath in the savory, oniony beef broth - another superb and rich dish. For entrees, my husband got the steak frites and I got the duck daily special. The steak was cooked to medium rare perfection, the sauce entrecote was creamy, tangy, and herbaceous, and the frites were perfectly crisped and salted. I had a few qualms with the duck, the main one being that the fat was not crispy and rendered. The "truffle hydromel" sauce was interesting - it had some warming spices like cinnamon and clove, but was lacking truffle flavor. The potato rosti was delicious and crispy on the edges, plus had mounds of freshly shaved black truffle on top, which makes everything better. Jolie is a great location for French fine dining in Raleigh! *Escargot: lemon, anchoide, capers, broccolini (w/ toasted bread) *Onion Soupe: beef broth, crouton, fromage cantal *Steak Frites: hanger steak, sauce entrecote, herb frites *[Daily Special] Crescent Farm Duck: potato rosti, caramelized shallot, truffle hydromel (addition of fresh table-side shaved black truffle)

Food was very good. The restaurant is intimate and close quarters, we sat inside, but would love to try the outdoor seating next time. It's still very pretty inside. A romantic, elegant feeling, while still having an engaging environment with the open kitchen. Our server was very nice. We weren't told the specials before placing an appetizer order, which bummed us out because we would've chosen the special instead. Overall a very good experience. We would recommend and we will be back!

Amazing food. So much better than coquette if you're looking for French food. All of the seasonings are on point, some are definitely mild but still super delicious. Cannot recommend it enough. There were 3 different dessert options: some sort of apple tart pastry, a chocolate mousse pistachio dessert (my and my husband's favorite), and I can't remember the last one but probably another chocolate one. Highly recommend the frog leg lyonnaise which is thinly battered and deep fried beautifully. They come with this great garlic parsley aioli. If you've never eaten frog before, it's a great introduction to it. The flavors are mild and delicate and the meat juicy and tender. The steak frites are absolutely fabulous. It's prepared medium rare (as it should be). My MIL prefers a medium cook on a steak so it wasn't her preference but she said the fries were great, nice and crispy. Everyone enjoyed those. Cod is nice! Not dry like a lot of fish dishes can be even at nice restaurants! The potato and leek soup is delicious as well, my toddler really enjoyed it. It comes with thinly sliced waffle cut chips. A great starter. The French onion soup is pretty good too but everyone preferred the leek soup. The duck is yummy as well but on the sweeter side and a fairly mild orange flavor. The service is attentive and super helpful and the server really went in depth with the food descriptions and restaurant's history. The restaurant is on the corner with outdoor seating on the sidewalk (dog friendly place!). It was super cold outside even with the heat lamps but very cute and cozy vibes all around. There are little lamps at the table that help for reading your menu. Be ready to throw down $$$$$ though. The food is excellent but it definitely adds up especially with a group. Someone was having a wedding reception at the restaurant too so fyi they do that haha. I believe they had rooftop access for their event.

    Duck Confitte

Another visit to my favorite Raleigh restaurant. As always, the food is extraordinary and service perfect. We sat at the bar this time. The restaurant is small and narrow, and the small bar area shares space with the open kitchen. It's always cool to watch the artists at work, creating all of the deliciousness. I neglected to note the name of our superstar bartender/server. It's a busy place, and she handled all of the things with an assured, professional smile and good nature. Especially impressive is shaking a mixed drink in one hand while simultaneously swirling a square ice cube in a glass with the other. THANK YOU for fantastic service. And the food. Started with onion soup and confit duck leg. Onion soup is the classic prep - a crock of hearty, rich, long-simmered beef/onion broth punched up with sherry. The crock is topped with croutons and a layer of cantel cheese. The crock is broiled to melt the cheese and turn it into gooey paradise. I've not had better French onion soup. The duck is a crispy-skin-on leg. Meat is tender, earthy and flavorful. The duck is plated with baby artichoke and carrots, with lardon (diced chunks of pork fat) and endive. Duck is sort of an acquired taste, and if you're a duck lover, this one is for you. Excellent. Loup de Mer is next. A pair of branzino filets with a stripe of skin still attached are pan seared. They're artfully served atop a pool of barigoule emulsion - artichoke, carrot, pearl onion, mushroom. The fish is flaky, white, moist. The crunchy skin a great contrast to the tender fish. The barigoule is an excellent complement - enhancing the flavor of the fish without overpowering. YUM! Also tried Parisienne gnocchi. The gnocchi are made from choux pastry mixed with gruyere cheese, not potato. They're light and fluffy. Served in a pool of garlicky broth with spring vegetables, truffles and dusted with parmesan. Not your Italian cousin's gnocchi - these are OUTSTANDING. Jolie is HIGHLY recommended. I'm always impressed by the attention to detail, from the food to the service. The best dinner in Raleigh.

    Lobster special
    Lori R.

Quaint and cozy with excellent food and superb service. We had the French onion soup, stuffed eggs, escargot, beef tartare, a salmon special and a lobster special. Every appetizer and dish was full of flavor and on point for savory French food. Tori, our server was kind and attentive. Overall, when we're back in the area Jolie is on our return visit list.

A seasonal tomato cocktail that was to die for.

The reason for the low rating is the food. My colleagues could not believe that I ordered the liver entree, but I didn't care, I love liver, and my wife won't fix it. I'd never heard of Mustard-Seared Calves' Livers, but, loving liver the way I do, I was willing to try it. When the liver came out, it looked like a huge pile of greasy slop. I was not deterred and took a bite. The liver was mush; it had absolutely no texture, and the taste was just awful. Not wanting to tempt fate (I have had food poisoning before), I did not eat any more than that first bite. As I mentioned before, the waiter was excellent and removed the offending entree. He offered to put in an order for something else. I opted for the calamari appetizer, which was okay. They comped my calamari and didn't charge for the liver. I hope the restaurant will rethink this dish. I suppose it could have a following, but at the very least, make sure the liver is fresh and high-quality.
