This is a great place that I found. 1. The Shrimp and Grits were delicious and perfectly cooked, the sausage was an added touch! My only complaint- IT WAS NOT ENOUGH FOOD! Lol 2. The Pulled Pork Sandwich and slaw were perfect- Just like the Brisket the slow cooker made the skin crispy and meat moist! Oh forget about the Mac N Cheese- out of this world! We came in for dinner on a weeknight during COVID, so it was pretty easy to get seated right away since service is generally slower right now. We had great service, so I can only imagine that it's even better when they are operating under normal conditions! We all ordered the brisket plate, so that's all I can really speak to, but it was tasty. It seems like they make some sauces in house so I recommend trying those. Every time I eat here I have a new favorite thing! This time it was brunch, and I had the blackened salmon benedict. It was AWESOME. They should have every seat filled at brunch for this (or the brisket benedict or shrimp and grits that those I was dining with had and loved). Can't even comment on sauces which tend to be important to some but the brisket, pulled pork and ribs were all off the charts tender and moist I didn't want any! Added a fried chicken bnls thigh that was so damn good. The side salad started was excellent too. My son had the burger and said it could be best he's had (all he eats ‍). Yeah, cool service, cool place, yadayadayada. I think... and I don't say this lightly... that I may have had the best chicken sammidge of my life.... I'm gonna go with that. The Dirty Bird was the best chicken sammich I've ever had. It was perfection. Everything about it made me happy. The "Louisiana spices" and chili oil kinda made it similar to the "Nashville" style of spicy fried chicken. Everything on it was great. The pickles.... yeah, pickles, were awesome.... I actually felt the need to say something about the pickles on a sammich... that alone means they were awesome. Fairly sure they make them in house, but I may be wrong. But yeah... best chicken slammich ever. For the side, I ordered the succotash, then had to Google it to figure out what I'd ordered. Having only had succotash once, here, I can say theirs is the best I've had in my life, which seems to be the theme. Really, though- to try something new and have it be as awesome as it was... you don't get to experience that feeling every day. No matter what else you get here, order the succotash for the side. I've been coming here occasionally for years but I've become increasingly disappointed with their food. The fries are consistently terrible. Over the course of a year I'd say we went 8 times & every single time they are over cooked/burned plus so salty they are truly inedible. When we told the waitress she kindly brought us more but although less salt - still too salty, still burnt. 2 other couples near us leaned in and said they agreed that the fries were terrible. I had the smoked salmon salad on the last trip we made there & I was so disappointed I'm finally writing a review about this spot. For $21 I was blown away at how poor the salad was. It was literally a small plate of sauce dressed leaves & a piece of salmon for that price. Oh, and there was 1 (I literally counted) just 1 thin slice of radish. No capers as advertised. I didn't see any 'lemon zest'. I felt truly ripped off. The brisket is excellent and tasty albeit expensive. Tip: order the sandwich for a better portion per price than a large platter. The succotash is too dry / oily and cloying. Not well made. It's been the same for years. It would be nice to see a few more carb options for gluten free people. Service is good, staff are friendly. Saint Lawrence Gridiron pairs classically creative craft cocktails and comfort food with an adroitness that commands respect. Came here with friends to celebrate their anniversary and so, of course, the first order of the evening was for celebratory cocktails. I ordered their Boulevardier, which is the fetching and always enticing cousin to the illustrious negroni. Substitute negroni's gin for bourbon and the jazz age darling of a cocktail is swirling in your glass. A cocktail that if done well is divine, and if done poorly leaves a flavor too Campari precocious and bourbon deficient. Fortunately, Saint Lawrence Gridiron does the Boulevardier and does it well. This spirit forward cocktail will leave your head humming and your toes tingling in the loveliest of ways. Next, came appetizers. Our dining companions ordered the wings while my main dining companion and I opted for the poutine. Poutine is Idaho meets Canada in one delicious dish. I have had ho-hum poutine and I have had exemplary. Saint Lawrence Gridiron's interpretation of the dish is by far my favorite. Fries smothered in gravy with the sharp zing of bleu cheese (instead of the more traditional cheese curds), this is not a dish to be trifled with. It was gorgeous and beyond flavorful. A word of warning, though--it is topped with beef--so not a vegetarians delight. For my second cocktail, I had their traditional Old Fashioned. My dining companions found SL Gridiron's Old Fashioned a little too citrus forward. For my part, I found it to be spot on perfect. But, then again, I like a little orange zestiness in my Old Fashioned. It was rich, lovely, and smooth as Mulberry silk. For my main dish, I ordered their macaroni and cheese. Delicious! It's not the most creative interpretation, but it was exactly what mac and cheese should be. It's pasta swimming in cheesy loveliness baked in its own cast iron casserole. What's not to like? For dessert, my dining companion and I shared their beignets and bread pudding and weren't wowed by either. The beignets seemed to lack substance and the bread pudding wasn't terribly memorable. Neither were bad, mind you, but they weren't fabulous either. The service was friendly but often lagging a bit. We sat on the patio, which may account for that. The patio is protected by buildings on three sides, which is nice. And, on occasion, they show movies out there. Get yourself a cocktail, some poutine, and enjoy the show! I went downtown for Sunday brunch. I was interested in their shrimp and grits dish. I grew up in Idaho and in California and had no background in Southern cooking. I was introduced to them at the Delta Cafe in Portland and during several trips to Indianapolis. Grits are a lot like okra. The people who badmouth them usually have never tried them or they've been served bad renditions of them. I noticed the menu said theres were stone-ground grits from the Carolinas. That was a good sign, because stone-ground are far superior to steel-cut. And there are very good grits that come out of North and South Carolina. My server said they came from Palmetto Farms in Galivants Ferry, S.C., which has a great reputation. The dish itself was wonderful. Plump shrimp placed on the grits and surrounded by a piquant red sauce with chunks of tomato and sausage rounds. The spice level of the sauce might scare some people off but it was right where I like it. There were strips of lemon zest and green onion slivers that also added to the flavor. I came in soon after they opened at 9:30 a.m. and there were already a few tables filled. I thought that was a good sign for a place that only opens for breakfast two days a week. The service was fine and workers were attentive. All in all, it was a good experience. read more

Love this place! First time in Boise, happened here for their outdoor seating and dog friendly atmosphere with a group of 7. Beth our waitress was spectacular: someone give her a raise for successfully dealing with my brother's chaotic ordering style and maintaining a good sense of humor. Our wines and old fashions were great; of the meals we ordered, they were all tasty but the top two favorites were the special Beef short rib and the Mac and cheese. The short rib was perfectly cooked, super soft and moist, super flavorful, and the sides - mmmm mmmm mmm! The creamed corn was the best I've ever had, and the potatoes were well seasoned and crispy on the other side with warm soft centers - absolutely delicious, we only wished there were more on the plate. As for the Mac and cheese, it uses fun curly Cavatappi style noodles and the cheese sauce is to die for. You will not have leftovers when you eat here; it's all too good! I am sad to report that I have to drop my review stars to three. I pondered putting two but I still really like St. Lawrence. I brought an out of town friend in for some drinks and the young gentleman that seated us was the only nice person working it seemed. Everyone else lacked a smile on their face or "real customer service" which consists of being nice, not just good service. Everyone working was standoffish, quiet, and they just seem to hate their job. While sitting there drinking a signature cocktail I wrote my yelp review in my head. After about an hour of not being treated like anything, people started to warm up, joke, interact. I then pondered not writing anything on my review but first impressions are everything. With this being said, I still like the drinks, food, and hipster atmosphere but I don't appreciate having to walk on egg shells with the people that are working there. So, the fries were good, but no gravy or actual cheese curds on the "poutine" left it kinda meh, black bean paste was straight bland and seems odd on "poutine". The brisket was super dry and stringy. Brisket sandwich was again dry, the bread, sauce, and arugula were all solid choices it's just too bad the brisket was terrible. No smoke flavor in the smoked potato salad and it was super runny. The fried chicken sandwich would be great with the correct bun as this just fell apart. I had high high hopes for this place and they blew it! Staff was cool though. Came here for the 1st time on a work lunch, group of 9. The menu is very limited and we quickly found the reason why. All their dishes, locally sourced, were amazing. The poutine was to die for, brisket smoked on site was fork tender and their horseradish/Gorgonzola sauce was addicting. Burger was perfect, homemade pickles a win and a coworker raved about the tomato soup made with coconut milk. The place was so great I brought two of my girlfriends the next day for brunch- Again very limited menu. I had the brisket and grits. Yum! Friends split the pulled pork. I asked for a side of the horseradish/Gorgonzola and to be honest- the potatoes on the plate were kinda dry and unnecessary bcuz the rest of the plate was amazing. This weekend while visiting Boise, we had brunch at Saint Lawrence Gridiron. The place was recommended to us by the lady at the Dollar Car Rental counter at the Boise airport. We made reservations on OpenTable for 10:00 am. When we arrived, they had reserved a table for us and we were promptly seated. We started with the Mother Mary drink which was a meal-in-itself! This is one of the best Bloody Mary's we've run across and came complete with a skewer filled with brisket, sweet cucumber, green olive and picked okra. Having entered the front of the building, we walked past the patio that had a large smoker and stacks of wood. We were told Gridiorn uses the smoker almost daily and we couldn't wait to try the brunch with some smoked meats. We ordered the brisket benedict, which was amazing. The meat practically melted in our mounts. The place was quiet and easy to enjoy a conversation. The wait staff was friendly and checked-in on us several times to see if we needed anything. It looked like the place could accommodate larger groups, but it would be recommended to make reservations since many of the tables were small (but could be pushed together).
