Wow, this place has their food dialed in! The burgers we enjoyed tonight were unbelievable. Everything from the perfect patty to the bacon jam to the absolutely flawless bun, this was truly spot on. This place has lovely outdoor seating which was excellent! In addition, the service was fab as was my drink, the Bees Knees (I'm a sucker for gin). We ordered the brisket with the sauces as well as a summer salad and both were superb. The menu was varied and all the food looked quite excellent as we took peeks of the food being served to the tables near us. Everyone was having a great time and enjoying the varied food available. Our tab was reasonable for what we ordered and there were no issues whatsoever. Good place and we may bring family to get a taste of that down home cookin. read more

After a lot of anticipation, I'm sad to say I was really disappointed with our experience here. My sister was recently in town, so I seized the opportunity to hit up this place, as I've been wanting to try it out forever. We got in at about 2pm on a Friday to find an empty patio. It was hot as hell, so this was not surprising. We honestly weren't certain it was even open, but pulled the door just in case. The place was pretty empty, again, not shocking per the time of day. It took longer than it should have to be greeted and taken to a table. Our waiter was nice enough, but not at all friendly or conversational. Just a "what do you want?" kind of guy. We were really bummed to hear they didn't serve cocktails before 4pm (really? is this common?), especially as there seemed to be an employee liquor tasting not 15 feet from our table. I opted for the burger, don't remember the name, the one with the egg. It was... meh. Wasn't a fan of the okra, so I took it off and added grilled onions. Something in the sauce was just not doing it for me, though. The burger was over seasoned in spots, as well. The fries were okay, but also overly seasoned, and over cooked. My sister had the Mac and cheese and actually enjoyed it, but I thought it was terrible. My boyfriend went with the pulled pork and said it was just ok. The menu was really limited (we were also confused as it said BRUNCH on it, very largely..), and everything seems to be very "niche." Every dish had to have something different about it. Despite the tiny water glasses, the interior is pretty neat, albeit "hipster." I might try to come back for dinner sometime, because I really want to like this place. Coming to the end of my trip. Asked what we NEED to try before we leave. This was right up there with fork. I saw the brisket plate and could not say no to that. The brisket platter blew my socks off! It's smoky and savory, melts in your mouth, can't get enough! If this was the only thing they served they would do just fine! We also had their Mac and cheese which was also perfectly balanced. Who ever they have as their chef they should pay them more because he or she is the reason everyone is talking about this place. The vibe is like most of the places in DTB very hipster. They have a nice outdoor dinning patio with a good view of the capital. This was phenomenal food! We were assisted in our choices by Billy, who clearly knows this menu and everything that goes into. His passion for the entrées was infectious, and these plates didn't disappoint. My partner loved the pork belly soufflé; I had the seared trout, which is definitely the best I've had anywhere. The seasonings, the cauliflower, the perfect cut of fish. This is the magical substance of what true foodie dreams are made!!! The Izzy Verde was a delightfully refreshing cocktail, too. Girlfriends and I made a visit to @slgridiron for small lunch as walking back to our parked car after shopping @capitalcitypublicmarket. Smoked wings are normally served during their dinner time but the chef made an exception and let us order them. They were delicious and I thank the chef. But our server's last remark as she was walking away about me asking her for a small to-go homemade sauce as she was walking away left us some bitter taste in our mouth. We sat on their patio in the sun and just didn't want to take a leftover (only very little was left) sauce home. Everyone that knows me knows I am a generous tipper. We had just gotten hipster t-shirts with the image of the state of Idaho, with a long beard coming out of the bottom. This place seemed like the perfect place to go next. First of all, when you enter the courtyard to go into SLG you smell roasted meat and it smells AMAZING. If you weren't hungry before you go there, You are when you approach. I'm sure they have vegan options but this place is for Meat Lovers. Went to SLG to play trivia and Won! So returned to use my meal voucher coupon that I won in the pub trivia game. Wasn't that hungry but ordered the Brisket platter to share. It was AWESOME. Grilled Brisket, flatbread, spicy mustard, baby gherkins, all come on a plank platter to put together your own little sandwiches. It was enough for both of us to leave satisfied but not stuffed. Saint Lawrence Gridiron is a few steps away from the state capitol building. The restaurant has an incredible, front outdoor patio, which is perfect for a summer night. It serves elevated comfort food in some of the biggest portion sizes I have seen at any restaurant in my life. Whatever you are planning to order, order about half of that and you'll be stuffed. I really enjoyed the wings, with the white BBQ sauce on the side and the mac and cheese. I likely wouldn't order the jerk chicken again, because it wasn't my jam, but would absolutely give this place another visit next time I'm in Boise. read more

Ughhh it was so good !! I can't believe I lived in Boise these last couple of years and haven't experienced their brisket. Seriously definitely come here with an appetite. The plates were very large and plentiful to share with a group of people. My family and I are really picky when it comes to service experiences and taste itself. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, mac and cheese, an IPA and it was awesome. The only star to give off for was because the Mac and cheese could've been a bit hotter-temperature wise. I think they wanted to wait with some other apps that we ordered. My family and I were SO satisfied. It was a Tuesday night that we went in and we felt everything was prompt as far as getting seated and having the food served. I highly recommend the brisket platter, wings, the mac and cheese, the chicken dish, pulled pork sandwich, and the hamburger. We ALL left with seconds for later ! Lol. Had brunch here for the first time Sunday and everything was delicious! I can't wait to go back and try other items from the menu. I had the Brisket Benedict, which I would highly recommend. Updated... second visit: Stopped by last night for drinks and dinner after work. Again, great customer service, greeted at the door. Tried the boiled peanuts and was not a fan. I think they tasted just as they should, but that didn't do anything for me. Give them a try and decide for yourself. The shrimp and grits, however, were magical. Apparently, so is the hen that laid the poached $2 egg that I added to the grits. It was an awesome addition, but a way over priced. I like this place. I will be back I'm sure. read more

The ambiance is a rustic modern leading into a slight pub feel. The staff attentive and cheerful. Tables and chairs are rustic industrial look and no table cloths. Music playing overhead was a little louder than I like but definitely not deafening. The meal was presented on white plates and was visually appealing. I ordered the blue brisket and it was a great choice. The brisket was slightly cooked too well for my taste ( note: I like rare) but the flavor was great. First time there since the pandemic. LOVE, LOVE the food. My low stars are for my comfort level when picking up my take out. The person helping me at the bar did not have a mask on. Not one of the cooks was wearing a mask. I know the science is still out on catching COVID from food but let's err on the side of safety. I have been very focused on supporting my local restaurants during the pandemic and getting takeout often and tipping well. When we get through this, I am absolutely going to remember the restaurants that were taking precautions seriously and caring for their customers. read more

Boyfriend and I went in for brunch on a Saturday and we had: Steak and Eggs (brisket, grits, egg, and toast) - (6 out of 10) Pulled Pork Sandwich (4 out of 10) Caesar Salad (8 out 10) Service (7 out of 10) Atmosphere (8 out of 10) Steak and Eggs -It was slightly disappointing more-so because the portion was one strip of meat. -The smoky taste was acceptable (6 out of 10), but I have a high bar when it comes to BBQ (thanks a lot Texas). Although, it was cooked fairly well -The egg and grifts were slightly bland. I had asked for a side of BBQ sauce and the initial taste was rather ketchup-y and the after taste was good. -The toast was straight up average white bread, which I'm used to some fancy poppy-seed, nutty, or special bread like in other downtown restaurants, so that was disappointing too. Pulled Pork Sandwich -The sandwich was unusual in the sense that it didn't taste particularly how you'd expect it to taste. I think it was because they use a mustard bbq sauce that is overwhelming and masks the taste of meat. -The mustard bbq sauce was rather sour in a jalapeño way. -Caesar Salad Was very good. I feel like my experiences here wax and wane. I have been here over 40 times in the last 5 years but this review only represents my last few visits. Biscuits and Gravy are a stellar dish here, but it seems they went from homemade to Pillsbury, and the gravy wasn't good anymore. They do have the best fries and homemade ketchup/sauces ever. Who doesnt love the smell of a woodsy smoker as they walk into eat somewhere? Blown away! We are huge BBQ people and this was the best brisket we've ever had. From how they plate it on a giant board, to the accompaniments: housemade pickles, compound butter, chutney, relish and homemade flatbread. WOW! All of that what an incredible bite!! This restaurant has a really unique and strong vision I am surprised super traditional boise has taken to it. They have because the food is just really really good. The interior is oddly homey and warm despite being extremely weird and modern. Its a bit hipster but not in annoying way at all. You sense the creativity and passion, no ones trying too hard with whats on the menu. Small menu reasonably priced, same with craft cocktails. The poutine and pork loin are also excellent. read more
