I call this an incomplete review as I only purchased bread, but bread is an indicator of the other items. Like the town, the bakery is rather quaint. As for the bread, paying nearly $10 for it I would expect a superb load but got a rather okayish or just above average loaf. Better than a grocery store bakery bread. The flavor of the bread just doesn't wow. If I were to spend $5 at a grocery store for bakery bread or this I'd take the bakery bread from the grocery store as the difference isn't large enough. If I am in St. Peters in the future I'll give the bakery a try during lunch. The bread alone doesn't fully do it justice, but the lunch will. Much like this little village, the bakery is quaint and for those who love the atmosphere, they may enjoy this place as they sit on the deck overlooking the stream. read more

There's nothing quite like lunch "on the rocks." And I'm not referring to various forms of liquid libation. The elevated rear deck at Saint Peter's Bakery not only affords diners a glimpse of bucolic bliss, but also a bird's-eye view of the huge boulders that populate French Creek below. Part of the famous Saint Peter's Village "Rocks Trail," the area has become something of a destination spot for birding, hiking, horseback riding, or just plain exploring. In the heat of summer, you're likely to find a variety of human flora and fauna braving the icy water and/or just lounging on the rocks. But the view from the bakery's rear deck isn't the only reason for paying a call here, as the cozy, historic dining room also has a great deal to offer in the way of comfort. Of primary interest, however - especially since Saint Peter's Bakery was named one of best bakeries in the United States - is the fact that the food here is definitely worthy of a look-see. As you would expect, the artisanal breads are made fresh daily. And the usual goodies - pastries, cookies, pies, tortes, and cakes - utilizing (but of course) Old World recipes, are all present and accounted for. But the kitchen also turns out some first-rate breakfast and luncheon fare as well. Breakfast dishes include Avocado Toast; Breakfast Sandwich, Breakfast Wrap & Potato Bowl, all featuring fluffy scrambled eggs with a variety of appetizing accompaniments; and full or half-size portions of Yogurt Parfait, composed of creamy Greek or coconut yogurt, house-made granola, fresh fruit, honey, and raspberry sauce. The Quiche here, baked in a hand-pressed buttery crust, is particularly good and available at both breakfast and lunch. Accoutrements rotate between spinach, tomato, feta,, turkey bacon, caramelized onions, Swiss, broccoli, cheddar, smoked salmon, asparagus, and cream cheese roasted vegetable. The day of our early afternoon visit, the Tomato Quiche (pictured) took center stage and was thoroughly enjoyed by my dining partner. Other luncheon possibilities include an interesting variety of sandwiches, wraps & salads. The St. Pete's, for instance, consists of open-faced French brie melted over apples and house-made strawberry jam, topped with honey, arugula, and sprinkle of sea salt on the bakery's rustic white sourdough. The Greek Salad also looks good... ditto the House Salad, a spiffy combo of apples, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, gorgonzola cheese, and artfully sprinkled balsamic glaze over fresh spring mix. The wraps - Roasted Vegetable, Chicken Waldorf, and California - all looked good. I choose the latter, a delicious (and prodigious) merger of sliced turkey, avocado, provolone cheese, and fresh spinach stuffed into a whole wheat wrap (pictured). Dessert...? A shared brownie topped with peanut butter icing and several items to travel. Originally making its debut in 2009, Saint Peter's Bakery recently reopened under new ownership. And owner/general manager Cassady Mayerson has promised her legions of loyal patrons that the bakery will continue to offer many of their classic treats, as well as a number of new items. In a brief message on the bakery's website, she requests patience as alterations are made to both the menus and hours of operation. My gf, dog and I stopped in today for lunch. This is such a cute place! The staff was absolutely incredible. So kind and so friendly. We ordered a couple wraps and enjoyed them out back on the deck overlooking the creek. I would highly recommend grabbing some food here when you're in St Peter's. read more

Nice spot to check out after a hike around Saint Pete's. Be careful when you go because the line can be out the door. They have a good selection of specialty coffees and pastries. Their small menu has some good sandwiches and soups as well. We had brunch there on a Sunday and we waited about 10 minutes in line and about 20 minutes for our food. We only ordered a parfait to split. It was worth the wait though. Very good! And so was the matcha green tea lattes we ordered. read more

I love Saint Peters Bakery! After coming here for years and getting some of the best bread, pastries, cookies, sandwiches, you name it, the bakery recently made my wedding cake. We've ordered custom cakes from the bakery before for family events and they are always amazing, our wedding cake included! They did such a beautiful job, the flavors were amazing, and the cake was moist. If you can't tell how much we loved it, we even ordered a separate cake aside from our tiered wedding cake to make sure there would be enough for family to enjoy after the wedding. A cute spot for a light lunch and sweet treat with coffee. They have a very strict Covid policy. A sign on the door, which I should have taken a picture of for the next customer. They require masks, and to order your food and wait outside until it is ready. We were unaware of the policy and they asked very nicely for us to mask up. We did have to wait for food, but they did not push us out the door to wait. Everyone who worked here was kind and patient. We ordered their lavender honey latte. Not our favorite, but we will try another latte next time. We also ordered their caprese special. It was pesto, tomato, mozzarella, and raw onions on their speciality bread. It was warm and toasted with a side salad of greens with a vinaigrette. Very good! I was not a fan of the raw onions, but my husband preferred them raw on the sandwich. I also ordered a Lillian shortbread cookie sandwich that just melted in your mouth and lastly we ordered their black granite torte. The torte was good, but I wish ordered a dozen of their Lillian's shortbreads. We will return to try out their other specials and desserts. read more

Intentionally planned a bike ride to St. Peter's village for coffee and something to eat and when we walked up onto the little deck area (where nobody else was sitting) we were nastily greeted by a woman who stepped outside and told us we couldn't have our bikes outside the bakery and she repeated this twice while we were trying to figure out what was going on. Fresh artisan breads and boutique-y desserts that don't just sit there looking pretty, but come through with major flavor! Their sourdough starter (I think this means yeast pot?) dates back 100 years, and they bake in French steam injected ovens. I'm not versed in the kitchen equipment part, though I do know about yeast pots, but regardless, the baked goods are really really good! Interior is quaint and chic. They had luxe fresh flowers on all the cafe tables, gorgeous old wood flooring, and upscale bakery displays with European-pretty confections inside. Staff is dressed barista style, in all black, with black waist aprons. Everyone was extremely polite, professional, and helpful. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and serving size. We missed the chance to try them for lunch (we'd eaten in Phoenixville), but we're glad we stopped for a quick sweet after a visit to Welkinweir. We asked for dessert specialties and were directed to the "Black Granite Torte," a layered chocolate torte with chocolate cream, and the "Cowboy Cookie," a raisin oatie with coconut, nuts, chocolate, and more! We also tried the turtle brownie because it looked gorgeous! Total was under $14 for all three, and each one could feed two. The Black Granite Torte had to be eaten there, but the other two could ride home with us for the next day or so. So now that all have been eaten, here's the comparison: The torte was chocolatey and sweet, but more subtle and sophisticated than the brownie. Both were very good, but had their own strengths. The textures of the torte were a strong contrast of dense, solid torte, against frothy, moussey cream. The thin ganache(?) icing on top was very rich in powerful chocolate, while the cream was more playful, and the torte was a cocoa flavor foundation. Each component had its own version of choco flavor, which all synthesized in that regal way that is characteristic of European bakeries. It was really good, and HUGE! The brownie was a lot more sweet tasting than the torte, but it was worth it for such delicious flavor. I did not get that overall caramel/nutty sense that I normally do when something is labeled "turtle," but the topping did have those components. The dominant flavor was the brownie itself, which was a dense, ganachey feel, not moist per se, but not dry or cakey at all, which is totally preferred by me. It too was very large, and I had to eat my half over a couple sittings. I was not crazy about the Cowboy Cookie, but my husband loved it, which is weird because he normally doesn't like oats. He happily finished it after I had a bite. The texture was there, the flavors too, it was just not a combo I can get into, personal preferences and all. But if you like those flavors, it was well crafted and, yet again, XL in size. The staff were friendly and chatted with us about the area, making sure we knew all the fun places to visit nearby. There are tons of neat spots in Hopewell Big Woods, so this area could easily be a day or weekend destination, and I recommend stopping at this bakery for a meal and dessert to refuel. Everything is made with great skill, love, and attention! This place is worth a visit for the ambiance and back deck view, alone. I don't care what season it is, or even if it's rainy, you NEED to go out on that deck and take a look at the amazing glacial till in the creek bed below! It is one of the coolest things you've seen in a long time! Oh, and they have live music on Fridays! A+++++ read more

Love this place The desserts are phenomenal! Lavender cookies and really all the cookies are amazing! They rotate their dessert menu so there is always something new to try. Precovid- they had the best brunch. Their Belgian waffles were out of this world. They still have breakfast sandwiches that are fantastic. They also used to have Friday night pizza and music. This place is amazing! In addition to being a top notch bakery, they also serve fresh, healthy sandwiches. You can eat inside or venture out into the patio and listen to the creek while you eat. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable and the food is consistently delicious. Also, if you can't make it to the bakery, they have a stand at the Phoenixville farmers market every Saturday selling a variety of their breads and other baked goods. This is one place that I mourn not really being able to find much I can eat at anymore since I can no longer have gluten (and am also vegetarian). Their certainly are some options, but I REALLY wish they would get gluten free bread. This place is absolutely adorable and before I couldn't have gluten I loved everything I ate/drank there. Stopped here for a takeout coffee and a croissant for the guys at home. By 10:30 on Saturday the croissants choices were chocolate, almond and ham and cheese. No plain - quel dommage! So I opted for two of the large coconut macaroons - large, chewy, sweet and drizzled with chocolate. French roast coffee was strong and not the least bit bitter. The St. Peter's Bakery was, up until June, the best coffee shop in the area, bar none. Poor management decisions and personnel shake-ups ruined the place since then. Now the former chef, Melanie has leased the bakery back from its owners. She's brought back her former workers and is once again producing excellent, excellent pastries, her full menu of signature sandwiches, great coffee and best of all, a friendly atmosphere. If you have been, like me, an unhappy exile from this place then be assured that your exile is over. Come back and see! Saint Peter's Village does not boast a ton of places to shop or dine, but this bakery is certainly worthy of a visit. There aren't a ton of tables inside, but they also have some out back on the deck and the place doesn't get too crazy, even on the weekends. Selection is not huge for pastries or breads, but you'll have no trouble finding something to enjoy in house or to go. This past weekend, they had baguettes and 3 other breads to choose from, 5-6 cookies, a couple muffin options and a few other treats. Tea and coffee, obviously with quite a number of whole leaf teas packaged for sale, as well as Valerio coffee beans. The chai menu was pretty extensive, plus a few espresso and lattes to choose from. For lunch, they boasted at least 7-8 menu items and 2 specials, plus soup. I opted for a brie, basil, tomato on a baguette and it came with a decent spinach salad on the side for $10. Quite reasonable for the size of the sandwich. It took them approximately 15 minutes to prepare, so it is made fresh to order, so don't expect a quick run in and out if a sandwich is the plan. Very friendly service too. Recommend if you are driving past on Rte. 23 or doing some hiking at French Creek State Park. read more

Tip for the girl who waited on me today: Don't give one of the few customers you had a hard time about something as petty as a small dog coming inside for two minutes while I placed my order. I've been coming to the bakery longer than you've been alive, no one has ever said anything to me before. It had nothing to do with training new people. I drove 20 miles to sit outside for lunch on a nice day with my 15 lb. dog, who I've been told is better behaved than most children. Fantastic place! I live in Brooklyn and stopped here on a day trip the last time I visited my family. It was hopping when we got there around 11am and I was immediately impressed by the excellent service from the energetic young staff. They seated us and despite the breakfast/lunch rush the table service was calm, prompt and unhurried. The crowd was a great mix of young and old, tourists and locals all happily rubbing elbows, eating, chatting and drinking enormous cups of coffee. It's a beautiful place-- a converted 19th century storefront with wildflowers on the tables and a large outdoor deck with a view of the creek--but the real selling point is the food. We got eggs with a side of fruit, potatoes and coffee and it couldn't have been better. As the rush peaked the crowd thinned and we moved to the large comfortable seats in the front window looking out on the pretty street to finish our coffee. Before we left I bought a bakery box of cookies to bring home and they were as delicious as our meal. If you're local, I'm jealous. If I could fold this place up and bring it back home to Brooklyn in my pocket, I would. read more
