Sakana is a little hidden sushi gem, though I'm not quite sure it's hidden anymore. On Friday evenings, the wait is about 20 minutes at 5:30pm. (Luckily, if it's too long, we're close enough that we'll just do takeout - 10% off if you order on their website!) For the price, the sushi and experience you have here is pretty spectacular! The staff are also friendly and personable which is definitely an added plus. As for the food, it was all quite enjoyable! Tasty, rather speedy, and reasonably priced. +SPICY TUNA ON CRISPY RICE (4/5): This is a pretty tasty appetizer! The rice has a nice crispiness (but can be chewy). The spicy tuna is also pretty perfectly spiced for me. +NIGIRI DINNER (5/5): The perfect portion for me with 8 nigiris and a 6-piece spicy tuna roll. My favorite of this is definitely the salmon belly which is the most elaborate looking nigiri of the 8 (tip: eat it with fish side down so it's on your tongue!). We've had this set in the restaurant and takeout, and if you have it takeout, they don't put any sauce on it. Did I also mention the spicy tuna roll has little crunches in it? +SALMON OYAKODON (4/5): The seared salmon belly is the same one as from the nigiri dinner. Furthermore, I actually got 4 pieces of each instead of the 3. It does come with a little too much sushi rice for me though, and just wish it was a little more vinegared. +MATCHA FLAN (5/5): If you love matcha, this is the dessert for you! You still get that slight caramel taste from regular flan. All in all, my experiences here have been great, and I wouldn't hesitate to dine here again! Our host told us the wait maybe 30 minutes or less. We were waiting for a table for four to open up. It's a snug place but we didn't mind the wait! The host apologized for the wait about 25 minutes in and even offered us water, so thoughtful! We were seated and got the truffle tuna to start. There was a fresh truffle shaving on the top of the tuna with avocado and it was super yummy. I'd get it again. I got the Black Forest and my fiancé got the Hokkaido. I thought his roll was better. The sashimi was delightfully fresh and the yellowtail tasted so smooth and buttery. Service was so great, the host was also our waiter and he checked on us multiple times throughout our meal. He even recommended their most popular appetizer the torched scallops. The presentation was so beautiful, the smoke was entrapped in a glass covering. Honestly the sushi here was borderline inedible. Everything just tasted completely off and smelled like a weird mix of gas and chemicals. Also a lot of their combinations in the special rolls just did not really make sense. The mango was incredibly underripe in the sakana roll making it very bitter and crunchy, not the intention I'm sure but just buy a decent mango or skip it if it's obviously bad. Glass was dirty too. I wish could give this place FIFTY stars instead of just 5; I've been yelping a LONG time and I think this is the most excited I've EVER been about a place. EVERYTHING here was perfect, but as a true foodie I'll start with the food, which was PHENOMENAL. If you're coming here, you HAVE TO HAVE the Sakana Roll and the Inside Out Roll. These two rolls were unlike any I've ever had in terms of complexity and perfection. I imagine that maybe you can find this caliber roll in California but definitely not out here, until now. At other sushi places I often feel like I'm choosing between healthy/fresh/crunchy but a little boring, and rolls that are complex and fun but too heavy. These rolls had it ALL - healthy, fresh, crunchy, but fun flavors tucked in there too. If you *do* love ultrafresh stuff, the cucumber/sashimi appetizer was also divine - don't miss it!! And the scallop appetizer was simply magical; it felt like we were on an episode of Top Chef. Even the green tea here was a special house made thing that had a roasted rice flavor going on in it; my husband loved it. And DO NOT MISS the desserts. The matcha flan was delicious and fun but the creme brulee was hands down THE best I have EVER had. There was truly something amazing about the custard - and I've had a lot of creme brulee in a lot of fancy restaurants. The service was also THE best service I've ever had. Our server volunteered his recommendations, which were all SPOT on, and really seemed interested in what we thought about the food and whether we loved it. The service was also super fast and impeccably attentive. I simply can't say enough. The decor was also great; upscale, modern, clean. The ONLY concern I have about this place is that if too many other people find out about it, the line will literally be halfway down the street. For real - on our way to this restaurant I was lamenting to my husband that we need to get out of Boston because the inconveniences of living here aren't justified by any of the benefits (food-wise) compared to so many much more livable towns. Sakana just opened on Mass Ave, and we are very excited about it! We got the combo special ($18) which had three amazing rolls and soup. The rolls had lobster, mango, various sauces, and crunchy toppings. It was a lot of food, and much higher quality than I have come to expect for sushi combos at that price. For sushi, Mass Ave previously only had a couple good options: Cafe Sushi on the very very high end, and H-Mart on the very very low end. Sakana is a great addition. I thought the rolls were actually the best of the three, the prices were reasonable, and the ambiance was much more relaxing than the others. I think this is the Sushi restaurant we will be visiting the most! read more

I absolutely love this restaurant, which has been a favorite go-to place for my partner and me ever since it opened. The sushi is delicious, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. We have never had a bad experience there, and we always leave with a smile, both from the great food and the great service. The restaurant has a very friendly, comfortable vibe, and we are always greeted with a smile from the wait staff who recognize us by now. Go to this restaurant! I promise it will become your new favorite. Separately, I am very grateful for the responsible decision that Sakana has made during this crazy time we are living in, to shut its doors to protect its staff and the greater Cambridge community. This is super average/below average sushi if youve had good sushi. The salmon avocado was bad, really tough and just low quality. And the spicy tuna had no flavor. Inside out was pretty good. (He could be the manager, looks like the guy in charge) When we arrived, we only got the chance to sit on the sushi bar, but as soon as there are two tables empty, the waiter immediately informed us those tables are available and we can move over there and move those two tables together.
