Chili Edamame is not bad, I wish for more spicy in it. Then the best way to end the night is having Espresso Martini with complimentary dessert for my birthday. This place is exceptional. Service, food, ambience, absolutely a must try. I ended up here searching for some good A5 Wagyu and they did not disappoint. From the moment I entered the door, the receptionist was very nice, professional, and accommodating. Sarah my server was incredibly personable and hospitable from the very beginning. She checked whether it was my first time visiting and once she found out it was, she guided me through all of the menus and answered every question I had along the way. She truly made my evening better and left me with an experience I thoroughly enjoyed. I was checked on throughout my meal by multiple people. The Chef and also who I believe was the manager. And I don't mean the usual obligatory walk by, ask how your meal is and move on. I mean a genuine introduction and inquiry about your experience and even finished with a handshake. I was made to feel very welcomed throughout. I forgot to take pictures of half my food because I got too excited! Lol. The truffle garlic edamame was super flavorful, the Wagyu croquettes were crispy, tender, and the sauce on top was very flavorful (this one wasn't my personal favorite, but was still very good), the A5 Kaburi Garlic Kushi was cooked perfect, seasoned well, and melt in your mouth (if your looking for Wagyu but not trying to break the bank, this is for you.) The A5 Olive Wagyu however was truly an experience. Melt in your mouth bliss. Overall, 11/10 highly recommend. This is one of my new favorites in Louisville. Super vibey sushi spot in Nulu with interesting drinks and appetizers. All of the drinks and food we ordered were good, however, our favorite was the heirloom tomato and crab appetizer. I've never really had anything like before and I absolutely loved it. The garlic beef skewers were also exceptional. The sushi rolls were tasty, but relatively standard. We were greeted with smiles and warmth when we checked in for our reservation. Since we were early, we went to the bar and my wife had a Japanese Whiskey Old Fashioned which she said was excellent. We then were seated and Chamberlain was our waiter and guide through the menu and gave great advice on ordering. We started with a ginger salad which they split for me and my wife. It was excellent. We had the Ora King Crudo, perfect salmon. Then we were in for two treats, the Wagyu Gyoza and the Vegetable Tempura. The Gyoza were maybe the best dumplings I have ever had. We then had the Chirazi Roll and the Dragon Roll and finished with assorted Nigiri. The restaurant is beautiful and has the feel and look of a top restaurant in LA or NewYork. This place has a very cool and chic ambiance with mood lighting, cozy booths and elaborate (somewhat offensive) statues, which can only mean one thing: big prices, small portions, and it turned out to be just that. The sushi rolls were small and about $30 each with one roll being $95. The fish was fresh, but you could get the same quality for a fraction of the price at many other sushi places in town. Unassuming when you walk up but an amazing decor from the moment you walk in! Really quite stunning with an amazing installation from Bali on the inside entrance. Great service, attentive but not overkill. The menu has something for everyone. A must have start is the spicy tuna on rice...it comes with four pieces of the tuna mix on top of the rice. I think the place was hyped more than it should've been. Went the week of derby on Winsday. Didn't get there too early, they refused to sit us before our reservation time and the place wasn't packed. Since my last review Sake A Gogo has added a regular nigiri menu, fixing my lone complaint. The vibes are still incredible. The service still obviously works incredibly hard. I still think of Sake A Gogo as more of a "high priced Steakhouse" budget-wise than "a go to sushi place" even with excellent nigiri. Some of that is being spoiled with choice in Louisville. But it is the sushi place closest to my home, so I selfishly want it to succeed, because I love walking in and getting a spot at the bar or the sushi bar for a good meal. read more

Sake A Gogo is definitely a vibe and a great place to start or end your night. The decor inside is very fitting for the sushi bar theme and our server Leslie was great. Food was excellent and tasty. Nothing we tried was bad. We got the waygu crocket, spicy chicken wings, salmon crudo, hamachi roll, wagyu skewers and prime rib negrima. My only negative is the portion size compared to the price. If you are really hungry you'll end up spending $200+ easily. Like I said, I'd go there to start my night with a roll or two and go to the next spot to eat something a little more substantial. I visited Sake A Gogo last night with a friend to celebrate my birthday. I wish I had listened to other reviews that warned me that they were still working through some opening growing pains. Between the two of us we ordered 5 dishes to share. We opted for the cucumber salad, the waygu gyoza (a special for the evening,) the tuna with crispy rice, salmon sashimi, and prime rib negima. I also ordered an Aozora 75 cocktail with the meal. The cucumber salad had an odd aftertaste that I couldn't quite pin down. Both of us were expecting something a bit more vinegar based so unfortunately this missed the mark. The waygu gyoza was one of only two dishes that I liked, although I'm not sure if they would've been as good without the accompanying sauce. There were only four in the entire order so I didn't risk it. The tuna with crispy rice was bland and had to be rescued by the gyoza sauce. I had seen several people say they were excited for someone to offer this dish and I left wondering what the big deal was about. The salmon sashimi was fine. I'd seen another review that went on about how salty it was and we didn't have the same experience at all. The pieces seemed small for the price. The prime rib negima had great flavor but they arrived cold in the middle (not just rare) and were eventually removed from our bill. The prices varied from $12 to $24 per plate. This was what I would consider a pricey meal and I left still hungry. Service was pleasant when we saw her. I had to ask someone else to get her attention twice, because she was busy chatting with the bartender. The front of the building is beautiful. We meant to walk back into the restaurant to see the rest of it but we were both so perturbed with the evening that we left as quickly as possible. I was so disappointed in this visit after having frequented Belle Noble restaurants for years and expecting the quality that those places usually offer. We waited a month after opening to let them work the kinks out. Unfortunately, it wasn't long enough. Pros: exceptional decor and atmosphere. It follows the concepts of the other restaurants by the owner- just a bit over the top but still exciting and fun. It's amazing to me the attention to detail that greets you everywhere you look. You'll love this place. The food was presented beautifully and the taste was both delicate and complex at the same time. Flavors combined to present an experience unlike most other restaurants in town. The only drawback to the evening was service. Failure on so many levels. Our server came by once and then anytime we needed something we had to flag him down. At first, food came smoothly and quickly. But they brought two of one item- one was wrong. It took 30 minutes and the manager intervening twice to finally get our missing dish to the table - and it came after they had cleared the main meal. Our second round of cocktails also took almost 30 minutes and we had to flag our server multiple times. Again, It was the manager who had to finally fetch them for us. It wasn't just our waiter- food runners brought plates to our table 4 different times during the evening that were meant for other guests. And finally, even though we expressly asked for split checks when we ordered, it came on one bill. The corrected split was wrong, and we finally had to mark up the bill to show him who ordered what. And of course we had to have the manager process our payment as the server was elsewhere. We saw the manager more times than our server. I expect mistakes to happen. The manager was top notch, corrected things and was genuinely horrified with our server. Our server just acted like he didn't care; like he was just going through the motions. And at this level of dining- with these prices- he's got to do a whole lot better job of tracking the meal and taking care of his guests. In spite of a very mediocre server, the evening was wonderful. The owner himself was there and greeted us twice. Staff regularly acknowledged us and wished us well. The presentation of the food was perfect, unique and impressive. Best expresso martini in town. And management, once involved, handled the situation well. In spite of our server, we'll be back to try more, and suggest you all try it too. Very well thought out restaurant with amazing food and decor. It will be a great evening for you. Each room in the restaurant were beautiful, and had their own unique style. Hands down the best Japanese food I've had since my last time in Japan. The Wagyu Croquettes were a perfect warm up to this meal. I cleaned my palette afterwards with the Cucumber Salad which was so crisp and fresh with a hint of smoky flavor that make it unique but didn't overwhelm. The sake selection was stellar and I settled on the Black Ice which was light sweet and refreshing. They had multiple other selection by the glass which I intend to go back and try. The nigiri was heaven sent. Melt in your mouth Ora King Salmon, Ebi, and Uni perfectly prepared. The wasabi was real and incredible, if you've never had real wasabi you can eat it by itself. The wasabi beans were the best I've had. Also, the Tamari soy sauce was a mellow and welcome companion that I didn't know I needed before they brought it to my attention. Overall, better than Sushi Kashiba in Seattle which is remarkable given the location and the relatively new status of the restaurant. This is a must visit for anyone who appreciates incredible sushi and is worth driving several states simply to try. Receives my unconditional highest recommendation.
