There are some places that you'll never forget because they take you so completely by surprise. Flew into Syracuse late last night on business and yelped this place which had 4.5 stars. I am always a little leery of sushi places not on the coast but figured, what the heck. Let me tell you something - this place is absolutely top notch. I would it against the top places I've eaten at in Boston and San Francisco. It's not Michelin star quality but it's not pretending to be. We enjoyed our dinner so much (the sushi, the salads, the entrees) we came back today for lunch What I can't understand is why to so dead in here. We're one of three parties - makes no sense. Terrible service. The waitress completely messed up our order. We were sitting for more than 20 minutes before anyone came to ask for drinks. She forgot about our appetizer order. We were sitting for more than 45 minutes and our food had not arrived. People who cam after us ate and left while we were waiting. This is, without doubt, the best sushi in suburban Syracuse. The rolls are good, the prices are competitive, and the staff is very friendly. The atmosphere is fun, without being too trendy. Feels like a nice local restaurant should, but with better food than I expect from a normal local place in Syracuse. We've done both sushi and hibachi here, and it's all good. Goodbye Sake Bomb. Have been coming here for sushi for years, and have always enjoyed it. Four in our party on 12/12 for a pre-holiday dinner (Two couples). We all ordered sushi and appetizers, plus drinks and a bottle of wine. At least an hour went by and no appetizers. The table behind us was seated and served, and we still had no food. We all noticed sushi plates sitting on top of the bar for some time. Turned out to be ours. Finally something was said to the waitress about our food and appetizers, then everything was brought at once. there was almost no room on the table to set all the plates down. we did not see the waitress again after that point. When it came time for our bill, the manager brought it to the table. We had asked for separate checks, and each couple had $50 for $30 coupons but were told they would only honor one per table. Quite honestly, we would have spent far less had we come by ourselves instead of with another couple. In any event, they would only honor one, therefor one bill was significantly higher than the other (ours, as we told the other couple to go ahead and use their coupon). The bills were taken along with each of our cards. Then we all parted ways and went home. Unfortunately it turned out the wrong bills were applied to the wrong cards and we didn't catch it until later. The worst part of the evening was yet to come. Within a couple of hours of returning home, three out of four in our party all were sick for the entire night with the same exact symptoms. The next day one of our party contacted the restaurant to let them be aware, and spoke to the manager, who could have cared less. He asked if we had been to the hospital (I have had food poisoning two other times in my life and not once have I gone to the hospital, and especially not during a pandemic!), if not then he had nothing to say about it. Then HE brought up the check issue...so he knew exactly who he was talking to and that the bills had been charged incorrectly. His solution was to "work it out with your buddy"...not especially convenient as we live 30+ miles apart, or we each had to come in together with our cards and they would correct the charges. Again, not convenient. We ended up taking care of it ourselves at a later time. So needless to say, Sake Bomb has lost four long-time customers, and I wasted $30 on a discount that I will now never use. Getting sick after our meal was enough, but the entire experience that evening was beyond sub-par. When you top it all off with the complete disregard on the part of the manager, and it is officially off my list. I know good help, or any help at all, is hard to find these days, but I can't help but wonder if the restaurant owner would condone such a complete and and utter lack of customer service on the part of the staff. read more

We ordered take out and had high hopes. They said it would be ready in 25 minutes, we ordered some dumplings and 3 orders of drunken noodles. When we arrived 25 minutes later, nothing was ready except their arsenal of excuses! They had no problem asking for payment while we waited for the food. Fast forward another 35 minutes, still no food, they said they were getting slammed in the kitchen...not my problem! Called on 11-9 for reservations for 11-11, was told you need 6 people no problem, Asked if they considered Veterans Day a holiday and woman on phone checked with someone and they said it would not be a problem. Tonite it was a problem - the manager (very rude) wanted to know who I spoke to, told her I didnt know, to which she said "I was the only one here Tuesday" which in itself is a foolish comment. This manager had a foreign accent and the woman on the 9th spoke perfect English. She would not honor the coupon! So we told her we would not be back again. The food was ok, the crab ragoon small and plain tasting, the beef and chicken teriyaki again was bland. No thanks-Ill drive and extra distance and go to Ichiban next time. We had my daughters 30th birthday party tonight ! We were a party of 10. Our server was Ramon. He was great. !!! We brought in our own cake and ice cream and even a bottle of champagne. Needless to say, he had a lot to do for us. He did it all so graciously; from hanging up our coats when we first came in to taking a picture of our family just before we left. Very good server and so pleasant ! Thank you Ramon !!! We had a great time. I have to mention our chef as well. Me and my wife got together with life long friends that we do not see as much as we used to. Went to Sake Bomb for dinner as we have eaten there in the past. Well have to admit it turned out to be worst experience I have had in 45 years. There were 4 in our party. We showed up and waited 45 min for a seat that we could have sat down 20 min earlier. There were 3 to 4 open tables waiting to be cleaned off so new people could sit down that they never cleared off. The 4 of us both had 50 for 30 coupons. Everyone in our party ordered drinks and one bottle of wine, we all ordered Apps and entree's. After 35 minutes we noticed food just sitting on the sushi bar with no one picking them up. After 45 min we started noticing people sitting down around us after being seat after us, and get served their food. I then said something to the waitress and within 3 minutes the waitress brought the complete meal apps and entrees at same time there wasn't enough room on table for all the plates and I noticed that she took the plates off sushi bar that had been sitting there at least 30 min. I said something to the Manager who was completely out of line giving me an attitude for saying something. When the bill came the manager brought it, not the waitress. We had separate checks, when asked to use 50 for 30 the manager said no you can only use one per table. So one bill was a lot higher than the other. If this was know, we probably would not have order as much food which resulted in one couple got stuck for full bill when they purchased a discount coupon. The manager takes my discount off my phone and we both gave him our cards to pay for the bills. Come to find out he put my discount on my friends bill and stuck me with full bill that we did not notice until later. *******The worst part of this experience is now. 3 out of the 4 of got sick about 4 hours after eating. The 4th person did not feel real bad but had stomachache. I called the Sake Bomb the next morning to tell them about the just to make sure to check so no one else got sick if they had a bad piece of fish. I spoke to the manager he asked me "did all the people go to the Hospital"? I replied no did not think going to Hospital for food poisoning was appropriate during a Pandemic. The Manager replied "well when you get a hospital report call me back and let me know you have a report." I replied that's your answer and he said YUP. I then asked the manager to straighten out the bill as he knew exactly what I was talking about.The managers response was settle it with your friend let him pay you back. Steak for me that they got a perfect medium, salmon for my son and the tofu vegetables for my daughter. Huge portions even for the kids menu! They do seat you with other families unless you have a big party but I think that's part of the fun. They made sure to involve everyone at the table including the baby. the sushi is decent, but service and attitude is lacking. while our server worked very hard to get everyone served, she was the only waitress for over 10 tables and the sushi bar. the hostess was less than thrilled with having to seat us, I'm pretty sure she had just rolled out of bed. In past visits, we have left without being seated because there was no hostess at the station, and no one even greeted us. We waited, and finally left to find a different restaurant. At this visit, we watched other employees do nothing while the waitress struggled to keep up. I suppose they thought they were doing something, but tables were left unbussed, people waited for drinks and to place their orders. I was surprised people didn't get up and leave. The fact is, we won't be attempting to eat here again. It just doesn't seem that they are serious about running a restaurant.
