Shoutout to bartender Andre who was great. It's a small homey dive bar attached to Magooby's joke house, ample parking in the open lot. The kitchen needs improvement- ordered a salad with grilled chicken, came out without the grilled cjicken- apparently they forgot to communicate to bartender that they were making a fresh batch so it would come out later. Then partway through eating my salad, found one of those plastic square things (used to close a bread bag) in it. Bartender had it sent back, watched them remake a new salad, and they comped my tab that night for the mishaps, which was nice of them. The newly made salad did taste pretty good. The pan seared scallops came out with a strong "fishy" smell. They however were tasty and spicy. This was a small plate as it was only 3 scallops in total. I ordered the Alfredo with salmon and my friend ordered the chicken Alfredo. We were excited to try a new spot, especially after seeing the dish online. What came out was nothing like what was advertised. The Alfredo was soupy, oily, and had zero presentation. I took one bite, and my friend didn't touch his at all. I let our server know, and he handled it professionally. When the manager, Missy, came over, the tone immediately shifted. Before I could finish explaining the issue, she cut me off to say she "normally doesn't take anything off the bill but will this time." Her tone and attitude were unnecessary, especially considering I was calm and respectful. I tried to explain that both dishes were inedible, and she cut me off again to say she could only remove one. I told her we didn't even want a refund -- we were willing to switch dishes -- but she then told us the kitchen was closed. My friend let it go, but the dismissiveness was noted. When the revised bill came, the math didn't add up. The Alfredo I ordered was $30 with salmon, yet the difference was only about $4. I checked the receipt and saw she added an 18% gratuity -- nearly $30 -- even though our original receipt was printed at 8:17pm and we received our food well before that. When I pointed this out, she claimed the invoice was "reprinted" and she "had to add it." That was not true based on the timestamps. She then told me she would remove it but made a point to say the server deserved a tip. I let her know that wasn't a concern -- he was the only person who provided good service. The entire interaction felt dismissive and unprofessional. We were the only Black group in the restaurant, and although the server and another employee were also Black, the manager's assumptions and tone made it clear she thought we were trying to get something for free -- which was never the case. The issue was the food, not the pricing, and definitely not the server. We were excited to find a new hangout spot, but after this experience, we won't be returning.
