I haven't been to this restaurant in about a year. I ate inside last time and the food was ok. Well I decided I wanted pad Thai and I should have turned around when they could not answer my question about some ingredients that may be in the dish. I asked it there was MSG or if it was made with oyster sauce. Nope. I got the confused look. Well $15 later for chicken pad Thai. I went home and began to eat it and it was like they dropped the salt container into this dish. I dumped it down the garbage disposal. Well 15 minutes later, my question was answered. Chest pains because of the MSG / and or oyster sauce. (This is a food allergic reaction when I eat MSG) Well I spent the next 2 hours flushing my system with water. This place is new, and as mentioned by other reviewers, the decor is really beautiful. I stopped for takeout maki to see if it could match the Boston quality--with Mansfield prices. I got the maki combo A with Miso soup and salad. They don't tell you how many pieces of maki you get on the menu. They serve 6 pieces of each for a total of 18. All this for $12. Good value. I tried a couple of pieces of sushi also. The soup was excellent, salad OK and the sushi bar orders were very good. The rice was authentic and did not fall apart. The staff is all Japanese and seemed very friendly. They give you a ton of pickled ginger which is very strong compared to what I am used to in Boston. The soy sauce was a bit on the strong side, but that is an observation, not a complaint. Prices are reasonable and the food is excellent. I saw the hibachi area where groups sit around a chef watching him prepare everyone's meals. I am going to try that next. It looks like fun and the prices were reasonable. read more

Went in on a Wednesday night with friends. Nice and quiet. The service was impeccable! The atmosphere was very inviting. The food was to die for! We ordered the hibachi rice, very moist, not over done, not loaded with vegetables. Crab and shrimp tempora with SOY paper, cause I don't like seaweed. An order of chicken wings, cooked to perfection! It had an amazing glaze on them that was so good. We topped off the night with a hurricane scorpion bowl for 3. Beautiful set up. i would say, 2.5 stars overall..? walked in with a friend around 3:30pm (give and take) on a week day; aiming for lunch but whatever goes. decor is nice; they obviously put effort into it (or maybe i'm doing a home reno myself so senses kinda sharpened)... hostess seated us, waiter came to take order, waitress/bus lady(?) came to check on us and refilled beverages. was a little confused w/the latter two. food: passable. except that the teriyaki beef skewer was chewy and bland (slathered in sauce), raw fish on top of one of the rolls was giving me frostbite, and the volcano roll was just way too explosive for either of us (had to pick out the jalapeno after the first piece). the chopped tuna on top of the volcano is...kind of a mush too. the other two rolls w/soft shell crab and tempura shrimps were pretty good -- portion is satisfying too! spider roll has a cute plating. service: like said above, a bit odd. i would say the staff were trying, and not being rude at all. but it's just not quite up to standard (lack of training? management issues, perhaps?). example 1: i looked all over the menu for the time limit on the lunch special (which is a pretty good deal!), but to no avail. figured it'd be over by then, but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. waiter response was: "naw, that's over." maybe it's just me, but his tone sounded a little bit along the lines of "shouldn't you know?" to me. like i said, he wasn't trying to be rude, but know that if your menu didn't say, you can't fault me for not knowing (hence asking). example 2: secondary waitress/bus lady came by to check on our table, asked us how the food was, asked if we needed refills on our hot tea, gave us to-go box (did she give us the check too? hmmm). again, i KNOW she wanted to provide service, but the rather abrupt "excuse me!" just startled me every time she approached. and she did her tea refill at the wrong timing -- first time too early when our cups were still at least 60% full, next time too late at the very end of our meal, when we had emptied our cups for a while. what's more, when we got the bill, i found that they did charge a couple dollars for the tea. well if that's the case, then i shall hold you to an even tighter standard for the refill! all in all, not a bad experience; would give 2.5 stars if allowed. just not rushing to go back, either, for the $60 lunch for 2 it ended up to be. btw, the bathroom was kinda meh too. basic bolt lock with the stopper looking like the head of a nail/screw. real classy. read more

Ate here over the weekend. This was by far the worst sushi I've ever had. All of it smelt very fishy. I know the irony in saying that but fresh fish shouldn't smell the way it did. I refused to eat any of it. The manager would only say "well it's all fresh". Nothing was taken off the bill. My concern was more with getting sick. My mother had eaten some and became sick. Went here for a graduation with a party of 10. Manager wouldn't seat 8 of 10 for some unknown reason because the tables are all one party per table. Once seated we waited 15 minutes for water. Another wait for drinks - which were wrong. Another wait to order and you guessed it, 3/10 wrong orders. Totally worth skipping. Went for lunch on a Friday. Around 11:45 so not busy at all. Got the steak and my son got the shrimp. Absolutely delicious great service, our cook was very entertaining and very nice to us . Visited a few times. Last night was awful! The one star is for my husbands meal which he enjoyed . I got the filet hibachi dinner medium well- my meat was raw ! I finally grabbed the waitresses and told her she said they would take care of it . Clearly they think we are stupid because the meat did have more sauce thrown on it , but never went back on the grill , so ya, still raw . I was pretty irritated by that point as my husband and daughter were both already eating. Our daughter ordered an order ( 2) mochi, she received 2 plates with 2 on each ! We then were handed the bill ( almost $100 ) wrong bill. My husband has to go up , find the hostess and tell her this wasn't our bill and also we had only ordered 1 dessert, by the time the ? Manager ? Finally came over , our mochi loving daughter had already started eating the second dessert , we were fine paying because she had eaten it - he said well what's the problem, she is eating it . This was my second time here, the first time was "meh" but not bad... this time was awful. Broken door probably should've been a sign....When we walked in there was a couple waiting but nothing ridiculous but no one even said as much as a hello for 5+ minutes. When someone did appear they walked up to the couple standing behind us (in what was a clearly formed line) and helped them first. Luckily the couple was nice enough to say something so no foul. We were sat down with barely a nod and the menus were just stacked up, not handed to us or anything. No table setting and the seat and table just felt dirty and grimey. Crumbs everywhere with that grease trap smell. About 20 or so minutes a waitress approached our table, literally threw napkins and chop sticks at us and said, "Yeah." If I didn't know any better I'd think this was a joke. The dishes we eventually received were most certainly dirty. The tempura was pretty awful, tasted like the deep fryer hadn't been cleaned. The maki was downright in-eatable, the fish was very fishy and discolored, the rolls themselves were malformed and just sad. I ate them because I didn't want to seem ungrateful for the lunch my husband took me out to but my stomach has hurt ever since. I also had a Philadelphia roll and the cream cheese was sour. They basically forgot about us for over an hour after our food came, then someone came over finally to see if we were done and almost seemed annoyed we were still there. I used the restroom while waiting the next 20 minutes for them to run our card.. the back hallway was filled with trash and smelled like death and restrooms were very dirty. Sake is a new Sushi/Japanes Habachi place in the new Mansfield crossing. First, this is a georgous place. They spent some dough with very decent lighting, furnishings, etc....They even have a waterfall We went for lunch and chose the habachi...(when was the last time you had habachi for lunch) and we are ushered into the habachi room with 6 habachi areas. For $11, you have clear soup, which was surprsingly good. You also have salad with a surprisingly consistent ginger dressing But wait there is more: You get the show. A guy who plays with utensils and is part comedian, part juggler and part cook. He prepares the fried rice, noodles or whatever meat you desire So you get the salad, soup, show, rice, noodles and meat for the same low price of $11 It was a pretty interesting lunch read more

I love hibachi. I mean, I really love hibachi and Sake was just plain awesome. Our chef, Harry (that's right...Harry) was a real good time who was very loose with his sake bottle which made for an even better time. He was very entertaining and very thorough while keeping us entertained. Harry was kind enough to pad the tab by suggesting 8 sake bombs which were fun, but 9 bucks a whack. The soup & salad was good and while I'm not a sushi guy, most of table mates ate up their sushi apps. For my entree I had the filet & shrimp and neither disappointed nor did the sides of veggies, rice & noodles. As usual I ended up full, fat & happy. As is the case with every hibachi joint, the cost is ridiculous...$50 per person, but I'd pay that every day to eat this food. Get over to Sake and get there now! read more

Amazing food from hibachi, fresh sushi, delicious drinks and affordable prices. This is what makes Sake Steak House one of my new faves. My fiance and I met up with a group of friends already at the hibachi table. We ordered scallops and filet mignon, MY GOD it was amazing. The fried rice and lo mein noodles that came with the meal was equally amazing. Our hibachi chef was really funny and gave us probably 3 rounds of sake. The salmon rolls and yellowtail rolls were fresh and nicely put together. A lot of sushi places lack the decoration on the platter... it matters. If you just slap a few pieces of fish on a plate I probably wouldn't eat it. We ordered 2 scorpian bowls, and MAN they were GOOD. We usually order the same stuff at other hibachi places, and Sake's prices are significantly lower than other places. With the amount of food they serve, this is pretty awesome! Came here for lunch on Monday with 3 adults, 2 kids, in the hibachi side of the restaurant. Open, clear dining room. When we were seated, we were told that there would be no lunch portions due to the MLK holiday. So, beware of this when coming for lunch on a weekday holiday. Wanted only lunch sized portions.... for lunch.... so we were disappointed in having no option but the dinner option. That being said, they did allow the kids to split an entree. The cooking by chef Jack was outstanding and he put on a great performance, paying particular attention to entertaining the kids. The food was to everyone's liking, particularly the noodles. I've been to Sake three or four times now and every time I've been it has been excellent. The most recent trip was this past weekend on 12/10. I have never sat in the "hibachi area" so I can't really comment on that, we always sit in the bar area at a booth when we go. It sounds fun though, with all the yelling and laughing coming from that side. Someday I'm sure when we have a party big enough we will sit over there. I always get a 24 oz Sapporo rice beer when I eat at Sake. For $7.50 it's basically like ordering two beers and almost always lasts the entire dinner. We always try a new appetizer when here. In the past we have ordered the sushi, which is good, but I'm not normally a big fan of sushi. This time we went with the Fried Calimari and Shrimp appetizer. This was OUT OF THIS WORLD. The batter was done perfectly and I believe it consisted of panko bread crumbs and coconut. The dipping sauce was a honey/chipotle type of thing and was excellent. The only down-side, was that I wanted more. The appetizer gets a 4.5 and would have easily been a perfect 5 if the portions were just a wee bit larger. The wife and i ALWAYS get the same thing every time we go for an entree ... the Sake for Two. It costs $48, which is a little expensive, but well worth it in our opinion. It comes with all the grilled meats... filet, chicken,shrimp, scallops, and lobster. It also comes with soup, salad, rice, noodles, and delicious vegetables. This meal is large but it's so good I can't stop eating it and I never come home with any leftovers. In fact, if I can get my hands on what my wife can't finish, I will usually eat that too. The Sake for Two easily gets a 4.5 from me. The only down side at Sake is the service. It has nothing to do with the friendliness of the staff, they have always been great. The problem I have is the speed at which they bring out the food. It feels a little rushed sometimes. The appetizer came out quickly, followed immediately by the soup and salad. The table was already cluttered enough with all the plates in front of us and we were still trying to finish, when all of a sudden, the entree's come out. At one point we had all courses in front of us, and it was hard to decide what to eat next. I guess it's better than waiting for an hour for food, but I like the meal to be paced a little better. The service gets a 3 and is the reason why I can't yet give Sake a 5. Average Overall Score: 4.0 I would RATHER eat at Sake than at Asia grill or Kyoto, both in Mansfield... ... and I can't think of a better japanese Steak House, so for right now there is none I would rather eat at instead. Hibachi. What can you say? Its more of a show than a flavor centered meal. That being said, they focus on the presentation and not the quality of the food they serve and everything off of the grill tasted pretty much the same. Salty, greasy....is that a flavor? Two stars for being edible and for not getting food poisoning. The hibachi chef was entertaining, however, our chop stick throwing rude waitress Kiki bailed on us for the evening - never to be seen again. The manager later said she left for New York. I really love this place. The sushi is very fresh. I've never had a single issue with anything I've ever ordered here. Their staff is always friendly and attentive! Just yesterday, I had their crab cakes as an appetizer and they were absolutely amazing, just typing about them now is making my mouth water! haha I regularly order the bento box, or a sushi combo and I am always happy every time I love love love this place! Ohhh Sake. How do I rate thee? First time coming here. Will update in the future. We got pickup, drove on down to this widdle gem. Couldnt find it when the GPS said we were there. Suddenly my body went stiff and I was unintentionally channeling the Asian spirits of a time when lore was fact, and dragons raped the skies. Cold sweat beaded on my brow and my eyes clouded over in a milky white. "Take a left...here. Into Mansfield Crossing." "Now take a right." My eyes snapped back into focus, and color. My spirit pulled back to earth like a hammer slamming down on an anvil. We were there. A group of Asians were waiting outside because they were closing. Grabbed our food inside, the chef was very accommodating about allowing us extra ginger. We had ordered 3 rolls and the chicken fried rice. The three rolls were good, but nothing to write home about. I've had cheaper sushi elsewhere that tasted fresher and better. But this could be due to them closing. The chicken friend rice though...It was 9 dollars, but was so good I fell back at the first bite and imagined myself on the Great Wall of China with Cirrus Clouds whipping by my face during twilight. I bought a huge order for Father's Day over $100.00. It included chicken and Pork, Kastu, salmon and a large assortment of sushi as well as chicken wings. The pork and chicken were truly inedible and you could not tell which was which. You could not even bite or chew into it It was like fried grizzle! Truly! The sushi was not at all fresh the people who had ordered it were afraid to eat it...they only ate the rice and salad. I was angry and embarrassed as I drove to Mansfield and then brought it to Quincy. Had I known it would have been that bad I would have gone to Fuji in Quincy but others had said they were good for take out. THEN the manager said I had to bring the food back to Mansfield for them to see it! Then they only refunded me $37.00! If you go be careful of what you order and taste it before you leave if it is take out. So very disappointed and angry at the food and the service. By the way when I called they said there was no manager inhouse but by the middle of the convesation there was one...When I went to the restaurant the manager would not even come out to talk to me. read more

It works out well on the Habachi side of the restaurant because u all sit at a big horse shoe shaped table facing the grill and Hitachi chef. It is easy to talk with all others at the table. Food is very good, good portions and reasonably priced. Plus u get the "the show"...the habachi chef puts on an entertaining performance that everyone will enjoy. I would recommend Sake. read more

I won't be returning here, ever. The service was less than mediocre with a waitress who seemed less than enthused about being there. My friend asked for a glass of water which never came to the table and when I asked for it again, had to remind her to provide a straw. I ordered beef Pai Thai and when it arrived, I did not like it and told the waitress as much. Leaving the plate on the table, she called out to someone and simply walked away. A man came over to the table and asked why I did not like my food and then proceeded to ask of he should box it up for me. Huh? Who takes home food they don't like. The food smelled and tasted like mop water! He told me he knows there is nothing wrong with the food and asked me if I was sure I wanted him to take it away. Unsurprisingly enough, that food still appeared on our bill. Not being in the mood to dispute, we simply paid and left. To add insult to injury, the waitress picked up our checks from the table before we were ready to leave and ended up taking my credit card with her. Will not be going back. The biggest issue was that my boyfriend ordered the chicken and scallop hibachi combo, and our hibachi chef, Andrew, forgot to give him chicken. He had miscounted and gave everyone else a portion of it. He clearly looked embarrassed and upset at his mistake. Now, this could have been simply fixed, but Andrew handled the situation very poor, and awkwardly told a random waiter to cook the chicken in the back kitchen. He was not very communicative with this request to the waiter, and the waiter brought the raw chicken back to the table. Andrew had already cleaned the grill, so he sent her back, and we heard no update or explanation of when my boyfriend would be receiving the other half of his meal. The worst part was we were charged for the chicken he didn't receive, and had to explain to another waiter that we never received it and the charge needed to be taken off. We were still waiting for this issue to be resolved while paying, but then noticed Andrew had simply moved onto another station to cook for more people. So, so, so displeased with the lack of customer service. Get your act together. If you don't fix an error on the restaurant's end, the customer is never going to come back, like me. read more

Finding myself fancying a swim, I ordered the Red Hawaiian scorpion bowl to "share" with the beau; served in a bowl large enough to serve as a fine home for any goldfish. The beverage was $14 and deeeeelicious. By 8pm we were seated in the LOUD hibachi room (there were at LEAST five birthdays in progress, and they clang the gong every.time.they.sing). We placed our orders for dinner and drink (round two: pina colada, DELISH but pretty weak). After a round of soup and salad (yummy ginger/peanut dressing), our hibachi "master" arrived. But, he wasn't really a master. Sure he "hup!" and "ho!"-ed and clanged his metal spatulas around in a mildly impressive manner, but he also: 1) flung a raw egg at a guest (it cracked open on his plate), 2) squirted sake at unwilling participants (and got it all over more than one person's shirt), 3) mixed up meat orders, and 4) over-sauced the vegetables. My veggie hibachi dinner included: soup, salad, a HEAP of rice and noodles, and uh, yeah...a few vegetables. But was the experience worth the $24 tag? - not really. The hibachi side was bumpin,' so we sat at on the other side and ordered off the menu We got the edamame to start, it was almost like it wasn't cooked all the way through. I got the vegetable spring rolls and the veggie gyoza as my second course, both of which were really good. I also got the age tofu, it was sub-par, I didn't really enjoy it, I ended up sending it back after one piece. Atomsphere was cute, the bar was pretty cool looking.
