Heard some good things about Sake Bomb, but after trying it for myself, this place is a hard pass for me. The food itself is "meh" at best, and the prices here are NOT cheap - for the amount they charge, you can get FAR better sushi elsewhere in the area. The sushi is comically inauthentic and clearly fusion creations by amateur sushi chefs. But the worst part is that it wasn't even good fusion sushi (at least to my palette.. if you're stoned or swallow your food without chewing then you might think it's amazing). We ordered the OMG roll which sounded great in the description, but tasted like a mushy roll of wet rice (I thought it tasted like mochi or something) coated in batter and fried in oil that must've been at least a week old - but at least the spicy mayo drizzle and sashimi bits thrown on top were decent. Next up, we got the Jalapeño Bomb. Delivered a pretty solid kick, since the inside of the roll is basically just jalapeño poppers - kinda hard to mess up or dislike. But the entire roll was tiny (must've been less than an inch wide) and tasted, again, as mushed together as it looked. It was just one big savory mushy bite with not much texture or contrasting flavors. Boring! Last, we had the Hamachi sashimi. It is what it is, just raw yellowtail. Not the worst quality but nowhere close to the best either. $12 for 4 tiny pieces. I was in disbelief at how much of a rip-off this was. I think I would rather pay $12 to inhale a single molecule of some rare mushroom that I've never heard of. The servers were friendly but our food took so long to come out that I signed up for life insurance while we were waiting, fearing that I might die of old age before our food arrives. The other parties sitting around us who arrived after us AND ordered after us AND ordered 5x the amount of food all received their orders before we did. Mildly annoying. To sum it all up, the food is pretty not-that-great and painfully overpriced. Make sure you tell your loved ones that you love them before coming to eat here, because waiting for your order might end up taking a lifetime or two. read more

Dear Sake Bomb Sushi, You were my lunch choice for 3 out of 7 days in one week. And you were an absolute delight. As always, let me share what I consider when reviewing a spot- 1. Deliciousness 2. Ambience and Service 3. Degree of Difficulty 4. Cost I will get the 'con' out of the way first. This food is not cheap. There is a lunch special, but I wanted to order some of the fancier rolls off the menu-and I did-therefore, they were pricier. The ambience is fine-the restaurant is clean and the tables are close but the ambience is fine. Our service on all 3 days was quick and helpful. I found the degree of difficulty to be quite high-the salad was served with a rich peanut dressing that elevated the salad and each roll was presented beautifully. I LOVED each roll. They are large servings, and each roll was crisp and delicious. I love a tempura roll, so the choices I made were very similar to one another but each delicious and out of this world. The crunch roll was light and flaky and a joy. The Golden Gate, the Incredible, and the avocado roll were excellent. Based on other reviews, sounds like going on a busy day (Friday or weekends) results in a noticeable staff shortage. For background, I went on a Monday for lunch, and it was still pretty busy. The waiters were occupied with both in-house customers as well as to-go orders. I didn't feel i had to wait extraordinarily long, but can imagine how hectic it'd get if only two people worked in a busy day. I ordered the Mango sweet and Spiderman roll. The mango sweet was underwhelming. Either the raw fish tasted really fishy or the mango and fish together wasnt a great combination, but I would not recommend this roll. I like the two ingredients separately, so thought it'd be fun to experiment with both on a roll. However, these two do not mesh well. It's tangy and fishy. The spiderman roll on the other hand was good, i'd recommend this roll if you're a fan of unagi. Also, price point is slightly high here. With tax, it comes out to about $20 a roll. read more

Ordered 3 items: spicy salmon, California roll ad crunch roll. Crunch roll was very good (4.2), CR was mediocre (2.5) and SS was also not really good. All three items were served in the same plate, maybe to avoid washing too many plates (?) but we didn't mind (party of two). The sushi was served without wasabi or ginger but when I asked so e was provided. It was nice that we were the only customers in the store which was great, I think most of the businesses for this place is through food delivery apps. After a year of not eating sushi, I was afraid that my taste buds wouldn't be able to discern acutely. I got the sake tempura roll (shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, topped with salmon and avocado and sweet eel sauce) $14 for 8 pieces and the jumbo spider (fried soft shell crab, avocado, cucumber topped with tobiko) $13 for 10 pieces. I was surprised I was able to finish all of it which meant that it wasn't bad tasting at all. However, I'll note that their sushi rice doesn't have much vinegar flavor and the fried soft shell crab was a tad oily. Otherwise it was an ok option for sushi. They do serve decently colored wasabi and yellow ginger (a plus for me). If you're in the Sunnyvale area and want some sushi rolls, this is an option. After you're done you can hit up Coldstone or Sunright Tea Studio in the same plaza for dessert. read more

My friends and I came here to dinner on a Saturday night. It was a little late for dinner (around 8pm) so we were seated right away after arriving. Food: Philadelphia Roll - Standard, but done well Specialty Roll - I don't remember the name of the roll, but it came with spicy tuna on the inside with salmon on top. It was also topped with jalapeños, unagi sauce, spicy mayo, and tempura flakes. I thought this roll was pretty good! I would order it again. My husband got the pork katsu curry, and he thought it was acceptable. Service: Our server was nice. They came by every so often to refill our water and to ask if everything was all right. Our food came out quickly as well. They were close to closing when we were finishing our food, but they didn't rush us at all. TL;DR - Good Japanese place with a good variety of food. Who doesn't like sake bombs? Sushi has to be my all-time favorite cuisine. We have our usuals in the area, and we hardly ever veer from them, but I wanted to try something new. It was also a few minutes from our place, so why not? Sake Bomb is the epitome of a Korean-Japanese fusion. Like most Korean-influenced sushi restaurants, Sake Bomb's rolls are paired nicely with sauces. They do a great balance of sushi and sauce as some places completely overpower the fish with the sauce. For drinks, they have a special large sake and large beer for a reasonable price. I can't quite remember how much, but it was worth it (maybe $13 or $14?). The service is pretty good. Most of the servers are attentive and friendly. Just in case you're thinking of ordering the jalapeño bomb, be sure to specify if you want the roll or appetizer. We wanted the appetizer, which is synonymous to a jalapeño popper with a bit more flair, but instead we got the roll. Our server was apologetic and corrected our order while letting us enjoy the roll. I thought that was a nice touch as some places will just waste it. My wife got the bento box combo (spicy pork and teriyaki beef). She loved it. Although she mentioned the pork being a little fatty, but the flavor was good! Not to mention that the portion sizes are huge! I went with the chirashi. The fish was plentiful and fresh. We also got a himachi roll which was also super yummy. Our only qualm, if it is one, the sauce on the Jalapeño bomb roll had a unique flavor. We were trying to figure out what it was, but couldn't quite place our finger on it. We ordered DoorDash once and they completely screwed up our order. I called down there and he was so on the ball to apologize. I have to say, I was impressed with all 6 rolls we ordered. I always wonder whether the rolls we order through takeout will actually look like the picture and indeed it did! Although a short drive home from Sake Bomb, the rolls all stayed intact and beautiful even when we unboxed the goodies! We ordered hamachi lover, orange blossom, superstar, incredibly, spider man, and lango star. We were particularly intrigued by the fried goodies on top of the rolls. While the batter was a bit thick and hard, it was still okay. I do have to mention that some of the salmon started browning a little into the dinner. My only qualm was placing the order because you can only order online during their hours, not ahead of time. Because I get off work at 5pm and that's exactly when they open, I had to stay late to account for the time of sushi assembly. They are quick, though. When I arrived, my order was all ready so they're efficient and know how to handle the dinnertime rush. Would never have known about this place until we got a 30% off special rolls coupon in a mailer. Came here on a Sunday night at 6pm, walking 1.2 miles in 25 minutes from our home near Las Palmas Park. Place is in the shopping center on El Camino Real between Marie Callendars and Safeway. Big neon sign with bright lights and multiple mirrors in a clean and elegant hole in the wall restaurant. Great ambiance, with extensive bar area. Greeted and shown a table as soon as we arrived. Only a few tables occupied, but the waitress showed us to a two person table, despite the fact that the other three couples were in four person tables. Two person tables a decent size about 30" square, with wife leaving me the seat facing three sports channel TVs- after 15 years of training, she knows where I want to sit! Menus come with pictures of all the dishes, so you can get an idea of what you are ordering, even if you aren't familiar with the dishes. We ordered the $19 flaming dragon roll, and the $18 super star roll. Service is good, with our dishes coming in 10 minutes. The Super Star roll comes with real crab, cucumber, avocado with tuna, salmon, deep fried scallops, with spicy sweet sauce, tobiko and green onion. Excellent presentation, with the dish arranged in the shape of an eight pointed star, with the scallops on top. Not a whole lot of crab, but it could be tasted despite the heavy presence of the hot and sweet sauce. And the dozen scallops, while small, were tasty and a good contrast to the sushi. The flaming dragon comes with shrimp tempura, crab, spicy tuna, with salmon, tobiko and green onions on the top. Eight bite size pieces, wrapped in aluminum foil, and then set afire to cook for a few minutes. The sauce on top was a bit too spicy, with even the wife peeling it off. Only problem with the sushi was that it was difficult to eat with chopsticks, without the entire thing falling apart after the first bite. Modern, spotlessly clean men's bathroom with single toilet and sink -no urinal. Could not convince the wife to take a picture of the women's bathrooms. A plus that there were not two unisex bathrooms, as I hate waiting in line for some woman on the toilet. After 30% discount, the bill was $28.23 after tax, but before tip. Two seniors, not the biggest of eaters, but no leftovers. Would not come again, without the discount. I was not at all filled, and considered stopping on the way home at Subway or McDonalds! I first found out about this place on Doordash a year ago. Their food hits different! I remember ordering from this place every other day the first two months. Yami Yam roll was pretty good and high in terms of taste compared to other places. Both Hamachi and Yam were my husband's. I got the Shrimp Tempura roll - taste was decent, price point was not bad but had a bit too much rice imo. Lastly, yes... you read that correctly, I really got shumai at a sushi restaurant and paid $7 for it LOL but my cravings kicked in when I saw it browsing the online menu so thought why not..... and let me also be the one to tell you - don't get it. I was honestly expecting frozen ones reheated which was ok imo due to me being desperate to get it for lunch and didn't want to drive elsewhere. However... something about this shumai was weird - I honestly can't tell what's at the base of it (I don't think it's pork? it's super pale - see pics for reference). Couldn't finish it. This place is fast and good for lunch. Fast service and good quality. Tea comes fast and was refilled promptly. We ordered : 1. Fried Scallops and real crab California rolls $18. Cannot tasted the real crab, they add a lot of sauce on it. Amount of scallops are good and fried nicely. 2. Bakes scallops on top of rolls. Very tasty. 3. Nebayaki udon comes with hot pot and they are great! Veggie udon on contray has very few vegetables and look more like left over noodle soup. It was very noisy when a group of people sit behind us. Hmm...not sure what to say, Sunnyvale is a small city and might not know what good sushi is? I hate to bring down a restaurant, but if you have traveled around the world and different cities, then you would know what good sushi quality entails. Also on a Monday during the lunch specials, if there's no one eating there, but you that is a possible red flag. The only ones that would eat here are the regulars like an old couple came in later to eat, so I am guessing they are just eating here out of habit or being close to their home in this shopping plaza. I should have just bought a Marie Calendars pie next door as my lunch instead. My two patrons with me order the reasonable price lunch bento which sounded like a good deal. Visually it looked great, but taste wise it was mediocre. It wasn't tender chicken or had much flavor. There was a lot of rice and taste wise it was not there. The tofu squares were ok my companion said. I decided to try something different to test if a restaurant is any good, so I decided on a sushi and roll combo that waitress recommended that was not too spicy. Again presentation was pretty. My order came with soup and hard to find little tofu chunks hidden on bottle of soup which I eventually found was ok. I enjoyed the salad that came with my meal. Taste wise for the main course failed. Not fresh salmon. The salmon didn't have that fresh, shiny glow to it and one bite into it just proved it. And soggy rice for a California roll or any roll in that manner is not a good restaurant. My companions and I had a very mediocre meal and will not be back. The sushi chef just kept standing behind counter staring as I was taking photos of the empty restaurant. It felt a bit awkward. There were a few takeouts, so some people apparently find something they liked here. For sure I would never come back, I am sure their are much better places for Sushi out here, maybe Mountain View? For sure San Mateo is better. If you compared this neighborhood restaurant with the one in San Francisco Sunset on Noriega street, now that place scores much higher in both friendly customer service and food quality. We arrived around 12:15pm and were quickly seated. The menu is pretty extensive with lots of yummy options. I decided on a lunch portion bento box (still huge!) with teriyaki chicken and a California roll. My co-workers ordered sushi rolls, and everything looked good. I ordered the Crazy Fire Roll, but swapped unagi for salmon. No unagi. There was a strong spice to it. The spicy crab felt moist, smooth, and fresh. Really good spicy crab. There was a unique and interesting flavor overall. I think it was from the sweet sauce. Not my favorite in particular. There was an overall sweet-spicy flavor to the roll. The salmon was good. Was not the best roll in the world, but enjoyable. I also got the Jalapeño Bomb Roll. This had a spicy smokey flavor, but kind of like burnt smokey. It had a stronger flavor, but not funky. If you're deciding on which rolls to get, you won't be disappointed with the top three (maybe skip the dynamite roll if you don't like deep fried, also it DOES have a rather spicy kick to it). The gyoza and sauce were particularly tasty, however the edamame lacked salt so I added some. Overall, calling in my order for pickup was a breeze, Sake Bomb Sushi is also taking ample precaution for the covid-19 pandemic. Only one person is allowed inside at once. Definitely come here. We really enjoyed everything - including the following: Miso soup - a mildly salty savory broth with seaweed. Served at the start of the meal. Crunchy salad - also served as an appetizer with a fantastic mildly sweet and creamy dressing. Really delicious. Sashimi - assorted platter of chefs choice of fresh fish sashimi. Included salmon and a few others. For someone who was trying it for the first time, I really enjoyed it with the wasabi, soya sauce and ginger. We came here because it is open late we showed up around 10pm. After we sat down the waiter was very hurried when we put in an order and was not helpful at all. My daughter asked for gyoza which is a very common appetizer at Japanese restaurants. He said they didn't have them. Then after we ordered we saw "pork dumplings" (gyoza). They only had 4 rolls on the menu all basically deep fried. My wife ordered what they called salmon carpaccio. It came out as 5 very large very thick pieces of salmon almost the size of a playing card and as thick as my pinky finger. No sauce on it at all. That is a lot of raw fish to try to bite into. Friday was hot and while we originally planned on getting ramen, we decided against it and instead went for sushi! Sake Bomb is in the same shopping center as Safeway, Cold Stone, and Marie Callender's making it extremely convenient in terms of locations go as it is right off El Camino. We placed our order online and it quoted us about 50 mins. Not too bad at all and pick up for to go was quite easy. Everything was so fresh and beautiful... it was quite stunning. We tried the crazy fire (hot), the fire fighter, shrimp tempura roll, spicy salmon roll, edamame, and seaweed salad. We enjoy spicy foods and the crazy fire was great! This is one of my go-to spots for sushi (dare I say, the best in Sunnyvale). The rolls are pretty fresh and flavorful. The only critique is that sometimes the rolls are made with A LOT of rice. The restaurant is located inside a plaza with a huge parking lot so finding a spot is never an issue. During COVID19, I have been ordering online for pickup. - Spiderman: this is my favorite roll! It is an enhanced version of a basic spider roll. I came in at 8:05, and ordered Nigori sake. The server opened the bottle (I was alone) and threw the lid away. Most of what I wanted they were out of, and when I asked about the Chef's Special I was told "It's really spicy." Really wasn't impressed, and I need to keep looking for my sushi spot. Great hidden gem. The service was good and their menu is extensive. I did read reviews before I came here and many liked their rolls. I'm not much of a roll person. I love Sashimi and was excited when ai saw they offered Chirashi, sashimi over rice. The fish pieces were thick and so fresh. I was very full and happy. Reasonable price and pretty delicious. We've been getting this spot for lunch. It's a great price for what you get. Some rolls are better than others. Depends on what you get. I'm obsessed with this place.This is the best Japanese restaurant in South Bay for sure. Service is A+, staff is very friendly, and food quality is A++ I also really like that they have a great ambiance and interior design, unlike some places which just have tables and little to no decorations. We don't usually go to random sushi joints since they're just rolls and bento boxes (we prefer omakase & more authentic Japanese restaurants if possible) but sometimes it'll do when you have a toddler in tow. We ordered a couple of items on the menu to try and actually managed to get our toddler to eat some of the food (hallelujah!) - nothing too fancy but can't complain much since it's what to be expected. Service was good & this place just happened to be next door to Cold Stone so we got a nice dessert afterwards also! read more

Really Dissapointing. We definitely won't be returning. They sat us in the area by the cash register. The entire time we were swatting flies. I killed about 10 flies in the 30 minutes we were there. We didn't even finish our food, having all the flies around grossed me out. My stomach started feeling weird so we decided to call it quits We left two out of the four rolls untouched. When we went to pay I let the girl at the register know and I brought her the napkin full of dead flies, I told it that it wasn't okay, we were sat in the area where there were nonstop flies. All she said was okay, and proceeded to give me my $72 bill. A sincere apology would have been great. read more

Sushi was ok, and served fast, but it felt like all the fish we were getting was from the bottom/end of the fish, I could also see the salmon's silver skin in my sushi, which was kinda not too tasty... and didn't make me wanna eat it, as it didn't look appealing. All in all 3/5, but if you wanna have smth fast- best spot to go, if you find anything else better(and bigger/richer in taste) for 15$ price I strongly advice to go to that another place read more

Easy online ordering. They send you a confirmation email and let you know what time to pick up. Your pay when you pick up your food. Plenty of parking. We ordered two rolls - Dragon and Crunch Salmon. We also ordered sashimi - salmon and hamachi. Nicely packaged. They also gave an extra piece of salmon sashimi which we appreciated. Pretty tasty and enjoyable. Rolls were good sized. I personally liked the dragon more than the crunch salmon. Would come again. read more
