Randomly ended up here for dinner. They happen to speak Cantonese. It is so hard to find good Cantonese food down in the Southbay. I got the shrimp/egg over rice with lettuce. My husband got a ramen. High chair for a toddler along with a water with a straw with a plastic bowl with utensils. Child friendly. And I love meeting other Cantonese people down here. Food is homey. The portion sizes are quite big but mostly because it is meant for family style eating where you share dishes. Maybe I should've came here for ramen, but their curry chicken katsu and their salt and pepper calamari aren't it. Katsu could've been fried longer, and their calamari was mushy and hardly crunchy. Their steam rice comes with soup. The soup doesn't have msg which is pretty good! If soup has msg that will only make you feel more thirsty. The combo comes with the steamed or stir-fried protein over delicious steamed rice, stir-fried cabbage, and soup of the day (we have been getting spare rib/chicken with pickled veggies soup lately). Let me preface this review by saying I live close by and have eaten here before a few times before writing this review. Now the star rating is for the food and service, but if I must be honest, I may be biased since it is the setting of my breakup dinner. I was emotional eating, so I ordered gyoza and chicken wings appetizer in addition to Char Sui Ramen. He had the seafood ramen. Wings were hot temperature wise and crispy...I inhaled them all myself. Then I went to town on the homemade gyozas. By the time I started on the ramen, I was almost full. The broth was full bodied and flavorful, with generous slices of char sui. So I saved half of the ramen for take away. Well, I'll spare you all the details of a moderately tame breakup. We went back and forth on the blaming each other for who hurt who and I was so done with that. There is no point to dig up the past when you already decided you don't want to be in the relationship. I had to accept that we are not a good fit and pick up the pieces and move on. So, yup. Not sure if I will come back here anytime soon as it will conjure up memories of the moment. And it is not that special of a place that I could get over it. 3/5 stars is about right. read more

The Chef's Soecial Ramen includes two thick pieces of cha shu, three fish balls, a half hard boiled egg, and veggies. I'm used to medium boiled eggs in the souse-vide style so this hard boiled one was very dry. Broth was good but on the plain side. Medium think noodles. The braised beef ramen was also good. Nice tender meat and sweet/slightly spicy broth. Thick noodles. Chicken karage was good but the slightly sour dipping sauce not to my liking. Gyoza also good. I'd come here again if in the area. I ordered the Chefs Special Ramen and a side of Chicken Katsu . I was brought a Kettle of Green Tea it was nice and hot. My food was Brought out to me 10 minutes Later . The portions are on the Generous side . The Broth was nice and Savory. It was a Flavor and Ingrediant packed Ramen. The Chicken Katsu was nice and Crisp with a nice Katsu sauce . This location is on the corner of Sandia and Lawrence Expressway in Sunnyvale. It's been a long standing shopping center with a mix of different cuisines. Back in the day, we'd come to this center for cart rolling dim sum lunches. This restaurant is a small, clean, restaurant w/ colorful pictures of dishes plastered on both sides of restaurant. Dishes ordered were garlic green beans, tendon ramen and chefs special ramen. Green beans were very yummy as garlic was evident but not overwhelming, the tendon ramen was a bit salty and had a more Chinese spiced broth, can't pinpoint it, but maybe star anise (but not sure) No beef tendon in the broth, it seemed like beef brisket like pho. As for the chefs special ramen, it had many pork pieces, fishballs, fish cakes plus vegetables. Broth was different than tendon broth but still had a typical Chinese profile. It was salty that at the end of last weeks heat wave, we were puffy and swollen. This was part of my ramen experiment. I tried 4 different ramen joints and this ranked #4. Rating - 3.5 Stars They really need to change that "Grand Opening" sign of theirs because I hardly think having been open for nearly two months now counts as a "Grand Opening". But that's besides the point. I must say that for a proclaimed ramen place, their ramen sure is subpar and lackluster. I recommend that you try their fried rice instead because I find it to be much more delicious and flavorful than their ramen. In fact, they should probably change their name from Japanese Ramen to Chinese Fried Rice. I'm pretty sure this place is run by Chinese people too, so that makes it even more fitting. I also recommend that you try their chicken katsu. The breading-to-chicken ratio is perfect, the crispiness is just right, and the chicken is quite tender. Speaking of chicken katsu, although the picture of their "Chicken Katsu Ramen" shows the chicken katsu inside the ramen bowl, it is actually served on a side dish. After all, it'd be quite disappointing if instead of having a little crunch, it had a little squish instead.. As for the other items on their menu, I only tried their yakisoba. The sauce was a bit overpowering, but I guess it was okay. Oh yeah, it's also worth mentioning that the portions they serve you are ridiculous! Well, for the fried rice and yakisoba anyways. It's more than enough for one person, or almost enough for two. Their ramen on the other hand, is just barely enough for one person (unless you drink the soup). Great deal at $11.99. Most places can't charge this price because of the rising rent which reflect the real estate prices. Japanese style oyako don healtier than commercial versions. Not as salty. Ramen: Broth is mixture of pork+chicken. Not as fatty as Orenchi. Large amount of bean sprouts and twice cooked napa cabbage. Would never see Napa Cabbage or Bean Sprouts in a Japanese ramen bowl in the ramen only place.. they don't use fresh vegetables, almost everything salty and preserved in a traditional Japanese ramen. Healthier here. Not like some restaurants where they dump in raw cabbage and let the soup cook the cabbage. Brings out the sweet flavor of the napa cabbage into the broth. Couldn't finish, large portion. $9.95. Repeat customer. Seafood ramen contains Squid+shrimp. Healthy. Big portion of Ramen. Not super salty. Highly recommend. Excellent value. Portion size is like 1.5 Ramen servings compared to other places. Yakisoba: home style chow mein style. Very large portion sizes. Good for takeout.
