Sakura was recommended by a fellow business traveler at the Holiday Inn. When I looked them up on yelp and found stellar reviews, I knew I had a winner. Restaurant is located in a sprawling strip mall. The sushi bar is large, with at least ten seats. Three sushi chefs were kept busy the Thursday night I was there. The sushi menu is extensive, with the basic rolls and sushi/sashimi (both come two per order, with an average price around $5), but most of the menu is 'special rolls'. Dozens and dozens of special rolls. They would benefit from a picture menu (hint!). I went with the scallop sushi and Twin Brother roll. The scallops were very fresh, sweet and smooth. The TB roll was spicy fried crawfish and cucumber inside with shrimp, sliced avocado and fish eggs on top. They also drizzled on eel sauce - I would have preferred a spicier sauce, but the roll was still tasty. $13 for 8 large pieces (slightly larger than Cali roll, for comparison). After watching my sushi chef (the one in front of me, who made my first rolls and sent out a little bowl of shredded krab and octopus - love that!!) make a roll wrapped in camo-colored soybean paper with a large crustacean tail sticking out, I had to ask what it was. Cowboy Maki. After checking the menu - tempura lobster tail (!) with cucumber, spicy sauce and fish eggs for $9 - yep, sign me up! While not the largest lobster tail ever, it was definitely more substantial than a shrimp. Not as spicy as I would have liked (roll did not come with a sauce on it), but the overall flavor was still outstanding. Similar size to the TB roll, but only 6 pieces. My waitress was busy (she got seated with some needy family tables), but others checked in on me too, with everyone keeping my water filled, and answering any questions I had about the sushi they took to their tables. One of my favorite places to eat. Small, but awesome location and great service. They literally have the best spicy mayo sauce for their sushi, which is honestly why it's one of my favorites. Yes, it's that good. Anything I've ever ordered, has been delicious. They are very consistent and their menu is large! I love their sushi deals, which are on Monday and Wednesday and then they also have weekend specials, like 10% off lunch in Saturday's. Definitely make sure you check out this place. read more

One of the few things I miss about Ohio. This is still my favorite sushi spot, by far. I went here with my buddy and we split 4 rolls; Jalapeño Yummy, Spicy Cavalier, Golden Buckeye and Empire Roll. Although the Golden Buckeye was the best of the bunch, all 4 rolls were delicious and beautiful. Unlike other sushi places, they do an amazing job of blending fruit and seafood in a way where they really compliment and accentuate each other. I honestly have nothing negative to say about this place.. great sushi and great service. I look forward to my next trip back to Ohio to try more unique rolls. read more

My family n I've gone here several times, but with the rise in cost of pretty much everything, kinda too expensive n NOT worth it for me. PROs: Facilities clean, but a lil too cramped for me. I ordered Sakura on uber eats a couple times. It's good but nothing special in my humble opinion. The rolls werent bad but a little slimy & the options all felt like they were essentially the same. One of those places I would love to give more stars. The food is fantastic but there are a few misses. The good: The sushi boat option is a really good choice if you aren't sure what you want and you are hungry (or splitting with friends). Also, there are lots of different maki, at different price points to fill your desires. The tempura is a good cooked option. The bento boxes are also a good choice if you aren't feeling sushi alone. The bad: The service is a bit meh. While the staff is nice, the place seems like the waiters are always overwhelmed possibly? It always seems like you have to wait longer than you should for anything related to interacting with them, even for something as simple as getting a refill on water. Also, their appetizer the Jalapeños Puff sounds good ends up being a real miss in my book. When they fry the Jalapenos it end up cooking the spicy tuna inside and it just doesn't work. I will most definitely end up going back as it has some of the best quality maki by far in the area. They just have some kinks they need to work on. read more

Although these three points are very important considerations when choosing a place to dine these are somewhat expected and I came here expecting a little more especially when the main course is going to be sushi. While enjoying a cold imported beer while looking over the menu I was having difficulty deciding on one particular item because nothing here really stood out and that was a little disappointing. Since the weather out was a little chilly and rainy I decided to start off with a hot cup of wonton soup I figured this was a great way to shake off the chill. My server Kelsey was very friendly and attentive I informed her upfront that I was going to try a few dishes and I wanted to keep the menu and order one or two items at a time so most of my choices were either starters or from the appetizer selections and she was fine with that, she provided excellent service throughout my entire visit allowing plenty of time between courses. Now to me wonton soup is a pretty simple dish usually consist of pre-prepared wontons in a broth with a few scallions thrown in served hot. Although the broth was flavorful it was served barely luke warm and the wontons were just okay I ate about half and decided to move on to something more appealing and was hoping this wasn't going to be an example of how the evening was going to be, at this point I was somewhat disappointed. My second choice was the spicy tuna roll the portion was small the quality was poor in my opinion it was a blend of tuna and jalapeño stuffed in rice I was expecting so much more the description wasn't close to what I was served. It wasn't a fresh piece of tuna but rather a mush, after my first taste I think I actually said yuck out loud. My next course was the shrimp asparagus which consisted of four very small shrimp speared with a thin stalk of asparagus nothing I would order again, still hungry I decided on a soft shell crab it was underwhelming to say the least and very small I guess I was expecting a large spider like Crustacean fried in tempura batter nope it was sautéed I think and four small bites it didn't seem to be fresh and was very chewy. If you're not looking for great this place may be okay but it's just not my thing or what I was expecting from this place after reading the reviews. I wish I had found a much more expensive place to eat what I want which was sushi. I don't see myself returning. read more

I will try to keep emotion out of my review and stick to facts as much as possible. I'm new to the Akron area so I looked Sakura up by searching for Akron Sushi. Their website seemed nice and the menu online stated this entree(love boat for 4) was $100. $25 per person for sushi seemed more than fair. I called this restaurant to place an order for a love boat for 4 for my family and I. What I recall of the conversation is that I placed my order, provided my name and phone number and received an estimated time for pickup. I received a quoted time of 25 minutes and I informed the associate that I would be picking up in 1 hour to which I received a reply of "awesome". I do not recall the price I was quoted over the phone but I do remember being quoted a price and said thank you. When I arrived for pickup I was greeted by two younger women-I believe between 17-21 years old. I provided my name and they asked if I was there to pickup the love boat to which I replied yes. They provided me a total of $109.95 to which I asked was there a surcharge. I was told that is the price. I stated that I saw the menu online an hour ago and it stated $100. The associate stated "it's only $10". I asked if there was anything they could do to assist with the pricing and the associate that made the $10 comment stormed off frustrated and stated she was getting a manager. The manager came out and introduced herself. She stated that she was sorry about the confusion but the price was $109.95 and she quoted me that over the phone. Again-I don't recall the amount I was quoted. I repeated that the price that was advertised on the website was $100 and that is the price that I wanted to pay. The manager drew a line in the sand and stated that she knew she quoted me the correct price and she couldn't do anything for me. To that I replied that I would be forced to leave the order if I didn't receive the price advertised. The manager then began to go into a tailspin and stated that I couldn't just leave a $100 order and walk out on it. I told her that she should honor the advertised price and that I felt she was being very rude-as did her staff. She the. Told me that the website was not updated and then began blaming things on the previous manager. She told me again that she was new and this wasn't her fault. I told her that I would still pay for the order of she could adjust it to $100. The manager stated that it was only a $10 difference to which I replied that there were many associates in her restaurant that would love an extra $10. She then began sobbing. I apologized to her and stated that I felt it was a business' obligation to honor their advertised price. She went back to get the food and came back. Something happened in the back because when she came back she went over all of the selections with me. She apologized for her behavior and the behavior of her staff and them took $20 off of the price. She then asked if I was going to write a review on Yelp that I give an honest review of the food and not let the service effect the food quality. After writing all of the above I'm positive that all of the service industry workers hate my guts. I have to say that the sushi was EXCELLENT. I've been eating at Sakura Lakewood, Shinto Strongsville and Mizu Parma and this sushi is the best I've had out of the 3 and it was take out. Even at $110 I still feel this would have been a good value but I believe if there is an advertised price a business should honor that price and not argue with their customer. I'm very happy that this restaurant not only honored their website pricing but beat it. We will be returning to this restaurant in the future. read more

Their maki (rolls) are very creative including: - spicy craw fish roll - yellow tail & jalapeno rolls - lobster tail tempura with spicy sauce roll - spicy salmon roll with thin-sliced lime - soft shell crab roll Their basic items, like, California roll, regular nigiri and sashimi are good,too. Chirashi (assorted raw fish over a bowl of sushi rice) with free soup and salad is also a good deal. They always have special deals ($1 sushi and 1/2 priced sushi) that rotate every week. Smelled very fishy when entering on a busy Saturday night. Never a good sign. Staff was super nice. Location is a strip mall and added nothing. The sushi? Average. They dump sauce on it so slightly below at times. Overall we find the reviews here overstated. We wouldn't avoid this place but never would we seek it out. My wife and I both feel that our local place (House Gourmet) is better and cheaper. Cilantro is better and has a vibe but more expensive. Golden Dragon in the falls has it all: good price, food, and setting. In short: don't make a special trip based on the reviews here. read more

Great sushi in Akron OH?? You bet. Definitely worthy of 5-Stars. You wouldn't know it from the location, which is in a mini-strip mall, and rather hidden if you don't know what you are looking for. The inside is fairly small, but it is nice and clean. The staff is very friendly, and very attentive. And the food.... Terrific. I went with 4 business colleagues, and we had a 'group share' of our rolls and food, which was very fun, and gave me a great sense of their many offerings. My favorites were: Happy Family roll, Spider Dragon, Red Dragon, and Green Dragon. I would subtract 1/2 a Star for location, but definitely 5 stars for the food and very reasonable prices. I love this place!!!! The service is very nice. The servers are attentive and sweet, but not trying to be part of your meal. They are very very good about refilling drinks. I drink tons of tea when I eat sushi, and my cup is never below half full when I am there. The prices are great and the sushi is delicious! We eat mostly vegetarian and shrimp rolls and they've all been amazing. The eel and octopus is great too! We had a fermented soybean one that left something to be desired, but it was expected. It just tasted fermented, which we should have known we were not going to like. Great place for groups, couples, singles, and families. Casual if you want to be OR you could dress up and still feel comfortable. Once again, I LOVE IT! read more

Average at best. We are in town for business for a week so we got a chance to try different restaurant here and there. We went in at almost 1 pm on Tuesday. The place wasnt that crowded so the service was decent .. no problem there. We started the meal off with the spicy salad. Let me tell you. The word 'spicy' should just be removed permanently. The salad was primarily shreded imitation crab meat with a bit of shrimp and squid. It tasted a bit sweet with a nice smell of sesame oil, but the problem is the spicy part. We didnt taste even a tiny little bit of the spiceness in the salad. The other starter was calamari. It was nicely fried .. very crispy, but didnt seem like it was freshly made in house. It gave me a feeling that they just used the frozen ones. Then we ordered 3 rolls - pink lady, spider, some spicy roll that i do not remember the name anymore. The pros :- all the rolls were huge portion so pretty good value for the money. The cons :- - The rice was pretty heavily packed to the border of way too much. - The freshness and the flavors werent quite there yet. - The raw fish in that spicy roll wasnt that fresh. I couldnt reallt taste the salmon. It was all like a pile of mush on top of rice to me. - The flavor combination of the pink lady was just average .. really nothing spetacular. By far the best sushi in Ohio. Period. Sushi is my favorite food so I am thus extremely picky, but I've never had a single bad experience at Sakura. The sushi is always extremely fresh and they have a much larger selection than any other sushi restaurant in the area. I personally cannot get enough of the Valentine and Angel rolls. I think Sakura is my favorite place to get sushi and Japanese cuisine in the Akron area. Located in a strip-mall at the intersection of Cleveland-Massillon Road and Route 18 (Market Street), it's easy to miss if you are not looking for it. The staff has always warmly greeted me, and typically there's not much of a wait for a table. If you feel adventurous, you can sit at the bar and watch your chef prepare sushi in front of you. We usually get a few appetizers to get started; I'd recommend the Pork Gyoza and the Edamame. Sushi is freshly prepared and delicious! It ranges from standard fare, like an eel roll or a California roll, to creative options such as the Tina Roll (which is made with cooked beef filet). The wait staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and can help guide your choices. Unlike other Asian restaurants, which always seem to default to 'Chinese food', Sakura avoids that and has genuine Japanese options. In other words, you're not going to find General Tso's chicken here. What you will find are things like katsudon and udon noodles. Overall, this is a great place and it's a solid choice. Love Sakura for it's location. I work in Fairlawn, so having a place that is close by really helps out. Of course, there are three other sushi places that are also in the area: House of Hunan, Sushi Katsu, and BigEye. However, Sakura generally wins out for their speed and spicy salad. Probably not the most traditional or 'authentic' (seriously, do people still judge places by authenticity in America?), but the food is pretty darn good.
