This is my nth time eating at Sakura Teppanyaki, and I continue to be impressed with the food they serve. This time, I ordered the teriyaki chicken and scallops with a side of bacon fried rice. The salad had an amazing vinegary flavor with a nice kick that really stood out. The chicken was tender and chewy in a good way, the vegetables were perfectly cooked, and the scallops had the right texture and were cooked just right. The bacon fried rice added a rich and savory flavor that complemented the meal well. Overall, another satisfying experience, and I'll definitely be coming back again. read more

Hostess staff are polite and congenial. The teppan servers do the absolute bare minimum, but they may have a lot of tables. The teppan chef we had last was Ruben. All his food was pretty good. The drinks were awful. My husband asked for a Vodka soda and was given a vodka tonic. At first we thought maybe the server heard wrong, but since the server wasn't around at all we walked it over to the bar ourselves and asked the bartender to remake it since the bar was completely empty (I mean not one soul) at 7:45 on a Saturday night. The second drink the bartender gave us was a vodka sprite. Maybe we should have specified soda means seltzer. Dinner bill for 3 adults and 2 kids was $250 plus tips. The food was decent but the service was underwhelming and subpar for spending that type of cash. Especially since the server seemed like anything we asked her was asking her to go out of her way. Absolute terrible service and food was not that good. My friend made a reservation for 20 people at 6:00. The staff at the front told him that his entire party needs to be on time because the chef does not want to wait. We rushed and came on time, but then had to stand and wait in the lobby because there was no room. We waited until 6:20 to be seated, which was weird since we had a reservation and they emphasized that everyone needs to be on time. When we got seated for teppanyaki, the waitress sat down a random couple at our table, even though we did not even have enough seats for everyone in our party. My friend tried telling the waitress multiple times that not all of us have seats and she kept counting the seats incorrectly. We had to repeatedly explain to her that there is 20 of us and then she eventually understood. She then asked the random couple to move to the other table (which had not been served yet either and literally had plenty of open seats). I'm not sure why she didn't just move them to that table in the first place, it makes no sense. They also messed up on a lot of things and had zero coordination. The chef took a while to come out as well and they told us he'd come soon and he didn't. Some things that they messed up on: -forgot to bring a guest a fork until after the entire teppanyaki dinner was served to everyone (so he couldn't eat as his food came out even though he requested it 30 mins prior) -WE had to move extra chairs to the table bc some ppl still didn't have seats, even though the staff should have done it for us prior since we made a reservation -they never brought my friend's drink that she ordered -they didn't bring my friend's salad that she paid for -they forgot my friends extra rice -they gave me bacon in my rice when I specifically asked for no bacon -they forgot to give my friend extra bacon that he asked for -I asked them to clean the teppanyaki grill before they cook my shrimp (since I can't have other types of meat) and the chef looked like he didn't know what I was talking abt and responded with "I'll just do seafood last" and then turned away from me without even listening to anything I was saying -barely grilled the shrimp , it had no flavor and did not seem cooked -chef didnt even confirm our orders. He just looked at me, said "shrimp," and moved on when I tried to tell him abt my allergies -the chef did not even try to interact with us much. My friend is a huge Disney fan and asked if the chef could make a Mickey Mouse design w the rice and he just ignored his request completely. The chef just quietly talked to himself it seemed like and he didn't really try to make it fun -messed up dessert. They only gave half our table ice cream and then ignored the other half completely. They already charged us all for dessert and even swiped all the cards already. The waitress just quickly said "good night!" and left without asking if we needed anything else. I got up and found another waiter outside and told him I was charged for dessert and never got any. Then he said he will go get it. He never came and got it. I saw him helping another table and we made eye contact and I kinda held up my receipt to gesture it, and then he left. then our waitress from before came back and said "I heard you guys needed me?" (So there was NO actual communication between the two servers then), so I told her that we didn't get dessert yet. And then later we finally got it. NO apologies. We had waited over THIRTY minutes to get vanilla ice cream. The other table with us left completely and it was only the few of us left inside that were waiting so it was really inconvenient that we had to stay back so long and wait there for it. It was for a celebration for my friend's graduation and the whole time he was stressed out bc of everything. I normally love going to Sakura Chaya, which made this last visit especially disappointing. Unfortunately, the food this time was overwhelmingly saturated with butter...to the point where that was the only flavor coming through. I couldn't taste the usual garlic, ginger, soy, or teriyaki notes that typically make their dishes so good. Everything on the plate tasted the same, just heavy and greasy. When I took my leftovers home, there was literally a pool of hardened butter sitting at the bottom of the container the next day. It made the food really hard to enjoy and impossible to "fix" later. The ambience and atmosphere is always cozy and inviting service was OK. There were times I felt like we were waiting on our server instead of them waiting on us. I'm hoping this was just an off night because I've had much better experiences here before, but this visit definitely missed the mark. read more

But here is why I'm only giving 3 stars.. we got there and we walked up to the hostess and let her know we had put our name down over the phone, with the rudest attitude and stankiest stank face she told us they would call us shortly. The staff said we can possibly seat you with people who reserved a table at 7pm.. so we were seated at 7:15pm.. one server was really good, and then there was another server who seemed to have an attitude (please if you don't like your job, quit, because other people can tell), her facial expressions spoke Our cook did not start cooking until 7:45pm.. the table got drinks in a timely manner, but soup was way salty and came when the cook came, salad was not fresh and was warm.. We were charged for extra items. When we did not ask for them. Overall the service was not great, with the exception of one orange-ish hair girl. Ima just say I know our cook was not a seasoned cook cause we asked for medium rare steak and got well done steak, my rice tasted burned, the quality of the food was just not made with love and experience.. The bathrooms were soooo nasty.. we will not be returning here. This place has not received an award since 2012 anyway.. it was too many times I was looking for a server, or reminding about a sauce or a refill.. just bad.. The restaurant was sooooo packed, so I do understand everyone needs service.. but it was no exception for bad service and poor food. I like coming here for Japanese food besides sushi and teppanaki. Although they have both of those things, they also have other dishes like yakisakami, a dish of seafood or meat covered in slightly spicy mayonnaise type sauce over potato salad, and shogi aki, meat and veggies in a ginger sauce on a skillet. There was a little too much ginger in this dish for my taste . The people are all nice but the service is a little bit slow. That seems to happen a lot. I was here to celebrate a friend of mine's birthday. We had reservations and we were able to sit in the back of the restaurant in our own private room. The Ambiance of the space was nice and fairly quiet as we had a late afternoon reservation. I felt the service started a bit slow even though we had a party of 25. After we were seated they didn't come to take our order for about 40 minutes and then food started to slowly come out. I was able to order my meal and an appetizer. The appetizers came out very slowly. In fact, one of my friends didn't even get her appetizer and the server wanted to ask after she'd given her the check if she still wanted it. Sat down for our Mother's Day reservation at 730. Our chef did not arrive until 8:30, a whole hour after we sat down. Our waitress, Gabby Z, showed up an hour after we sat down alongside the chef to finally give us a refill. Not only did we not receive another refill, but by 930 we were begging to see a manager JUST to pay. No one was managing the front desk and no one seemed interested in helping our entire table sitting there and all we wanted to do was pay for the crappy service. A manager came and spoke with us and offered ZERO help. He said "you guys just want to get out of here huh" which YES we do but nothing else to make things right. We ordered the dinner plate and did not get our dessert that we paid for. Absolutely disgusting service and inadequate management. This place looks nice on the inside i was really excited to try it out. The guy behind the sushi counter with the Bass Pro Shop hat on did a good job cutting the sashimi and making the nigiri. Maybe I got a new waitress, maybe I got somebody on their last day at work, but when someone doesn't know the answer to "how many pieces of fish are on the sashimi platter?" I get kinda put off. Me and my boo thang are hitting up all the sushi spots in town! For every date night we get we pick another sushi place and last week it was Sakura Chaya. You know sushi is only made for lunch and dinner with a break in between. We were coming in right at dinner time (5:00) and there was already a crowd. A big party came in ahead of us that had reserved the party room. Growing up I just loved seeing and staring into the fish aquariums at Asian restaurants. When I walked in and saw one here I was taken back to those times. So I love the aquarium and all the pretty fish inside. The man at the counter who greeted us promptly took down our party name in the middle of him also answering the phone and passing out menus. He must be the manager and a hard working one at that! We got seated right next to the sushi bar. We were able to watch the game from there and kinda hear the banter of the sushi chefs. Haha! good to know they all get along. Our server had a smile on her face and gave us plenty of time to look at the menu. She answered all of our questions and kindly took our order. Everyone here seems to have a good attitude and that makes me feel welcomed as a customer. Our table was clean as was the rest of the place. Customers kept coming so I knew we picked a good place. Our appetizers came out promptly looking so delicious. I got the chicken wings and they were crunchy and juicy. They had a sweet and umami flavor. Something like honey soy, I'm not sure. The miso was hot and salty! Yumm! The dressing on the house salad was a nice sweet ginger base but the lettuce seemed to be washed or was sitting in water and the dressing was watered down because of it so that was a hindrance to the flavor. Today we had a department luncheon. For 22 people. Made reservations several weeks in advance. Upon arriving we were received by a rude hostess and then a manager. Bad attitude and poor customer service. The hostess and manager raised their voices. We were advised that all parties had to be present in order to seat, even though I had received approval in advance to be pre-seated. It was a holiday party. The restaurant was not full at all. The back room reserved was not filled. We did not know why we were being treated so poorly and disrespectful in front of our peers. read more
