I love it! As a person who's often very indecisive about which rolls to get or what to try, this is great. You don't have to commit to a whole roll but instead by piece. Also it's right in front of you, so you can definitely see what you're choosing. I got a bit of everything just to try. Everything was delicious. Even with the rolls being coldish. To my surprise, my favorite was the gochujang beef tofu skin thing. It was so good and flavorful. My next favorite was the lobster one. I do believe they change the menu every week. I hope they keep those two. My least favorites had to be the musubis the katsu one was good but it definitely needs sauce. The chicken was on the drier side but decent. The spam/beef musubi was again, good but I felt like the flavor of the beef and spam were fighting each other. It didn't really compliment one another. Overall I loved the experience, the food was delicious. I'd definitely come back again--even if it's out of my way.

I really wanted to like this place. I really did. First off, the restaurant itself looks great. It has a modern, trendy vibe and feels like the kind of place you'd want to hang out with friends for a casual lunch or dinner. But the first bad sign was how empty it was. The selection was surprisingly wide too. There were a lot of interesting choices, and I actually liked the concept. I've been to plenty of conveyor belt sushi spots where you grab whatever catches your eye, but this was different. Instead of a conveyor, you walk the display and someone serves you each individual piece. It's definitely unique. That said, paying around $2.50 for a single piece of a sushi roll felt a little steep. Presentation wasn't the issue. Everything looked fresh and colorful behind the glass. Unfortunately, the taste didn't quite match the appearance. The biggest problem was the freshness and texture. Since everything is sitting out, it reminded me a lot of supermarket sushi that's been refrigerated for a while. The rice had hardened, the fish was somehow both dry and a little mushy, and the beef was served cold. The katsu was probably my favorite bite of the meal because it still had some texture, but even that leaned a little too salty. Service was fine. Everyone was friendly, but there wasn't much interaction beyond handing over the pieces you selected. Overall, I'm glad I gave it a try because I enjoy checking out new sushi spots, but I don't see myself coming back. The concept is interesting, but for me it felt like the complete opposite of an omakase experience. Instead of sushi being prepared fresh and served at its peak, it felt like convenience came at the expense of freshness and flavor. Instagrammable for sure. But I left hungry and bit disappointed

I am definitely a sushi lover! When I found out about this place, I knew I had to give it a try. From the beginning, the price tag always gave me a little bit of a scare. So I tried it by myself rather than with my family at five. I loved the array of options. The service was wonderful and helpful. The restaurant was clean and tidy. I felt like the quality of the food was exceptional and every bite I had was delicious. Overall, I love the concept, and the idea that I get to try different options. But it's not really a consistent option, considering the price.

We tried this place for the first time today. The decor is very modern, clean and nice. It's definitely a millenial/gen Z concept. You go in and pick from a variety of pre made pieces of sushi. You can get as little or as much as you'd like. There is a lunch special from 11 a.m to 3 p.m if you spend $18 you can choose between a free miso or a free soda. We got two free miso soups and a free soda. I don't eat fish and I don't like sea weed lol so they did make me a custom soy wrapped cucumber, avocado roll. If you get a custom roll, you have to buy the whole roll. The pieces of sushi can definitely add up, they go from around $2 to $3 or $4 each. It's a cool concept if you want variety without having to order full rolls. The service was very good, they were helpful in helping us figure out how the concept works. It's very casual.

Your bubble girl reviewer (peanut, tree nut, and seafood allergy) did not have an allergic reaction here. I did have to ask them to use different tongs to pick up my sushi, but they complied! If you have allergies, always ask staff. You go up to order individual pieces of sushi and then bring everything back to your table, the staff was very pleasant and helpful! They helped be make sure everything I ordered I was able to eat. Definitely gave me the disclaimer that there is a possibility of cross contamination with seafood, but watching them roll on the counter behind the register, I didn't feel too concerned. It looked clean. There was actually a lot for me to choose from, as somebody with severe seafood allergies. Many vegan and vegetarian options as well too. I got the pieces of musubi supreme, chicken katsu musubi, tofu veggie roll, and truffle maki. They were all very tasty. I think my favorite was either the truffle maki or katsu musubi if I had to pick, but to be honest they were all really good. The spam musubi also had pork!! Never seen that combo before and it was really good. They were really fast about getting rolls out once they were out, I took the last of the katsu musubi and they had one back out pretty quickly after. Great sushi experience, I will definitely be back soon!!

I really love the concept here because I never can decide what type of roll to get. When I walked in I was greeted immediately. The young lady explained how everything worked. They have a rotating menu with plenty of options for everyone. All the sushi has the name right in front of it and are cut up Into bite size pieces. The prices range from a dollar and some change up to about five dollars. I picked out a few pieces I had never tried before. They even offer a few sauces for your sushi. Everything was fresh and delicious. They have so many combinations that I would never think to put together. Everything does pair well together. I got the passion fruit drink. It was refreshing and light. I took my food to go and it was packaged beautifully. They put it in a cute black bag that seals up to keep the sushi fresh. This is an awesome new sushi spot. So if you can't ever decide on 1 roll and want a variety this is the spot for you.

First off, the concept is really cool. I like the pick and choose, but the prices can stack up. I got seven pieces and a onigiri which came out to around $26. Would be cool if there was set price for half dozen or dozen with limitations of course. Sushi was pretty fresh and rice quality is nice. Ambiance is super cool and looks relaxing enough to eat inside. Concept is for more food on the go, but I would totally eat inside next time. Service was nice and helpful, gave out a lot of sauces. Would come again when I want to treat myself.

2nd time here and each time has been a pleasant surprise. I've gone after 8pm each time. It's a cute date spot, and there are always ample places to sit. The workers are patient and kind. Cheetos tempura roll was a fun choice-tasted exactly how it sounds. Spicy karaage onigiri was okay. It needed more filling IMO. Last time, we got the tuna onigiri, and that was definitely better. Also, each time we've gotten an onigiri, one of the wrap's sides, if not both, always does not pull apart nicely...so beware of that. I'll still keep ordering onigiris though lol. The lemon salmon inari was so refreshing! I was happy with how fresh the salmon was. Definitely better than the cheesy crabby corn inari we got last time, but every inari we've gotten so far has been so good! The spam misubi wasn't my fav, but I liked how they added imitation crab for depth. Thai coco and peppered tuna crunch were great, but what really blew us away was the spicy rainbow roll w/ black rice. TBH, I am still dreaming about it. The chili garlic on top really added that "je ne sais quoi." They need to keep that on the rotation, as well as the spicy trio crunch. Also bomb.

First of all, I was planning to get poke from Butterfish, but I walked into the wrong door and ended up at Sushi Box instead First time being there and the vibe felt different right away. Great customer service too -- sadly I didn't ask for his name. The sushi was so damn good and I'd totally go back. I ordered 1 special onigiri, 4 specialty rolls, 2 special specialty rolls, and 2 inari. Total came out to $30.45 plus a $5 tip. Definitely worth it.

I was so excited when I first heard of this concept of a restaurant coming to Clovis! However, I missed the opening days and I began to read the reviews and I was definitely skeptical. Therefore, it took me a while to try it. My brother strongly suggested we try it and I finally went reluctantly. However, I am so glad he really pushed me to go because I loved it! I loved it so much that we went two times in one week. First of all as soon as you walk in, everybody shouts to welcome you in Japanese. We used to do that at a restaurant that I worked at and I absolutely loved it. Then there is someone at the counter that asks you if you have ever been there before if not, they explain how the whole thing works. You get a choice between three sides boxes. The first time I went with four different people, and we all got the personal for ourselves . Each of us got about 10 pieces of rolls. Then at the end you can get some sauces or wasabi and ginger. The second time I went, I shared a personal box with my husband, so I got as many pieces as I could put in that box. The sushi rice was the perfect texture (and I'm super picky about my rice). The fish was so fresh! Honestly, the nigiri has been my favorites so far! As far as the roles go, they change those out pretty often which I love trying different things every time I go. All of the pieces were so good and I love that they are not drenched in sauce. Also, huge bonus is they use real crab in their rolls!! It is pricey, but it's not much more pricey than a typical sushi/seafood spot. It is sushi after all and it's very fresh! I would gladly pay more for quality. For me, I love the variety and the fact that I don't have to order a roll with 10 pieces and just continuously eat that. I love trying new things and I think if you are the type of person who just wants the same thing every single time and wants it to be exactly the same this place might not be the place for you. But if you like being spontaneous and open to trying new things, it'll be a better choice for you! All in all, I highly recommend to try this place out. I'm already planning my next visit.

Karaage is individually packaged. 1.5 stars out of 5 for the ENTIRE experience. It wasn't even worth testing.

This is very important. If by name, sushi was the exclusive item they served, they better be extraordinary at it. That was not the case. To start, their serving situation almost guarantees a line out the door. Their suite was setup as such, but could very well be done strategically to emulate the idea that this place is "poppin". If they opened with low cost to serve, high priced items, limited time opening without informing the public, and make that money and a tax write off, they'd have done their job well. Customer service is good. The line can move quickly, but every other guest is guaranteed to face indecision. And that's for those who are experienced with coming by this place. Because they change up their menu, so crowd favorites WILL NOT be there for the next visit. (We overheard this from 2 different groups of people, and they were quite vocal about their disappointment.) The sushi assortment on display is ACTUALLY what you will get, and this is a problem for several reasons. 1) Dry. The rice vinegar will not keep the rice moist as it sits out for display. 2) Dry. The fish will dry out. The flavor falls flat. The overall taste is bland. 3) Quality control is lost just by the first two items I mentioned. 4) Cost. I do not care how much money Clovis people think they make, the barrier to entry for affording this place is WAY too high for what you get for piece-mealing low quality sushi. I covered a couple of problems related to displaying the sushi for consumption. That's not the only problem regarding this complaint. The sushi is protected from those in line with the plexiglass display, but as they make new sushi, they will place the new plates on top of the glass, where an approx. 12 year old girl, height of the top of the case, open-mouth coughed on the 2 plates that eventually make it into the case for purchase. The employee saw that and figured it was okay to serve so quickly shoved them into the display. The only Pro: We didn't get sick from eating here. But to continue the cons, we shared 10 pieces as an appetizer to test out the joint and made us feel hungrier. All of this is why I am giving them a 1.5 out of 5 stars. Doesn't round up, I'm afraid.

    Allyson T.

Happy to see a pick and choose sushi establishment! Plenty of options available, but I will say.. each time i've been, the displays have been half empty. Fortunately, not a huge deal because they're usually able to restock on empties in ~10min! Sushi here is pretty good quality- just get whatever sounds good to you and you're set! Prices here are a littttle high, but nothing out of the ordinary for sushi imo. Overall, I'd give Sushi box an 8.5/10! It's a nice treat once in a while

Such a great concept to bring to Fresno's foodie scene! I was so excited when I heard this place was opening, sooner than expected! I opted for almost every cooked sushi option available, and every roll I chose was delicious. I especially appreciated the size of the rolls. I've never been a fan of the huge, overly wide sushi rolls, so these were perfect for me :) I also tried their salmon onigiri but saved it for lunch the following day, and it was still so good. One of my kiddos really enjoyed that one as well! We also ordered their miso soups to go which our children really enjoyed. My husband and I waited about 15-20 minutes in line, which wasn't too bad. It was just pretty cold outside, so I wish the heater lamps had been turned on. The service was also super friendly and welcoming! The space itself was clean, bright, and inviting. Unfortunately, I have to steer clear of raw sushi for now, but I can't wait to return once I'm able to enjoy it again. Definitely looking forward to coming back!

One word of advice: if you're planning to join the waitlist, I recommend calling ahead for a more accurate wait time. The website initially showed no one ahead of us, but after joining the waitlist it indicated several parties were waiting. When we arrived, we were told the wait would be about 45 minutes, which wasn't ideal with a couple of hungry kids. Thankfully, we were seated within about 10 minutes. Our server, Patrick, was fantastic! He provided excellent customer service, took the time to explain the sushi rolls, helped us navigate the kids' menu, and was attentive throughout our meal. Patrick, thank you for helping make my mom's birthday dinner so memorable. Khasey was our chef, and the food was absolutely delicious. He made sure we had every sauce we asked for. The teppanyaki experience for the children was engaging and fun. To top it off, the staff brought out a cute birthday dessert and sang a birthday tune for my mom, which made the celebration even more special. The location is another huge plus. It's situated in a great area near Fresno State with plenty to do before or after dinner, including ice cream shops, boba spots, VR gaming, and movie theaters. Overall, we had a great experience and can't wait to come back!

So when my son asked us to meet him, his lovely wife and our 3 granddaughters for dinner on a recent visit I didn't have my hopes up. Namikaze is a nice quiet restaurant that from its decor could easily be an Italian, French or American restaurant. Just change the paintings on the wall. The Menu is pretty expansive. A full menu of Sushi, noodles, gyoza and rolls made it difficult to choose but eventually we narrowed it down. I always try the Unagi (eel) at any sushi restaurant. It is my barometer for how good everything else will probably be. It was good. I also ordered the Kimono Roll while my wife had Shogun roll. We also tried the Chicken Gyoza. Everything was terrific. Excellent taste and fresh. Next time someone asks me about Fresno I'll say "Fresno! They have good sushi there". Definitely Recommended.

I was immediate greeted by the two Sushi chefs behind the counter as I walked in. Not long after, the host greeted me and handed me a menu for me to select my order to go. I considered a poke bowl, however, their sauces were pretty standard. So instead I opted for their seaweed salad that came with a number of protein including tuna, edamame, shrimp, avocado, and masago. It was $19, so it wasn't necessarily inexpensive, however I figured a poke bowl with a couple proteins would run me right about there as well. The sushi chef got right away to work preparing my meal and I was in and out within 5 minutes. When I got home, I opened up my box and was a little underwhelmed with the presentation. The protein is cut up into small pieces and mixed in with the seaweed salad. In addition it is not pure seaweed as it is also mixed in with a bunch of other greens such as sprouts. So while the presentation was not what I was expecting, I was pleasantly surprised that I really enjoyed the flavors and textures. I will definitely order this again.

Automatically asked what we wanted, but we had never been here before, so wasn't sure how it all worked (they never explained). The walls of our booth were littered with scrape marks and chipped paint. The booth had no cushion whatsoever, making it extremely difficult to get comfortable (ok...there's a cushion, but it's flat). The table was the most annoying part. No matter if you scoot it more towards you or the other side there still so much space. I'm basically sitting at the edge of my seat trying to eat because of the distance--if you're a bit heftier on the stomach--it's perfect. (Random observation: the bathroom looks nice, but not well kept. There's graffiti and cravings all over, which makes me think I'm in the bathroom of a dive bar) Food: As I mentioned I was craving sushi--their selection was lack luster. Almost everything had the same ingredients. The salmon sashimi looked pale and had no color. There were some pieces that were sliced so thin you could basically see through it. I ordered two rolls for my daughter (crazy roll & snow mountain)--both were lacking flavor. The presentation for them was as if they didn't care or even try? Every time I picked one up it would fall apart. The Hibachi steak was cold and dry. Shot ribs were just lathered in sauce (not my preference), and mostly came with little meat and all bone. I'd only come back if the majority of people I'm with want to go, but I wouldn't suggest it myself. The service felt rushed. Food could have been presented/ prepared better. Space could've opened easily by letting us see out the windows and not feel so packed like a can of sardines, and could definitely use some touch up paint and better cushions. It could've been an off night, but this is what I experienced.

This place is quiet and laid back. No music playing and never packed the times I've come. Quick and…read morefriendly service. I have only come during lunch hour. The food is solid and good. Huge menu with a lot to choose from - I usually go for the bento boxes. The tempura isn't greasy but it's crunchy. Gyozas are good and fresh. The sushi I've tried has been tasty too. There's another side to the restaurant that I believe is the teppanyaki side. Haven't experienced it yet since I've only come for lunch. I'm wondering if they get a lot of business since it's so barren when I go. Hoping they get enough business because I do enjoy this restaurant!

Once we walked in we noticed it was pretty empty for a Saturday afternoon, but nonetheless we weren't bothered or worried. We feel our experience will be all the more better with just us 2 in the restaurant. Either way, we're good, the food will speak for itself. We decided to sit at the sushi bar and glad we did! Great music selection and the sushi chefs were a blast to talk with. Their humor made our lunch even that more enjoyable. We definitely made some friends and looking forward to come back another time.

We've been to Shobu twice now, and it's quickly become one of our favorite Japanese restaurants…read more What I love most is the variety on the menu. Whether you're craving sushi, teriyaki, or ramen, they really have something for everyone. The sushi and sashimi are incredibly fresh -- honestly some of the freshest fish we've had at any sushi restaurant. It tastes like the chef went out and caught it that morning. The 14-piece sashimi platter with a couple of rolls was more than enough for two people, and everything was excellent quality. The ramen is also fantastic, but fair warning: the bowls are HUGE, so definitely come hungry. Their garlic edamame is absolutely addictive, and we really enjoyed the poke in the seaweed poke salad, though the dish does lean very heavily on the seaweed, so just keep that in mind before ordering. Cassidy is new to the restaurant and waited on us. an Shewas wonderful -- super friendly, attentive, patient, and just genuinely great service all around. The only downside was the new menu design. The font is extremely tiny, printed on a small laminated sheet, and honestly very difficult to read. Hopefully they make the text larger in the future because the food itself is outstanding. Overall, highly recommend Shobu if you're looking for fresh sushi, excellent sashimi, hearty ramen, and great service.
