Frankly, Sushi Box, might be one of my top favorite sushi in Fresno/Clovis. Their sushi is pretty good. The quality and texture is all there. It taste fresh. The flavor is perfection. In my opinion, sushi needs the right and the best rice to enhance the sushi flavor. I love their choice of rice. It's sweet, fluffly, and moist. All of the rolls were amazing. Even if they look like they have been sitting there for awhile. I was supprised how crunchy and fresh the sushi taste. Every roll was supper flavorful. I love their Spicy Mayo Sauce. The flavor was strong. It's sweet, spicy, creamy and supper flavorful. ICED MATCHA $6 :: I tried their Iced Matcha. It's ok. I can't really taste the matcha. This drink reminds me of soybean milk. I'm excited for the future of 559 Cuisine. I've visited sushi box a few times, and stepping into this restaurant feels like a breath of fresh air. Stepping into this environment, a minimal space with minimal however aesthetically pleasing furniture. The cultural details elevate the space quite a bit. Sushi box allows you to custom create your dream roll. (Or rolls) they rotate the menu, daily, weekly, and or monthly. I'd say there a few skips on the menu but everything is pleasantly tasteful. Before I dive in I'd like to highlight the staff. My mom and have been maybe 2-3 times and on the second visit (months in between I might add) recognized us and provided us friendly service. My mom's hard to please but she enjoys coming back. Photographed are 3 different visits. Each roll is of high quality and phenomenal. My only complaint is my own fault from not knowing out to open the onigiri nonetheless delicious. Love the concept! First impression walking in, it's nice and spacious. I like how the each item is displayed. They have different size boxes or you can order a box with chef selection. Everything looked cleaned and they had plenty of people rolling up fresh rolls. Can't remember exactly what we got but every roll we ordered was delicious, great quality. Downside is the prices for each piece is kind of pricy. It ranges from like $3-$10 depending on item. It's like buying 1 whole roll for $25, you can get at least 7pc for that price. We came here for dinner on a Thursday night . It is a good concept but generally speaking when sushi has been sitting out for awhile it is not that good . I really wanted to like this place. I really did. First off, the restaurant itself looks great. It has a modern, trendy vibe and feels like the kind of place you'd want to hang out with friends for a casual lunch or dinner. But the first bad sign was how empty it was. The selection was surprisingly wide too. There were a lot of interesting choices, and I actually liked the concept. I've been to plenty of conveyor belt sushi spots where you grab whatever catches your eye, but this was different. Instead of a conveyor, you walk the display and someone serves you each individual piece. It's definitely unique. That said, paying around $2.50 for a single piece of a sushi roll felt a little steep. Presentation wasn't the issue. Everything looked fresh and colorful behind the glass. Unfortunately, the taste didn't quite match the appearance. The biggest problem was the freshness and texture. Since everything is sitting out, it reminded me a lot of supermarket sushi that's been refrigerated for a while. The rice had hardened, the fish was somehow both dry and a little mushy, and the beef was served cold. The katsu was probably my favorite bite of the meal because it still had some texture, but even that leaned a little too salty. Service was fine. Everyone was friendly, but there wasn't much interaction beyond handing over the pieces you selected. Overall, I'm glad I gave it a try because I enjoy checking out new sushi spots, but I don't see myself coming back. I love it! As a person who's often very indecisive about which rolls to get or what to try, this is great. You don't have to commit to a whole roll but instead by piece. To my surprise, my favorite was the gochujang beef tofu skin thing. It was so good and flavorful. My next favorite was the lobster one. I do believe they change the menu every week. I hope they keep those two. My least favorites had to be the musubis the katsu one was good but it definitely needs sauce. The chicken was on the drier side but decent. The spam/beef musubi was again, good but I felt like the flavor of the beef and spam were fighting each other. It didn't really compliment one another. If you have allergies, always ask staff. You go up to order individual pieces of sushi and then bring everything back to your table, the staff was very pleasant and helpful! They helped be make sure everything I ordered I was able to eat. Definitely gave me the disclaimer that there is a possibility of cross contamination with seafood, but watching them roll on the counter behind the register, I didn't feel too concerned. It looked clean. There was actually a lot for me to choose from, as somebody with severe seafood allergies. Many vegan and vegetarian options as well too. I got the pieces of musubi supreme, chicken katsu musubi, tofu veggie roll, and truffle maki. They were all very tasty. I think my favorite was either the truffle maki or katsu musubi if I had to pick, but to be honest they were all really good. The spam musubi also had pork!! We tried this place for the first time today. The decor is very modern, clean and nice. It's definitely a millenial/gen Z concept. You go in and pick from a variety of pre made pieces of sushi. You can get as little or as much as you'd like. There is a lunch special from 11 a.m to 3 p.m if you spend $18 you can choose between a free miso or a free soda. We got two free miso soups and a free soda. I don't eat fish and I don't like sea weed lol so they did make me a custom soy wrapped cucumber, avocado roll. If you get a custom roll, you have to buy the whole roll. The pieces of sushi can definitely add up, they go from around $2 to $3 or $4 each. I really love the concept here because I never can decide what type of roll to get. When I walked in I was greeted immediately. The young lady explained how everything worked. They have a rotating menu with plenty of options for everyone. All the sushi has the name right in front of it and are cut up Into bite size pieces. The prices range from a dollar and some change up to about five dollars. I picked out a few pieces I had never tried before. They even offer a few sauces for your sushi. Everything was fresh and delicious. They have so many combinations that I would never think to put together. Everything does pair well together. I got the passion fruit drink. This is very important. If by name, sushi was the exclusive item they served, they better be extraordinary at it. That was not the case. To start, their serving situation almost guarantees a line out the door. Their suite was setup as such, but could very well be done strategically to emulate the idea that this place is "poppin". If they opened with low cost to serve, high priced items, limited time opening without informing the public, and make that money and a tax write off, they'd have done their job well. Customer service is good. The line can move quickly, but every other guest is guaranteed to face indecision. And that's for those who are experienced with coming by this place. Because they change up their menu, so crowd favorites WILL NOT be there for the next visit. (We overheard this from 2 different groups of people, and they were quite vocal about their disappointment.) The sushi assortment on display is ACTUALLY what you will get, and this is a problem for several reasons. 1) Dry. The rice vinegar will not keep the rice moist as it sits out for display. 2) Dry. The fish will dry out. The flavor falls flat. The overall taste is bland. 3) Quality control is lost just by the first two items I mentioned. 4) Cost. I do not care how much money Clovis people think they make, the barrier to entry for affording this place is WAY too high for what you get for piece-mealing low quality sushi. I covered a couple of problems related to displaying the sushi for consumption. That's not the only problem regarding this complaint. The sushi is protected from those in line with the plexiglass display, but as they make new sushi, they will place the new plates on top of the glass, where an approx. 12 year old girl, height of the top of the case, open-mouth coughed on the 2 plates that eventually make it into the case for purchase. The employee saw that and figured it was okay to serve so quickly shoved them into the display. The only Pro: We didn't get sick from eating here. But to continue the cons, we shared 10 pieces as an appetizer to test out the joint and made us feel hungrier. All of this is why I am giving them a 1.5 out of 5 stars. I was so excited when I first heard of this concept of a restaurant coming to Clovis! However, I missed the opening days and I began to read the reviews and I was definitely skeptical. Therefore, it took me a while to try it. My brother strongly suggested we try it and I finally went reluctantly. However, I am so glad he really pushed me to go because I loved it! I loved it so much that we went two times in one week. First of all as soon as you walk in, everybody shouts to welcome you in Japanese. We used to do that at a restaurant that I worked at and I absolutely loved it. Then there is someone at the counter that asks you if you have ever been there before if not, they explain how the whole thing works. You get a choice between three sides boxes. The first time I went with four different people, and we all got the personal for ourselves . Each of us got about 10 pieces of rolls. Then at the end you can get some sauces or wasabi and ginger. The second time I went, I shared a personal box with my husband, so I got as many pieces as I could put in that box. The sushi rice was the perfect texture (and I'm super picky about my rice). The fish was so fresh! Honestly, the nigiri has been my favorites so far! As far as the roles go, they change those out pretty often which I love trying different things every time I go. All of the pieces were so good and I love that they are not drenched in sauce. Also, huge bonus is they use real crab in their rolls!! It is pricey, but it's not much more pricey than a typical sushi/seafood spot. It is sushi after all and it's very fresh! I would gladly pay more for quality. For me, I love the variety and the fact that I don't have to order a roll with 10 pieces and just continuously eat that. I love trying new things and I think if you are the type of person who just wants the same thing every single time and wants it to be exactly the same this place might not be the place for you. Such a great concept to bring to Fresno's foodie scene! I was so excited when I heard this place was opening, sooner than expected! I opted for almost every cooked sushi option available, and every roll I chose was delicious. I especially appreciated the size of the rolls. I've never been a fan of the huge, overly wide sushi rolls, so these were perfect for me :) I also tried their salmon onigiri but saved it for lunch the following day, and it was still so good. 2nd time here and each time has been a pleasant surprise. I've gone after 8pm each time. It's a cute date spot, and there are always ample places to sit. The workers are patient and kind. Cheetos tempura roll was a fun choice-tasted exactly how it sounds. Spicy karaage onigiri was okay. It needed more filling IMO. Last time, we got the tuna onigiri, and that was definitely better. Also, each time we've gotten an onigiri, one of the wrap's sides, if not both, always does not pull apart nicely...so beware of that. I'll still keep ordering onigiris though lol. The lemon salmon inari was so refreshing! I was happy with how fresh the salmon was. Definitely better than the cheesy crabby corn inari we got last time, but every inari we've gotten so far has been so good! The spam misubi wasn't my fav, but I liked how they added imitation crab for depth. Thai coco and peppered tuna crunch were great, but what really blew us away was the spicy rainbow roll w/ black rice. TBH, I am still dreaming about it. Finally had the time to visit. Stopped by Friday during their Grand Opening but didn't have the extra time to wait. Returned today arrived just after 5pm there was a line, as expected. It was nice that they had heaters outside to keep everyone warm. Waited about 40mins in line and we got inside and we waited a little more to get help overall we were there a total of 1 hour. Love the concept of this place, as you enter you are hit by the smell of fresh fish. Menus are provided at the front and their sushi rotates on a weekly basis. The items with the stickers in the menu are what they are currently offering for the week. You basically build your own sushi box. My husband and I wanted to try all of it!!! We decided to order 2 of each available item (expect items with crabs and mango, since he has a crab allergy and we just weren't interested in anything mango flavored. Each sushi is made fresh by all the hard working sushi chefs. The workers are so kind and they greeted and acknowledged us the whole way through. Not once did we feel rushed though they were busy. We ordered a total of 32 rolls. The rolls all tasted delicious, fresh and they were beautiful crafted. My favorites were the Bi Feng Tang, creamy crabby corn inrari. You could definitely taste the freshness of the raw fish. The shrimp tempura was amazing!!! It was so crunchy, the batter was delicious and it wasn't greasy! Would love to order that again!!! We tried this hot new restaurant last night for the first time. It's pretty good, although I have two suggestions that would make it even better. Here's a quick rundown: 1) The restaurant itself is bright and airy, and they keep it super clean. There's a lot of seating and clean bathrooms. 2) The staff is really great; super attentive and friendly. There's almost too many of them, but I would rather they have more staff than they need than being short staffed. 3) The sushi itself was all really good. Our kids are fairly particular, and they loved their onigiri. We also liked our rolls. They list major dietary restrictions clearly on everything, which is great. There's a small selection of beer and also soft drinks. I do have a couple suggestions for things that would majorly improve the experience here. The first is getting rid of the paper boxes for dine-in customers, and simply using plastic bento boxes (less waste and actually easier to eat from). The second would be a couple more options that are a bit more plain: perhaps plain inari, a plain avocado roll...more basic (ie, less fancy) options. What a great concept. Imagine picking out pieces of sushi like you would donuts at a donut shop. There was a bit of a line outside, but heat lamps to keep us warm. Three of us went in to each build a box. First off, the rice was perfect, not too cold and not hard. We tried a great variety of things and everything was delicious. There are a few things to note to make this just short of a 5 star review. I had a piece of fish that tasted funky, and a couple pieces that were sliced awkwardly. Worst though was that the spam on the musibis looked old and also tasted old. We got out of there for $67 before tip. Not bad for sushi for three people. Everything was fresh and they kept refilling the sushi dishes. I'm an avid sushi eater and have my favorites. While I liked some of the pieces I picked, I think I like the traditional style better. Where you order a whole roll which is about 6 pieces. I liked a couple of my choices but not all of them. I wished I ordered more of the ones I liked but didn't feel like going back in line. I really loved this little spot! Yes, the line can get long but it really reminded me of Japan and just how small the restaurants like this are. It reminds me of a very "on the go" type of place and I dig it! Everything looked very fresh and all of the workers were very friendly and welcoming. It was our first time in and it was only overwhelming because I WANTED EVERYTHING!! lol I liked all the choices and people need to remember that sushi grade fish isn't always cheap, so you get what you pay for! Descent pricing for all of the pieces that were offered. We will be back again! read more

Love the concept, not the pricing. I can't believe I'm saying this about an LRG spot but... I didn't love it. Sure, it's cool to have for people who aren't as picky about fresh sushi and maybe even only want a couple pieces to satisfy their cravings? ... but, for someone like me? I crave sushi ALL THE TIME. I need that entire roll... or two. Fresh, juicy, tasty... and for it not to cost me double the price for that Itty bitty portion! I took my niece last week to try it out for the first time together. We picked 11 pcs total between the two of us and that cost me a little over $30. I could get two full rolls for that amount elsewhere-- this was basically one roll for the price of two. This wasn't a meal, this was an appetizer and that's a shame. In order for me to be fully satisfied here, I'd probably have to spend $30-40 (maybe even 50) on myself alone... and that's bizarre. In a perfect world I'd have all the money to splurge but I wouldn't pay that much for sushi pieces sitting behind a counter for who knows how long versus it being made fresh, made-to-order. My friend did warn me to go on a busy day, because then you know the rolls are being pushed out more rapidly and frequently-- whereas... on a slow day, whatever doesn't sell sits until it does. Unfortunately, it wasn't busy when we went (crazy, I never want to go when places are too busy). Don't get me wrong, most of the sushi pieces were good, we enjoyed it for the most part. I just couldn't tell you what the pieces I got were called and which one I liked best... nothing was real stand out. The two nigiri pieces, the rice underneath those two pieces definitely didn't seem freshly made when I bit into them. I mainly picked the options with raw salmon (my fave)... and I tried to pick the ones that looked the most flavorful. Idk what my niece's thought process was. I think she went by what looked good to her. Her favorite was the inari one. The restaurant itself isn't that big, only a few small tables along the wall and up front. They kept it clean from what I saw. Some cute seats and decor. The girl behind the counter who helped us was nice and patient with us... The others behind the counter, not so friendly. When we first got to the counter, there was a bunch of them gathered together in that corner... just stared at us... no greeting, no smiles. Would I come again? It's not a hell no, but it's not a hell yes either. If someone was treating me to this? Yeah, sure, I'm game! Cute sushi box with a variety of sushi pieces to try. If I had a choice between here or somewhere else-- like Butterfish just around the corner?-- I'm going with Butterfish. I'd rather spend $14-16 on a Poke Bowl that'll fill me up and satisfy me more than $30-40 on a gamble of different sushi pieces . Trust me-- I'll spend good money on sushi if it's going to blow my mind. That wasnt the case here... This was maybe a smidge up from store packed sushi, not worth that price. Pains me to say, I'd give them a 2.5. My niece said 3. Since this was the first time and it wasn't awful, we'll round up and go with my niece's rating... until (maybe) next time, bye! read more

When you first step in the door, you're greeted with a wall of waving cats! I love it! It was so adorable. The aesthetic of the place is super minimalistic and clean even with the decor. Worker greeted us right away and told us how to order. We only got a few things to try out this time around. Price point is a little pricy but you are paying for the whole experience and the flexibility of making your own box. You have to go at the right time to have the fully stocked but what we ordered were all tasty. My fav was the tuna poke! read more

My favorite sushi experience ever! I haven't had sushi in over a year since my wife is allergic, but I came into town and had the opportunity, very glad I chose Sushi Box as my first time back! Service was great, you are met with smiling faces that truly look like they enjoy working there. You get this unique experience where you can order different pieces of rolls, instead of committing to a full roll. It's like a fun mix and match! Everything I ordered was delicious. My favorite being the Dragon Musubi. The crunch of the tempura shrimp, the softness of the avocado and the grilled eel were a perfect combination of textures. My favorite masubi variation ever. My wife wasn't with me but she would have died for the original spam musubi which also had pork in it as well. To top it all off, I highly recommend their sparkling Yuzu white peach drink, perfect pair with any of the rolls. And if they run out of rolls, they make new ones to order so no need to worry if they don't have the roll you were wanting. Great place to sit and eat, they clean the tables up for you and insist you leave your table as is. Great service! Definitely coming back again this week! Highly recommend! read more

A little pricey but all the sushi's were so delicious. It wasn't too packed and it was decorated sooo cute. The experience is very unique which is what borough is here. We got the smaller box but it was enough for us to share. The matsubi had pork in it and it was the best! read more

I think this place is an interesting concept but overall I think it's a little pricey for what you get. That being said, the restaurant is lovely, the servers were kind and friendly, and everything tasted great! It's just paying $10 for 3 pieces of sushi is kind of a lot when you could get a whole roll for a little more than that somewhere else. So, it's nice if you want variety or you're not looking for an affordable meal option. I spent over $30 for what you see pictured (2 inari and 11 sushi pieces) which is basically the equivalent of 1 roll plus the inari and that's a lot of money for 1 roll! So you just have to decide if you'd rather have variety or affordability when picking this as your sushi option. The packaging was gorgeous though, and rolls change weekly! read more

Everything looks fresh & DELICIOUS! Very much impressed! Plus, they change up their menu weekly. Awesome! You have a Large variety to pick from. Many different sizes. I picked the personal. The restaurant is nice. Safe and clean. You start in a line that moves fast! Workers are Great! Very kind and happy to give recommendations. I took a couple. After I picked it was check out and he was very kind. Happy to add ginger & extra wasabi for me! Lunchtime! I definitely got more than planned! Everything looked Really GREAT! Surf & Turf & Cheesy Crab Corn Inari were definitely different and Faves! Especially with the tasty wasabi & soy sauce! GREAT Rainbow roll & Crabby Rangoon. Fresh & Tasty! Nice crunch too!! It was my first time trying Sushi Box today. I got the big box and got two of everything. Everything didn't fit so had to get a smaller box for the rest. The sushi is very fresh. Full of flavors and everything. They're Freshly made in the back and place at the front. Until it is almost out they'll tell the sushi chef to make more. The employees are very friendly and help me with my first time being here. This place is perfect for those who want a quick lunch. Pick what you like, eat and leave. Simple as that just like the traditional Japanese in Japan. I highly recommend this place and I'll be back for more. Oh on top of that they told me the menu changes every week. My kinda place. This way I don't eat the same thing every time. Glad there's a place that makes different types of rolls for each weeks. read more

The sushi options on their menu are good BUT they don't make the whole menu!! They only do a handful of rolls each week. Each piece is kind of expensive, so if you eat a lot of sushi, I don't recommend this place. Most of the rolls on their menu (at least when we went) all had crab in it...which is an up charge for each roll. I recommend you try it at least once, as you can try a few different types of sushi without having to buy the whole roll, you just have to be willing to pay for it. The service is great! The people behind the counter were helpful and they will direct you on your choices! read more
