Love the concept! First impression walking in, it's nice and spacious. I like how the each item is displayed. They have different size boxes or you can order a box with chef selection. Everything looked cleaned and they had plenty of people rolling up fresh rolls. Can't remember exactly what we got but every roll we ordered was delicious, great quality. Downside is the prices for each piece is kind of pricy. It ranges from like $3-$10 depending on item. It's like buying 1 whole roll for $25, you can get at least 7pc for that price. The miso soup was delicious and had great flavor. I hope one day they'll do specials on box sizes instead and charge by the box, completely filled up. Overall great idea and very good.

Great concept, and great service. You can mix and match individual pieces instead of having to order a full roll, which makes it easy to try a little bit of everything. The sushi was fresh, the selection was good, and it's perfect when you want something quick without sacrificing quality. Definitely try one of their specialty boxes or build your own. They have indoor and patio seating, and parking is convenient in the shopping center.

We came here for dinner on a Thursday night . It is a good concept but generally speaking when sushi has been sitting out for awhile it is not that good . The sushi is made fresh but you could tell some of the less popular items were sitting out for awhile . This place is good if you want something quick but for the prices I think it is more worth your money to go to a regular sushi restaurant . This is a good place if you want something fast and are indecisive . The interior of the restaurant is super chic and clean !

I really wanted to like this place. I really did. First off, the restaurant itself looks great. It has a modern, trendy vibe and feels like the kind of place you'd want to hang out with friends for a casual lunch or dinner. But the first bad sign was how empty it was. The selection was surprisingly wide too. There were a lot of interesting choices, and I actually liked the concept. I've been to plenty of conveyor belt sushi spots where you grab whatever catches your eye, but this was different. Instead of a conveyor, you walk the display and someone serves you each individual piece. It's definitely unique. That said, paying around $2.50 for a single piece of a sushi roll felt a little steep. Presentation wasn't the issue. Everything looked fresh and colorful behind the glass. Unfortunately, the taste didn't quite match the appearance. The biggest problem was the freshness and texture. Since everything is sitting out, it reminded me a lot of supermarket sushi that's been refrigerated for a while. The rice had hardened, the fish was somehow both dry and a little mushy, and the beef was served cold. The katsu was probably my favorite bite of the meal because it still had some texture, but even that leaned a little too salty. Service was fine. Everyone was friendly, but there wasn't much interaction beyond handing over the pieces you selected. Overall, I'm glad I gave it a try because I enjoy checking out new sushi spots, but I don't see myself coming back. The concept is interesting, but for me it felt like the complete opposite of an omakase experience. Instead of sushi being prepared fresh and served at its peak, it felt like convenience came at the expense of freshness and flavor. Instagrammable for sure. But I left hungry and bit disappointed

I love it! As a person who's often very indecisive about which rolls to get or what to try, this is great. You don't have to commit to a whole roll but instead by piece. Also it's right in front of you, so you can definitely see what you're choosing. I got a bit of everything just to try. Everything was delicious. Even with the rolls being coldish. To my surprise, my favorite was the gochujang beef tofu skin thing. It was so good and flavorful. My next favorite was the lobster one. I do believe they change the menu every week. I hope they keep those two. My least favorites had to be the musubis the katsu one was good but it definitely needs sauce. The chicken was on the drier side but decent. The spam/beef musubi was again, good but I felt like the flavor of the beef and spam were fighting each other. It didn't really compliment one another. Overall I loved the experience, the food was delicious. I'd definitely come back again--even if it's out of my way.

Sushi Rolls (can't remember each piece)
    Lai W.

Went there for lunch. It is a walk up counter. The Sushi is sold by the piece ($1.55 - $5.45.). You tell the staff which rolls and how many you want and they put them on a tray for you. We got 18 pieces for a total of $48.20 + 4.32=$52.42 w/Tax. There were 2 rolls I really liked. Unfortunately, I don't remember their names! Jayla was very friendly and patient (waiting for us to decide) and the place was clean. Although I like the concept, I don't think I'll return since I can't remember the two rolls I actually liked. The rest of the rolls were just okay. I only took a picture of my tray and not the other two. See receipt picture for full list.

10 pieces of sushi for about $25

I had seen Sushi Box all over social media and was excited to try it. I really like the concept of ordering sushi by the piece so you can pick exactly what you want. The only downside for me was the pricing. I was honestly surprised at how expensive it was. One plate with eight pieces of sushi was about $20, and my second plate with 10 pieces of sushi was around $25. In my opinion, that's pretty pricey. I feel like you could go to a Japanese restaurant and get full sushi rolls for less. On the plus side, the sushi is already made, so it's super convenient if you're hungry and want something quick. The staff was also really nice and helpful. Overall, I think it's a cool concept, but I probably won't be back just because of the prices.

    Rachelle M.

I am definitely a sushi lover! When I found out about this place, I knew I had to give it a try. From the beginning, the price tag always gave me a little bit of a scare. So I tried it by myself rather than with my family at five. I loved the array of options. The service was wonderful and helpful. The restaurant was clean and tidy. I felt like the quality of the food was exceptional and every bite I had was delicious. Overall, I love the concept, and the idea that I get to try different options. But it's not really a consistent option, considering the price.

Your bubble girl reviewer (peanut, tree nut, and seafood allergy) did not have an allergic reaction here. I did have to ask them to use different tongs to pick up my sushi, but they complied! If you have allergies, always ask staff. You go up to order individual pieces of sushi and then bring everything back to your table, the staff was very pleasant and helpful! They helped be make sure everything I ordered I was able to eat. Definitely gave me the disclaimer that there is a possibility of cross contamination with seafood, but watching them roll on the counter behind the register, I didn't feel too concerned. It looked clean. There was actually a lot for me to choose from, as somebody with severe seafood allergies. Many vegan and vegetarian options as well too. I got the pieces of musubi supreme, chicken katsu musubi, tofu veggie roll, and truffle maki. They were all very tasty. I think my favorite was either the truffle maki or katsu musubi if I had to pick, but to be honest they were all really good. The spam musubi also had pork!! Never seen that combo before and it was really good. They were really fast about getting rolls out once they were out, I took the last of the katsu musubi and they had one back out pretty quickly after. Great sushi experience, I will definitely be back soon!!

    Cucumber, avocado, soy paper roll

We tried this place for the first time today. The decor is very modern, clean and nice. It's definitely a millenial/gen Z concept. You go in and pick from a variety of pre made pieces of sushi. You can get as little or as much as you'd like. There is a lunch special from 11 a.m to 3 p.m if you spend $18 you can choose between a free miso or a free soda. We got two free miso soups and a free soda. I don't eat fish and I don't like sea weed lol so they did make me a custom soy wrapped cucumber, avocado roll. If you get a custom roll, you have to buy the whole roll. The pieces of sushi can definitely add up, they go from around $2 to $3 or $4 each. It's a cool concept if you want variety without having to order full rolls. The service was very good, they were helpful in helping us figure out how the concept works. It's very casual.

    Chiquita G.

I really love the concept here because I never can decide what type of roll to get. When I walked in I was greeted immediately. The young lady explained how everything worked. They have a rotating menu with plenty of options for everyone. All the sushi has the name right in front of it and are cut up Into bite size pieces. The prices range from a dollar and some change up to about five dollars. I picked out a few pieces I had never tried before. They even offer a few sauces for your sushi. Everything was fresh and delicious. They have so many combinations that I would never think to put together. Everything does pair well together. I got the passion fruit drink. It was refreshing and light. I took my food to go and it was packaged beautifully. They put it in a cute black bag that seals up to keep the sushi fresh. This is an awesome new sushi spot. So if you can't ever decide on 1 roll and want a variety this is the spot for you.

Karaage is individually packaged. 1.5 stars out of 5 for the ENTIRE experience. It wasn't even worth testing.
    Saemlinh I.

This is very important. If by name, sushi was the exclusive item they served, they better be extraordinary at it. That was not the case. To start, their serving situation almost guarantees a line out the door. Their suite was setup as such, but could very well be done strategically to emulate the idea that this place is "poppin". If they opened with low cost to serve, high priced items, limited time opening without informing the public, and make that money and a tax write off, they'd have done their job well. Customer service is good. The line can move quickly, but every other guest is guaranteed to face indecision. And that's for those who are experienced with coming by this place. Because they change up their menu, so crowd favorites WILL NOT be there for the next visit. (We overheard this from 2 different groups of people, and they were quite vocal about their disappointment.) The sushi assortment on display is ACTUALLY what you will get, and this is a problem for several reasons. 1) Dry. The rice vinegar will not keep the rice moist as it sits out for display. 2) Dry. The fish will dry out. The flavor falls flat. The overall taste is bland. 3) Quality control is lost just by the first two items I mentioned. 4) Cost. I do not care how much money Clovis people think they make, the barrier to entry for affording this place is WAY too high for what you get for piece-mealing low quality sushi. I covered a couple of problems related to displaying the sushi for consumption. That's not the only problem regarding this complaint. The sushi is protected from those in line with the plexiglass display, but as they make new sushi, they will place the new plates on top of the glass, where an approx. 12 year old girl, height of the top of the case, open-mouth coughed on the 2 plates that eventually make it into the case for purchase. The employee saw that and figured it was okay to serve so quickly shoved them into the display. The only Pro: We didn't get sick from eating here. But to continue the cons, we shared 10 pieces as an appetizer to test out the joint and made us feel hungrier. All of this is why I am giving them a 1.5 out of 5 stars. Doesn't round up, I'm afraid.

    Anay G.

I was so excited when I first heard of this concept of a restaurant coming to Clovis! However, I missed the opening days and I began to read the reviews and I was definitely skeptical. Therefore, it took me a while to try it. My brother strongly suggested we try it and I finally went reluctantly. However, I am so glad he really pushed me to go because I loved it! I loved it so much that we went two times in one week. First of all as soon as you walk in, everybody shouts to welcome you in Japanese. We used to do that at a restaurant that I worked at and I absolutely loved it. Then there is someone at the counter that asks you if you have ever been there before if not, they explain how the whole thing works. You get a choice between three sides boxes. The first time I went with four different people, and we all got the personal for ourselves . Each of us got about 10 pieces of rolls. Then at the end you can get some sauces or wasabi and ginger. The second time I went, I shared a personal box with my husband, so I got as many pieces as I could put in that box. The sushi rice was the perfect texture (and I'm super picky about my rice). The fish was so fresh! Honestly, the nigiri has been my favorites so far! As far as the roles go, they change those out pretty often which I love trying different things every time I go. All of the pieces were so good and I love that they are not drenched in sauce. Also, huge bonus is they use real crab in their rolls!! It is pricey, but it's not much more pricey than a typical sushi/seafood spot. It is sushi after all and it's very fresh! I would gladly pay more for quality. For me, I love the variety and the fact that I don't have to order a roll with 10 pieces and just continuously eat that. I love trying new things and I think if you are the type of person who just wants the same thing every single time and wants it to be exactly the same this place might not be the place for you. But if you like being spontaneous and open to trying new things, it'll be a better choice for you! All in all, I highly recommend to try this place out. I'm already planning my next visit.

She even took the menu out of my hand while I was still asking a question and finishing my order, which came across as quite rude. Thankfully, the rest of the experience more than made up for it. Our Teppanyaki chef was charismatic, entertaining, and made the meal a lot of fun. Best of all, the food was absolutely delicious! I would definitely come back for the chef and the great food--I just hope for better service next time.

I love it but their brand I did not like. Their spring salad was pretty boring and it lacked complexity Miso soup typical uninventive They gave me a cucumber salad with crab that I really liked it came with my chiriashi My chiriashi : Presentation fantastic Quantity of fish fantastic The bed of rice was kind of cold. I would've preferred warmer fresh rice. I ordered fresh wasabi root It was a bit chunky. I'd prefer it more minced it's hard for me to get the right proportion on my sushi with a large chunk that was presented with I'd say it was diced not minced Honest, four stars Definitely not five due to the lack of complexity

Whether you're craving sushi, teriyaki, or ramen, they really have something for everyone. The sushi and sashimi are incredibly fresh -- honestly some of the freshest fish we've had at any sushi restaurant. It tastes like the chef went out and caught it that morning. The 14-piece sashimi platter with a couple of rolls was more than enough for two people, and everything was excellent quality. The ramen is also fantastic, but fair warning: the bowls are HUGE, so definitely come hungry. Their garlic edamame is absolutely addictive, and we really enjoyed the poke in the seaweed poke salad, though the dish does lean very heavily on the seaweed, so just keep that in mind before ordering. Cassidy is new to the restaurant and waited on us. an Shewas wonderful -- super friendly, attentive, patient, and just genuinely great service all around. The only downside was the new menu design. The font is extremely tiny, printed on a small laminated sheet, and honestly very difficult to read. Hopefully they make the text larger in the future because the food itself is outstanding. Overall, highly recommend Shobu if you're looking for fresh sushi, excellent sashimi, hearty ramen, and great service.

Being Japanese, my Grandma typically craves Japanese food and only goes to places she enjoys. I wanted her to branch out, so I selected this spot. When we entered, the vibes were a bit off. It was summer in the valley, and it was hot. There was no AC inside, just fans, and we were literally sweating during our entire meal. It was quiet, very dark, and not clean--sticky floors and menu. The service was nice, but not very attentive. Regarding the food, we got two Bento Boxes and one Caterpillar Roll. For the price, the portion was good, but the quality and taste weren't the best. The tempura was really thick, and the shrimp was reminiscent of the frozen Costco shrimp tempura. The sashimi was stringy and of poor quality. The rolls we had were falling apart, and the avocado was mushy and not fresh. Everything we had was subpar at most, which is a shame considering how vast the menu is (lol at their AI pictures though). I wouldn't come back nor recommend what we got. Good Japanese food can be hard to come by in Fresno. I'd skip Shobu Japanese Cuisine due to the food quality and environment. Find them off Blackstone Ave. in the shopping complex with free parking.
