A solid three star. They have been around for years and I have never gotten bad sushi so to speak. But they seem to be progressively getting lower morale as time goes on... Maybe this is part of doing the same thing for years. I can't guess but the manager or whomever hosts the front always seems to be upset, or curt or just plain rude... not sure. That can all pass if they put out a solid sushi. Thing is I just ordered and the Volcano roll was bizarre. It was so mushy and hard to pick up. When I chewed on a piece there was something more tougher in it then the rest of the portion. So you had a completely mushy 90% with some tougher than usual portion that I couldn't make out. It was so weird that I thought I will be getting sick later from this. Yet I still ate it thinking I'll be furious later if I'm throwing up, lol. End of story was I thankfully didn't get sick but that was not a proper roll. It's just between the non-inviting personality of the host and the taste of what I received I think I'll be skipping them for awhile. There's other options in the area. read more

I smartly, make sure I eat past 7 so I don't pay for meters but so does everyone else. However, never have issues finding a spot here. This place is small, smaller than Hagane and much smaller than Frenasia BUT what it makes up in size reflects in service. The two times I went to Sakura the service has always been on point. Very friendly. This place is super quiet, no much going on which is my kind of spot. As far as the menu, it's typical sushi fair and cooked Japanese dishes. I've ordered their regular sushi rolls-nothing fancy like their special rolls and I have been pleased with the quality. I've also ordered their Katsudon- egg onto of friend pork with veggies played over a bed off rice. And so far, it's the most tastiest katsudon in the area. Overall, there is nothing ultra special about this place, nothing fancy, just the basics done in a simply satisfying way. When I'm in my sushi made right mood (which is almost weekly) I go here. I would say it is not the best sushi ever but I did enjoy coming here about 5 years ago. My review then would probably have been 5 stars. I think the lunch specials here are still a good deal. Japanese food is something I don't get to eat all the time anymore but this bad economy but still every now and then, I mix it up: Get the three roll special. It is more expensive than it was a few years ago, but I still get the same. Spicy Salmon Roll, Tuna Avocado Roll and Eel Cucumber Roll is what I used to always get. Shrimp TEMPURA roll is great too, but menu has changed and you can no longer get it part of the lunch special. That kind of kills some of my motivation to come here also, the deal was better at some point in the past. I can easily find another spot in manhattan that can offer a great deal now. It is convenient though to have a japanese place in the area close to where you live. Miso Soup is also very good here. I need to try the Seafood Soup though, whenever I MAY happen to return. read more

The restaurant was a lot smaller than I had imagined it to be. There were about 5 tables. I did the 3 dinner rolls: shrimp tempura, spicy tuna and spicy shrimp. The spicy shrimp roll did not look like there was any shrimp in it at all. It should be called a cucumber roll cause thats all I saw and tasted. The spicy tuna had a weird texture and I was turned off by this. The shrimp tempura was fine. I also ordered the chicken teriyaki and the chicken was just okay. I've been here a bunch of times and have not been disappointed or left hungry as they tend to over stuff you. The staff is attentive and friendly. Love, love, love this little sushi spot. Everything is always fresh and delicious. The service here is wonderful-I've been coming here for years and the sweet girls always remember my order. The restaurant itself is small and intimate, they do accept cards and there is only street parking available. Food is beautifully presented and they don't cheap you on the take out either-you get just as much as you would eating in. Also-The manager looks a little like Mr.Chow from the Hangover lol. I've been here on three separate occasions and they've been pretty solid experiences- the service is stellar but the food is quite bland. That being said the food here is almost like a wannabe imitation, being prepared for someone who's had a heart attack and cant have salt and is on a diet. There's little to no flavor in any of the dishes I've tried. I wanted to like it and thought maybe it was a fluke so I came back two more times, both times I received bland mush. I guess I should be more careful who I trust with recommendations (two Non-adventourous old ladies who think California rolls are authentic Japanese cuisine). The spicy tuna roll was absolutely awful all filler and it had an odor on top of it. When the check came I noticed that my meal was one dollar more than it said in the menu. I brought this to the waiters attention. He first took a dollar off my bill and said sorry then came back and added the dollar on my bill and said it was because I asked for a spicy tuna roll instead of the California roll. I was desperate for some sushi and with the limited sushi restaurants in this area, i decided to take a chance and order from here since reviews were decent. I ordered delivery through seamless and it took over 2 hours to arrive. I was quoted around 2:45-2:55 when I placed my order at 2pm. I did not receive my food until 4:11. I called the place twice to see where my food was and they kept telling me the guy went out already. I understand that they might have a lot of orders but my address is literally 5 mins away from this place. The guy who picked up the phone was very unprofessional also.
