    Order up!

Most people have probably encountered Sarku Japan at the food court of their local shopping mall by a roaming person handing out samples of their teriyaki chicken on a toothpick. I miss that practice now that it was curtailed during Covid because it was a free tasty treat and it usually roped us in to order from them. You would stand in line and follow your tray as you watched your food being prepared. You don't get that experience at this stand alone restaurant in Jamaica because it's more of a traditional order-at-the-counter fastfood joint, but they do make your food fresh to order in the kitchen behind the counter. Their main bread & butter dish is of course, the Teriyaki Chicken, marinated dark meat chicken chunks cooked on the steel flattop grill and slathered in sweet, thick teriyaki sauce. You can get this with shrimp also or even extra chicken (+$2) if you're really hangry. It comes with the options of white rice, fried rice or noodles and some mixed vegetables. A small cup of teriyaki sauce is integrated into the container cover for you to drizzle onto your chicken at your leisure. Beef is also an alternate protein. You can get any dish as a bento box that's +$2 and it comes with 3 gyoza, 4 pcs California roll & salad, but the main dish will be smaller. Other fast food sushi is also available that I would ordinarily stay away from, but the California roll was not too shabby.

Came in on a Friday afternoon to get a quick lunch. The lines moved fast and it was clean inside. I liked the food but it is only teriyaki flavor served. I wish there more selections like they do in the mall but it is okay. I order the shrimp & chicken with the fried rice. It was good.

Good Japanese food in Jamaica queens, they give you really good portions of chicken teriyaki with the fried rice.you don't have to ask them to put more meat on your plate it comes pretty packed on. Both the chicken and rice have a good taste to it. I don't have alot of Japanese restaurants that I order from or go to,but I have to admit me and wife enjoy sarku japan. And will definitely order from this restaurant again.

For starters we had to get Edamame and Calamari which was a little soft for my tasting but was still pretty good. Instead, I was served a cheeseburger with french fries, which was completely different from what I ordered. When I brought this to the staff's attention, the response was dismissive and argumentative, rather than focused on resolving the issue. Rather than escalate the situation, I chose to leave. Although I had already paid, I did not feel comfortable staying or continuing the conversation. This was especially disappointing because I have been a loyal customer for years, long before the new ownership. I used to visit frequently, and even now, I go out of my way, often 40 minutes, to come here when I am in Queens dropping off my kids. As someone who does not eat cheeseburgers, receiving that order was both frustrating and avoidable with basic attention to detail. I truly hope the new management takes steps to improve both service and communication moving forward. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I will not be returning. This is coming from a person that has been coming to this place for years. It's sad.

Generally the slices are nice and thick and there's plenty of rice, but when I ordered this as take out, they gave me much less rice which I didn't expect. I'd also say that they're happy hour is very generous and they have a decent variety of drinks like plum wine and beers. This place can get very busy and it can be difficult to flag down staff. It would be nice if they had one of those buzzing buttons that you could use to call the staff. Overall, still my favorite place to eat at in person. Vibe is casual and looks like there's a lot of repeat customers which is good

My wife had heard good things and we had been craving sushi for a while, so we took a stroll over and gave it a shot. I went with my usual order -- a spider roll and spicy tuna -- and both were solid. I tried a third roll as well but honestly cannot remember what it was, and it did not leave much of an impression either way. The first two though were good enough to bring me back. The highlight of the visit was honestly our server. She was cool, spunky, and had a great sense of humor. We ended up laughing and joking around with her throughout the meal, which added a lot to the overall experience. Pleasant visit all around. We will be back.
