    Order up!

Most people have probably encountered Sarku Japan at the food court of their local shopping mall by a roaming person handing out samples of their teriyaki chicken on a toothpick. I miss that practice now that it was curtailed during Covid because it was a free tasty treat and it usually roped us in to order from them. You would stand in line and follow your tray as you watched your food being prepared. You don't get that experience at this stand alone restaurant in Jamaica because it's more of a traditional order-at-the-counter fastfood joint, but they do make your food fresh to order in the kitchen behind the counter. Their main bread & butter dish is of course, the Teriyaki Chicken, marinated dark meat chicken chunks cooked on the steel flattop grill and slathered in sweet, thick teriyaki sauce. You can get this with shrimp also or even extra chicken (+$2) if you're really hangry. It comes with the options of white rice, fried rice or noodles and some mixed vegetables. A small cup of teriyaki sauce is integrated into the container cover for you to drizzle onto your chicken at your leisure. Beef is also an alternate protein. You can get any dish as a bento box that's +$2 and it comes with 3 gyoza, 4 pcs California roll & salad, but the main dish will be smaller. Other fast food sushi is also available that I would ordinarily stay away from, but the California roll was not too shabby.

Came in on a Friday afternoon to get a quick lunch. The lines moved fast and it was clean inside. I liked the food but it is only teriyaki flavor served. I wish there more selections like they do in the mall but it is okay. I order the shrimp & chicken with the fried rice. It was good.

Good Japanese food in Jamaica queens, they give you really good portions of chicken teriyaki with the fried rice.you don't have to ask them to put more meat on your plate it comes pretty packed on. Both the chicken and rice have a good taste to it. I don't have alot of Japanese restaurants that I order from or go to,but I have to admit me and wife enjoy sarku japan. And will definitely order from this restaurant again.

I hate to bring down a mom 'n' pop shop, but this place isn't very good. It's also kinda pricey for Forest Hills and for the quality you get. Sigh. The best dishes we got were the Oxtail Croquettes and the Crispy Salmon. Things started going downhill at the pretty but bizarrely flavored Forest Hills Roll, which inexplicably pairs salmon, tobiko, orange, chives, avocado sauce, and teriyaki mayo. I appreciate a creative/fusion roll, but salmon and orange should never, ever exist on the same plate. Ever. The worst item we got was the Chicken Udon. I'm not sure how aany Asian restaurant could mess up such a staple dish, but in Daikon's case, it's because they used Japanese SOUP udon, not stir-fry udon. As soon as the plate was set, I could tell it was the wrong type of udon, and the udon was massively overcooked. Yes, there are different types of udon and they are meant to be cooked in different ways. They are identifiable by their shapes, storage needs and preparation needs, a memo Daikon clearly missed. Points for loading the dish with veggies, but eating them within the soggy mess of udon was just unpleasant.

We had to press the button on the wall in order to get a server to come bring us waters and an extra place setting. That said, we were 5 people squished into a four person booth so I don't know if this place is great for groups. The food came quickly but was delicious and really good. We tried a bunch of ramens and they were all delicious. I tried the omarice, and it was good, but the glaze lacked flavor. I feel like it would be better to go with their curry sauce. Overall, a decent place for ramen, but not going to seek coming out here.
