I ordered through DoorDash tonight and JUST picked up my food. My order consisted of all hand rolls. When I got to my car I wanted to make sure I got everything I ordered. I open up the bag to see they gave me all regular rolls. My receipt says " hand roll please" because on the menu it's there as an option. They have my phone number so I don't understand why they couldn't have called me to let me know that they don't do hand rolls anymore. I got a subpar apology and I'm truly disappointed especially since this is my first experience coming here. i ordered a pickup order on doordash and the store accepted the order, took my money then tried to charge me $20 after i only paid $8 for 6 pieces of salmon sashimi. on doordash, it's $2.75 for 2 pieces of sashimi. i ordered from this exact sakura last night and the sashimi was $2, now it is $2.75, regardless of anything it should not have been $5 for 2 slivers of salmon. now i have no money and won't be going back to this sakura. read more

Ordering - can't get any easier than this Delivery Person- the most polite delivery guy ever delivery - late... customer service - called to check status of order. was put on hold for 2minutes and 58 seconds. then some guy picked up the phone and said "yes yes yes???? sakura japan." so i respond by saying "i would like to check the status of my order." he respond with "yeah yeah it's on the way!" and hangs up. notice anything? didn't ask for my name. didn't ask for number. didn't ask for order. i didn't call with the number that is attached to my account, so... how does he know what my order is? the food - i ordered a Beef Bento Box and Salmon Roll, Spicy Salmon Roll and Alaska Roll Combo. Hit or Miss is how I would describe this place best. Sometimes the sushi here is Damned good (for a take out dive) and sometimes it tastes very bland and loveless. The teriyaki here is always decent and sometimes excellent. I usually get Teriyaki shrimp with chicken over noodles. Add mushroom and extra sauce. It's always a win, to be honest even if does ring up to about $11. Can't recall many times where it was the teriyaki options that left me somber. They have quite a few options. Bento boxes are pretty decent boasting the same things as all other bento boxes worldwide. White rice, miso soup, California roll or dumplings. Get the dumplings. Beats the crappy California roll and So good! They can be quite pricey too. It adds up pretty quickly. My favorite roll is definitely the EMT roll. Shrimp tempura, avocado, covered with crab with a spicy sauce and eel sauce. Dee-Lish-Us!!! When it's made properly. The older guy there makes it with much more care and love then the younger guy who carelessly throws it all together. You can literally taste the carelessness. The teriyaki chef is ALWAYS on point and really friendly. I tip him often since he doesn't charge me for extra sauce. :) read more

From the Moment I place my order the lady was rude and agitated. Customer service receives a ZERO. I ordered chicken and vegetables and this was what I received. The food had a funny smell and the chicken felt like pure rubber. The vegetables were over cooked and appeared to be old. They're serving old food to the black Community and have no concern about food presentation. On a scale from 1-10 i give them a ZERO. Normally I wouldn't come back to update my order but I felt like this should be stated. I order from Sakura Japan at least once a week or so and order the same thing: Edamame and Bubble Tea - granted it isn't the best but it is good enough for the price. I normally use grub hub since it helps with tracking my order. I thought everything was fine but on this particular evening I found a caterpillar inside one of the edamame pods. At this point I called the restaurant to ask for a refund. I immediately asked to speak to a manager after being asked "Who are you, what do you want?" Ive never called the store directly so I'm not sure if I called on a bad night or if they are always as rude. They told me that I could either come physically and get a refund (I ordered delivery), pay the delivery driver to come back or call grubhub. Naturally I chose the latter. Grubhub was very nice and even gave me a credit along with my refund to order elsewhere. I come to this place often enough that I have not left a review because it's always been good. So I am giving warning to all who come and actually order sushi to not (at least the cooked ones). I returned today after having a burnt roll a few weeks ago so this time I decided to actually watch the new person who makes the rolls. He cuts them before actually using the flame which causes pieces next to them to become char and it tastes literally disgusting. I asked them to remake it and explained if he could cook the salmon before cutting the toll that would deter the problem of burning every piece. He said no. He would not remake the roll. They gave me a refund but I definitely won't return to this one since he does not know how to make sushi and his attitude is terrible. read more

I ordered tofu teriyaki Saturday night.. 1- it took them about 30 mins to bring out the tofu.. but it's not cooked yet.. waits another 5-10 mins 2- then I found out they don't have a separate grill for vegans/vegetarians so the chef proceeds to scrape the grease and leftovers of stir fried shrimp, beef, and chicken off the grill.. and then adds my tofu.. o.O?! 3- so now my food has been dipped in chicken grease but I'm too hungry to complain.. The food is alright. Your standard Asian takeout/delivery food. The delivery service, however, has been repeatedly disappointing. It took them almost two hours to deliver my food (and I'm only 1 mile away), not only that, the driver had me come pick up the food downstairs and outside my apartment, claiming that he is "very busy." If I'm ordering delivery it is because I don't want to cook or go outside! And why pay for delivery plus tip for this kind of service? Then of course, when it came to the food itself, it was almost cold already, I had to microwave it myself. Not only that, I ordered two spring rolls and only got one, which is just fine because it is extremely greasy and stale. Too bad there aren't too many delivery options in the area. I can't even lie. I haven't been to any other Japanese place in New Jersey. So I have nothing else to compare it to. But this place gets four stars. They have four different Sushi specials upon walking in my favorite among them was the EMT. The Mt had crab shrimp tempura and avocado on the flavors all go well. The only reason why this place doesn't get 5 stars is because in its title it's called teriyaki. Me and my kids had the chicken teriyaki and it was well under seasons and the teriyaki sauce was in his sweet as it should have been. Hey guys seriously add salt. I will never order from this place again! The food is nice but the delivery person makes me really mad! At first I try to give a 20% tip and he said is not enough. He said that the delivery fee ($2) is taken by his boss and forced me to give him more money. I have to go back to my bedroom and find cash just for him. I would have given Sakura more stars if I didn't spend the amount of money I do there and when I spoke to the girl on the phone last Thursday and asked for a substitution for a Miso soup instead of a salad for my Bento Box she had the BIGGEST ATTITUDE ever. Girl that soup isn't coming out of your check I swear!!! I was actually going to purchase it separately (I asked a simple question "most places will substitute soup for salad") in which her reply was "well that isn't our policy her and we don't do that" an tells me to hold and I wind up getting more noodles. The only Sushi place in East Orange, and probably the best in a five mile radius. The Sushi is really amazing, soft shell crab with avacodo and eel sauce is my favorite. Very clean, friendly service and the prices are reasonable. Not to mention, they serve bubble tea, tapioca or mixed jelly! I have been ordering from this place fr about a year. They have two locations, one in Newark and one in East Orange. The one in Newark takes forever to get your food, and usually when you get your food something is wrong. They always fix the problem, and throw in something free for the trouble. Now that I no longer work in Newark. My family and I go to the one in East Orange. The food has always been good. The guy that makes the sushi is really good and he makes a lot of small talk with us, and gives us samples of some new things to try while we wait on our food. One particular night I ordered from them and I got my food in a decent time. I didn't see my smoothie so I asked the delivery man where my drink was he said it was in the bag. Now there was a cup in the bag, but I later found out that the cup was actually soup. So I called back to the place and the cashier said she would call them back. Now this particular thing that I ordered, I've never ordered before. What i usually get comes with soup. So while I waited for the deliver men(there was two men in the delivery car) come back I opened the food. I realized that this may not be what I ordered so i stopped. My phone rang and the deliver guy says "sorry I did forget your drink....you didn't start eating did you", I told hime that I touched the food he said "oh well we're outside". I bag up the food I didn't touch and threw away the food I did. When i got outside I explained to the guy what I did touch and threw away and I gave him the remaining food. He gave me my drink and we swopped meals. The guy that was in the car with him was mouthing off saying that I knew that that wasn't my food and I shouldn't have touched it but whatever and he drove off. When I opened the food I realized that once again this is not what I ordered. So I called back, and talked to the cashier, she said that she messed up the order and she said she was going to call the delivery drivers back. Five minutes later she called me back and asked me if I payed by card, or cash. I told her I paid by card, and she refunded me my money. I sat and waited thinking the drivers were coming back, because I don't eat tofu, never have, and probably never will. Fifteen minutes go by and I call them back to check and see if the guys were coming back, the lady said no then the delivery guy picks up the phone yelling. He's like "Yo! How you going to eat up someone else's food, and then ask for a refund, we gave you food" he was real rude and nasty, and cursing. Then he proceeds to tell me he'll never deliver to me again and hung up on me. I went back up to the store to return the food and drink that was delivered to me, went off on the delivery guy, and the manager was just looking in shock. I just recently moved to Irvington and have a hard time finding a sushi place that delivers to me. Well, I found this place and the food is okay. The bubble tea is good too. Today I called to place my order, instead of placing it online as I usually do and the experience went down hill. For starters, a female answered but she then put me on hold immediately (perhaps they were too busy, understandable) but then a guy picked up a few minutes after only to disappoint me in saying that they don't deliver to my area. I've ordered from them 3 times already! It's obvious he just didn't want to deal my order. Or at least that is how he made me feel. That was the end to my experience. I just placed the order online and it went through successfully, SMH! I gave the restaurant 3 starts because the food is good, and they have a good variety of teas, though it isn't spectacular. They delivery in a timely manner, for the most part. Their teriyaki chicken is honestly not the best. Still looking for a better Japanese cuisine that delivers!
