I have been craving this spot for a while, this is the first location I've ever been to. I treated myself on Mother's Day, it was very busy as to be expected. I order my food to go $29 for shrimp and scallops hibachi, along with the side salad and soup. This place is not the same, again it was busy but the food quality was off, as well as the quantity, the veggies in the rice was still hard and crunchy, the chicken because my order was wrong so I received chicken in my order which tasted freeze dried very funky texture to the meat as well as the scallops tasted very fishy so overall not good definitely not like it use to be not going back may try new spots. read more

I truly try to support the restaurants in PG COUNTY. But, last night, I was very disappointed with my experience. I came with a party of 6 and we were seated immediately. I was expecting a traditional Japanese experience. The issue is the food quality, experience, and environment was horrible. First, the tables were sticky. The soup was so bland . The salad was soggy. Then, our hibachi guy was so not interactive or even Japanese. He didn't do any tricks for the table or engage us. I ordered lobster and Shrimp and the seasoning was off. I also ordered a frozen strawberry Hennessy and my drink was so watery. They also automatically put a tip of at least 18% for a party of 6. The service was trash. I planned a group celebration for about 20 of us, because of the amount of people we were split up into 2 separate tables right beside each other with 2 separate chefs. I'm giving a 2 star because the chef/cook never said one word to us. He did not engage with us all. There was no tricks or anything. We chose this restaurant for the engagement because this establishment is big on engaging with customers. The ladies at front were very helpful and the waitress who took our orders were very accommodating. We were very disappointed with the engagement part but we still made the best of it by engaging with each other. The food was good. I will not be returning again. I gave this place another try a week ago dining in with a friend. The waitress nails were extremely long and did not look very sanitary so I looked over that. She was only handling the drinks which it took us to flag down the host to bring refills after she took our orders. She vanished and almost never came back. Gotta say, you can't really beat value here. My girlfriend and I ordered chicken and steak hibachi. We didn't wait too long until the chef came out. I was pretty disappointed in the chef, as he didn't perform any tricks that you typically see at hibachi tables, especially when there's an automatic 18% tip included in your bill. The food however, was cooked to my liking. As I mentioned, the value here is phenomenal, with portions enough for 1.5 - 2 people per hibachi entree. The service was alright. The ambiance was ok. The price was kind of reasonable. I hate leaving establishments with a bad taste in my mouth and empty stomach. Veiwers this is the first time in history that this has ever happened to me. I came to this hibachi place and the cook was not engaged nor did he attempt to make the patrons feel welcome, or stomach wowed the patrons with his cooking skills. While waiting for the table to be filled, we had out mushroom soup and salad- the mushroom soup broth was surprisingly flavorful and delicious. Our chef came and began to prepare the food- none of the thrill that you usually expecy from hibachi, but from the beginning, serving sizes were ridiculous. Lots of fried rice for everyone to go around, and vegetables too. When he began to cook the meat entrees, I couldn't quite believe my eyes- each portion was certainly enough for two people. My boyfriend got the NY strip and I got the teriyaki chicken, and both were super flavorful (on top of the white sauce which is delicious as well), and everyone walked out with plenty of leftovers. A somewhat bizzare experience, as our seat neighbours were all certainly interesting, and our chef was quite matter of fact for the most part (but randomly trolled us once). The food was good. Upon going there I had placed an order and with my order they had notified me that there would be and up charge for a food modification. I was ok with that over the phone. I get there and then the bill comes and I see they slapped gratuity. I did not know they did this and I wish they would have stated this for carry out. It's not what it used to be. I was looking for Japanese Hibachi that is better than say Quickway Hibachi or Hibachi that you find in the mall. Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed. 1) When placing my order, I stated twice that I did not want eggs in my fried rice. When I received my order, I had egg in my rice. Given that it was a pick up order, it was not worth the hassle to drive back and pick up rice. So, I had to cook my own rice as I have an allergy to egg. 2) For $30, the shrimp and steak entrees only come with six small shrimp. 3) The veggies and shrimp/steak were over cooked. The food did not taste fresh. 4) Why charge a mandatory 15% service charge, if you can't get the order right? Highly disappointed. Not worth the money! Fun time at Sakura tonight for my wife's birthday. Because some of us had shrimp allergies, they started our show with only our party half-filled a table Juan was a talented and funny chef and it was a very delicious and entertaining meal. It fun watching the expressions on the faces of the kids nearby every time a huge flame shot up from their table. Our server was fantastic contrary to the older negative reviews mentioning servers. This location used to be my favorite restaurant. Not anymore. The quality has gone down. Getting sauce with takeout is like pulling teeth and the food has little flavor. The people there are nice and they give a decent amount of food. I may try eating in to see if the flavor is good but it won't be anytime soon. The "yum yum" sauce doesn't even taste the same. Amazing experience! I came here for my birthday dinner with my mother. We came around 5 so it was not packed and we were seated immediately. Our waitress got us drinks while I explained the concept of the restaurant to my confused mother. The wait for our chef was a bit long but we had soup and salad while we waited. Our chef Tony was great. No accidents or anything and was showy without being over the top. The food was amazing and we had more than enough to take home. I felt compelled to write about this place, not because the food was horrible- we never got to that point. It was a beautiful Saturday morning, the wife and I were out for a jaunt and decided we wanted hibachi; being in Bowie at the time we decided hey, there's a place we haven't tried- lets give them a go. Cool, right? Not so much. We walked in, it was dark- not a huge deal, but they were like a Mr. Popeil commercial- they sat us and then completely forgot us. We must've sat there for nearly 10 minutes; it doesn't sound like much until you have to do it- 10 minutes, zero service. To make matters worse, the hibachi table we were seated at was STILL FREAKING DIRTY. The place had only been open a half hour and the grill table was cold so it stood to reason those crumbs were from yesterday's service. That was basically the straw that broke the camel's back- the wife was already miffed at having sat there for 10 minutes w/out a single server coming by to see what we wanted. This story ends on a good note, however- it was on this very same day that we discovered Grace's Fortune and shortly after that a new Grace's had opened up down the street with- you guessed it- hibachi style cuisine; in a much nicer establishment. Since we'd found Grace's, we never got around to giving this place another try- judging from the reviews I've read, I made the right choice. You do the same- there's absolutely no reason to eat here; if you want hibachi, there's a Grace's approximately 5 miles down the road; if you want good chinese, the Grace's Fortune that is in the same shopping center as this place is the better choice. read more

The food was horrible. The cook didn't season the food good and burned the shrimp. I ordered the kids shrimp and she received 5 burned shrimp and nothing else. Never been to the Bowie location, come to find out they charge a party of 2 18% service fee they don't tell you this you just find it on the bill. I found this confusing so I called and asked how much what I ordered would be if I came in Abe it went from $91 for 2 people to the same order becoming $102 for two people! I recommend driving another 15 mins down the road to Annapolis where they don't screw you, and you can get a better experience, a cleaner restaurant, and a more authentic experience with less money spent for the same food!!! Located in a strip mall with Giant grocery store, IHOP and a host of other establishments. Service is average and there can be a long wait for seating during peak times. Food is generally average. There is a tendency to overcook their food, which leads to a charred sort of taste. Sakura is a cheaper option than Kobe's but the quality is definitely lower. read more

3/17/2019 We'd had a beautiful day at National Harbor, but wanted to dine closer to home. We walked in to Sakura in Free State Shopping Center on Annapolis Road in Bowie, Maryland. My husband walked up to the counter where an older gray headed Asian man was busy tapping a money counter. The guy didn't acknowledge him. I stood near where a couple was waiting, then glanced out of the window at my son walking from the parking lot. As he joined me, I turned my attention back to my husband, who was still waiting. The guy was still tapping away. My husband, who isn't known for his patience, then said "I take it you're not the host. " I saw the man look up, and say something, after which my husband turned away with a strained look on his face. I called him over and asked "What did he say?" Essentially he'd asked how many are in your party. So, he was the host! No acknowledgement of customers. No greeting. No respect. Just a healthy dose of to hell with you I'm counting my money. Granted, my husband would have gone off by now, but he knew I'd been searching for a good Japanese restaurant. I asked, "You ready to go?" He replied yes, because he said the hairs were standing up on the back of his neck. We walked out. Don't go here when you could go to Grace's, which is two minutes away. There's a "regular" Grace's next door, but a Japanese style chophouse down the street. The worst part about this place is the service, and this is the type of place that revolves around service, since the guy cooking the food also serves it and I guess is supposed to entertain you at the same time. Well, this guy could use a grill. Meaning he could throw meat on a hot metal surface and wait for it to not be raw anymore. Then he was able to remove the food from the grill and put it on our plates. Serious skill here, give it up for the man. Granted, the food is the primary reason you come here, I know. Maybe I've been spoiled by the guys who know all the tricks and can easily get along with a table full of people, most of whom don't know each other. This dude, on the other hand, talked to one couple the whole time, and the highlight of the conversation was them switching phones to confirm their respective facebook invites. I guess that is somewhat of a talent, being able to cook food and annoy 7 people at once. Did I mention we waited about 30 minutes to be seated and that the food was about average? We went here for a celebration dinner over the weekend and I was really excited to go to a hibachi place without driving into VA and paying an arm and a leg. Well, next time, I'll save my pennies and go to VA. The food was just so-so here though I will say the scallops were excellent. I didn't care for the fact that they put seafood sauce into their fried rice, it gave it this fishy sweet taste that was slightly unpleasant. I went here for my birthday brunch. We were seated promptly. The waitress was very nice. This unfortunately is where the pleasant experience ended. 3 people in my party have mushroom allergies and 1 person just doesn't like them. At every point we made it clear that 3 people had allergies and no mushrooms could touch the utensils or grill until out food was finished. The cook dropped mushrooms on the grill then tried to remove them quickly. We pointed out our allergy and that we needed the grill wiped down and he needed to start again. We were given the worst attitude and told that we probably just didn't like them and we should leave him alone and get over it. I promptly cancelled my order and opted for sushi. Then he again started working with mushrooms with food on the grill that was intended for other members in my party. We asked for the manager and he acted as if he didn't care. Then to top it off it was my birthday and they always offer cake or something, nothing was offered and the check was tossed at us. I have never been made to feel bad about having a food allergy. Bowie is right in the middle of two metro area cities and is often overlooked (unless you need to stop for gas on your way to DC or Annapolis). Suburban developers are starting to change that, however, by building a new mall and renovating old ones. Sakura is in one of the oldest mall strips in Bowie, MD. Encased between a chinese restaurant and a discount clothing store, Sakura draws people in with the sight of friends, families or co-workers sitting around a hot plate as some guy flip and juggle their meals for a good show. Unlike any other non-franchise restaurants in Bowie built before the great suburban renovation, Sakura prides itself to be fancy, and the prices for the food is a strong indication of that. The quality of food and service is so-so. If you're in the area and really hungry, I'd recommend the chinese food place next door. Sakura is a better fit for special occasions and for entertaining people you want to impress. read more
