Loved this place!!! The concept is great. Tapas AYCE just makes sense. It's keeps the food fresh and cuts down on the waste. I'm a noodles and rice type girl so anytime I get to build my own creation, sign me up. So many options from the proteins, to the veggies, to the seasoning and sauces. I followed the advice of our wonderful server, Jose, and started with the appetizers before building my bowl. You can order as much or as little as you want. Everything thing came out fresh and in a timely manner. I really enjoyed my shrimp tempura roll. It might of had the best rice I've ever had (it was just something about it) I had to keep from ordering a second round because I didn't want to fill up before the main attraction. This restaurant is located in the same parking lot of the Jerry's seafood. If you're a sushi or hibachi lover and you're thinking about trying Hungry bowl don't think, just do it. This place is the bomb! It's pretty much a hibachi with an assembly line where you can build your own bowl have it cooked to order and eat all you want. The wait wasn't long on my visit but even if it was I still would've waited because it was worth the wait. Once you're seated you get a tablet with placed on your table where you get to select your appetizers, which are included in your all you can eat option. The waiter only comes for initial drink orders and drink refills everything else you want you order on the tablet and you go to the line to build your bowl. The assembly line has everything you can imagine from and you select everything you want to go into your bowl even down to the seasoning and sauces. Once you build your bowl you give it to the chef's and then you return to your table. Your food will be delivered to your table once it's cooked. The waiter will explain that you will be charged for wasted food which is understandable. That doesn't mean you have to eat every single noodle or piece of rice however you shouldn't make bowls and just discard them for another one, so be sure that you want to eat the bowl you have created. In my second bowl the cook did burn my food which was a blower, but my first bowl was the bomb! Also, someone in my party's bowl got mixed up with someone at another table's bowl, but it was fixed by the waitress who understood since the other party with the mixup stated they had the wrong bowl as well. The bathroom needs some work, in my opinion it's really tight and the stalls sort of force you to turn sideways to exit. I am a big Mongolian Grill fan. I was excited to find Hungry Bowl since it's Mongolian Grill sushi and Korean BBQ. This location is in a old TGI Fridays but they have done a big makeover on it. The walls are black which makes for an interesting dining experience maybe a little too dark for my preference. They didn't explain how everything worked which definitely made it difficult when dining. The server sort of cheesed us to the Mongolian Grill area and I didn't understand what she needed. She eventually walked away. Very strange situation. We came for lunch and went for the fulll buffet experience. We ordered a couple pieces of sushi and Korean barbecue on the iPad. Then went to make our Mongolian Grill and when we came back our sushi was at the table. Super quick service. The sushi was pretty tasty and I enjoyed it. The Korean barbecue was very fatty and hard to eat. I also enjoyed the seaweed salad and crab rangoons. My mongolian Grill bowl arrived pretty quickly and it was decent. However, I felt like some of the ingredients weren't very fresh. For example, they use frozen broccoli instead of fresh broccoli, making my stir-fry a very watery mess. I felt like everything was missing just a little bit to make it an expert experience. One of my life long BFF's just so happens to be Asian and when she said, Spence, let's meet up at the new Asian all-you-can eat spot Hungry Bowl, you know I said yes. She raved about her two prior experiences so this was a no brainer. Formally TGIFridays, the owners did a remarkable renovation job to where you'd never believe this used to be a Friday's! Unlike your typical Korean BBQ, Hungry Bowl does it a bit different. Similar to your normal Korean BBQ you order on a IPad, however, they cook your selections for you and serve them hot and ready to eat. If you like the traditional way of cooking the food yourself, this place may not be for you. My friend may be small in stature but man she can eat.. Lol! She ordered a little bit of everything. We had several sushi selections, Ahi Tuna, grilled shrimp, calamari, shrimp tempora, BBQ salmon and she had a noodle entrée. I'm sure I'm leaving something out but I know I left fat and happy. We went early on a Saturday afternoon. We tried going in the past but the wait was over an hour and I'm not that pressed to wait for food especially when I was hangry at the time. Food was fresh Place was clean Servers visited often to refill drinks and to check in on you. You order extra food items on the iPad that's at your table. Pay close attention to note on the table. There is a charge for leftovers/take out AND even if you don't want to take the leftovers there might be a charge for excessive food waste. We took our leftovers and was charged a little over $8. That's cool because it was a whole meal once I combined my food with my husband's in the container. The young lady mentioned the additional fee: 8.99 per pound. Lucky for me I read the note beforehand so I wasn't surprised. Security was posted up inside the restaurant at the front door. We came to Hungry Bowl in Bowie for my wife's birthday dinner, and I'll say this right away, the Mongolian grill is the star of this place. There are a lot of options when building your bowl. Beef, chicken, shrimp, pork belly, onions, green onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and plenty more. You choose your base like lo mein, udon, rice noodles, white rice, brown rice, or fried rice and build it exactly how you want it. If you like customizing your food, this is definitely your type of spot. It's $29.99 for all you can eat and everything is included. We definitely left satisfied. If you come hungry and plan to try a little of everything, it feels worth it. Be prepared to wait. We had about a 1.5 hour wait and the place was packed. Luckily, it slowed down around the time we were seated, so it felt more manageable once we got inside. The atmosphere is loud and fun. It works for a date night, but it's also perfect for a big group. It's more lively than intimate. For sushi, we ordered the Naruto roll and it was really good. It tasted fresh and clean. The short ribs were decent, and the garlic chicken was solid, but I could have done without them. The Mongolian grill easily carried the experience for me. One thing I was not a fan of is how you leave your bowl on the counter after building it. You just set it there and walk away for the staff to grab. With limited counter space and several trays sitting there, it felt crowded. Even after it slowed down, there were still five or six trays waiting. People behind you end up shifting things around, and I am just not a big fan of walking away from my food while others are standing over it. I can see that area getting backed up quickly during peak hours. The restaurant was pretty clean. We came near the end of the dinner rush, and for that time of night it was still in solid shape. Finally got a chance to head to hungry bowl and it was worth it! Heads up, they do take reservations but I overheard the hostess telling someone over the phone that they need to come in person to make their reservation and place a deposit. Otherwise, if you're willing to wait, you can come and put your name on the waitlist for that day. We came here on a Saturday pretty close to the time they opened and overall the average wait time was anywhere between 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on your size of your party. Food wise, they offer a huge variety between the Mongolian Grill, sushi, and Korean barbecue. My personal favorite was the surf and turf sushi, and the bulgogi. They were very generous with the size of the fish. They served in the sushi rolls, and I also think the garlic shrimp was really good too. I was not too impressed with their appetizers compared to their other offerings. Despite ordering from the tablet, the service was amazing. Shout out to our server, David! He was constantly checking on us, making sure we were taken care of, but not overbearing. The food came out very quick and I would say on average we waited no more than 5 to 7 minutes after placing the order through the tablet. There was a 2-hour table limit and it was perfect timing for my cousin and I. The concept of this restaurant is great, where you have the option to either order your meats, sushi, and appetizers a la carte and/or enter the 'grab & go' section of the establishment to grab your meats, sauces and sides. If you want to see where Bowie comes alive on a weekend, head to Hungry Bowl around lunchtime. We showed up at noon on a Saturday and the place was absolutely packed. Full capacity, buzzing energy, and a quoted 30 minute wait. Thankfully, their system is dialed in. They take your name and number and send you a virtual waitlist link that shows your place in line and estimated time. Our wait ended up being closer to 20 minutes, which felt very reasonable given how busy it was. Once seated, our waiter immediately came over and explained how everything works. Each table gets a tablet to order sushi, Korean BBQ, soups, salads, and apps. You also get a physical table card for the Mongolian grill station. That is where you walk up to a buffet line, load a bowl with raw ingredients, hand it off, and they stir fry it fresh and bring it straight to your table. The tablet menu is extensive. Specialty sushi rolls, bulgogi, Korean short ribs, fried apps, you name it. The Mongolian line is just as impressive with everything from fresh veggies to marinated steak, scallops, and shrimp. The sauce selection alone means no two bowls have to taste the same. We ordered about half a dozen sushi rolls, Korean short rib, bulgogi, and a few fried appetizers before heading to build our Mongolian bowls. By the time we finished at the grill station, our tablet order was already waiting at the table. Wicked fast service, especially for how slammed they were. The fried apps like calamari, shrimp, and katsu were solid but not something I would double up on. The real surprise was the sushi. Generous cuts of fish and some genuinely creative rolls. The surf and turf roll with torched steak over a spicy lobster roll was a standout and something you do not see everywhere. The Korean BBQ was also excellent. The bulgogi in particular was well marinated and delivered tender, savory bites with great umami flavor. When our Mongolian bowls arrived, they were piping hot and perfectly cooked. After finishing an 11 mile run at the gym earlier, this absolutely hit the spot. Overall, Hungry Bowl delivers variety, speed, and quality in a fun, high energy setting. Parking: There is plenty of parking in the lot outside. Wait time: We had to wait a hour to be seated. They gave us link to see where we were in the waitlist. There was some shopping places across very close by, so we were able to go browse there to spend time while watching where we were in line. For the mongolian bbq bowl we went to an another section, where you could build a bowl to put your starch, vegetables, and meats. There were a lot of options, shrimp, squid, fish, zucchini, broccoli, different types of noodles (lots of options). We were able to out our table number down and go back to our table. Everything was brought to us cooked. Everything we tried was really flavorful. And our bill for 2 was around $63. We did want to take some food home and that was an additional $8.99 pound. A steal these days! The selection across the board has something for everyone and also includes desserts. I unfortunately can't remember our waitresses name but she was absolutely top tier! It starts with understanding the process if you've been before, if not they will explain. To help you before you go, you get to order most sushi and apps from the iPad and the server for the rest. You then receive a card which you will place on your tray that gets handed to the cooks after you load up your bowl. This card is reusable to go for seconds. It allows you to check if you want rice/starch options or if you have allergies. You order your apps/sushi and go load up your bowl with all the goods. Noodles, vegetables, meat and poultry. One thing that threw me off which is now understandable but at the end they have seasoning for you to add to your bowl. Salt and pepper, Badia Complete, Badia Cajun, and Badia Lemon Pepper. We went with a mixture of complete and Cajun. After the sauces were also a lot of options, chili sauce, teriyaki, yum yum, soy, spicy chili, and more. A welcomed addition to the growing Bowie food scene and pretty good for Day #2 of being open. Our sever was quick to greet us and give us an overview of the menu, and was very attentive throughout our meal. The sound track seemed to be almost the same as it was when TGI Friday's occupied the building and was a mix of early 2000's R&B. The self serve bar for creating your own Mongolian bowl was well stocked with a variety of fresh vegetables, and meats with a full spice and sauce bar. Each bowl came out perfectly cooked, although they took a while. The BBQ was cooked in the back and brought out to table by our server. The Karaage Chicken was more of a Chicken Katsu rather than what is traditionally referred to as Karaage Chicken. The sushi was okay but was covered in sauce which took away from the flavor. We decided to visit because it was our daughter's last week before heading off to college, so we made it a family outing. I originally learned about this location from an Instagram/TikTok food reviewer who posts videos of restaurants throughout the DMV. One thing to be aware of is that searching for the restaurant on Google Maps brings you to the old TGI Fridays location, which this restaurant now occupies. Overall, the exterior and parking lot could use some updating. The asphalt parking lot has significant crocodile cracking, with weeds growing through several areas. There is also a row of parked Ryder trucks nearby with their refrigerated trailers running, which creates quite a bit of noise. There is also a noticeable typo throughout the restaurant's signage. The exterior, awnings, and the interior sign at the front desk all say "Hungay Bowl," while the menu and presumably the actual name is "Hungry Bowl." There was also active construction taking place inside the restaurant while it was open and operating. Once inside, we were promptly attended to, and I really liked their text-message waitlist system. I simply provided my phone number and received a text with the estimated wait time, followed by another notification when our table was ready. As for the food, I would describe it as okay, but I don't feel it really justifies the $31-per-person buffet price. You have to be somewhat tactical about what you order because some of the dishes are very filling. If you go, I'd recommend arriving hungry and being mindful of the heavier items if you're primarily there for the sushi. We went primarily for the sushi rolls, and I really liked the ordering system. Each table has an iPad where you can place your orders, and the food arrives a little at a time rather than everything being brought out at once. I actually preferred this because it allowed us to pace ourselves and try different things. There weren't many people in the restaurant when we visited, but the food did arrive somewhat slowly. The presentation of the sushi was very good. In terms of quality, however, I'd say the sushi is probably a step below what you'd get at an actual sushi restaurant. You also have to be careful about how much you order because there are signs warning customers about an excessive food-waste fee. At the end of the day, I'd say it was a decent experience, but for us, it really wasn't worth the $31-per-person price. My uncle told me about this place and although I avoid AYCE places, I was open to try this because it isn't a smorgasbord style. There is an AYCE menu, you pick your items and they bring them to your table. The menu is located on an iPad: from appetizers, sushi, Korean bbq, and desserts (ice cream only). You also have an option to create your own hibachi bowl that is cooked for you and brought to your table. I was surprised of the options available from chicken, beef, pork belly, and seafood. They have varying sauces to choose from and you're expected to season your bowl yourself. I enjoyed this idea; although, I found that my bowl was a little salty for my taste. I tried the seaweed salad, beef short ribs (you get one per order), beef bulgogi, shrimp tempura, and various sushi rolls. Overall, I was pleased with everything that I had. The seaweed salad was delicious and the sushi was fresh. I really enjoyed the short ribs, we ordered many of those. There is a limit on how long you can stay (2hrs) and if you choose to take food home it is priced per pound ($8.99). There are some kinks to work out, as at times our orders did not come, and it was a little awkward because I felt that the manager was watching you when there was a lapse in ordering to push tables. New Mongolian BBQ AYCE spot in Bowie. It's not far from DC, so that was a huge plus. If you've been in the DMV in the earlier 2000s you probably remember the Mongolian BBQ near silver spring I think. Think of that when you come here... but elevated in a sense. The entire food menu, including the BBQ is AYCE, and very affordable in my opinion, at $29.99 and more affordable for lunch! Like many of the new AYCE restaurants, you have to walk in a put your name on the wait list. It was SUUUUUUPER busy when we arrived and after putting our name on the list, waited about 45-50 minutes for a table for 2. Pack your patience. What I really like about this place is that when you go up to make your Mongolian bowl, you give it to them and they bring it to you once it's prepared, so no waiting there for it to finish. The toppings all looked fresh and there was a decent variety of noodles, rice, veggies, meats, seafood, seasonings and sauces. There was also a vast menu of sushi to order along with other sides, appetizers etc. They're waiting on their liquor license so the bar is just seating right now but I can imagine it'll be even more popular once that's added. I saw this place featured on IG by a friend of mine. And I figured my son and I would go as he is always sending me places to check out. So we went. First pack your patience. As the wait is worth it but it's a WAIT!! We waited for about an hour. There is no reservation allowed or call ahead. But it was pretty packed. We finally got our table after an hour wait. The waitress came over and explained how to order. She was very nice and respectful. And the ambiance is cute cute. They have a bar tabletop where you can order food. The huge grill in the middle of the restaurant where they cooked food was lit. I mean they had about 3-4 cooks there. They were cooking like up to 10 bowls at a time. It was amazing. So the waitress gave us an iPad to order our food on. And explained how the process works. We ordered sushi to start. Then went to the grill. The grill bar had all the fresh trimmings of meat and produce. There were a lot of options . And then the sauces and spices. I was blown away because it was so many of them. The bowl I created was overflowing but it did cook down lol. My son was full and satisfied. We will return again. If you are in the Bowie area check them out. I came here for lunch. We arrived when they first opened so it wasn't very busy. The staff were friendly. Our waitress too her time to explain the menu and how everything worked. It was a nice chill atmosphere. We ordered sushi and preceded to the station where you pick the items you like in a bowl and the chefs cook it for you. What I loved about it was the variety. There were so many choices. There is something for everyone. If you have allergies they ask that you let them know. After you get your veggies and protein you have a large array of sauces and seasonings. I appreciate the option of being able to taste the sauce to see if you like them. They have all kinds of seasonings from lemon Pepper to Montreal steak seasoning. After you make you bowl you then had a seat and they will bring your food to you. My bowl as delicious and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. Lunch was under $25 for all you can eat. Even with just one bowl and our sushi I definitely got my moneys worth. I will return. Fun and full is how I can explain this new establishment. Everything was explained to me on how things work and from there I was full full full. A buffet that allows you to dictate how you eat. You get in line and then go around and pick what you want. I started off with raw vegetables, and then you pick raw meat from beef, chicken, and so forth. Then you season your food and pick the type of rice you would like. Then you leave it there and they cook it on a round platform. Afterwards they bring it to you. Took my daughters to the restaurant around Valentine's day, this year (2026). Very small on the inside. I expected it to be bigger. You have to walk back and forth to get your food cooked by the chefs, etc. That was very uncomfortable because of the space. Didn't like that at all. Cool concept but I wasn't impressed with the food or the environment. The service was ok. Way too small for me, especially with everything going on. My daughters liked it but I've had much better service, ambiance, and food. read more
