I've ate here a couple times and most recently I tried after a day of hiking, but they were closing in 30 minutes and I hate doing that to the staff. Anyways, the last time I ate here was after a long day of hiking at Seneca Rocks and Spruce Knob and I ordered the Sakura Boat for me and my friend. We both enjoyed it thoroughly, but me more than here because I can never get enough sushi when I'm having a pescatarian day. Mmm! The staff is always helping, pleasant, and kind. All of the sushi we ordered was really tasty and fresh! Sometimes there is too much sauce on their rolls, but they were perfect this time. One complaint - the wasabi is not hot whatsoever! Please figure out a way to get hot wasabi! read more

Our family loved the food and service we received last night here. We started with crispy calamari ( fresh squid fried in a light tempura batter) . It came out perfectly cooked with a side of sweet chili sauce. We also got a round of assorted nigiri and rolls rolls and they came out impressively large, fresh tasting wonderfully presented. We finished up with orders of hibachi dinners of shrimp, scallops, salmon duck, steak and chicken. These came out with tasty soup, fresh gingery salad, fried rice and sauté vegetables. Fantastic prices for very good dinners. We were stuffed with some take out for tomorrow. The restaurant needs a real decor update but the food,value, and service makes it a gem. read more

Worst example of hibachi ever. I ordered filet mignons and it was the toughest piece of steal ever. Wife ordered shrimp hibachi and they're over cooked. Sushi was good. I was worried about freshness of the fish but they did not disappoint. read more

Bad and foul tasting sushi!!! Don't waist your money!!! I am giving it 1 star because the service wasn't bad. Although, they only had 2 other tables while we were there so I don't know how they couldn't provide decent service. I had the lunch hibachi special and it wasn't bad. For the 1 star. But, I ordered some sushi to go to take home for my dinner for myself and a friend. And the the sushi was foul, extremely fishy tasting and greasy, containing mostly of rice. 3 rolls were off the lunch menu, so I guess that's the reason for mostly rice. But the rice tasted old or maybe the unappealing taste of the tuna just threw the entire roll off. I ordered 3 rolls from the lunch menu and 1 dinner roll. I tried 1 of each of the rolls. In hopes one of them would be okay. But each roll was even more disappointing than the previous. Very disappointing for the cost and after the fact, I was a bit sick from the horrible and foul taste. Personally, I would never order sushi from there again. I would love to give them another chance considering they are the only sushi game in town. But, it's hard to after that experience and spending over $50 to just throw my food in the trash. What a waist of money. Makes me sick to waist money on food that I have to throw in the trash. Honestly deserves no stars. Go to El Grand Sabor if they are open! Only reason I went to this place was because El Grand Sabor wasn't open on the day I was in Elkins. read more

We've had sushi all over the world and although it is not Seattle's Pike Place market for obvious reasons, it ranks up there for us because of the consistent quality. So first off, the food is a bit worse than ok. My wife and I eat a great deal of Japanese food (yes yes I know its Americanized but so is everything else..stop being pretentious you jerk) and the sushi (screw you snobby ass who is yelling sashimi) was just ok..nothing great. Our hibachi chicken dish was just bland (how is that possible? they have salty things everywhere!). But the primary reason I gave the restaurant two starts is because the service is sub par. We got there and just waited at our table for 10 minutes until a server came. I mean the place isn't that big and there were three servers who all ignored us. Even my wife who was a waitress for a very long tine and is a defender of all things serving was getting really really really annoyed. That pretty much set the tone for service for the rest of the evening. Some highlights: 1. I asked another waitress for Splenda for my coffee. Without saying anything, she backed away and disappeared (like how Homer backs up into bushes on the Simpsons..seriously..look it up..its spot on) 2. Another person at our table asked for dessert and he got sushi with mango slice on it. I'm not sure if that's a thing but it wasn't explained at all so he was just flabbergasted. 3. I had to ask for yum yum sauce. Why isn't that option just given? In fact, no choice were given to us for sauces sans the soy that was already on the table. 4. Our waitress, while very pleasant and smiling, rarely came to check on us, so much so that I started rationing water. 5. We ordered sushi and some of it came out ahead of time like a normal experience and some of it came with our main entree. 6. After waiting that 10 minutes, the server didn't even apologize for making us just sit there. Seriously, a simple apology would have helped so much. Maybe we just went on an off night. We're from out of town and come in occasionally but I do not ever want to come back here. You're better off, and I can't believe these words are being written, going to Applebees. No no..I take that back. Nobody should have to endure that garbage, especially how bad it is in Elkins. Seriously though, fire up your grill if you have one at home and put soy sauce on chicken, it'll taste eleventy billion percent better than what we had at Sakura. read more

I'm from out of town and was looking for sushi. Sakura was close to our hotel, so we decided to go for it despite being nervous after reading the reviews. I'm so glad we did. I didn't have any issues at all with the service, even though there was a significant language barrier, and the sushi was some of the best I've had. The fish was fresh and delicious - everything was wonderful. The house dressing on the salad had a touch of lemon along with the ginger that was delightful and the miso soup was super. Visited for lunch on a Sunday. While they have hibachi, they do not grill in front of you. We had hoped to order off the lunch menu but they don't serve that on Sundays. Understandable. Two of us ordered the hibachi dinners which came with soup, salad, rice, and vegetables. The serving size was smaller than other hibachi meals I've had. The shrimp was slightly over cooked. The soup was flavorless and the salad wasn't very tasty. My brother ordered chicken Yaki Soba and seemed to enjoy that. I also ordered the spicy shrimp roll. It was delicious, but it was a very very small roll with only 4 pieces. Other than being small, it was my favorite part of the meal. Our waitress was very good. I highly recommend the sushi. It was very fresh. The hibachi meals left some to be desired. $54 for a party of 3. read more

This place is kind of hit or miss. For the area it is pretty good. My food was great but the service was not very good. I don't even think I got a refill more than once. My dad ordered hot tea and they only brought a small thing of hot water as a refill. The food was fantastic. I ordered the hibachi steak and scallop and volcano sushi. They brought the plate out with a flaming soy and volcano sauce mixture. It was delicious and wonderful on the eyes! I am rating based on how the food tasted. BAD SUSHI, greasy fish? The fish had oil like residue, I think the spiciness was hot sauce, and I couldn't tell the difference between salmon and tuna (and I eat a lot of sushi). And green tea was $2 and lipton brand... Thankfully I did not get sick, but won't go back. read more

Well, I thought I'd try a few rolls for the lunch special (3 rolls for $11, includes small salad.) Spicy Salmon Roll, Peanut Avacado Roll and Boston Roll. Boston Roll was served with Mayo on top. The other two had something very chewy in them, the wrapper, I guess? Not very appetizing. Not ready to write off the whole menu, and maybe the special rolls are better. Don't think there are any other sushi places in town, so I'll try again..., but be warned of the weird chewiness! read more

One of the only places locally that serves sushi. The food is basic and OK, nothing to write home about. I enjoy getting the bento box with teriyaki chicken. There is some kind of deep-fried dumpling filled with cream cheese that seems totally weird and yet strangely...delicious. Good service and clean. read more

This place is an oasis in the culinary desert that is Elkins, WV. The sushi is standard, which is exactly what I hope for when ordering raw fish - I don't need or want avant garde combinations; I just want fresh and tasty, and Sakura can do that. The service is friendly as well. read more

On a recent trip to this restaurant, my wife and I ordered our usual assortment of sushi rolls. The experience wasn't anywhere near as good as it had been in the past. None of the sushi tasted bad or not fresh. However, the rolls all shared an unappetizing quality of chewiness. I don't know if it was the cuts of fish or the seaweed wrapper, but everything required more chewing than is typical of sushi. Also, the rolls didn't seem to have much flavor, even with the addition of wasabi and soy sauce. Hopefully, it was just an off day for them. However, we have not been back since, and our alternatives are cheaper anyway. read more

I'd been wanting to try this place since it opened...I finally went tonight and I was not disappointed. The decor leaves something to be desired; some wall art other than pictures of their sushi specials on poster boards would be a good start. That was weird. But the food was good. I got the hibachi chicken dinner and a salmon roll. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the fried rice was some of the best I've ever had. And for $9, you get a lot of food in that dinner...soup and salad, a generous portion of chicken and vegetables, and fried rice. The salmon roll was really good, too. Nice and fresh. I'm glad Elkins has a good place to get sushi. I will definitely return. read more
