This has become our go-to place for sushi and Hibachi. The restaurant is nestled in a s Foodland shopping center near a great outdoor mall in Kapolei. The restaurant has a large section with Hibachi tables and a smaller back area for dine-in sushi. They are normally not too busy and we can get seated almost right away. The Hibachi is a lot of fun. The food is delicious and the cooks are entertaining and personable. The portions are large and everything has been delicious. The sushi area is a little more quiet and the service is fast. We ordered the largest sushi boat (about $100+) to share among 4 people and it was a perfect amount of food. The rolls were delicious and the fish was very fresh. We have also enjoyed a variety of drinks including the house sake. They are appropriately priced. I recommend trying them. They are worth the drive. read more

It was like a more mama papa owned lower quality Tanaka of Tokyo but more reasonably priced. They do the fanfare of a typical teppanyaki restaurant. Flames that make you worry about losing your eyebrows and hair igniting because of too much hairspray. Flying food you have to catch in your mouth. Generous food portions. Good seasoning. Friendly staff. Almost obnoxiously friendly, but it a part of the showmanship that is teppanyaki. Lots of parking at it is in the mall. We had a long day and didn't feel like sitting in the loud dining room but the energy was bustling! Portions were plenty, fish was fresh, and service was great. They were very busy as it was Father's Day evening but we were able to sit outside by the fountain and enjoy our dinner. Try the appetizer jalapeño yellowtail! Went for a birthday dinner with the girls. I've heard that this place can be a lot of fun which is needed in this pandemic. We had a reservation for 16 and couples were spread out around two grills. It took awhile for our drinks to come out and the first specialty drink was made incorrectly. They quickly rectified that without a problem. The cooks come out with a boo box on his cart which sets the mood for the hilarity to come. Mind you, only one chef does this, for what I observed through the night. The food was typical, delicious and the sushi platters were great. Party ambiance even in the closed off room. Definitely recommend this location for an upbeat dinner. Man!! We were all really excited to try this place out. First off-- WOW is it busy. I called a week prior to make reservations, and was told to just walk it. At that time, I only had 4 in my party, and reservations considered start at parties of 5. Unfortunately, by the time we had our fifth guest confirm, we were told over the phone (again, a week prior) that the reservations were full. Upon arriving last night (Friday), we were told our party would have to wait 30-60 mins for a table. No preference inside or out. Ended up waiting over an hour. Just a tip-- if you are hotter blooded-- SIT OUT ON THE PATIO!!!! It was HOT inside. No ceiling fans or AC that we noticed. We were seated by the sushi bar, toward the back of the restaurant. No one wanted to do the teppanyaki side anyways, so we thought this booth would be perfect. Whew! We were perspiring the entire time. Outside weather was rainy and cold, so we all wore what we thought was suitable for the cozy weather. Definitely a bad idea. Haha! I only laugh now cuz I'm out of that place. Anyways, our SERVER was great. Funny, young guy who was a good sport with our "we think we're funny, but close to midlife crisis" crowd. Lol. He was hustling, you could see. Just wasn't that AWARE of the service aspect of things. For example, we got our first round of appetizers before we even got a napkin or a single plate or utensil. Being that we were all dripping from the heat, napkins were close to an emergency for us makeup wearing females. Everything took lonnnggg... The food and drinks arrived in more than 25-30 min intervals, which was sort of a frustration. Being that our server was so busy, we were having to do the hunt down to get our next orders in shortly after receiving the previous rounds. Plates and chopsticks arrived after our food and drinks, but no napkins. We had to request each and every thing. Luckily, we were kept amused by the loud, party atmosphere of the teppan side of the restaurant. The chefs were blasting booty music and setting their hats on fire! One was shooting liquids into guests mouths; I'm assuming that was sake? Lol it looked fun on their side! Definitely for the rowdier crowd. There's much more I could add to the reason of 3 stars, but our server and his kind, hospitable nature is the only reason it's not 2 stars. The food was just... okay. Pretty saucy, which could be our own fault in ordering. Food wasn't hot upon arrival and the tempura in the rolls seemed very premade. No heat or crunch. Was sort of a stale batter? Lastly, there were only 5 of us and 18% gratuity was added. Just be cautious of your check! I would surely try this place out again, but maybe not on a Friday night. We came here a couple of times. We have always sat around the grill! I love bringing the kids here because it is such a fun experience for them. This place is located near foodland farms at Ka Makana Alii. I believe they take walk ins, but seriously just go on yelp and reserve! It makes it super easy. There is ample parking, but it does get filled quick on busy nights. How can I describe this in 1 sentence? Its dinner and a show. You are part of it when you sit at the grill!! I love watching the chefs showcase there talent. You can tell they are comfortable and personable during the experience. We have laughed to the point of tears because of the great conversations and tricks from the chefs. At the end you get this great meal! I love the yummy food and the great price. I really like this place! I already returned a second time! They have really great service and I'm so glad we have this kind of place in Kapolei now! This kind of restaurant is always great for special occasions and you can choose to sit in a regular seat away from the chef cooking in front of you. I came with my family of 4 for dinner and another time for lunch with my parents. Very attentive customer service and it is safe here as they follow the precautions of social distance seating, temp checks, masks, have outdoor seating available, & they clean/disinfect between customers. For lunch & another time for dinner I ordered the steak and shrimp teppanyaki like what the chef would cook in front of you. Both times I came we did not sit in front of a chef we wanted to sit outside and on our own booth. I ordered that steak and shrimp because it was so good! Even the fried rice is Yumm! In the picture you can see that the steak and shrimp is not the hugest portion but it also includes fried rice and even veggies and noodles! You still get really full from it I'll probably order that same thing when I go back! My family loves sushi so we order different rolls and their sashimi is really fresh and beautifully presented. Everything we ordered was delicious and well presented. (I'm not huge on presentation but this was nice!) We tried three different rolls and were not disappointed. It was horrible. We made reservations but because they only had 2 chefs we had to wait about 40 mins. Then the chef didn't interact with us at all. We sat in silence and even had to look at the other chef because he was doing tricks. Our chef just cooked our food. It was so awkward. The food was all overcooked with zero seasoning. Parking shouldn't be a problem because there's so much parking available since it is in the same area as Kamakana Alii, Foodland and 24 Hour Fitness. I never been here and always wanted to try their food since my friends are always raving about this place and they did not lie. I like it here so much that I actually went here twice within the week. The first time I went here we didn't know where to eat and the line at the other place we wanted to go to was an hour wait so we decided for Sakura. We ended up getting the Salmon Poppers for an appetizer and ordered the Kapolei Boat to share between the three of us. The poppers were ok. I like that the poppers were fried to perfection and the inside was still hot and the cream cheese was gooey. The Kapolei boat was perfect for the three of us. It came with two sushi rolls and an assortment of sashimi. Our meal also came with miso soup which was so good. The second time we came, we came for my birthday and this time there was five of us so we definitely ordered more food. For appetizers, we got calamari rings, the dinosaur egg, pizza sandwich, the yellowtail jalapeño and the a sushi roll. The appetizers all came out before our main meal and they were all delicious. We also got 4 ordered of the toro, which is fatty tuna belly. We got another boat as well and this time it was the Hawaii boat, which came with 10 pieces of sashimi, one aloha roll, one Hawaii roll, a variety of tempuras, one piece soft shell crab, chicken katsu and steak. Definitely too much food for the five of us but we managed. Definitely would come here again with my family or a bunch of my friends. The atmosphere was buzzing the second time we came and looks like a lot of people were here enjoying their dinner. The do offer indoor and outdoor seating as well. If you dine indoors, you have the option of sitting at the teppanyaki table where you have a chef cook food in front of you. I live in the San Francisco Bay area and we know Benihana there. This ain't Benihana, this place is much more fun. Food was above average and I was happy to know that they also give you chow mein. The quality of meat seemed to be above average as well. Prices are fair at around $28-$30. Most of the chefs bring a little boombox out, and if you're up for it, they will, give you a little music to rock to. Additionally, if you're willing, they will give you as much sake as you can swallow. The bar was also nice and Darren the bartender knows his stuff. We had dinner here for my Mom's Birthday. Since we were a larger party, I made reservations a week in advance. It seems if you have a large party, you'll be seated automatically outside. Upon making reservations, they'll ask you if you are going to do teppanyaki or regular. We were greeted by our server almost right away. Took our drink and appetizer orders. It didn't take long for apps to come out. I ordered the hamachi jalapeño which was 6 pieces of hamachi sashimi on ponzu sauce and jalapeño on top with a tab of Sriracha sauce on it. My Brother in Law inquired in about the sushi deluxe which came with 15 pieces of sashimi and the server had stated that it would come with some uni but when we recieved it, no uni and we didn't question it. The fish was fresh. I've never had escolar (white tuna as the server described it) before but it was actually really good. My parents had the hibachi combo of salmon and steak and salmon and shrimp. The place is nicely designed and decorated with spacious seating arrangements for hibachi, bar area, and regular dining. I loved it! All the employees were very friendly and our waiter was excellent. He was on top of everything from start to finish. We opted for several different flavors of Margaritas like Strawberry and lilikoi which was very tasty. We ordered some appetizers like Fried oysters which was delicious and fried Tofu which came with a nice sweet sauce. The Menu offer a lot and was very pleased with the choices and portions. On the way to the restroom which could use hourly tidying up - we spotted a private dining room for 20 pax. Perfect for a small party. Prices ranged from $15.50 for the Sushi bar entree's And $16.50 + for Hibachi Dinners. Love their Menu and also, a lunch Menu is offered from 11 am - 2:30/3 pm. Dinner is 4:30-9:30/10 on weekends. This is my family's 4th time coming to this restaurant. For the most part it has been fairly decent. The last two times was a little different. The waiter questioned our order choices, asking we are sure that's what we want and it is a lot are we gonna eat it (order a boat and some other rolls on the side). The first time it was just my two daughters and we finished the boat and the rest of our order. This last time my adult son tagged along and we ordered a boat and other rolls on the side. Again we got push back on our order choices. He repeated the boat order back to me and still came back with the wrong order. Luckily the boat was not complete just the miso soup. He was a little rude in trying to blame me that the order was wrong after all four us, heard him repeat back the order. Celebrated my son in-laws birthday last night at Sakura Teppanyaki Sushi. This was my first time here and I was excited because I heard fascinating things about this restaurant. There were good and bad things to report so let's start with the good: The Chef was very entertaining and seemed to really enjoy his job. He was very experienced and I was amazed with what he could do with fried rice. The chief puts on a great show. It's like dinner and a show. Lots of fancy knife and spatula tricks and flames . You can feel the heat. The menu is really easy to read and the prices are pretty reasonable. They serve sushi as well as teppanyaki dishes which offer a variety of steaks and seafoods. The steak was very tasty and tender. Hibachi dinners come with a lot of side dishes. Steamed rice, fried rice, miso soup, noodles, a small salad and a few sautéed shrimp. Now the not so good in my opinion: The restaurant was at capacity for a Wednesday and we had to share our section with total strangers. We were literally one stool away from them. As I was enjoying my meal and the awesome chief show. A mommy roach strolled right along my plate. I know probably every restaurant has roaches.... I just didn't enjoy seeing it. Because the restaurant was so crowded it seem chaotic. At each table the chief had different loud music playing all at once. I had a hard time hearing and focusing on my dinner. We took my best friend out here for a sushi date and she enjoyed it for her first time . She actually love every single sushi she had ordered. And same goes for our other order. My friend order the Sashimi Deluxe, the Ninja Roll, and 3 in 1 Sakura Roll, and the Salmon Combo . It was all delicious. My daughter ordered a miso soup but it never came to us at all since we waited so long our server was nice to just give us all miso soup. My toddler loves miso soup! We were heading to Foodland farms in Ka Makana Alii when we noticed it wasn't open yet. Oh well.... just wanted to check it out.... But a sign was to the left saying that a place called Sakura was having a grand opening. OK, might as well check it out. The first thing we noticed was the menu; very reasonable, like $25 for a New York steak meal. Hmmmm well, ok! We go in and it looks impressive... There are regular tables, rooms and a number of teppanyaki tables. They asked if we were going to have teppanyaki - OK! I ordered New York steak and my wife ordered shrimp. There were a number of large tables that sit around 10 people. I didn't know what to expect, but we had a table all by ourselves. Despite being a Japanese teppanyaki place, almost everyone in there was Chinese. It reminded me of my recent trip to Japan where the entire staff of the hotel was Chinese. In that hotel, all the Chinese women looked similar in height and build and very extremely efficient. This was the case here as well. EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT service. No, really! She was so good. Smiling, helping us out which what to order. She put so many other places to shame. Attentive, yet, not overbearing. They started out with miso soup and salad and both were good! I also ordered a sushi roll and that was good - but different. It was a spider roll, but it had spicy tuna on top as well as eel. It was tasty and fine. We asked for more wasabi and they gave enough to feed 10 people! VERY GOOD! Then to our surprise the chef came. Also Chinese, but man this guy has serious skills. This place is like Benihana but with Chinese people and literally half the price. I watched in amazement as this guy worked a raw egg -spinning it, catching it, doing all sorts of manipulations before cracking it on the griddle. He was funny, fast and professional. One of the most skilled teppanyaki cooks I have seen. I did not expect this place to be this entertaining. My wife thought she would have like 4 shrimps or so - well, try something like 10! Not small measly shrimps but the big kind that I am allergic to! hahahahaha The cook knew I was allergic so he cooked it last. BTW, did I say the fried rice was worth it? No? $2.50 or so extra for fried rice - GET IT! The show alone was worth it. Most dishes had oil, sake, soy sauce, pepper etc... It was good. The steak was cooked perfectly. Sakura Tappenyaki Sushi is a new Tappenyaki Restaraunt that just opened in Ka Makana, new section called the Grove. Located right next to Pet Co. There was 5 of us total and we sat with a family. I ordered the Hibachi Combo with Steak and Shrimp, also a Tempura roll. Comes with Miso soup and salad. The miso soup and salad came out and the salad had a unique dressing. Tasted tangy n sweet which was pretty interesting. The miso soup was a standard miso that was pretty basic. The tempura roll came out and that was pretty standard as well. The tempura was cooked nicely and crispy. Our chef came out and started cooking on the grill. He did the normal show with the fire which was pretty cool. He had a great personality which made the experience fun. He tossed a piece of broccoli in my mouth and I was the only one who caught it at the table :). The shrimp and steak was pretty good and also pretty standard so nothing really special. It's a nice new place here in Kapolei which is good. There should be more variety down on this side. I will say however there's needs to be something unique offered here that will make it stand out. Also you are unable to split the bill so if your party is paying separate, make sure everyone has cash or venmo one person to pay. read more
