Ontama Egg Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl
    Tina M.

I saw this place pop up on Yelp so I wanted to give it a try. It looked new and unique and I liked the concept. I sent my hubby to pick up 3 bowls and 4 pieces of tempura. We ordered one large chicken Katsu bowl, 1 medium chicken Teri bowl, and one medium beef bowl. The chicken katsu bowl was not a large. They just put the food in a larger size bowl. There was one whole piece of chicken cut up. The 4 pieces of tempura was $12.95 and while it tasted good, it wasn't your typical veggie tempura with a whole vegetable pieces. It was like a mini potato pancake. Not worth the price. The beef bowl had grizzly pieces of meat throughout (my Mom couldn't eat it). The Ontama chicken Teri bowl was ok. The whole order was $64.29. Overpriced, small portion sizes, and not good quality. Very disappointing.

I came here at 7:36 and the worker at the front said they were closed. I confirmed with the worker that they close at 8 and confirmed with her that it was not yet 8. The manager then came and related that they were sold out. When related that the worker said it was closed he played it off and said yeah they were closed. Very poor customer service. Definitely not a place to come to around closing time

First timer coming to this location since they opened near our house in ewa beach. I used to be a frequent visitor to their Pearl City location when I used to live on that side. My experience was average, hence the 3 stars. I ordered large chicken katsu curry rice bowl and large ontama egg beef rice bowl. The prices are a little steep, I paid almost $40 for both items. I could've ordered the chicken katsu curry for cheaper at coco ichibanya curry house, but I decided to try it here on a whim. Both were delicious but afterwards I could feel that the food was a little bit salty from the excessive amounts of water I needed to drink afterwards. The lady that worked the register and helped prepare the food was warm and welcoming. She gave me a stamp card for next time.

My husband and I stopped by Matsuzaka-Tei for our favorite beef bowls while we were in the area. This location is for takeout only, so we brought our meals home to enjoy. The service was friendly and fast, and the food was as good as always! I had the mini ontama beef bowl and my husband tried the Ontama Teriyaki Brothers (half chicken, half beef with ontama eggs) and loved it. He suggested adding some kewpie mayo and furikake we had at home to my bowl, and it made my beef bowl even better! The only thing missing was the ginger on the side, staff forgot to add it. Womp womp. Nevertheless, I still highly recommend Matsuzaka-Tei for delicious beef bowls and quick takeout!

Looking for a place to get takeout. I know Matsuzaka-Tei is takeout only so it was perfect plus I was in the mood to try the takoyaki beef rice bowl. I called three times to place a phone order and no answer. I nearly skipped out on coming here but decided to drive here and place the order in store. We walked in and wasn't greeted at all. Waited a while until the worker noticed we were there. Then he approached the counter to take our order. Customer service is definitely lacking. I at first felt bad because it seemed like he was the only person working, preparing bowls and taking orders(we were the only people there beside a person waiting), until i saw there was actually another worker in the back that could've greeted and took our order. Apparently they offer a rewards card and I didn't even know until I had read the sign on the wall at the counter with the sauces. If i had known about the rewards program, I would've gotten a card to earn stamps. Also i see they put their delivery app orders on the counter for drivers to pick up but with the workers lack of awareness on who comes in and out. It seems irresponsible. Anyone could walk in and just take the online order without them knowing and walk right back out. Also maybe they should implement a bell on the door so they can hear who's coming in or a bell on the counter for customers to ring. After reading other reviews apparently not acknowledging their customers seem to be a thing here that clearly hasn't been corrected by managers to their staff. Other than the lack of customer service, the food was just as you expect, beef in a bowl, rice and sauce which I had put sukiyaki all over the meat. Takoyaki is tasty! It was really good and the mini bowl was filling and just enough to eat one time no leftovers.

Perfect little meal! Decent amount of items to choose from and not an overly complicated menu. Good quality, yummy food. Reasonably priced. Everyday 10% Military & Student Discount. **TAKE OUT ONLY** Don't forget to ask for a stamp card!

Matsuzaka-Tei has been my all time favorite beef bowl place on island since 2017 and I was so happy to hear that they opened a location in Ewa Beach since it's nearby where I live. At this location, they offer the same exact food options as their other locations. I ordered my usual mini ontama beef rice bowl with extra ontama (I was too hungry to take a pic before I finished it!) and the quality is just like the Pearl City location's beef bowl. There's a good beef to rice ratio and the ontama has this custard-like consistency that I really like. I just wish I remembered to put Japanese mayo on top because it makes the beef bowl even better! Honestly? I'd recommend any of their food items but I love their ontama beef rice bowl the best. Inside, it's really clean. There's a counter where you can order from and a smaller counter where you can add various sauces to your food. There are no seats or tables so it's more of a takeout place. I've been to this location twice and so far I've received really good customer service. Both times, they reminded me that they offer a 10% discount to military, students, and seniors. I was able to get 10% off with my student ID! Be sure to remember to ask for a stamp card so that you can get a $5 discount after filling it up.

I was pleasantly surprised one day doing a package drop off near by that this was opening very close to home. I ran into the manager while they were working on the restaurant. At the time, he said it would open June 25 or 26th. I told him I'd be there! I have been checking in person every day for their opening since and today is the day! It's a grab and go place unlike the Pearl City location with booths to sit and eat in. I ordered a mini ontama beef bowl and mini ontama teriyaki bowl. The only way to eat these bowls is to wash them down with two melon sodas! Like usual, the bowls are generous even for minis filled with meat and rice. I have no complaints. That was worth the week wait and check physically! In the end, I'm satisfied and happy that they were able to expand this business. They are worth supporting and have always been as good as they are today. This is not just another beef bowl but a beef bowl that takes me back to my vacation in Japan with their restaurant atmosphere and the taste of their food.

To start off, let me just say that before this location opened, I would always make the drive to Pearl City just to eat at Matsuzaka Tei, it's just that good. I am so happy that they opened a location in Ewa beach, no more far drive for me. I came in 10 min before closing and the workers still accepted my order and made my food quickly and were friendly. It's a very clean location, no tables or chairs to eat inside, but that's ok, you can always eat it at home or in the car if you're super hungry. The quality of the beef and the favor never disappoints! They do offer 10% military and student discount, but to be honest, with such a big portion and the cost being decent, it's already worth it without the discount.

Large katsu look like one mini katsu. Curry was cold. Service was buns

Service was trash, large katsu looked like one mini katsu. Curry was cold. I dont know how they still open for business

So good and reasonably priced. The whole place is super clean, surprised I don't see more people coming here.

Surprised to see this place open in Ewa Beach. Been to the Pearl City location before but wasn't impressed but decided to give them another shot. Ordered the Shrimp Tempura Rice Bowl takeout. Tasted just ok. Nothing impressive. 3 pieces Shrimp with Teri sauce was ok. A couple pieces of the shredded beef were a bit chewy though and a bit lacking on flavor. Nice to receive ginger and daikon on the side. Service was fine except that I was not given a Stamp Card. Overall, on par with my previous experience. Meh.

I must say, pretty tasty & the price is right! They're generous with their beef & that will make me come back for more.

They were very attentive and friendly even while the restaurant was busy. Staff made great recommendations and the food came out in a timely manner. The ambiance of the restaurant itself is so relaxing. We went before sunset and got to see the view during the day of the golf course and got to experience the night vibes as well. The menu has a lot to offer. Lots of categories with a variety of choices to cater to everyone's taste buds. Luckily went with a group of 5 so we got to try a bunch of different dishes. For appetizers- the tuna toast is a must! It's a perfect bite of poke with a nice crunch from the toast! I could eat 10 of these! The Brussel sprouts was also a favorite appetizer with its maple soy glaze and parm! If you don't like brussel sprouts- you might actually like this! lol The flavoring on the corn was great, but I wished it wasn't on the cob because it's messy to eat. The shrimp in the ebi katsu were huge, crunchy and not oily! The batter was a little thick but was proportionate to the shrimp size. The pork katsu was sooo delicious and tender. One of my favorite of the night. The wafu steak was also good - a little bit well done but the flavors were there. The miso black cod was also my favorite - soft and buttery with great flavor. The carrot puree under the cod was also surprisingly delicious and light. For dessert- the sweet potato crème brûlée is the popular dessert and it was pretty good. Not my favorite but good to try. I wonder if Okinawan sweet potato would be a better dessert the shave ice was a huge portion and the 5 of us almost didn't finish it ! The staff did give my parents a special treat for the celebration- it was like a yuzu custard with a crumble on top. THAT WAS BOMB, easily everyone's favorite dessert of the night! We inquired if that was going to be on the menu once day. And maybe it might Overall, a great restaurant with many delicious and flavor options! Great views and amazing staff. Would come again! Wish they had a location in town!

I've been wanting to try this place for a while but it is SOOO FAR! Finally made it out today and…read moregot to try a slew of their offerings. First, we got the Brussels Sprouts and Truffle Fries. Both were cooked perfectly, which is pretty much the trend of the night. The fries didn't really taste like truffle but they were thin and crispy, which is how we like them. The Brussels Sprouts were really good though, with the maple soy glaze. It was very well-balanced with the flavors and the sauce permeated throughout each bite. I got the Sushi omakase which came with a tuna carpaccio with Calamansi, and that was really good too, very refreshing. Then I got the 9 premium sushi they had for the day, a spicy tuna, and a spicy shrimp hand roll. They were all good, they taste how they're supposed to at their peak quality, and the nigiri were the right size and had a good fish to rice ratio. The hand rolls could've been better. But nothing really stood out. They were all okay. The nori was soft instead of crisp, and I didn't really get any spice. Needless to say, I was still hungry after that. Thankfully we also ordered the pork katsu, the scallops, and the Wafu steak. I didn't get to try the katsu but it was made crispy and my kids liked it enough. The scallop dish had a really yummy sauce, although, I didn't taste much truffle, kind of like the fries. The real standout for that dish was the sautéed Kale. It was delicious! The scallops were cooked really well and the dish was light overall. The Wafu steak came in a sizzling plate but had veggies right under it so it remained a perfect medium rare. Again, those veggies, they were so good, I couldn't get enough. The steak was good too, sweet and buttery, tender, and well balanced, how a proper Wafu steak should be. Overall, the food is good. The vegetables proved to be the most memorable and most delicious. Everything was cooked really well. However, it stopped there. Everything was technically "perfect" but there wasn't really anything I would be dreaming about or craving. I can't fault any of the dishes, not really, but I am not driven to rave about any of them either. I enjoyed the meal overall but it most definitely isn't worth another drive from town for us. I also had a couple of cocktails, which were okay. The Kakigori (we got strawberry and lilikoi) was sweet, refreshing, and a great palate cleanser. All tasty but pretty basic. The atmosphere was much more casual than I envisioned it to be which isn't a bad thing. Service-wise, there was one really eager busy bee server (kudos to him) and others that floated by occasionally to bring a dish or clear plates. Not sure what I was expecting, but maybe since it claimed to be a Michelin Star-type establishment, I guess I figured I shouldn't have to flag the server down every time I needed water. Overall, it was good. For someone from town? I'd likely not go back unless they open a closer location.

I've never been to an AYCE that was so stingy.
