My sushi roll was not intact, the spring rolls had very little filling, the rice and noodles had no taste, were completely greasy and unfortunately inedible. I went there for dinner last night with my boyfriend. I ordered a glass of Malbec. It tasted like Merlot, which has a bitter taste compaired to Malbec and dose not go as well with fish. The waiter offered to get me another wine, I ordered a Risling. Before taking the wine off the table the waiter said to my boyfriend do you want it before I dump it? My boyfriend said ok. The manager came with a shrimp dish that we did not order and said try this, I asked if it was gluten free he said no so my boyfriend ate it and I did not. When the bill came the waiter said he could not figure out how to take the first wine off the bill, although he added the second glass and said that's why we gave you a shrimp appetizer. I found the whole experience shady and felt tricked. Sushi was good, however there is another sushi place closer to my house that is just as good I just have to bring my own gluten free soy sauce. I like that this place is fairly good about gluten allergies, but needless to say I won't be back because the experience was awkward and I felt tricked into paying for an extra glass of wine. read more

Organic sushi is a new trend for people in the city, now it's getting to the suburbs. Wife and I went to checkout this new organic sushi place on the way to Boston. It's a cozy place in town center with trendy decor. The bar/sushi counter is long and wide, unlike most sushi places' narrow strip of counter space, plenty of space to enjoy sushi, drink and watching sports on the big screen at the same time. By talking the manager Mark, we know that one of the sushi chef came from Oishii Boston, so it's nice to get downtown quality without the downtown price. We ordered a hot app. Diamond Shrimp and two maki Snow Mountain and Super M. Each of the two Diamond Shrimp is a mixed seafood with special sauce ball dipped with crunchy breadcrumbs sets on top of shrimp. Very tasty, but because it's bit flaky, it's little hard to eat it with chopsticks. So I made a suggestion to Mark to serve them on 2 China spoons, easy to put in your mouth. Snow Mountain uses the king crab salad as the snow on top of each slice of "mountain" literally. We like the Super M the best as it's very colorful to look at and it has a good mix of raw fish and torched fish texture. (p.s. don't use soy sauce on this one, use the sauce in the plate which complements the maki very well). Didn't order any drink as I have to drive. Worst issue up front: Mildly inattentive (never got a "how are you doing" & has to flag the sushi chef down for a drink when it got low). This may have been because I was by myself and looking at my phone conducting some research for most of the meal. I've been here 4 times since they opened 3 months ago. It looks very nice inside, clean, and lit just right. All of the seafood is seen in plain sight at the bar in clear fridges. I usually get 3-4 rolls and have never smelt anything and the sashimi has always been firm. They have Tsing Tao and Sapporo for asian beers. A large hot sake 8oz or so is only $5. Overall the prices are in range with other places, but the quality is much better. I have yet to order online delivery but they did not increase their prices via Foodler or Grubhub as some places do, so that's a plus. Only wish ticket things for me would be that if you sit at the bar the Sushi chefs passed rolls one at a time over the counter to you instead of the waiter (if it wasn't busy). PS I'm not sure if they get tipped when you order from your table or takeout? Also I wish they had Japanese ramen (with a good fish stock and poached egg) on the fusion menu, I'd be there everyday. read more

Excellent place! Sushi is very clean and fresh. We like to sit at the bar and watch the games on their TVs. Servers are friendly. Supposedly they use all organic everything. They have something similar to pad thai that I want to try next time. Decent prices. We can get a midrange bottle of wine, 5-6 good sized rolls, salads, and still walk out of there without spending $100. Food: Good portion but very oily. The batter was way too thick on the soft shell crab. More than half of the portion are batter instead of crab. So oily that oil was dripping out. The tofu was ok but again batter was too thick. However, the chow fun was quite ok. Slightly oily but flavorful. Overall, I don't think I'd order from this place again. This is a great sushi place! I ordered takeout from Sakura yesterday for lunch. The calling process was efficient and so was the pick-up. They prepared the sushi rolls quickly (within fifteen to twenty minutes) so the service seemed pretty top-notch! I had a Crazy Maki roll (sweet potato tempura, cream cheese and avocado wrapped in soy paper with tobiko) and a Shrimp Tempura roll. The Crazy Maki was incredibly good- I loved the combination of sweet potato and cream cheese. Each piece was pretty sizable too, so it was filling. This was probably my favorite roll out of the two! The Shrimp Tempura roll was just as great and its flavor/crunch didn't get drowned out by the other ingredients. My boyfriend had the Alaskan maki (salmon, cucumber, avocado) and the Spider Roll (deep-fried soft shell crab, lettuce, avocado, cucumber, and tobiko). I should note that this was my first time trying soft-shell crab and it wasn't as bad as I expected, which was such a pleasant surprise!! :-) We also had the vegetable gyoza appetizer to share. It was a bit underwhelming only because there wasn't much filling and it lacked flavor. Its taste got a little bland after awhile due to the lack of ingredients in the filling itself. They have several coupons attached to their menus, which is a total plus! Though we didn't sit in to dine, the restaurant itself was wide and spacious with dim lighting to set a kind of mood. Always hesitant to try a new sushi place but caved. Note, I ordered delivery (not far) so I did know that it wasn't going to be amazing no matter what. Spicy Salmon & a Red Sox Maki. Small pieces with A LOT of rice with small filled centers. The fish for both was more of a minced consistency rather than chopped. Prefer a chunky piece of fish but I know that wasn't to be expected given the types of rolls I ordered. There was just no real substance or flavor due to the rice to other ingredient ratio. Just kinda mushy eh. Definitely not bad fish per se just not great. Not at all fishy so I was able pull them apart to at least not waste it all and ate the good parts. Spicy Salmon price $6.95 which is usual, but the Red Sox Maki is def not worth $12.95. I planned accordingly though & also ordered the House Special Noodles just in case I wasn't a fan of the rolls. It's pad Thai with some crushed red pepper, decent flavor, a lot of chicken and a HUGE portion overall especially for the price of only $8.95. There's a lot a large onion pieces but at least large enough you can pick out if you don't want so many & surprisingly they do not give the dish any sort of over powering onion flavor. The delivery was quick. They included reduced sodium soy packets which isn't always the case with delivery & also included a little plastic cup for the soy sauce which came in handy. GrubHub had a $5 off promo. Wouldn't rush back, but glad I tried it I guess. Certainly an improvement from the previous place, Sushi Island, that was in this spot. read more

What a great local restaurant. It has a Boston feel and a cool vibe. The owner and staff have such pride and energy about Sakura and the happiness of the customers. We ordered the chefs choice and we were brought a wonderful and delicious mix of sushi. One dish was better than the next. The food was fresh...the tuna was right off the boat. The flavors and combinations were really extraordinary. There were four of us in our party and to a person, we thought this was one of the best meals we have had. I guess this place is better for sushi because we ordered pad Thai and chicken katsu and not only was it bad, it didn't seem like a typical pad Thai and chicken katsu. The pad Thai was really just spicy orange noodles with chicken and broccoli and peanuts. The katsu is basically covered in eggs and a soggy outside topped with a large amount of ginger on top. TERRIBLE! FOOD POISONING FROM SUSHI! We ordered take out from Sakura on a Sunday evening. The order took approximately 1 hour to arrive. We ordered 4 sushi rolls. When we opened it up, everything looked normal, but upon tasting the first roll and smelling it (spicy tuna) I noticed an incredibly foul, fishy, strange taste. As someone who eats fresh and high quality sushi on a regular basis, I immediately knew something wasn't right and that this was NOT sushi grade tuna. I immediately stopped eating after that one piece, but my boyfriend went on to eat between 10-15 pieces. Warning - do not eat this sushi. They are not preparing fresh sushi grade cuisine or using quality fish. If anything, the health department should be called and informed of this restaurant. I've never had sushi that smelt and tasted so fishy and disgusting! read more

This place is a nice addition to Wakefield! We have dined and gotten take out quite a few times. The decor is new and fresh but tables are quite close together so expect to overhear convos! The service was on the slow side. Food wise we have gotten mostly sushi and a few noodle dishes. Sushi is a little inconsistent, sometimes its great other times just OK. Hot dishes were fine but not super memorable. We get little extras such as a seaweed salad from the kitchen sometimes which is nice. Overall I think the food gets 3.5 for us but I appreciate their effort. Hopefully the food and service will continue to improve! read more

No joke, I eat here 3+ times a week. This is hands down the best sushi I have ever had, every time I come in. They have the freshest fish - seen them cutting a whole tuna behind the sushi bar. The service is great, and the owner, Mark, is wonderful! Always chats with me when I come in alone and makes my husband and I feel right at home every time we come in. I have celiac's disease and they have never failed to accommodate me and my allergy. Gluten free soy sauce is available and almost every sushi roll can be made gluten free - even the AMAZING lettuce wraps can be made gf! This is the only place my mom will eat raw sushi because it is all wild caught and so fresh. Would highly recommend this place! read more

We recently moved to Reading and were so glad to find this place available on Grubhub. Their crab rangoons are fresh and delicious. They don't taste greasy or get overpowered by the cream cheese, which is a typical pitfall. To my surprise and delight the steak teriyaki was actually a sliced, grilled steak, rather than shaved steak. We've also gotten sushi here a couple of times and it is always of high quality. The lo mein noodles in particular remind me of Seven Star Bistro, which was our favorite place when we lived in West Roxbury. They have that salty and slightly chewy consistency that makes you want to shove the maximum number of noodles into your face. The food has always arrived in a timely fashion.
